As the founding producer and director of Pink & White Productions, (CrashPadSeries.com, PinkLabel.tv), SHINE LOUISE HOUSTON has always had unique vision. Graduating from San Francisco Arts Institute with a Bachelors in Fine Art Film, her works have become the new gold standard of adult cinema. During a five year position at the women-owned, sex toy purveyor Good Vibrations, Shine recognized an underserved demand for an alternative to mainstream pornography, and began to create well-crafted queer made porn. Shine's films have been recognized among the next big wave of women produced porn and have been internationally screened from Amsterdam to New Zealand. https://pinklabel.tv/ - PinkLabel.TV - indie adult streaming platform https://crashpadseries.com/ - CrashPadSeries.com - queer adult cinema https://sfpff.pinklabel.tv - San Francisco PornFilmFestival - coming August 24-27 Twitter & IG @PinkLabelTV and @ShineLouise
As the adult industry tries to adapt to the new normal under the ongoing pandemic, what was going to be the very first edition of the San Francisco Porn Film Festival will be going online this month of August. “If you stream it, they will cum...” is the slogan under which director Shine Louise Houston is launching a newly built platform for that purpose – streaming the programming of the festival with a live audience. In this POV podcast episode, we speak with Houston about the start of her career as a filmmaker, the obstacles adult entrepreneurs face and the new challenges that COVID has brought to the industry. Plus, she shared with us a reflection on gender as a rubric rhizome journey. Shine Louise Houston is a filmmaker and the founding director and producer of Pink and White Productions, an independent production company creating queer pornography in San Francisco. “The funny thing about Crash Pad is: you know that I know that you know that I know that there’s cameras in there." //In Part 2 of my interview with Shine, we focus in on Why Are People Into Voyeurism. //Shine tells a legendary tale of how seeing herself in the mirrors at the Lusty Lady inspired Crash Pad Series. We discuss how the voyeurism themes of CPS means she’s both removed her queer woman of color gaze and inserted that gaze into every single scene; how CPS has changed over 15 years of queer p*rn production; why you should pay for your porn; why asking first is necessary. We also explore: Why is voyeurism considered so creepy? Is the voyeur a top? When is looking like touching? There's also some nerdy camera talk and Shine's conspiracy theory about P*rn Hub. //Shine Louise Houston is the founding producer and director of Pink and White Productions (CrashPadSeries.com, PinkLabel.tv). During a five-year position at the women-owned sx toy purveyor Good Vibrations, Shine recognized an underserved demand for an alternative to mainstream p*rnography. In 2005, she quit her day job to form a p*rn company, kickstarting a renaissance in queer-made p*rn. A graduate from the San Francisco Arts Institute with a Bachelors in Fine Art Film, Shine has always had a unique vision for adult cinema. Her work has been recognized for its craft and cultural contribution to LGBTQ communities around the world. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
On May 11th, I recorded an episode remotely with Shine, about 15 years of Crash Pad Series, and a second part about voyeurism. On June 24th, I called her back to get her perspective on the Movement for Black Lives. This is part one, including our talks about BLM and CPS. Voyeurism coming soon. //“If you tell professionals what to do they won’t riff. If you tell amateurs what to do they ignore you. What I found was that the more I took myself out, the more organic the scene could be… The only thing I needed to control was the cameras…” //In which I call Crash Pad Series the Law and Order of Queer P*rn, Shine explains the origin story of the CPS themes and production values, and her take on the narratives of a sex scene. //Shine Louise Houston is the founding producer and director of Pink and White Productions (CrashPadSeries.com, PinkLabel.tv). Two important things before we get started: Register for Explore More Summit, my free online conference! It starts February 25th, 2019 and the theme this year is PLEASURE. You do NOT want to miss it. Check it out here at exploremoresummit.com. Support Shine Louise Houston's crowdfunding campaign for her new erotic film, Chemistry Eases the Pain. Details are here. On to your emails! First up, CuriousMom was raised with a lot of sexual shame and body shame. As a mom of two daughters, she is doing her best to raise them in a sex positive way (and it sounds like she's doing a GREAT job), but she doesn't know what she doesn't know. Where can she find resources and support on raising kids in a sex positive home? I cannot recommend my chat with Melissa Carnagey from Sex Positive Families highly enough. It's at this year's Explore More Summit on the VERY FIRST DAY, so get on that. Also, Sex Positive Families is a MUST for all folks with kids in their lives. Check out their recommending reading list, too. It's for kids and adults. Also check out Nadine Thornhill, Cory Silverberg's books "What Makes a Baby?" and "Sex is a Funny Word", and once your kids are teens, they MUST know about Scarleteen. Next up, E wrote in with a sweet note about the ways the show has changed. I am so grateful for all of you!!! Then, Unimportant wrote in because they feel neglected by my lack of an email response. Let's talk about the realities of what happens on my end and why every single email is so treasured even if you don't hear back from me. Let's do this imperfectly! Finally, Adam wrote in. His wife has a very limiting disability and it's led to a sexless marriage. He's been hiring escorts to help with his sexual needs because he loves his wive and their children, and just isn't sure what to do. And...THE AMAZING Shine Louise Houston joins us to talk about her new film, Chemistry Eases the Pain. Help support the film, check out the awesome perks, and spread the word. We need more awesome queer smut! Head to patreon.com/sgrpodcast and support the show at $3 or more for exclusive access to this and every week's bonus content. This week? Queer porn producer, writer & director, Shine Louise Houston, is our guest on episode 77 of American Sex Podcast. We talk about pay inequities in porn and her progressive pay structure for talent, what it means to be queer, her upcoming movie "Chemistry Eases the Pain" which is a “straight curious” adventure-- that leads to a discussion of identity policing in the queer community and the all too common problem of being ridiculed for doing something or someone that isn’t “queer enough.” We also discuss the challenges of being a queer woman of color in the industry, crowdfunding adult films, why it’s important to pay for your porn, and more.
