This week Lara and Michael sit down with the founder and CEO of Palestinian Hustle, Samer Fidy. Samer shares the journey that led him to start the Palestinian-owned small business that donates a portion of every sale to charities in the United States fighting food insecurity, and NGOs on the ground in Gaza providing clean water. Samer speaks of his desire to teach his children about responsibility and giving back to both local and global communities. Michael jokes about Samer's affinity for Starbucks and contemplates whether or not one should strike up a conversation with your barista about Palestine. Samer surprises the Palestine Pod with stories of his past career pursuits then shares wild memories from his time living in Palestine. Finally, The Palestine Pod announces a limited apparel drop in collaboration with Palestinian Hustle, available on both our websites.
Welcome to Wildlife Conservation Insights Podcast. This is Episode 6. Today my guest is Dr. Fidisoa Rasambainarivo. Fidy and I met back in 2012 in Lyon, France, at the joint conference of the WDA and EWDA. At that time, I was still a vet student and Fidy was doing his master's degree. Dr. Rasambainarivo is a wildlife veterinarian interested in the ecological approaches of health and particularly the “One Health” concept and the field of “Conservation Medicine”. He studies the multiple interactions between human, domestic animal and wildlife health in Madagascar such as lemurs, rodents and carnivores. He obtained his PhD in Biology at the University of Missouri Saint Louis, USA. Fidy will tell us more about his research being done in Madagascar and how it is possible. Fidy will also tell us about Mahaliana, a company he co-founded: to help develop research and train students and veterinarians in Madagascar. This is all about building local capacity in Conservation medicine. Hope you enjoy the travel. Connect with Us! Our path to our dreams isn't always clear, and rarely goes as expected. That's certainly the case with Samer Fidy, today's guest on the What's the Point? podcast. Samer is a Palestinian-American, born in Brooklyn, spending about a decade in Palestine, and then returning to the U.S. His hasn't been an easy journey, but it has been one that has provided him with life lessons and a perspective that we can all benefit from. A few of the lessons he's learned along his journey include; don't be a victim, instead, accept & learn; create great habits: never get too comfortable. Spread Love, Help Others, and Always Hustle is at the heart of the company that Samer & his daughter, Bella, co-founded. Palestinian Hustle is an American-Palestinian company which promotes acceptance and understanding. They welcome any color, culture, or creed and they have no political affiliations. Samer's commitment is "I will always help you; I will always motivate you: I will always love you - let's be GREAT TOGETHER!
