Sarah talks about her first product which came from being a mom and seeing a need in the market. We also talk about selling on social media, specifically Instagram, and how people are watching you – in a not so creepy way, ha! What's the best career advice you have ever received? Clarity comes from action. No amount of thinking about will give you the answer. You have to go out, try it and either learn a lesson or keep going because you figured something out. What is your proudest career accomplishment and why? Not having a website for the longest time, but having people reach out to me about what I was doing and how I could help them, by simply showing up on social media consistently. I then had a client of my own do the same thing and landed her first client, so that felt awesome to just be reaffirmed, ok this works, you don't need to spend thousands of dollars or cold call a list to start an online business. What has been the hardest career moment and how did you overcome it? Deciding to leave a 6-figure job as a single mom and go out on my own with uncertainty, inconsistent income, and impostor syndrome. Join us for this “sales road trip” with Jules. What's the best career advice you have ever received? Apart from my Dad’s advice - ‘There’s no such word as can’t!’ My old boss from Yellow Pages used to say that every time someone said no to me in sales, I could put £1 in my pocket. Then when I got a yes I would have gathered a pocket full of £1’s towards it and I also learned to not take the no’s personally! What is your proudest career accomplishment and why? Gosh - lots really. There have been some awards I’ve won that I am very proud of - but I think my proudest moment was when my son commented on my TEDx video on YouTube telling me how proud he was of me that was a real moment as he didn’t tell me he had done it! What has been the hardest career moment and how did you overcome it? I lost my business - Truly Madly Baby and lost everything at the same time. I had a choice of going in the corner and crying or getting back up and starting again. I chose the latter - and I am so glad I did. My dad always told me that if you want to see it happen then get started on it. What is your proudest career accomplishment and why? Probably my last business- a full-scale party store. It was my biggest dream in both size and service. We did what "the big boys" did in our small town and I loved every minute of it. What has been the hardest career moment and how did you overcome it? I had spent 16 years in the newspaper business where I was able to utilize all of my entrepreneurial skills to build the paper up to be a shining star in our newspaper group and be promoted to Publisher because of it.. which I spent the last six years of my career there doing. There came a point when things began changing, both internally and externally, and I knew it was time to move on while I still loved what I was doing.
