Superb melodic and symphonic progressive rock and our fun proggy quiz.
Episode 108 is all about a topic we've touched upon in a large number of Camerosity Podcast episodes, but after reviewing our show notes, we realized we had never covered thoroughly in a single show. Since you've probably already read the title of this post, I can't really hide that I'm talking about TLRs, or Twin Lens Reflexes for those of you who are acronym-adverse. Theo was absent for this one because he only likes cameras that involve 7 of something, but joining Anthony, Paul, Stephen and Mike are callers A.J. Gentile, Brian MacDomhnail, Chris Sherlock, Ethan, Joao Gomes, Howard Sandler, Jeremy Scott, Norris Liu, Robert Rotoloni, Sarah Davis, and Will Pinkham. We quickly get started with some TLR history and then introduce a couple of our first time callers. One such caller for the show was long time listener/first time caller, Sarah Davis who repairs cameras and specializes in TLRs. What Sarah lacks in gray hairs she more than makes up for in experience. Studying under some well respected camera technicians, Sarah has learned from the best and can now tear down most mechanical TLRs and Nikon film cameras, bringing them back up to life. We regularly hear of long time technicians retiring or passing away and it is refreshing to have a new option for your camera repair needs. As you should expect, we cover a tremendous amount of GAS including some of our favorite models medium format, 35mm, and subminiature TLRs. In the roughly hour and forty minutes runtime, we cover the gamut from some of the most popular Rollei and Yashica TLRs to some really wild and rare models like the Welta Superfekta, the Tessina 35, AGFA Flexilette, and we even take the opportunity to talk about our beloved Chuzhao (which isn't actually a TLR). Mike discusses the closest he'll ever come to shooting a Nikon TLR, why he hates the label "Pseudo TLR", and shares some trivia about interchangeable lens TLRs. If you were to assume that an entire episode about TLRs would attract everyone who loves shooting TLRs, you'd be mistaken as we hear from a couple callers who aren't fond of the design, especially the horizontally flipped viewfinder, and why it can be difficult to get perfectly straight horizons. In addition to TLRs, we cover topics that are TLR-adjacent such as some of the different designs of focusing screens, why Rick Oleson's screens are better, and some fascinating pros and cons to leaf shutters, including why most of them can't actually move any faster than 1/500th of a second. As always, the topics we discuss on the Camerosity Podcast are influenced by you! Please don't feel like you have to be an expert on a specific type of camera, or have the level of knowledge on par with other people on the show. We LOVE people who are into shooting or collecting cameras, no matter how long you've been doing it, so please don't consider your knowledge level to be a prerequisite for joining! The guys and I rarely know where each episode is going to go until it happens, so if you'd like to join us on a future episode, be sure to look out for our show announcements on our Camerosity Podcast Facebook page, the Camerosity Discord server, and right here on mikeeckman.com. We usually record every other Monday and announcements, along with the Zoom link are typically shared 2-3 days in advance. For our next episode, we will be revisiting Canon rangefinders (again). We tried to do this for Episode 108 but had to push it back due to a scheduling conflict, but we're giving it another go! The last time we spent a majority of an episode on these wonderful cameras was way back in Episode 18, so we thought it was time to invite some newer fans of the show to call in and share which models they love and whatever else they want to talk about! We will record Episode 109 on Monday, May 18th at 7pm Central Daylight Time, 8pm Eastern Daylight Time, and 6pm Canada Saskatchewan Time. For more time zones, please consult the World Time Buddy calculator and plug in your time. Make sure you set your calendars and look out for the show announcement at the usual locations and be prepared to join us! In This Episode Quick TLR History / The Original Rolleiflex Used 117 Film Original Rolleiflex compared to Rolleiflex T (photo) First-time caller Ethan has four TLRs, but confesses he doesn't like shooting them Stephen Strangways find he tilts not only film TLRs, but also the digital Chuzhao and Paul Rybolt figures it's due to shutter button placement Paul likes the Rolleicord and Rolleiflex, but hates identifying them. Xenons, Xenars, Planars, and Tessars, oh my! Sarah Davis fixes Yashica, Rollei, and Mamiya TLRs, as well as some Nikon and Canon SLRs Chris Sherlock of Retina Rescue has repaired some Tele Rolleiflexes: “try and take note of what I took apart, and put it back together so it works.” Sarah shares why the Yashica TLRs, after the Pigeonflex and Yashima Flex, are so durable Brian MacDomhnail took Mike's advice to pick up a Yashica-D to replace his Lomo Lubitel Mike finds the non-Mat TLRs are simpler and smoother, Sarah recommends the Yashica-Mat LM and EM Anthony Rue had a Rolleiflex 2.8E that he traded for a Leica M4-2, but kept his Yashica Mat 124, but shoots his Meopta Flexaret VI the most, Anthony also loves his Voigtländer Superb, and Mike has a theory as to why it's so different Zeiss Ikon Ikoflex “coffee can” Focusing screen brightness, Fresnel lenses, Rick Oleson Bright Screens, Martin Seelig's mirrors A.J. Gentile has tips on shooting with TLRs Howard Sandler thinks the Minolta Autocord and Ricoh Diacord have great ergonomics, Sarah has some repair insights into them, and Mike explains the Autocord's backwards film loading Leaf shutters vs. focal plane shutters, and the tricks used to get leaf shutters beyond 1/500th, as on the 1/800th Kodak Chevron and Tourist, the Graflex Super Speed Graphic's 1/1000th, and the Minolta V2 and V3 Are the Mamiya C-series cameras, TLRs with interchangeable lenses, huge and reliable, or just huge? The Koni-Omegaflex M is even bigger / Rex Reflex The reason for TLRs, and medium format film Going smaller: Agfa Flexilette, Bolsey Model C, Samocaflex 35, the Gakkenflex DIY kit Even smaller yet: Tessina 35, GemFlex, Goerz Minicord Is it a pseudo-TLR, or something else? Argus 75, Voigtländer Brillant, Lubitel, Kodak Duaflex, Bedfordflex, Windsorflex Paul's Rollei Magic Rant, and why it breaks Mike's brain João Gomes on the underappreciated Zeiss-Ikon Contaflex and Ikoflex III Norris Liu's funky Toyocaflex 35, Welta Superfekta and Perfekta Paul's 1937 Minoltaflex (photo he sent in FB group chat) Jeremy Scott brings up f/2.8 TLRs with his Rollei, and Mike has a Fujicaflex Anthony's Ansco Automatic Reflex 3.5 regret, Mike expands on the history of them, and Norris has a Rocca Super Reflex Will Pinkham opens a can of worms about viewing and taking lenses Stephen didn't think his Mamiya C330f was too huge, just too convoluted, and servicing simpler cameras to keep them working Wrapping it up with some one-off TLR models A surprise guest swoops in like a Seagull Links The Camerosity Podcast is now on Discord! The Dodgers offense was unable to get the job done once again for Shohei Ohtani, scoring just 1 run in a 2-1 loss in Houston. This is folk with a bit of a spiritual twist, there is a feeling of ritualistic celebration of nature throughout. They toss in some banjo, trumpet, violin, and I think that is didgeridoo as well. Hypnotic. The Spinning Wheel by Mediæval Bæbes favorite track November Mediæval Bæbes have released these 12 tracks in honour of the twelve months of the year. As usual, they bring lush and gorgeous intertwining vocals and plenty of exotic instrumentation (just far too many to list, so you'll have to trust me). Every track is a masterwork, but choosing November as being representative of the release. Basal Ardor by Tenk Van Dool / Paul Sears favorite track Katie and Natalie The second outing from this duo, with Paul Sears on drums and percussion, and Tenk Van Dool on guitars, bass, mandolin, keyboard, and various synths. There are some guest vocals, as well as guests on guitars, bass, flute, and woodwinds. Experimental progressive heavily laced with jazz, and they've spiked it with a bit of psych as well. All Tied Together by Ye Vagabonds favorite track The Flood Led by the Mac Gloinn brothers, they bring lovely acoustic folk, blending their original lyrics with a traditional Irish folk sound (imagine smoky pubs and busking on street corners). The harmonies are simply gorgeous, and always at center. But the stories and their presentation are what is so captivating about this release. Instruments include what you might expect (guitars, fiddle, accordions), plus a few surprises along the way, like some synthesizer here and there. Fuglefolk by Songleikr favorite track Elden Melder This Nordic folk act has waited 10 years since their first release to bring us this second one. They lean heavily into traditional sound with their original material. Recorded live in studio, with their captivating vocal harmonies, the core band, plus a few guest musicians, makes this feel like a pagan village celebration. Unplugged From The Moon by Kwoon favorite track Swan Kwoon is French post-rock band led by Sandy Lavallart, here presenting material in a stripped down, acoustic setting. The material is hauntingly melancholic and contemplative. There is some electric guitar, keyboards, strings, and a female harmony on one of the tunes. Stark and lovely. L'Antidote “L'Antidote” 2025 From France, this world class trio combines cello, piano, and percussion, which sounds simple, but it's decidedly complex. Their music is a rich tapestry of world, folk, jazz, and classical. Prepare to be mesmerized. Favourite Track: Desert Plant (6:31) Malandra by Ão favorite track Me Condena Belgian artists Ão combine electronica, art pop, saudade, and alt Latin music into a tantalizing mélange. Honey-voiced lead singer Brenda Corijn sings in Portuguese and English, with the band providing guitars, electronics, and percussion. Altogether, it's an irresistably heady mix. Eve (2026 remaster) by Karda Estra favorite track Andraiad Multi-instrumentalist and composer Richard Wileman has issued this remastered release, and it is well worth revisiting, or perhaps, discovering for the first time. Inspired by the 1886 gothic novel “The Future Eve,” Richard blends chamber and progressive music expertly, using both electric and acoustic instrumentation. He has a signature delicacy to all of his works, they differ greatly, yet you hear his ear and his hand in each of them. Dark Eyed Sailor by Olivia Chaney Olivia Chaney has released this single, due to it's inclusion in the new Wuthering Heights film. Production is spare, featuring her lovely voice accompanied by harmonium. Superb.

The ID.4 leads the tally with roughly 901,000 units sold globally, while the brand now looks ahead to four new affordable EVs including the ID. Polo, arriving in 2026.ŠKODA GIVES SUPERB HATCH A 200 KW PHEVŠkoda has unveiled a 200 kW plug-in hybrid for the Superb Hatch, pairing a 1.5 TSI petrol engine with an 85 kW electric motor and a 25.7 kWh battery — making it the most powerful combustion-engine model in Škoda's current lineup. The launch reflects growing demand: one in four Superb models now sells with a PHEV powertrain, and more than 68,000 Superb iV models have been delivered since 2019.CANADA OPENS CHINA-BUILT EV QUOTA AT 6.1% TARIFFCanada began accepting import permit applications from 1 March 2026, allowing up to 49,000 China-built EVs per year to enter at a 6.1% tariff — a sharp cut from the 106.1% rate imposed in 2024 — on a first-come, first-served basis. Tesla, Polestar, and Volvo are considered frontrunners to use the allocation, which Ottawa plans to scale to 70,000 vehicles annually by 2030, with 50% of that expanded quota reserved for EVs below a set price threshold.CUPRA SETS 5 MARCH BORN FACELIFT REVEALCupra will unveil the Born facelift on 5 March, bringing harder-edged front and rear styling that aligns the model visually with the newer Terramar and Tavascan, plus expected interior upgrades including more premium materials and a revised infotainment layout. The refresh matters commercially: the Born has sold nearly 30,000 units in the UK alone since its 2022 launch, and Cupra will also soon introduce the smaller Raval electric hatchback from approximately £23,000.RANGE ROVER VELAR EV SPOTTED ON WINTER TESTA Range Rover Velar EV prototype has been caught in European winter testing, revealing a dramatically reshaped body with a cab-forward stance, angular haunches, and a fastback-leaning roofline that breaks sharply from traditional boxy SUV design. Crucially, it will be the first Jaguar Land Rover model built on the new 800-volt Electric Modular Architecture (EMA) platform, which is engineered to deliver over 300 miles of range and faster charging capability.RIVIAN LAUNCHES RAD PERFORMANCE SUB-BRANDRivian has launched the Rivian Adventure Department (RAD), a dedicated performance sub-brand targeting harder and faster off-road driving that puts it in direct competition with Land Rover's Octa and Ford's Raptor line. RAD formalises the engineering team already responsible for the R1S and R1T Quad Motor variants, giving Rivian's performance ambitions an official identity and a public-facing platform.TESLA TELLS MODEL Y OWNERS TO CHARGE GENTLYTesla has updated the Model Y Owner's Manual to advise owners to rely on home Level 1 or Level 2 charging for daily use — keeping limits at 80% — and to reserve Superchargers for road trips, warning that frequent DC fast charging accelerates long-term battery degradation. For long-term storage, Tesla recommends parking at approximately 50% state of charge and flagging that features like Sentry Mode and Dog Mode can silently drain the battery at roughly 1% per day while the car sits idle.VOLVO PLOTS FASTER ZERO-EMISSION TRUCK PUSHVolvo Group is accelerating its battery-electric heavy truck strategy from a position of strength, holding a 19% share of the European heavy-truck market for the second consecutive year. Its flagship FH Aero Electric packs 780 kWh of batteries for up to 600 km of range and supports megawatt charging that takes the pack from 20% to 80% in just 45 minutes — aligning recharge stops with mandatory driver rest breaks.LYTEN TAKES OVER NORTHVOLT'S SWEDISH BATTERY ASSETSLyten has completed its acquisition of Northvolt's Swedish operations — covering Northvolt Ett, Ett Expansion, and Northvolt Labs — in a deal encompassing nearly $5 billion in book value, 16 GWh of manufacturing capacity, and Europe's largest battery R&D centre. The company plans to restart lithium-ion NMC cell production at the Skellefteå site in the second half of 2026, and will use Northvolt Labs in Västerås to advance its proprietary lithium-sulfur battery technology.BRIM EXPLORER ORDERS TWO ELECTRIC TRIMARANSOslo-based Brim Explorer has signed contracts for two fully electric trimarans — each 24 metres long, carrying 180 passengers — which the firm claims will be the world's most efficient battery-powered vessels upon their spring 2027 delivery. The boats will operate silent, emission-free sightseeing cruises along Norway's coast with a battery-only range of 100 nautical miles at speeds up to 20 knots, expanding Brim's existing five-vessel fleet.

4 years later and James Cameron is back with another headspinning installment of having us enter back into his worl of Pandora. Yes today's SPOILER REVIEW episode of "Sound Speed Action" is covering the mega-movie event of 2025 that was "Avatar: Fire and Ash". That of course means returning to the podcast after our review of "Avatar: Way of Water" 3 years ago is our good friend, Mr. Jonathan Olivo. We cover a lot of ground but I think we can definitely say this: WHAT. A. RIDE. Cameron does it again. Certain the visual effects alone are worth the price of movie theater admission alone but seriously this franchise and Fire and Ash bring a lot to it to make them special: The cast with Zoe Saldana (is she the biggest star ever?), Sam Worthing (wasnt crazy about him at first but by this installment he really owns and brought a lot of depth to this Fire and Ash). Stephen Lang and Sigourney Weaver - absolutely impressive with playing any role where there is literally any age. Superb. Oona Chaplan as Varang is a bit over the top but she also own it and goes full ham with her villain character Varang in a way that makes the character fun, complex, definitely interesting. Does it feel like a little bit of re-tread of the 2nd episode? We have some differing thoughts on that. Jack Champion is back as Spider in this movie. His role definitely has more weight here which opens up some doors for some fun directions that the Avatar world could go in? Only gripe with him is that the dialogue is a little paper thin. That said it doesnt take away from this thrill that at over 3 hours should feel long but flies so quickly with bringing all the thrills. Don't miss this one."Avatar: Fire and Ash" is playing in theaters. ABSOLUTELY THAT NEEDS TO BE EXPERIENCED ON THE BIG SCREEN! Enjoy. Also if you are enjoying the podcast, please drop us a review on whichever platform you get your podcasts. It helps the show a lot. Thanks.

SEASON 4 EPISODE 54: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (2:30) SPECIAL COMMENT: At this moment, the biggest threat to the future of democracy at this minute is Chuck Schumer. He and the other members of the milquetoast caucus of Senate Democrats are ready to give away their chance to turn MAGA's panic over the ICE murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti (and Keith Porter Jr) into a forced re-structure of the entire damnable structure. Instead of demanding a new organization with bipartisan control and a blanket ban on any activity near polling places or in fact in the week before an election, Schumer is willing to sell that for four trivial concessions. He's willing to forfeit the last chance to get these death squads off our streets in exchange for a "uniform code of conduct," the end of "roving patrols," the discontinuation of masks, and the use of body cameras. Because obviously the threat that ICE's next slaughter of an innocent bystander will be captured on video completely kept these Trump Death Squads from killing Alex Pretti. It's beyond Schumer's usual naiveté. It's criminally negligent. He shouldn't just be ousted as Minority Leader, he should be expelled from the Senate. Trump blames Bovino. Bovino blames Noem. Noem blames Miller. Miller blames Border Patrol. Roger Stone blames Lewandowski. Trump blames the 2nd Amendment. They're imploding, Chuck. Get out of their way, you moron. ROBERT FICO: Slovakia’s pro-Trump prime minister who last year spoke at CPAC (it's pronounced Fitso) was quoted by five Politico sources as having been shaken after a meeting with Trump on the 17th, alarmed by Trump's "psychological state" and convinced Trump was "out of his mind." Denials all around. (33:00) BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN: If you didn't know, Saturday he wrote an ICE protest song. Uploaded it to social media yesterday. Calls 'em all out by name, including "King Trump." Chills. With Bruce's kind permission, we're playing it in the podcast. Superb stuff. I wish Bruce were Senate minority leader. B-Block (40:00) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: A News Nation moron reduces the death of Alex Pretti to a "scrum." Melania doesn't know her icons from her iconoclasts. And Katie Miller insists all Conservative women are far more attractive than all Liberal women. You have to give her credit: who knew she had gotten this far with such devastatingly impaired vision? C-Block (50:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Just past the anniversary, now 45 years, since a famed New York morning disc jockey responded to something I said on the air one hour by threatening to kill me, and then responded to something I said on the air the next hour by trying to hire me full-time on his station. The Ted Brown Saga - revisited. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
