This week's Mixtape Rewind goes to our most downloaded episode of all-time.  Our countdown of bullpen closer entrance songs. The bullpen door swings open, and suddenly the energy in the stadium shifts. A familiar song begins to play, and everyone knows what comes next – the closer is about to take the mound. Baseball's most pressure-packed moments have their own soundtrack, and in this episode, Matt and Samer break down the most iconic entrance songs in baseball closer history. From unexpected choices that became superstition-fueled traditions to deliberately intimidating anthems designed to strike fear into opposing batters, these musical selections reveal the psychology behind baseball's specialized relief pitchers. The episode takes listeners through surprising stories – like Craig Kimbrell adopting "Let It Go" from Frozen after his wife swapped his walk-up music on Women's Day, or John Smoltz strategically using ABBA's "Dancing Queen" to throw off opponents. You'll discover how Kenley Jansen's commitment to geography-based entrance music follows him from team to team, and why Edwin Diaz's entrance set to "Narco" suddenly exploded in popularity. As Matt and Samer approach their top picks, they analyze what makes certain songs particularly effective for the closer role – from instantly recognizable intros to lyrics that perfectly complement the situation. The tolling bells that announced Trevor Hoffman's arrival, the Irish rhythms that energized Fenway Park for Jonathan Papelbon, and of course, the definitive closer anthem that accompanied the greatest reliever of all time, Mariano Rivera.Whether you're a baseball fanatic or just appreciate the perfect marriage of music and sports, this countdown reveals how these carefully chosen songs transform ordinary pitching changes into theatrical moments that energize fans and intimidate opponents. Music possesses an almost magical ability to transform our emotional state, and nowhere is this more evident than with songs deliberately crafted to elicit joy. On this episode of Super Awesome Mix, we're returning to a favorite theme with Pure Joy Mix Volume 2, featuring twelve tracks scientifically engineered to boost your mood and put an irresistible smile on your face. We've structured this mix as a friendly competition between hosts, with Matt's selections comprising Side A and Samer's picks making up Side B. From the moment you press play, you'll feel the rush of dopamine that comes from Wham!'s iconic "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" and its instantly recognizable "jitterbug" intro. The journey continues through nostalgic hits like Blue Swede's "Hooked on a Feeling" and modern gems including Wet Leg's subversively joyful "Chaise Longue."Throughout our musical exploration, we unpack what makes certain songs universally uplifting – whether it's the infectious energy of Stevie Wonder's horns, the whistle-heavy hooks of Peter Bjorn and John that physically encourage smiling, or the self-affirming lyrics from Fitz and the Tantrums that remind us to "shine like the sun." We discover that joy comes in many forms: nostalgia, humor, empowerment, and the celebration of life's simple pleasures. This episode doesn't just offer a mood-lifting playlist. It provides insights into how different musical elements – from surprising intros that capture attention to lyrics that promote present-moment appreciation – work together to create an emotional response that's greater than the sum of its parts.

What makes Third Eye Blind a standout band from the 90s era? Join Matt and Samer as we reminisce about the unforgettable impact of their music, exploring why their debut album remains a top contender among the best of its time. Alongside Samer's all-time favorite track, "Narcolepsy," we weave tales from the band's history, spotlighting Stephen Jenkins as the constant force behind their evolving sound. Venture into the deeper, sometimes darker, corners of Third Eye Blind's discography with us as we shine a light on their second album, "Blue." With tracks like "Never Let You Go" and "Wounded," the band masterfully intertwines upbeat melodies with poignant themes of heartbreak and recovery. We explore how their innovative use of spoken word elements paved the way for future bands, such as Imagine Dragons, to tackle heavy topics while maintaining a captivating alt-rock vibe. The journey doesn't stop there. As we move through the band's later albums, from "Ursa Major" to "Dopamine," we witness their artistic growth and adaptability. The band's storytelling matures with each album, capturing deeper narratives and personal themes, like the rumored breakup with Charlize Theron in "Say It." From the ethereal vibes of "We Are Drugs" to the empowering sounds of "Screamer," featuring Alexis Krauss, Third Eye Blind shows us why they remain a relevant force in today's music scene. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1MHiQQ9ySBy9tykI4Uvs2m?si=4a726dc99adf4856https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/super-awesome-intro-to-third-eye-blind/pl.u-d2b0MoltLKN0YEA1.
