I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Friday morning, the 12th of September, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Gospel of Luke 20:38. Jesus says, “For He is not the God of the dead but of the living, for all live to Him.” You and I do not worship a god made of stone or wood, which is carved by human hands. Oh no! He is alive, He is well and He wants to talk with you and me today. I have been to Israel many, many times. I love that place. I always go to the Old City and I go to the tomb to see where the Lord Jesus Christ was buried, and I want to tell you, my dear friend, there is nothing in that tomb. It is empty! “Why?” you might say. Because Jesus rose from the dead. He is not there. Even when Mary Magdalene went down early in the morning, to find the body of Christ, He was not there. He was alive, He was risen, and He is well, and He wants to talk with you and me even today. You can go to David's tomb, also in the Old City, and his remains are there, that's right, his bones are still there, but Jesus is not dead, He is alive. I see Him so often as a farmer. I see Him in the early morning sunrise as the sun comes over. I see Him in the evening, in the sunset when the sun is starting to set. I can see Him in the face of a newly born baby. I can smell the Lord when there has been rain after a period of dryness. You can smell that perfume. He is alive, He is your God, He is my God and the good news is, He is coming back very soon to take you and me to be with Him in His house forever. So today, worship the Lord, praise His name, speak with Him because He wants to have fellowship with you, and open your spiritual eyes and you will see Him all over the place.Jesus bless you and have a great day,God bless,Bye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 11th of September, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in Psalm 81:10. The Lord says, “Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.” Then we go to Jeremiah 1:6: “Then I said “Ah, Lord God! Behold I cannot speak, for I am a youth.”God equips the men and women that He calls to do His work for Him. I don't often give a Thought For Today a title, but today I believe the Lord wants me to do that, and we would call this particular Thought For Today, “Speak Up”. Like never before, we need to, as believers, speak up. We need to tell people about Jesus Christ. That's exactly what happened with Moses. The Lord told Moses to go to Pharaoh and tell him to let His people go. He said, “But I can't speak. I am not a man of eloquent speech.” He had a stutter; he couldn't speak properly, but the Lord said that He would give him the ability to speak and what a statesman he became! Many people say the greatest statesman that has ever walked on the earth was Moses, greater than any president of any country, because he opened his mouth and God filled it.The key for you and me is found in John 15:7, which says:”If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” It's God's words in our mouths that will do the job. We are only a conduit pipe. That's all we are, and the Lord uses us and speaks through us.Robert Murray McShane, that wonderful Scottish preacher. A young man who died at the age of about 29 years old. He said, ”Rather than have been an instrument of the Lord, all I was, was an adoring spectator.” I can tell you and confirm that. Many a time I've stood on the platform and looked out at a massive crowd of tens of thousands of people and I felt myself standing next to myself, if that makes any sense, and God speaking through me. The first sermon I ever preached in my life was in the main street of Greytown. I had prepared that message for about six weeks. I stood up there for the first time in my life. The minister was standing next to me. He said, ”Don't worry, Angus, if you can't finish it off, I'll do it for you.” But he didn't have to. I opened my Bible, page one, said good morning to everybody, and I turned over page one and there was nothing there! I had left the notes somewhere. I had lost them and I had page fifteen (which was the benediction). That was the day that the Lord said, ”Are you going to do this by faith or not?” Well, I said, ”Yes Lord, by faith.” And the rest is history. Today, remember if God has called you, He will equip you.Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day, Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 10th of September, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Book of Exodus 4:3: And He said, “Cast it on the ground.” That was the rod that Moses was holding. The Lord said, “Cast it on the ground” and it became a serpent. That, my dear friend, is a miracle. Then we go right to the New Testament to the Gospel of John 2:11:”This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.” Jesus turned the water into wine at the marriage feast of Cana. The Bible says, “and His disciples believed in Him.”We have a saying at Shalom, it goes like this: “One genuine miracle equals a thousand sermons.” Isn't that true? The Lord said to Moses, “Cast the stick onto the ground” and it turned into a snake, then the Lord said, “Put your hand in your breast under your clothes, and then pull it out,” and it was leprous, white with leprosy. Then the Lord said, “Put your hand back into your clothes, to your breast, and pull it out a second time”, and it was clean and clear. Then the third thing He said, “Take some water, pour it on the ground and it turned into blood.”Folks, I want to say today that I believe in miracles. There are three miracles that the Lord gave Moses to prove to Pharaoh that God had sent him. What about you today? Do you believe in miracles? I want to pray today for an alcoholic who is listening to this message. I want to pray for a drug addict caught in substance abuse, and I want to pray for a miracle in your life today, and I want you to write to me and tell me what has happened. There is an old song that I heard the other day, an old Country and Western song, the type that I really love and this old man was singing a beautiful song from his heart and he said that God turned the wine back into water for him. Isn't that beautiful?Father, I want to pray today for that man, that woman, who is suffering from alcoholism, drug addiction, substance abuse. In Jesus' name, I am believing for a miracle in their lives. Lord, turn it around, set them free, give them a new life.Until next time, Jesus bless you and goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 9th of September, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Psalms 118:22:”The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.” Then we go to the Gospel of Matthew 21:42: “Have you never read in the Scriptures” (Jesus said) “the stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.” Jesus is the cornerstone in our lives. Without Him, we will not stand. When you build a house or any building, look at any builder, he will always put up the corners first and then fill in the flat walls joining to the corners. If he tries to build a flat wall first, it will fall over. It cannot stand. Jesus is our chief cornerstone!I looked up the Oxford dictionary to find out the literal meaning of the word, “cornerstone”, and this is what it says: a stone that forms the base of a corner of a building joining two walls. Another explanation is: an important quality or feature on which something is based. If your faith is not based on Jesus Christ, it will not stand, it will fall and that is a fact.Your marriage, young lady, young man. If Jesus Christ is not going to be the cornerstone of your marriage, it will fall over, it will not last. Your future, young person, if it's not based on the Chief Cornerstone, which is Jesus Christ it will fail. It will be rejected, it will fall, because as soon as the winds come, the tribulation, the hardship, the stress, the blood, the sweat, the tears - as soon as that comes, it will collapse if it is not based on a strong cornerstone which is Jesus Christ.Today, make Him the cornerstone of everything you do. He must be your very hope and then you've got something you can build on.God bless you and have a wonderful day, Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Monday morning, the 8th of September, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Exodus 3:14: ”And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.' “ Wow, what a title! I'm so excited this morning. “I AM who I AM.” I AM is the name of God, and then we go to John 14:10:”Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? “You see, Phillip said, ”Show us the Father.” “I am the Father. I am in Him and He is in me.” I can hear somebody say, ”Oh, are you sure about that?” Don't be like Phillip. Just believe, folks. Our faith is all about believing in the fact that Jesus is God. How can I prove that? Well, Matthew 1:23 is very specific, and His name is Immanuel, which is translated, God with us.Oh folks, today I want to tell you, we need to open our eyes, and we need to ask the Holy Spirit to show us Jesus in this world. You know, I'm a farmer. When I get up early in the morning, as the sun rises. I can see Him in the sunrise, I can see Him in the sunset, I can see Him in the face of a newly born baby. Oh yes I can. I can smell Him when the first rains after a long dry winter start falling onto the dry ground. I can feel Him in my Spirit!Do you remember that beautiful old hymn, “All over the world the Spirit is moving?” If you know it please sing it with me:All over the world the Spirit is moving,All over the world as the Prophet said it would be, Hallelujah! All over the world, there's a mighty revelation,Of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.Oh, deep down in my heart the Spirit is moving,Deep down in my heart as the Prophet said it would be, Hallelujah!Deep down in my heart, there's a mighty revelation,Of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.Jesus bless you. Open your spiritual eyes and you'll see Him today,God bless you and goodbye
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Sunday morning, the 7th of September, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Gospel of Luke 20:2:“Tell us, by what authority are You doing these things? Or who is he who gave You this authority?” I looked up the Oxford Dictionary to find out the literal meaning of the word “authority”, and one of the meanings is “recognised knowledge or expertise.” Folks, Jesus had it all. He had the ability. Whenever He walked into a place, people stood back. Remember when the soldiers tried to arrest Him in the Garden of Gethsemane, the night He was betrayed? When He spoke, they fell to the ground. Peter recognised who Jesus was. He actually said to Him, ”Get away from me, Lord, for I am an unclean man,” when he saw the miracle that Jesus performed with the fish at the Sea of Galilee. They asked William Carey, the man who took the Gospel of Jesus Christ to India. The theologians questioned him and said, "What qualifications do you have?” One man, being very sarcastic, said, ”I believe, you are just a shoemaker.” “ Oh no, Sir.” He said. ”I'm not a shoemaker. I'm a cobbler. I can't make shoes, I can only repair them.” But I want to tell you that man translated the Bible into Sanskrit, into Hindustani, into languages that are so very difficult for anyone to understand. He became the Chief Interpreter in the High Court of Delhi.I want to say to you today, if Jesus Christ is your Lord and Saviour, if He has forgiven you of your sins, you have the authority, you have the power and the knowledge and the expertise to tell others about Him. Remember that song, I've sung it before, but I need to sing it again today with you. A beautiful song and I want you to sing it with me.He paid a debt, He did not owe,I owed the debt, I could not pay,I needed someone to wash my sins away. And now I sing a brand new song,Amazing Grace,Christ Jesus paid a debt that I could never pay.He paid a debt for me and He paid a debt for you. If you love Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, that will give you the authority to go into all the world and tell people that the Lord Jesus Christ has given you the authority, and you are born again and you belong to Him!Go out today and sing that song from the top of your voice,Jesus bless you and goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 6th of September, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Exodus 3:11: ”But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” Then we go straight to the Book of Isaiah 6:8: “Whom shall I send and who will go for Us?” Maybe the Lord is speaking to you this morning, and to me, and He's saying that He wants us to keep on keeping on. He wants us to tell people about the soon-coming King. Jesus Christ is not coming soon, He's on His way I tell you! You've heard me saying that many times, and it's true. Folks, God used Moses. Moses was a shepherd, that's right. Yes, he had been in Pharaoh's court, but because he was a murderer, he ran for his life and ended up looking after his father-in-law's sheep, and yet the Lord called him to set the people of Israel free. The Lord uses whoever puts their hand up. Jesus Christ used fishermen, tax collectors, and tentmakers to do His bidding. “Why?” you ask. It's a good question. I've asked myself that question many times before. “Lord, why do You use nobodies?” I believe it is because He will not share His glory with any man. So when a man like Moses puts his hand up, or a man like Peter or Paul the apostle, or Matthew the tax collector, and they start to work for God and God uses them powerfully, people will say, ”It wasn't that man, that must have been God in that man.”I think of D.L. Moody, one of the greatest evangelists of all time. Do you know that he couldn't even speak properly? Do you know, he had no education? He was a shoe salesman. I think of C H Spurgeon, the prince of preachers, is what they call him - never went to Bible College in his life, spoke with a very broad English accent, an incredible man. At the age of twenty-one years old, they built the London Tabernacle for him to seat ten thousand people. Then what about Billy Graham? His only ambition, as a teenager, was to be a professional baseball player, but that man has touched millions around the world. He was a dairy farmer's son.Today, don't despise the call that God has put on your life. You might be living in a nursing home, you might be in a school hostel in some boarding school, you might be an airline pilot. Jesus wants to use you today to set His people free. Just keep telling them what Jesus means to you. Remember, it's Christ in you, the hope of glory!Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Friday morning, the 5th of September, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in 1 Timothy 2:4:”…who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. “ All men to be saved! Jesus does not want one person to go to hell, to perish in that everlasting fire. He wants all men to be saved. The most famous scripture in the whole Bible is found in the Gospel of John 3:16: ”For God so loved the world (that's you and me) that He gave His only begotten Son (that's Jesus) that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.“ Jesus loves sinners. He died for sinners. He said, ”I didn't come for the righteous, I came for the sinner.” (Luke 5:32)I don't know how many mothers I have met and read about, who prayed for their wayward sons and daughters, and eventually they came to the saving grace of Christ. Our Lord is not out there to catch us out. He is not out there to condemn us. He came to give us life abundantly. (John 10:10). Where are you standing today? Are you still running, my dear friend? Are you running from God? Are you trying to run from your past? Stop it today and accept Jesus as your Lord and saviour, and He will change your life. He did it for me.I want to do something that I don't always do on this little programme. I want to give you the opportunity of saying sorry to Jesus, accepting Him as your risen Lord and Saviour, and starting all over again. If you'd like to do that, please pray this prayer after me:Dear Lord Jesus, Thank You for dying for me, a sinner, on the Cross of Calvary. Today I believe that you are the Son of God, that You have come to save me, to forgive me of all my sins and to give me a brand new life. In Jesus' name, amen. Now, I want to ask you to do something, just like I did when I prayed that same prayer that you have just prayed, tell the first three people that you meet today, what you have done. You don't have to labour it but don't hold back because this is the beginning of a new life for you. Jesus bless you you and goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 4th of September, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Book of Exodus 2:12: “So he looked this way and that way, and when he saw no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.” Yes, Moses was a killer, and then he fled for his life! Then we go to Acts 7:58-59: “And the witnesses laid down their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul. And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Saul was a murderer. He was instrumental in killing the first martyr in the New Testament. I am talking about Stephen. This may be a special message for someone who feels there is no hope. “There is no hope for me, Angus. I have done the unforgivable. I have committed a crime, there is no way back.” Oh my dear friend, there is if you will but repent. The Bible says in 1 John 1:9: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Jesus has got a habit of taking nobodies and making them into somebodies. Moses paid a severe price for what he did. He spent 40 years in the desert, unknown. He looked after his father-in-law's sheep. Nicky Cruz was a warlord in the slums of New York in the USA. He was a gang leader, the warlord in the Mau Mau. His own mother called him, “the son of satan.” He is now 86 years old today and he is still preaching the Gospel. He heard the word of God through a preacher by the name of David Wilkerson, gave his life to the Lord, repented of his sin and did a 180-degree turnaround. He is now a very famous evangelist and is known all over the world.Do not lose heart. Pray the Sinner's Prayer, be like Moses, be like Saul who became Paul, be like Nicky Cruz. Say, “Lord, give me another chance.” He will do it for you today if you genuinely repent.Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 3rd of September, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go straight to the Gospel of Luke 19:40: ”But He answered…” Jesus answered,”… and said to them, “I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.” We need to be free to praise and worship the Lord as we see fit. Let us not judge people because they happen to be a bit loud in church. Yes, I am talking about myself as well. I can't help it. When I go into a church, I want to praise the Lord at the top of my voice. I want to raise my hands because I love Him so much because He's done so much for me. Don't restrict other people praising God just because you don't.Now, I don't mind if people want to be quiet and they want to worship the Lord in the quietness of their heart, that's fine, but if others want to dance around the church, how can you stop them? I want to say to you, God is looking at the heart. Don't show off in front of other people, not at all, but don't hold back. Don't restrict people from telling Jesus they love Him, by showing Him by the way they worship Him. He says if you don't, the very stones will shout out and cry out!One of the places where I really love to worship the Lord? Early in the morning, I go out and I ride my mountain bike. Sometimes it's so early I've got to use a light because it's still dark, and while I'm riding my bicycle, I smell the fresh morning air. I hear the birds singing. I can see the sun just starting to come up. It's a new day, it's a new opportunity and I just let rip. I think some people think I've lost it when they come past! I just praise Him and worship Him because I love Him so much because of what He's done for me and my loved ones. Please do the same. There is power in praise. When you start to praise the Lord, all those burdens begin to fall off you because you start to remember exactly who He is and what He's done for you and me.So have a wonderful day, praising and worshipping Jesus, Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 2nd of September, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the second book in the Bible, Exodus 2:6: “And when she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby wept. So she had compassion on him,…” This was a heathen woman who had compassion on a little baby that was crying, and of course, we know what happened after that. She took that little baby to be her own, and his name was Moses. She gave him that name, and he grew up to be one of God's chosen men. He took the Israelites out of bondage, out of Egypt and through the desert to the land of milk and honey. Then we go to the Book of Matthew 18:6: “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.” A millstone weighs approximately 5 tons. Jesus is making a very clear point this morning to you and to me. Jesus loves little children. Remember when He was tired and the mothers were bringing their children, their babies to Jesus so He could bless them? And the disciples were trying to help the Lord and keep the children back, and what did He say?“Let the little children come unto Me for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven.” Matthew 19:14The Lord is making it very plain today, sir and madam, look after that child. That child actually does not belong to you. That child belongs to God. He is just allowing you to look after that baby for Him. We had better do it. Don't neglect your children. Spend time with them, love them and discipline your children. There is nothing more embarrassing than to see a child - I saw it once in the game reserve - a child throwing its plate of ice cream all over the table, and the waitress had to try and clean it up, and the mother and father did nothing about it. What an embarrassment! I have never forgotten that as long as I live. Teach them good manners, love them, spend time with them, and most of all, be a good example to them. Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Monday morning, the 1st of September, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Gospel of Luke 19:35: “Then they brought him to Jesus. And they threw their own clothes on the colt, and they set Jesus on him.“ I want to speak to you today about miracles, small miracles. There is no such thing, of course, as a small miracle. It's either a miracle or it's not a miracle. Now, I have been riding horses for fifty years. I am still riding a horse. I think you know him, maybe better than you know me. His name is Snowy. He is now 19 years old and he is still a beautiful horse and he is doing me so proud. But I don't want to talk to you about that. I want to talk to you about a young donkey, a male donkey, a colt, that has never ever been ridden before. Jesus got on that donkey and rode him into Jerusalem, into a crowd that was shouting and screaming and praising and throwing their clothes on the road, and waving palm branches all over that donkey. He never once tried to run away, tried to bite someone, tried to buck the Master off his back - not once! Have you ever thought about that? What I want to say to you today is that we must get used to small miracles. That old lady trying to find a parking place because she has got sore legs: “Lord, just open a parking place for me in front of the supermarket, please.” And what happens? Oh yes, because she believes. The problem is, a lot of us don't.When we started farming, Jill and I didn't have very much money at all. Often that vehicle of ours would be on empty. Some people say that “empty-e” stands for enough! It's not funny. It's amazing how the Lord makes that vehicle go just that much further. When we did that huge prayer meeting in Bloemfontein when the boys were mowing down a thousand hectares of grass, people would bring in diesel to fuel the tractors, and many times the young men would come to me and say, “Oom Angus, we don't know how this works. That bowser was supposed to be empty two days ago, and it is still producing diesel and filling the tractors, every single day.”Trust the Lord for your miracle today and He will not disappoint you.Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Sunday morning, the 31st of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go straight to the Book of Ephesians 2:8-9:“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Undeserved loving kindness, unmerited favour - that's grace. It is amazing! You can't earn it, you can't work for it, you can't even study for it. You can just humbly and gratefully receive it.Zacchaeus received it when he came down from the sycamore tree and invited Jesus home, with all the other tax collectors, the professional thieves, and what happened? He received grace. That day, he was so overwhelmed by the goodness of God. He said, “I am going to repay 400%, (4 times, not 10%, 400 times) of anything I have ever taken from anyone else, because he received the love of Christ.John Newton, a slave ship captain, received it. He wrote that hymn: “Amazing Grace, how sweet the soundIn a believer's ear,I once was lost but now I am found,I once was blind but now I see”I received it. That is why I love Jesus Christ so much. I want to be really honest with you today. I was a self-made man, I started farming from nothing and I learnt one thing very early from my parents, you don't ask for things and you pay for whatever you buy, and if you can't pay for it, you don't take it. Now to the measure, that's okay but it does teach you to be a little bit proud and to learn to accept the gift of God freely was quite difficult for me. I wanted to pay for it, but I couldn't. Jesus said, “Freely you have received Angus. Freely give.” All the Lord wants you and me to say today is, “Thank You for saving my life. Thank You for giving me eternal life.” We just need to say thank you for the unearned favour of God. I don't know if you have ever done this in your life before but I want to pray the sinner's prayer with you today. Maybe you have and maybe you are not there now. Maybe the Lord is calling you home. Please pray this prayer after me, this prayer of gratitude for the grace of God.Dear Lord Jesus,Today I repent of all my sins and I ask You to be Lord of my life. Please forgive me for not appreciating what you did for me on the Cross of Calvary when you died for mysins. Today I accept You as my Lord, my Saviour and my best Friend. In Jesus' name,Amen.Have a wonderful day and remember those sins have been paid for. Do not go back there again. God bless you and goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 30th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Gospel of Luke 19:13:“So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Do business till I come.”Are you doing business for the Lord today or are you just playing it safe? You see, that was a parable that Jesus told the people. The man that he gave one mina to, went and he multiplied his minas, and the Lord was very pleased with him when he came back (the nobleman), the other one did the same but the last one, he said, “No,no…” He was scared he was going to lose that mina so he hid it. What did the Lord do? He took the mina from the man who had one, and he gave it to the man who multiplied his mina. Even the people said, “But Lord, that's not fair,” and the Lord says those who are working hard, those who are using what God has given to them will even be more blessed, and those who are lazy, fearful and will not use what God has given them, even that which they have will be taken away from them and given to others.I heard a story once about a farmer. A fertiliser representative, or maybe a herbicide representative; I don't know. Maybe he was an Extension Officer. He drove onto the farm to come and see the farmer and he saw the farmer sitting on the porch drinking coffee. And he said to him, “How is the farm going?” And he said, “No, not very well.” So the Extension Officer said, “Why not?” He said, “I haven't planted any potatoes this year”, and the Extension Officer said, “Why did you not plant any potatoes?” “Because they told me there was going to be a lot of blight and the potatoes wouldn't grow too well.”He said, “I see your maise fields are barren. There is no maise growing there.” “No, they told me that this year there is going to be a drought so I decided not to plant any maise.”“I see you have got no green fodder for your cattle.” “No, I have sold off all my cattle because they said to me, this year it is going to be very, very dry.” And as a result, the farmer was sitting on his porch, drinking his coffee and quietly going bankrupt. I want to say to a young man, a young woman today, use what you have got for the Lord and He will multiply it. Jesus said in Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Do not depend on what the politician says, or what the weather predictions say, or man's opinion. Seek the Lord and then go for it with all of your heart and the Lord will multiply it for you. I have experienced that in my own life many, many times. Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Friday morning, the 29th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Gospel of Luke 19:2-3: ”Now behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature."He was a very short man but I want to say something to you today. Maybe you're short. Short physically, maybe you are short of education, maybe you just haven't had a very good break in life, short of opportunities. Well, I want to talk to you about Zacchaeus. You see, God always compensates. That's what I've found in my life. He never lets you come short if you put your trust in Him alone. He did it for me.Zacchaeus was a very determined, small man. There are some men that are big who are very slack. They don't try, they don't really make an effort. They feel they don't have to, but he was short and maybe he was always left behind. So he became determined in his character. He was a feisty man. I love watching rugby, and normally, the most feisty man on the field is the scrum-half. He normally is the smallest man on the field, but I want to say to you, that doesn't mean to say he is the least. He is the link man and sometimes the most important man on the field. Well, this little man Zacchaeus was not going to be lost in the crowd, so he made a plan. He climbed up a sycamore tree and what happened? Jesus saw him. There weren't any others up the tree. He saw him. He said, ”I'm coming to your house today.” How would you like the Son of God to come to your house today and have a meal with you? He was a chief tax collector, a thief and Jesus came to his house. Zacchaeus invited all his friends to come and join with him.You know, if you're a football fan, there's a man by the name of Lionel Messi, he plays for Argentina. He is 1.7m tall and weighs a mere 67 kgs. At the age of 10 years old, he had a growth hormone deficiency. He has now become a giant in soccer in the world. Anybody who knows anything about soccer knows who Lionel Messi is.I want to say to you today, don't despise your situation. Look up to Jesus and He will see you. Not only will He see you, He will equip you and He will use you mightily. Put your trust in Him, look to Him, give Him all your cares and let Him do the work. Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day today,Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 28th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Exodus 1:1:”Now these are the names of the children of Israel who came to Egypt; each man and his household…” Then we go straight to the Gospel of Mark 3:33-35: ”But He answered them, saying, “Who is My mother, or My brothers?” And He looked around in a circle at those who sat about Him, and said, “Here are My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of God is My brother and My sister and mother.” I want to talk to you this morning about family. The first people that left Canaan and went down to Egypt were a family. Now Jesus was teaching and a messenger came and said, ”Your family is waiting outside to see you.” And He said, ”Who are My family?”I want to say to you that spiritual ties are more important than biological ties. I am a family man myself, I'm very proud of my family, I'm proud of my roots, but I want to tell you, I met my real family when I gave my life to Jesus Christ. He is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Do you know, we are in our sixth year of doing the thought for today? Some of you have been my family for six years and I've never seen you.I want to tell you a little story. I went down to the spares department in a garage a couple of days ago to get a spare part. I walked out of the garage, said goodbye to everybody, got into my pickup and a young man came up to me. He walked up and his eyes were shining and his face was smiling. What a beautiful smile he had! He came up to me and he said, ”Baba Angus, I just wanted to shake your hand.” Now “baba” in Zulu means “father” and I said, ”And what is your name?” And he said, ”My name is Lethle.” “And where do I know you from, young man?” “No, no,“ He said, ”this is the first time I'm meeting you.” He said, ”But I get your message every single morning and as far as I'm concerned, you are like a father to me.” I looked at this young man and I saw the love of Christ in his heart and we were able to pray together. I felt like I knew that young man better than some distant family members that I have never seen or heard from for years.Today, maybe you are an orphan. Today, maybe you don't have any biological family, but I want to tell you, if you know Jesus Christ, open your eyes and your ears, you have family all over the world. I'm your family, and every single day I meet with you, remember, I'm the friend that you need.Have a beautiful day and remember, you are a member of a huge family!Jesus bless you and goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 27th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Gospel of Luke 18:38: And he cried out, saying, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Then we go down to verse 41. Jesus said to him: “What do you want Me to do for you?”He said, “Lord, that I may receive my sight.” "Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.” “And immediately he received his sight,…”Today I received a letter which has touched me very deeply. Obviously, without using the actual people's names, for privacy, I need to read this letter to you because it has blessed me immensely. This is how the letter goes, it says:“Dear Uncle Angus,It has taken me some time, eight years in fact, to write you this letter. My wife and I grew up in God-fearing homes. We loved the Lord and we believed that the ideal family is a husband and wife and children, but once we got married and we had to work hard on our careers, we postponed having a family.” But when they got into their thirties, they say that they were trying to have a child and she could not fall pregnant. So they decided to go to a huge prayer meeting held in Bloemfontein. That prayer meeting had approximately 1.4 million people attending. In the middle of the meeting, I said, “I feel there are people here who cannot have babies and can you please stand up.” At first, he said he was hesitant, not because he doubted but because of the hundreds of thousands of eyes upon you - it is not easy to stand up, but praise God for the women! His wife stood up, pulled him up and the two of them stood there and prayed with me that they were going to have a baby. This is after going to many doctors and they said, “You are not going to have a baby because you can't.” But we can do all things through Christ Jesus! Apparently, on the morning of 6th of August 2017, his wife called him in a shrill voice. He thought a snake was in her bed. They live in Johannesburg and he knew it wasn't a snake and she stood there and she said, “I am pregnant!” Praise be to God! He has told me that they now have 4 children and he has given me the dates and the names, and I just had to share that with you today, because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forevermore. (Hebrews 13:8) Trust the Lord for your miracle!God bless you and goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 26th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go straight to the Gospel of Luke 18:1: “Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart,…” Then we go to Matthew 7:7 and this is what it says: “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” Do not lose heart, never give up. If there is one thing that farming has taught me, it is to not give up, but to be persistent. Sometimes the best crops that I have ever planted started off almost as a disaster. No rain, and then the rain came and the crops grew and I ended up with a bumper crop but that was through persistence in prayer. Don't lose heart. The mother of President Donald Trump was Mary Anne MacLeod. Yes, she was a Scottish lass. She came from the Isle of Lewis on the Hebrides. They tell me that her relatives, two older ladies, were prayer warriors. They prayed for revival to come to the Hebrides. One was blind, the other one was bent in two with arthritis, and they prayed and prayed and prayed and what happened? Yes, revival came to the Hebrides. But I wander too if their prayers didn't influence Mary Anne MacLeod when she immigrated and went to America and eventually she became the mother of the current President of the United States, President Donald Trump! The prayers of two old ladies! That was long before Donald Trump was ever born. I want to say to you that we need to pray persistently for that prodigal son, prodigal daughter, for that business, for that future, and not to give up because Jesus tells us the story that a reason that the judge (if you read on from the Scripture I gave you) listened to that widow, wasn't even because she was a Christian. It was because she persevered and did not give up.Today, keep praying and let Jesus do the rest.God bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Monday morning, the 25th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Gospel of Matthew 23:12: “And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Then we go to Luke 18:14:”…everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” The same scripture in two different gospels. I think the Lord is telling us something this morning. If you want to be first, you must be prepared to be last. If you want to be the greatest, you must be prepared to be the least. You see, it is the Lord that does the promotion, not you, not me. I want to tell you a little story. Many years ago, I had the privilege of doing a tour of Great Britain. I was preaching all over the place. I was a young man. I was full of energy. I would do Sunday services, mid-week services, and I was invited to this tea party on a weekday morning. I wasn't too keen to go. I don't like cucumber sandwiches and tea and making small talk, but you see, I was about to be humbled. That's right! I arrived at this place. It was very special. There were a lot of senior people there. They were well dressed, and the man that had invited me said, “I want to introduce you to someone”, and he introduced me to this man. We will call this man John, and that is how he was introduced.“This is John and John, this is Angus.” And John was a man who held himself very upright, very fit, very disciplined. I would put him at a man probably in his seventies. He was wearing gumboots so I presumed he was a farmer. I said to him, “Sir, what is your profession?”And he said to me in the King's English, “I am a soldier.” “A soldier?” “Yes Angus, and I have come specially today to listen to you, but I might have to pop out before the end of the meeting, so please forgive me, but I am very excited.”Anyway, the service started and the meeting started. I got up and I preached and just towards the end of the meeting, he was standing at the back of the hall, a big tall man with his gumboots on, and he waved to me, so he didn't cause any trouble and he slipped out of the back door. After the meeting was over, a gentleman came up to me. He said, “Angus, you see that man that left just before the end of the meeting?” I said, “Yes”., He said, “Do you know who he was?” I said, “No, he told me he was a soldier.” He said, “That man is the Commander General of the NATO armed forces of Europe and he reports directly to the Queen of England.”Oh my friend, today be very careful who you speak to. Don't be too quick to sprout off what you can do and what you have done. Just keep humble.God bless you and goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Sunday morning, the 24th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Psalms 32:8. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.” Then we go to Psalm 34:11: “Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.” Fear of the Lord - meaning reverence, respect. I want to say to you today, we need to listen to old people. I am talking to young men and young women. They will show you where the potholes are in the road. They will show you about the cul-de-sacs, the one-way streets that you go down, having to turn around and go back again, wasting valuable time. They will show you the right direction. Remember, shortcuts are not always the quickest way home. A lot of young people don't understand that. I was one of them and it cost me dearly, many times. When I go into the rural areas of Africa, one thing that has always amazed me and endeared these precious people to my heart is that they have a great respect for age. You will go into a village where they don't have much and there will be an old man there with white hair and when he wants to talk to the people, they will gather around him in one of the huts and they will put a chair in the middle of the room, and they will all sit around him and listen to his advice. Folks, we need to understand something. We think we are clever - we are not that clever. If we had to do away with cell phones, iPads, one that I am using at the moment, and computers, some young people are struggling with basic arithmetic! Take away that calculator and they cannot add a simple sum together. They need to calculate, but an old person doesn't need that. My wife, Jill's dad, was an incredible mathematician. He could take his pen and run from the top to the bottom, six figures, and add them all up without making a mistake! We battle to get one column together and get it right. We need to respect older people. You know, Thomas? We always call him “doubting Thomas” I want to stand up for Thomas today. Thomas always enquired of the Lord. I don't think he was a doubter, I think he just wanted to know. He said in John 14:5-6: “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way,…”Today, don't despise and don't have little patience for senior people. They have so much information and so much wisdom to give you. Just give them a chance to talk to you, and most of all, the greatest of all, Jesus Christ Himself, He is waiting to hear from you today. Jesus bless you and goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 23rd of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Gospel of Luke 17:20-21. Jesus said: “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say, ‘See here!' or ‘See there!' For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.” The Kingdom of God is not found in a place. I have been to Israel, and I want to tell you it is an amazing place. There is no doubt about it. My favourite place is Peter's Landing, which is on the shores of Lake Galilee, you know, where Jesus asked the disciples, “Have you caught any fish?” But Gethsemane is another amazing place. But that is not where the Kingdom of God is, according to Jesus. It is not found by listening to an incredible orchestra playing The Messiah, it is not found in a powerful church service. It is found within you, it is found within me. That's where the Kingdom of God is. That is what the Master said. Peter, the apostle, experienced the Kingdom of God in prison when those gates were flung open and those shackles were miraculously taken off his feet and his arms. Daniel experienced the Kingdom of God in a lion's den, when those lions could not eat him. By the way, when they took Daniel out and they put the accusers in, they were eaten immediately. The Kingdom of God was found in a grave when Lazarus was raised from the dead.I want to tell you that the Kingdom of God is within you. Take time out. That is why Jesus spent a lot of time on His own with His Heavenly Father. The Kingdom of God needs to be cultivated in your quiet time room, early in the morning. The Kingdom of God is found when you allow the Holy Spirit to speak into your life, and that takes time, sitting in the presence of God. Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Friday morning, the 22nd of August 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Genesis 47:3: “Then Pharaoh said to his brothers (Joseph's brothers), “What is your occupation?” And they said to Pharaoh, “Your servants are shepherds, both we and also our fathers.” Then verse 6: "And if you know any competent men among them, then make them chief herdsmen over my livestock.”We need not to despise our occupation or our profession. If you are a doctor, be the best doctor you can be for Jesus. I have heard of doctors who have gone into rural areas where people are struggling with their eyes, and all it is, is cataracts. They take those cataracts out of the eyes, (apparently, it is not a major operation) and all of a sudden, people who were basically blind, can see. That is a sermon that has got more power and impact than any preaching I have ever heard. The people just want to know, “Who is your God, because we want to serve Him.” Use your occupation or your profession for the advantage of telling people about Jesus.I want to tell you about one of my best friends. He lives in Zambia. His name is Brian Oldridge. Now, Brian has got more invitations to go around the world preaching than any evangelist I know of, and what does he do? He shows people how to grow food, especially when they don't have tractors and they don't have fancy implements - just by using a mere hoe, and just the very basic giftings that God has given to each one of us and He is so popular and of course, that is his in-road to preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. What was Jesus? What was His occupation? Yes, He was a carpenter. He was not a great internationally famous evangelist, He was a carpenter. Oh, but what a carpenter! What was Paul? He was a tent-maker by occupation. What was Peter? Peter was a fisherman by trade. I heard someone say, “Preach the Gospel with all your heart and if you really have to, then use words.” Preach the Gospel using your profession, your talent, your gifting from God, and that will open a door for you to tell people about your beloved Saviour. Jesus bless you and goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 21st of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Gospel of Mark 6:31-32: ”And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat. So they departed to a deserted place in the boat by themselves.” We are getting too busy!I'm going to tell you something, it's laughable, but it's actually very true. Very rarely have I ever heard the Lord speak to me personally, in my heart, so clearly. One day, He said to me, ”Angus, your busyness is making Me tired.” Can you imagine God saying that to you? I'm telling you, in my heart, ”Your busyness is making Me tired.”I want to say to you on a serious note today, my dear friend, we've got to stop doing and we've got to start being. Stop doing and start being! You can't earn your way to heaven. You know that. You need to start being. Mom, Dad, I want to say something to you very seriously today. Your child does not want what you can buy them, does not want what you can do for them, they actually want time with you. Don't go down that line and say, ”No, well I have to do this because I want to send them to the best school. I want to buy them the best vehicle. I want to give them the best …no! They want time with you. At the end of the day, that is what they want.At the end of the day, Jesus wants time with you and me. You see, Jesus does not need you, He doesn't need me. I mean, He can say one word and raise the dead. He can say one word and part an ocean. What He wants is time with us. He created us for fellowship, that is what He wants. I want to say to you today, rekindle that first love before the fire goes out!On the farm here in our little house, we make fires. We make fires to warm us. We have a coal stove and we make fires so that we can cook our food on the stove. We know how to make fires. You've got to coax a fire. When you start a fire, you don't just throw a whole lot of wood on top, otherwise the fire goes out. You coax it, you gentle it, and when that flame is burning brightly, then you add fuel to the fire. You need to spend time with Jesus.God bless you and have a wonderful day, Goodbye
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 20th of August, 2025 and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Gospel of Luke 17:17-18:”So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” I want to say to you this morning, don't forget to say, ”Thank You.” That's all we've got to say, ”Thank You.” Jesus healed ten lepers. Only one out of the ten came back to say, ”Thank You”, and he wasn't even a Jew. He was a foreigner. What about you and I today?I remember many, many years ago, going to a beautiful church in Midrand in Johannesburg. As I walked into the doors of that church, there was a big neon sign up in the front of the church which said, “Missionary work is gratitude for Calvary.” That has stuck with me all these years. I'm talking maybe over 30 years ago. People go to the mission field because they want to say “thank You” to Jesus for what he has done in their lives. It is so sad when a man gets despondent when he says, ”I've done all this work for these people and not one of them appreciates it.” If you are doing it for Jesus, your reward will be from Him. : ”And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.”Matthew 25:40That is why we go to the mission field. That is why we are determined to tell people about Jesus Christ, because we are not doing it even for the people, we are doing it for Him, because He told us to go into all the world and to preach the Gospel to every creature. When I fell in love with the Lord Jesus Christ, on the 18th of February, 1979, I could not contain myself. I wanted everyone to have the peace, the joy and the love in their hearts that I had, and that is why I would do the most outrageous things when I look back on it. It wasn't for any self-gain at all. It was just my way of saying, ”Thank You Jesus, for healing me, for setting me free, for giving me new life.” He says, ”Every time you do it to somebody who can't give you anything back, you are doing it for Me.”Now, today, let us not be like the nine who just went away and forgot to say thank You to the Master. Let us be like that one foreigner who came all the way back and said, ”Lord, thank You for healing me.”Jesus bless you and goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 19th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Deuteronomy 10:22:”Your fathers went down to Egypt with seventy persons, and now the Lord your God has made you as the stars of heaven in multitude.” Then we go to Zachariah 4:10: “For who has despised the day of small things?” I want to speak to you today about small beginnings. Seventy people went down to Egypt, and God has multiplied that little band of people into a mighty nation. He delights in small things. Remember the little boy with the two sardines and the five barley loaves of bread? The Lord Jesus took them, prayed over them, multiplied them and fed five thousand men, not including women and children, and that is why I love Him so much!Today, I don't know what you are going through. Maybe your business is taking major strain. Maybe your degree is getting too much for you and you don't think that you will ever complete it at university. Maybe you have just started a new venture and it's just not going so well. What must you do? You must continue to trust the Lord. The Lord has not forgotten you. I can only share with you a personal story.I came back from bonny Scotland in 1993. I'd been preaching over there. I sat down in my little house, one that we made out of wattle and mud, and I felt the Lord Jesus tell me to write my story. Now, as you know, I don't have much education, and I started to write a little book which became a movie, which has just been resigned for a further fifteen years with Sony. What is the name of that movie? It is called “Faith like Potatoes” and all the glory this morning to our Lord Jesus Christ! Do not despise small beginnings. That movie and book are in seventeen different languages throughout the world. You might ask a question, why does God do that? I believe one of the main reasons is because He will share His glory with no man. When you do something for the Lord and it is something which is unbelievable, people will say that man didn't do that, that was God who did that. So today, do not despise small beginnings.Jesus bless you and goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Monday morning, the 18th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Gospel of Luke 17:5-6: “And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith. So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you.”I am talking this morning about faith. “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”Hebrews 11:6 As I was meditating on this scripture early this morning in my quiet time room, the Lord brought to memory what took place in my life on the 17th of November, 1989, a long time ago. I was sitting having my quiet time. I had been reading a book written by John Wimber, called Evangelism Explosion. In the back of that book, there were a whole lot of anecdotes and little cameos of mighty men and women of God who dared to believe God and to trust God by faith, and how the Lord had used them. Very few of them were qualified. They were ordinary working people just like you and I, and I got so excited. I got on my phone. In those days, we had the old phone, you had to crank it up, and I got hold of my pastor in Grey Town and I said to him, “Gavin, the Lord has revealed something to me today and I have to share it with you.” And he said, “What is it?” I said, “I have just been reading a book about men and women of God who have been used mightily by the Lord, and there is a golden thread that goes through each one of their stories, and it is one word, 'faith', having faith the size of a mustard seed."He got so excited, he turned around and took his ball-point pen, and wrote on the wall of his office, and the office had just recently been painted, and he wrote, “17th November '89” and he put my name there, and it stayed there until that church got repainted. Well, I want to tell you, that was the beginning. From there, I took that seed of faith and I went to a nearby town called Ladysmith, and I booked the town hall, the first thing I had ever done in my life, and that was the beginning of what the Lord has done, by faith, nothing to do with me.Today, I challenge you to trust the Lord for that thing that you are believing for, but it must be so big that if it is not of God, it is going to fail. Why? Because when it works, God gets all the glory. Jesus bless you walk by faith and not by sight.Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Sunday morning, the 17th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go straight to the Book of Romans 4:17: “God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;…” Then of course we have got to go to the Book of James 2:23: “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God.” There are not many places in the Bible where God calls any man His friend. Everybody wants to be God's friend. The Bible tells us that God looked down from Heaven, He saw that farmer, Abraham, because Abraham believed Him, and He called Abraham His friend.I got a beautiful message all the way from the Outback of Australia, where the tough men farm, where sometimes it doesn't rain for maybe up to 7 years, and these men, by faith, plant their crops every year, trusting by faith that God will honour them. He sent me this little quotation and I think it is priceless, and I want to share it with you. He says, “What's going on around you is only limited by what's going on in you.” Don't you think it is special? I really have sat and thought about this saying. It is so deep. “What's going on around you is only limited by what's going on in you.”Abraham was 100 years old. His wife was in her 90's. God said, “You are going to be the father of many nations. You are going to have a son and you will name him Isaac, and Isaac will be the father of many nations.” If you love Jesus Christ today, my dear friend, and you are a follower of Christ, you are a son or a daughter of Abraham by faith. What you say is what you get. When I was farming as a young man and I had come to know Christ as my Saviour, we had no irrigation on this farm, nothing, and when things got dry, I got on my knees, and I started to pray the prayer of faith, calling those things that aren't as if they were, getting in my pick-up every morning and driving around the crop as the maize was starting to die, and saying, “Lord, I believe in the promises of God. Lord, you said it, I believe it and that settles it.” And that is exactly what happened.Today, start to call those things that aren't as if they were by faith and trust the love of Christ to bring them into being. Have a wonderful day, Jesus bless you and goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 16th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go straight to the Book of Galatians 3:2-3. The Lord says: “This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?” Jesus Christ is our only source of salvation. We have got to stop striving and trying to earn God's favour. You can't work your way to Heaven. It is for free. His love and His favour are free. Free means gratis, for nothing - not for nothing, it cost Jesus Christ His life, so that your sins and my sins could be washed away. You see, you can't pay for it, you can't work for it, and you can't earn it! You have just got to believe it.That beautiful scripture in Ephesians 2:8:"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,…” What a beautiful scripture, and we thank the Lord for it, because that is where you and I can put our trust and hope in. We only have to believe. Now let's finish this race, you and I, the way we started, by just saying thank you to the Lord. He paid for it all. Remember that little song? We have sung it before. It goes like this:He paid a debt He did not oweI owed a debt I could not payI needed someone to wash my sins away. And now I sing a brand new songAmazing graceChrist Jesus paid a debt that I could never pay!I am going to sing it again because I want you to hear these words. I am listening to them myself. It is good news, my friend. It's wonderful! He paid a debt He did not oweI owed a debt I could not payI needed someone to wash my sins away. And now I sing a brand new songAmazing graceChrist Jesus paid a debt that I could never pay!Father, I pray for my friend listening to this message, that he or she will understand one thing today - our way to Heaven is not by good works. It is by believing that Jesus Christ died for all of my sins.God bless you and goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Friday morning, the 15th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Gospel of Luke 16:11-12:”Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in what is another man's, who will give you what is your own?” Those are strong words spoken by the Master Himself, our Lord Jesus Christ. Because we are Christians, that does not give us an excuse to be second-rate, to be slack, to be lazy, or not to do our best at work.If we are to be ambassadors of Jesus Christ in the workplace, then we need to do it as if we were doing it to God Himself. We need to operate in our God-given gift. I don't know how many young men and women I meet sometimes, ”I just want to serve the Lord.” Well, serve Him in the business field first, before you want to go out and preach to others. Now the Lord Jesus is talking about a man who is shrewd. “Shrewd” means having or showing sharp powers of judgement, being an astute operator or businessman. We need to work hard in the business field, not only for ourselves, but for our fellowman, but mainly for the Lord. Do it well, not for personal gain but as a witness for Jesus. Be the best farmer you can be. Be the best professional sportsman or woman you can be. Be a good teacher, an artist, a doctor, a truck driver as unto the Lord. I read something very encouraging and it goes like this: Individuals who integrate their Christian faith into their business practices and leadership, that's what God is looking for - integrity, honesty, service, impacting communities especially in the workplace, living out their faith in the marketplace.I looked up John D Rockefeller, an American businessman. He was in the oil business. They say that he was the most successful businessman of his era. He reminds me of Joseph. You know that Pharaoh made Joseph his prime minister. He was the second most powerful man on earth. Remember, he was a slave, sold into slavery, he made an impact, he saved a nation.Today, use your God-given gifts for the glory of God and enjoy what you're doing.Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day, Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 14th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Gospel of Luke 15:31: “And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours.” That was the response of the father when the prodigal son had come home after wasting all his money, and his father was so pleased to see him come back that he killed the fatted ox, and he had a party for his young son. The older son had been working all day in the fields. He came home and saw what his father had done for his brother and he was plain jealous. Another word for jealousy is resentment, bitterness, holding a grudge. Now I can hear somebody saying, “But I would be the same as the older son! I mean that young boy demanded his inheritance. He went and blew it on wine, women and song, lost everything, cost his dad and his older brother a lot more blood, sweat and tears, then he comes home and his dad treats him like a prince.” We need to be so careful that we do not lose our focus. His dad said, ”Son, I have given you everything I've got, you are going to inherit this farm. Why are you so upset?” We need to be so careful that we don't forget what God has given to us. Like you get a man who has been in the far country, he's been a reveller, a drinker, a fighter, a thief, then he comes to Christ and his sins are forgiven. They've been washed away. He is a brand new man in Christ.” …if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away…” 2 Corinthians 5:17Now, when you see that, and you've been serving the Lord for maybe 20 - 30 years, and this new boy on the block, he seems to be getting all the accolades, all the privileges and everybody's excited about him, but I want to say to you that the Lord loves you. He loves your faithfulness, He loves your hard work, He loves the fact that you have not dropped the ball, you have never let the Lord down, and there is a great reward waiting for you and me when we get to heaven. Remember, this is not the end of the road. This is only the beginning of the road! So have mercy on the person who has made a big mistake, but who has come home. Give them grace, give them love, let them get excited. Don't correct them all the time because they are so full of joy, their sins have been forgiven. Just remember that there is a great reward waiting in heaven for your obedience, your faithfulness, not falling by the way, but keeping on for the Lord.Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 13th August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in Psalm 20:7: ”Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.” Our faithful God who keeps His promises! Then we go to Genesis 40:23. Remember, Joseph had interpreted the dreams of the butler and yet the chief butler did not remember Joseph but forgot him. Joseph said to him,“When you meet with Pharaoh and you find favour with Pharaoh, don't forget to put in a good word for me.” And he forgot. How often have we been in that situation? Who do you and I put our trust in? Who can you trust today? You can't even trust yourself, can you? We need to remember to keep our promises.I want to start with a Marriage Covenant. Husbands, you made a promise on the day that you got married that you would be faithful to your wife, and I want to say to that young lady, you made a promise on the day of your wedding that you would remain faithful to your husband. It is a Marriage Covenant. We need to keep it.What about appointments? You know, some people make a joke of it. They say, ”Oh, he's always late.” I want to say to you it's just as easy to be early as it is to be late. In fact, when you are late, you are showing that person you don't really value them, otherwise you would be on time. You see, the Master was never early, He was never late, He was always on time.If you go to the Gospel of John 11:32, you see Mary was so upset because her brother had died, and they had waited for Jesus to come and He came four days later. She said in verse 32: “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.” But of course we know the end story. Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Please today, if you make your child a promise - you say, ”Son, I'm coming to watch you play your sports match today,” you better be there. “No, but maybe there'll be something else.” If you made the promise, keep it, because If you let him down, you let her down, they won't forget that in a hurry. If you are trying to influence a young lady, young man, don't be late for your appointment. Be early, and don't forget to bring a bunch of roses with you when you take her out.Jesus bless you and keep your promise, Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 12th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Genesis 39:3:”And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand.” Then we go straight to 1 Corinthians 10:12:”Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.” What had happened was Joseph had found favour with Potiphar, Pharaoh's officer. The Bible tells us that Joseph was a very handsome young man and everything he did, he succeeded in and Potiphar gave him control over his whole household, but there was problem. There was Potiphar's wife who looked at Joseph and wanted to sleep with Joseph. Joseph did not yield to the temptation, but it got him into big trouble.I want to say to you today, be careful how you stand lest you fall - that's what the Lord says! You know, the most dangerous place to be is really in a place where you are succeeding. When you are taking strain and you're down on you knees, you can't fall any further, can you? But when you succeed the devil will try everything to tempt you to fall. When your business is going well and you, all of a sudden, start throwing caution to the wind, as they say. You start taking chances because you think you can't fail and that is when you overstep your mark and you end up getting into big financial trouble. We really need to be careful. You know, I heard a very sad story about a young golf professional. He was a rookie, he had just started. A very big club employed him, the people loved him, he was a good looking man, he was a very good golfer. He had great prospects, and after he had played his 18 holes, the older guys in the club would invite him up to come and have a drink with them. He said, ”Sir, I don't drink, but thank you for the kind offer.” But they persisted. You see, just like Potiphar's wife persisted with Joseph, but unlike Joseph, this young man eventually said he would go up to the club and have a few drinks. Of course, he continued to do that and eventually he started to have a drinking problem. The tragedy is, the very same men who persuaded him to come and have a drink with them said, “Let's get this youngster out of the club because he's become a drunkard and he's an embarrassment to us.” The very same people! Be careful how you stand today, lest you fall. Do not let success cause you to be tempted to compromise your stand for God.Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Monday morning, the 11th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go straight to Psalms 62:5: ”My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him.” Then out of the Message translation, it says: God, the one and only—I'll wait as long as he says. Everything I need comes from him, so why not?” Then the last one is from the Passion translation. It says: ”I am standing in absolute stillness, silent before the one I love. Waiting as long as it takes for Him to rescue me. Only God is my saviour and He will not fail me.” Who do you have your expectation in today? Is it the Government? No, you say you're very disappointed. Is it maybe your favourite sports team that has let you down again and you're feeling so despondent today? Is it maybe more personal? Is it at work? Has your employer disappointed you? What about at home? How is it with your wife? How is it with your husband? Have they disappointed you? What about your children? Are they just not performing at school or university? It's costing you an arm and a leg and they just don't seem to be trying their best? You see, the problem is not with all of those things. The problem is with us, with you and me. Our expectation is in the wrong place. Our expectation needs to be in God alone! One of my favourite scriptures is found in Hebrews 13:6: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” If Jesus Christ is Lord of your life this morning, you have nothing to be afraid of. You will not be disappointed and He will not fail you.Do you know that beautiful chorus, He is Lord? Maybe you and I today need to sing it. Maybe we haven't sung it for a long time. Please join me:For He is Lord, He is Lord,He has risen from the dead, and He is Lord.Every knee shall bow, every tongue confessthat Jesus Christ is Lord!Go out today and let your expectation be in Christ alone, and you will have a beautiful day!God bless you and goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Sunday morning, the 10th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to 2 Corinthians 9:7:”So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.” I want to say to you today that I read a beautiful article written by an elderly pastor from America, a man who I respect greatly, and I'm just going to read it to you. This is what it says:”Are you aware of what waiters and waitresses say about the Christians they serve? Do you have any idea how much they dread waiting on our tables in restaurants after church on Sundays or any other day, when we go in groups with big Bibles under our arms? We gobble up the food asking for this favour and that favour, seldom pausing long enough to smile or say, “Thank you”. That's bad enough, but when we leave a tip, that is more of an insult than a generous expression of gratitude! Just last week a waiter informed me that the place where he works has the toughest time getting a full crew of waiters who wait on tables on Sundays. “We'd all rather work late on Friday and Saturday nights, week after week, than work Sunday afternoons,” He said. When I asked, ”Why?” He told me, ”Because Christians are usually loud. They often lack good table manners, and they are stingy with the tips.” The waiter who spoke to me is a Christian. He's on our side and he's embarrassed! He says that he has a rough time talking to the crew about Christ after the place closes at night. They give him the cynical, ”You've got to be kidding!” response, that comes after six or eight Christ followers walk away, leaving a Christian tract or a one-dollar bill or maybe just the tract. Sometimes neither at all!If you're among the thoughtful, the gracious, the kind who leave a full 15% or more, keep it up, may your tribe increase, but if you're the type who falls into the tightfisted and less than thoughtful category, how about thinking of your witness as something more than a Bible in your pocket and words out of your mouth. Sometimes it's what comes out of your pocket after something has gone into your mouth, and I'm not referring to a tract. Listen, it's possible to give away and become richer. It is possible to hold on too tightly and lose everything. Yes, the liberal man shall be rich by watering others he waters himself. (Proverbs 11:24-25). Come on Christian, loosen up! If you can afford to eat out, you can also handle a healthy tip. Maybe all you needed was a shot in the arm.”Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day and don't forget to tip generously,Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 9th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in 2 Timothy 1:5: “…when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.“Today in South Africa, we remember National Women's Day. I want to pay tribute today to the women. Lois and Eunice are not names that are used a lot in this day and age, but Lois was Timothy's grandmother, and Eunice was Timothy's mother, and these two ladies had a profound influence on the apostle Timothy's life. Installed by the power of the Holy Spirit, Timothy had faith, so much so that the great apostle Paul mentioned it. He said, “That faith is also in you.”I want to say today to the men, we need to love our women. In fact, that's what the word says. It says, “Women submit to your husbands, but husbands, love your wives.” We need to treat them in a very special way because we need to respect them as handmaidens of the Lord. You know that Mary Magdalene was a huge influence on Jesus' life. She was so faithful. She remained faithful to Jesus when all the disciples ran away and forsook Him. She never left His side.I want to tell you a little story. My mother told me that when I was a newly born baby, I don't think I was two or three months old, I had a digestive problem where the food could not go into my stomach. She took me to the doctors. They put me in hospital. Eventually, I lost so much weight that I was skin and bone. The doctor said to my mother, ”Take him home because there's nothing more we can do for him. Take him home to die.” But my mother persisted, she never gave up, she prayed. She kept on putting those bottles of milk into my stomach and I kept bringing them up until one day, and she'll never forget it, she gave me a bottle of milk and it never came up and that was the beginning of the rest of my life. My mother, what a wonderful woman of God. I had the privilege of leading her to Jesus Christ. Women have incredible resilience, strength, and determination. You know the founder of the Salvation Army, William Booth said, ”My best soldiers are women.” Today ladies, we want to respect you, honour you, and tell you that we love you and that we could not live without you.Jesus bless you and goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Friday morning, the 8th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the first book in the Bible, Genesis 37:8: “And his brothers said to him, “Shall you indeed reign over us? Or shall you indeed have dominion over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.” Then we go to the Gospel of Luke 2:19: “But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.”Be very careful how you speak. Joseph, with the coat of many colours - he had those dreams. He shared them with his brothers. The dreams were not wrong, they were quite correct, but the timing was so bad that his brothers actually hated him, the Bible says. Even his mother and father were also very upset when he shared these dreams with them. There is a time to speak and there is a time to be quiet. Mary, the mother of Jesus, did not tell everybody what the Archangel Gabriel had told her. She kept all these things in her heart and she pondered them. We really need to be wise. Some of us, and I am probably one of the worst, we speak too quickly. We need to wait and allow others to speak on our behalf, or wait for the action to take place and it speaks by itself. Don't keep telling everybody.I looked up the word, “discretion”. Now, I really want you to listen to this, especially the young people. It means to be careful and prudent in one's speech or actions, especially so as to avoid giving offence or attracting attention. We don't have to attract attention to ourselves. If God has done something great in our lives, let the action speak for itself. Don't go around blabbing about what the Lord is going to do in your life, or a word, because all it will do is cause contention, especially in the home. There is a time and a place for everything. Joseph messed up big time because he spoke too quickly and told too many people. Today, go to the closet, speak to the Lord, share your heart with Him, and He will tell you at the right time and the right place to share your vision with others.Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 7th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Book of Isaiah 42:1: ”Behold! My Servant whom I uphold…” Then we go to the Gospel of Matthew 12:18. Again, our Heavenly Father says: “Behold! My Servant whom I have chosen, My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased!” Our Heavenly Father is talking about His only Son, Jesus Christ, and He refers to Him as His Servant. You and I are called to be servants. Our Saviour is a foot washer. He's a washer of people's dirty feet. The greatest thing He ever did was to die for us and that very night that He was betrayed, you can imagine what was waiting for Him, and He knew it, what did He do? He washed His disciples' feet first, before He went out to be crucified. Paul, in my humble opinion, probably the greatest of all the apostles, says, “Imitate me as I imitate Christ.”I want to tell you a little story. Early this morning, like I do every morning, I got up and made my wife, Jill, a cup of tea. As I was going through to my prayer room to start to prepare and seek the Lord for this very message that I am delivering to you today, I happened to walk past the kitchen, and last night we went to bed early and some dishes were in the sink that hadn't been washed. And I thought, “Well, Jill will get up just now and then she will wash them,” and I felt the Holy Spirit say to me, “What would Jesus do?” And I had to stand still. I said, “I am sure He would wash the dishes first.” So I turned around, washed the dishes, dried them, and put them in their rightful place. Then I came through to my prayer room, and I am now delivering to you the message which the Lord gave to me today.Today, wash the dishes, make that favourite meal for your husband. Ja, but you know I am also holding down a job, and it is much easier just to go in and get something ready-made from the shops. No, make something for him. It doesn't matter if you are not the best cook. It will mean so much to him. Mow the lawn for your mom and dad. No, but we have a contractor that does that. You do that. It will make such a difference. Let's be like Jesus today! Remember, charity, which is another word for love, charity begins at home. God bless you as you wash the dishes,Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 6th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start off in the Gospel of Luke 14:34-35. Jesus says: “Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its flavour, how shall it be seasoned? It is neither fit for the land nor for the dunghill, but men throw it out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” When salt has lost it's flavour it's not even any good for fertiliser but to be thrown out on the road and disregarded completely. Then we go to Revelation 3:16: “So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.” Words of the Lord! Very, very hard words but serious words. We need to be salty. We cannot be indifferent. We cannot sit on the fence. It's a very uncomfortable place to sit, especially if it is a barbed-wire fence. We need to let our “yes” be yes, and we need to make sure and let our “no” be no. You know folks, I want to say something to you. People don't have to like you but they must respect you, and that is so important. We cannot hunt with the hounds one day and run with the hares another day. We have got to be definite. With my Scottish roots, our national food is porridge. Have you ever tried to eat a plate of porridge with no salt? It is tasteless. It is so bland, I won't even eat it. It needs to be salty. The Lord wants you and I today to become salty. We need to know the Bible and when people ask us an opinion, we need to be able to give it to them straight. Do many roads lead to Heaven? You must be able to say, “No, John 14:6 says Jesus is the way. There is no other way.” People might not like it but it is the truth and they will respect you for it. Today, let us become salty so that we can help those who are undecided, those who cannot make up their minds. Let us be those that are black and white, no grey area in our conversation.Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 5th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start off in the Book of Genesis 37:2:”…and Joseph brought a bad report of them to his father.” Then we go straight to Acts 10:34:”Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality.” There are no favourites in God's kingdom and that's good news. If we look through the Bible, time and time again, favourites cause trouble. Rebecca, the mother of Esau and Jacob, her twins - if you read the story you'll see she favoured Jacob more than Esau and that caused a lot of pain, a lot of hurt and a lot of pressure. Don't put your children under that kind of pressure. I'm talking to parents today. That coat of many colours caused Joseph a lot of pain. It caused him to be sent away by his brothers. They sold him into slavery and he had a terrible life until the Lord redeemed him. Don't do it!That teacher's pet is not a child that gets special treatment, normally it ends up that that child gets ostracised by the rest of the students in the class. We need to treat our children equally. We need to love them equally. It doesn't matter if you have a particular soft spot for a child because that child is excelling in sport, the sport that you excelled in at school, or that child is very musical and you happen to be a good musician, so you show partiality to that child. Don't do that! We need to make sure that our children know that they are loved equally by mom and dad and that will give them peace and an opportunity to excel in their particular areas. Today, mom and dad, let us really have a good hard look at our children, at our family, and by the way some of those children are already grown up and have children of their own, and yet they still feel that mom and dad had favourites. Today, let us be as Jesus is. He sees no partiality in colour, in culture, in sex. He sees us all as His creation. He loves us all equally and He died for us all equally. Today, remember you are very special in the eyes of the Lord.Jesus bless you and have a lovely day, Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Monday morning, the 4th of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start off in Psalm 19:14: “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heartBe acceptable in Your sight,O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.”We have got to be so careful what we say, folks. You know, the most powerful member of the human body, the tongue. The tongue can make or break a person very quickly. We go to the Book of James 3:10: “Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening?” Of course not! There is a young man that I am mentoring. He sent me a beautiful message the other day and I really want to share this with you. He is speaking about the honey bee. Now, you know I am a bee-keeper. I love bees, I really do. They are incredible insects but the bee can be sweet and the bee can sting. Ask me about it! I know. That little bee can get in anywhere and he can sting you. I am talking particularly about the African bee, and the same thing applies with our tongue. What we say can make or break a person. Death and life are found in our very words. I want to encourage you today, even as the Lord is encouraging me, to be very careful how we talk. If you have got nothing good to say about someone, rather don't say anything but rather encourage one another. This world at the moment is in a terrible state. People are depressed, they are stressed out, they are fearful. A word in season, an encouraging word can make or break a person. I want to speak to my men. Men, build up your wives, tell them every single morning when you wake up… the first thing I tell Jill, I have been doing it for over 50 years, “Good morning Jill. I love you!” You know, those words are very powerful and she reciprocates. She says, “And I love you too, Angus”. Tell your children that you love them. When they come home with their school report. “Is that the best that you did?”, “Yes, that's the best I could do, dad.”“Well, that is good enough for me and it's good enough for your mother.”I want to tell you I don't know how many times people have written to me and told me, “We enjoyed that little message you brought this morning.” It makes my day! You say, “But Angus, you get that all the time.” No, I don't. Today, let us be the honey bee that makes the sweet honey, not the bee that stings.Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Sunday morning, the 3rd of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go straight to the Gospel of Luke 14:18 and 24:”But they all with one accord began to make excuses.” Then we go right down to verse 24. Jesus says: “For I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my supper.” This is a story that Jesus told about a man who prepared a wonderful banquet, invited his guests, then they all made excuses, they couldn't come. I believe the Lord is challenging us this morning and saying, ”Stop making excuses, no more excuses!” You see the servant went and invited all the people and the first one said, ”Look, I can't make it. I've just bought a new piece of ground and I must go and see it.” The next one said, ”Please excuse me because I've just bought five yokes of oxen and I have to test them. Can you please excuse me?” Another one said, ”I've just got married so I can't come.” What is your excuse today? What is my excuse today? We cannot come. “Lord we want to serve you but we've got too much on our plate.” We want to have a bit of fun first, we want to sow some wild oats and then we will make our decision and come to the banquet. The Lord says that it might be too late.I want to tell you a story that happened to Jill and I. Many years ago, we went to Israel. Now on our return home after our break there, I got the times mixed up. You see the plane was leaving at midnight. Now I didn't know whether it was the early hours of the morning or the late hours of the previous evening. Anyway, I got there, I was devastated. The lady said to us, ”Your plane has already left. It's on it's way to South Africa.” They had to put us in a hotel in Tel Aviv and we had to stay there for a number of days until we could get another booking.I want to tell you today, don't make anymore excuses. There is nothing more important than accepting the invitation to the banquet by the Lord. Maybe you've never done it, maybe you've always said, ”Ah, that's for other people, that's not for me.” I want to tell you as I'm getting older the time is running out. I don't know how many of my colleagues of my age group have gone home to be with the Lord or have gone somewhere else, but I want to tell you today, accept gladly the invitation because remember what the host said to his servant? ”Go out to the highways and the byways and invite all those who are blind and lame, and those who are sick, and those who are sleeping in the streets. Bring them to the banquet.” Do not be left behind! As an indication that you've accepted the invitation. Would you like to pray this prayer with me? Dear Lord Jesus,Please forgive me for making excuses. I do realise there is nothing more important than accepting this invitation which You have freely given to us. We don't deserve it but because you love us, You have invited us to Your table. Today, I accept Your invitation. In Jesus name, amen.God bless you and goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 2nd of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Gospel of Luke 14:14. Jesus says: “And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you; for you shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just.” The Lord is telling us that if you give things to people who can repay you, well, you have your reward here on earth, but if you give things to people who cannot repay you, then there is the proof that you are doing it for the Lord, and you will be paid amply when you get to Heaven.George Müller, the founder of the children's homes in Bristol, England, I have been there - I have seen those buildings where he took care of literally thousands of children, and something like 60 million pounds went through his hands, and he never asked for a penny. Incredible faith! But when he died and he left very little. They checked on the accounts and when they were going through the finances, they saw that there was a donor that had been putting money into the children's fund for years and years, and they never knew who it was. But of course, when he died and his estate was wrapped up, they found out that George Müller, himself, was putting in an amount of money every single month towards the children's home. Now, that is doing something as unto the Lord. You and I need to start doing that a bit more. It hasn't happened to me often but it has happened to me a few times, that when I have gone out for a meal with my wife and we sat at the restaurant and had a good time together, there have been lots of people in the restaurant, we have ordered a lovely meal, and when we have finished, I say to the waitress, “Can you bring us the bill please?” And she says, “Oh no, sir. There is no bill.” And I say, “What do you mean?” She says, “There are people who have just left the restaurant who paid for your meal”. I don't know who they are, but God knows who they are. I have never seen them before because I did not recognise anybody in that restaurant. I want to say to you today, do something that there is no reward for on this earth and the Lord will reward you amply in Heaven. Do something for people who cannot repay you.Jesus bless you and goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Friday morning, the 1st of August, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Psalms 18:32: ”It is God who arms me with strength, and makes my way perfect.” Then we go to a very well-known scripture, 2 Corinthians 12:10: ”Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” I want to say to you today, if you are feeling weak, maybe you are feeling I just can't go on anymore, lock into God. It's a good place to be. Sometimes it's a dangerous place when you think you've got it all together, you've got it all tied up. That's when the fall normally comes, but I tell you what, when you are on your knees and you are weak, you can't fall any further. I don't know how many times I've had to speak at a big open-air meeting, where there are multitudes of people. I go up the steps onto that platform, and I'm being honest with you, I feel absolutely weak and powerless, and that's when I cry out to God. ”Lord, please, please, help me.” And you know something? Every single time, He helps me and He'll do it for you too.It doesn't matter what you're going through at the moment. Remember, when you are weak, then He is strong. That's why Paul can say, ”I rejoice in my tribulation. Tribulation worketh patience, patience character and character hope.” (Romans 5:3-4)I want to say to you that humble people are normally people who have been through fiery trials. I get fearful sometimes with some young people who are out there, and they can do it all and they name it and they claim it. It's almost like they're getting ready for a fall. So folks, I want you to understand one thing. The Lord is our strength, and He is the One Who will see you and me through if we put our total trust in Him.May God bless you, especially when you're feeling weak, because that is when you will be strong,Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 31st of July, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the first book in the Bible, the Book of Genesis 32:32: ”…He touched the socket of Jacob's hip in the muscle that shrank.” The Lord touched the hip of Jacob and displaced his hip and for the rest of his life, he limped with a displaced hip. Then we go straight to 2 Corinthians 12:8-9, Paul says: “Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”I want to speak to you today about pain. Are you in pain today? Have you just lost a loved one, someone very close to you? Have you just had an injury and the doctor says you will never play sport again? Have you had a situation where you are physically weak and the one you love the most has left you because he or she said they can't live with you? Well, I want to tell you something now. The Lord says to you today and to me, “My grace, my undeserved loving kindness is enough for you.”Folks, I know about healing. I pray for the sick. I have seen blind eyes open, I have seen deaf ears unstopped, I have seen people get out of wheelchairs and walk. I have seen it with my eyes. You have seen the movie, “Faith Like Potatoes”, where we prayed for a dead woman and God raised her up, but I want to speak to you today about pain.My best example is a hero of mine. A Scottish preacher by the name of George Matheson. At the age of twenty years old, he started going blind and his fiancée left him. She said, ”I can't live with a blind man for the rest of my life.” I want to tell you about that man. That man was tipped to be one of the greatest preachers in Scotland, but because he went blind, he was put on the side, but you know what he did? When he was sitting in the lounge, when his young sister was about to get married. They were doing all the preparations. She was his eyes, you see. She had dedicated her life to helping him, and now she had found her lover, and she was getting married and she was about to leave him. He was forty years old, he was all by himself. He sat in the corner and he wrote a hymn, probably one of the greatest hymns ever written, “Oh love that will not let me go, I hide myself in thee.”You know, it's only when an orange gets squeezed that you can taste the beautiful nectar. Today, maybe you're going through a rough time. The Lord says to you, ”My Grace is sufficient for you.” Trust in Him and He will do the rest for you because He is more than you or I will ever need!Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day, Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 30th of July, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Gospel of Luke 14:3: “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?” That is what the Pharisees were asking Jesus. Jesus answered in verse 5. He says: “Which of you, having a donkey or an ox that has fallen into a pit, will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?” We are talking this morning about priorities. What is important in your life? Going to church on the Sabbath? Absolutely! You can ask any member of my family and they will tell you, if it is at all possible, that is where I will be on Sunday morning, but what Jesus is saying, “What about the ox or the donkey who has fallen into a hole on a Sunday?" Do you leave it there until after the church service then pull it out and probably find that it is dead? No, you have to stop. You have to take your jacket off, you have to roll up your sleeves, you have to get covered in mud, and pull that animal out to save its life, then go to church. Then, of course, the Pharisees in the church criticise you because they will say, “Look how dirty that person is coming into the house of the Lord.”I want to say something to you, my dear friend. Many times it has happened to me. As we are driving out of the gate of the farm, what do we see? All the cows are on the district road. Now that is a huge danger for traffic. What do we do? We stop. We have to push all the cattle back into the paddock, close the gate and go to church. When we get to church, we are late, and the Pharisees are saying, ”Look at these people! They don't even respect the house of God.” We need to be very careful that we don't point fingers until we know the full story. I am an evangelist, you know that - my busiest day is on a Sunday, that's right, when everybody is in church. So when do I go to church? I go to church every single day of the week. Every morning, I am a 4 o'clock man, you know that. That's when I spend time in the presence of God, just like my Saviour did, but when the ox is in the hole, pull him out first. It might be somebody who just absolutely needs you. You say “But I can't be late for church.” What is more important? To help who is destitute and stranded on the road, or to make sure that you get to church and you are all nice and tidy and clean? Let's get our priorities in order.God bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 29th of July, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go the Gospel of Luke 13:34. Jesus says:”How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing!”So sad. If you ever have the privilege of going to Israel and you sit on the side of the Mount of Olives, you look straight across the Kidron valley, and you see the Temple Mount on the other side. Now Jesus sat there and He wept over Jerusalem. He said like a mother hen protects her brood of chicks, He wants to do the same for you and me today. Please let Him! There is a little chapel that is built there in the shape of a teardrop. Isn't that beautiful? I've sat in that little chapel and there are pictures of little chickens and chicks inside the chapel to remind us of this statement that the Lord made. Many years ago, a pastor told me a story about something he saw on the slopes of the mighty Drakensberg Mountains in KwaZulu-Natal. They had been burning firebreaks, and those fires on the side of the mountain are vicious, and they run at a tremendous speed, and often people are overcome by the smoke and the fumes and even get burnt to death. They were walking over the ashes of a firebreak that they had made because it was winter time and there they found a little partridge, a Franklin, and this partridge was lying on the ground. It had been burnt. The fire had gone over it but it's wings were stretched out and one of the men took that little partridge and turned it over and underneath that mother hen were four or five little partridge chicks. She had protected them with her very life.Today, Jesus wants to do the same for you. He is weeping because He sees what you are doing to yourself and what you are doing to others. Repent today, say “Sorry Lord,” and turn from your wicked ways and start to follow Him with all of your heart.Jesus bless you and goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Monday morning, the 28th of July, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the first book of the Bible, Genesis 32:6:”Then the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, “We came to your brother Esau, and he also is coming to meet you…” Remember, Jacob and Esau fell out because Jacob robbed Esau of his inheritance. There was a tremendous amount of hatred involved. In fact Esau swore that he was going to kill his brother, Jacob. Then we go straight to 1 John 4:20. The Lord says:”If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?” A very stern word for you and me today from the Lord. The Lord basically says, 'Settle your differences.' Do not carry that grudge. Sort it out! We have to, for God's sake, and I'm not swearing either, I mean it. How can we expect the Lord Jesus Christ to forgive us when we can't forgive our brother? When you do forgive then all of a sudden there's a peace that comes over your heart isn't there? You can sleep better at night, can't you? You know the word “restitution”? I looked it up in the Oxford dictionary, it means to restore, to pay for injury or loss that has been suffered. We need to deal with our differences. If you're a runner, you will understand what I'm going to say. When you are running a race, maybe 20, 30, 40 kilometres and there is a stone, a small stone, in your running shoe. Stop, take that shoe off, get rid of that little stone and then carry on running. If you don't, you won't finish the race. That little stone will cause a huge blister and you'll end up not being able to complete your race. I'm talking about small things.I remember, a man came to see me. He had come to one of the early Mighty Men Conferences and what he had done was, he wanted to take a memento back to his home. So he went into our maize field and picked a nice big mealie cob. It was dry by then, and he took it home as a reminder. You know that he was convicted by the Holy Spirit, and about twenty years later, he came to see me and he brought this old, old mealie and he said, ”I want to bring this back.” I laughed, but you know something? He was quite at peace after that.We had a young man that we were looking after here. We used to look after young men from overseas, and he had came from another country. He stole my Leatherman. I didn't even know it, I thought I'd lost it, and ten years later, he came back to see me on the farm and he brought that knife back. He said, ”I stole your knife. I am so sorry.”Today, settle your differences, and you'll be surprised how the Lord Jesus will bless you. God bless you and goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Sunday morning, the 27th of July, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Gospel of Matthew 7:13-14. Jesus says:“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”This Christian walk of ours is not easy. The Lord never promised us a rose garden but He did promise us that He would lead us if we will follow Him. When you go through that narrow gate, it is character-building stuff. We have to keep at it, no compromise, no bending the rules, no cheating because the way is narrow and it is steep and very difficult, but at the end of that road it is most rewarding. As a younger man, I used to love climbing to the mountain tops of the mighty Drakensberg Mountains, which lie about an hour and a half west of Shalom Farm. When you get out of the pick-up or out of the truck, everybody is excited. Put your rucksacks on, get your walking stick with you and off you go! The road is wide, it is smooth and there are many people that are walking on that road. But the amazing thing is, as you start to get higher, the oxygen is less, it's much steeper, the weather is all over the place, it can get windy, it can rain - you can get four seasons in one day, and the road gets much narrower. No more road, just a path. Eventually, the path gives up, there is no more path, and the only way you can get to the top, and it is quite perilous, is by following little cairns of stones that people have put in the way to show you the way to the top. That is how it is in life. When we get serious with God, He gets serious with us, but oh my dear friend, it is so worthwhile because eventually, when you get to the top, sometimes on your hands and knees, and you turn around and look out, you see the whole of KwaZulu-Natal. On a clear day, you can see to the ocean. It is mighty! There are only certain birds up there, such as the Lämmegeier, the bearded vulture, which has a wing span of about two metres, very few eagles, and definitely no house birds. However, it is invigorating. Now, keep on the road. Keep going through the narrow gate. Don't worry about the easy way that many people walk in, but that one does not lead to eternal life. Jesus bless you today as you keep your eyes fixed on the top of the mountain.Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 26th of July, 2025, and this is your friend Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Gospel of John 15:16, and this is Jesus Himself speaking. He says: “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.”I want to talk to you about fruit today. The Lord says we must bear fruit. Yes, we are talking about the fruit of the Spirit. When we bought the farm, one of the first things I did was plant a little orchard of fruit trees. I remember I put in 500 trees. I remember marking them out, getting the holes dug. I had all kinds of fruit but there was one fruit tree in that orchard that I always used to go to. It was one of the smallest trees, it had really struggled to make it through but it had come through strong. It never produced the quantity of fruit that some of the other trees produced, but one thing it did do, it produced quality. I would go to that plum tree and I would take one of those plums off the tree and when I bit into it, the flesh was blood red and it was the sweetest plum that I have ever tasted, and every year it gave me those beautiful plums, not many of them, but very tasty. You know, it's not about how much we produce. It is the quality of the fruit that we produce. We had a young lady in our congregation here on the farm. Her name is Sarah and she is with Jesus today. She was always very sickly, she had many operations, but I want to tell you, Sarah had the most beautiful smile that I think I have ever seen, and right up till the time that the Lord took her home, she never complained. She was always quick to greet everyone. She used to come over to me, I used to wait for it, and she would give me a big hug and ask how I was. She never complained about herself. She was one of God's choicest fruits. Don't be concerned today about how much fruit you are producing, rather work on the quality of the fruit that you are producing. We have a lady in our congregation who makes rusks. Now, if you don't come from South Africa, you don't know what a rusk is! It is a very hard biscuit that you dunk in your tea or coffee, early in the morning. It is a must for every farmer, and this lady makes the nicest rusks I have ever eaten in my life, and when Amanda brings me a packet of rusks, I tell you what - my face just lights up. Remember, produce fruit! Don't be so concerned about the quantity, make sure the quality is top-class.God bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye.
I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Friday morning, the 25th of July, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the book of Proverbs 20:7:“The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him.”Integrity means honesty. I want to speak to you today about dads. It's not Father's Day, but I just feel I need to share this with you. We really need to appreciate our dads. My dad was a blue collar worker. He was a trader, a blacksmith, but he was also a very honest man. My dad never owed anybody anything. We didn't have a lot at home, but everything we had, we owned. I remember when my dad was just about to meet the Lord, we had him in a very special place. I used to visit him every single day at a home in Greytown where he had special care. Every time I went in to see him, every single day, he would always ask me one question, “Angus, is there enough money in my account.” You see, I was looking after his finances in the last months of his life, and I always said, “Dad, there is plenty there.” He was an honest man. He was a man that I respected. He taught me a lot of things that I also try to pass on to my children and grandchildren, but I want to tell you something now, honesty is a great thing and I want to tell you something now, our children will be blessed by us if we set the standard. One day, my dad was getting ready to go to work and I was moaning and saying to mom, “Mom, I don't have a watch to wear, I don't have a wrist watch. All the other boys in my class have got watches. I don't have one.” My old dad took the watch off his wrist (this makes me emotional) and he gave it to me. He said, “Son, take this one”, and he gave it to me and went to work without a watch. I remember very clearly, my foreman on the farm, Simeon Bhengu, telling me after my dad had gone to be with the Lord. He said, “Every time my dad left the farm to go up and spend some time with my brother in Johannesburg, he would call the induna in. Now, my dad was a pensioner, he wasn't running the farm, he was staying on the farm, and he would say to Bhengu, ”Bhengu, Ngifuna ukunakekela umfana wami” (I want you to look after my boy). Now this boy was already forty years old and my dad was in his seventies. We thank God for dads. Today, tell your dad that you love him, that is all he wants to hear, nothing else.Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,Goodbye.
