The training room is changing, and it's not going back. In this episode, I sat down with Phil Friedman, the founder and CEO of CGS Inc., to explore how AI, avatars, and immersive simulations are rewriting the playbook on workplace training. With over four decades at the helm of CGS—a company he built from scratch after immigrating to the US—Phil brings a perspective shaped by both technological evolution and global business experience. The heart of our conversation centered on Cicero, CGS's AI-driven platform that blends artificial intelligence with extended reality to create dynamic, real-time role-play simulations. Far from just another e-learning tool, Cicero tackles one of the biggest blind spots in workforce development today: soft skills. From objection handling in medical device sales to flight attendant training and fast-food onboarding, the platform is being used to scale training faster, cheaper, and more effectively than traditional classroom or online methods ever could. What really stood out was how Phil views this as a moment of acceleration rather than disruption. AI isn't here to replace human trainers or eliminate roles; it's a tool that can deepen learning and speed up how people acquire both interpersonal and job-specific skills. In a world where young workers are more comfortable with gaming engines than whiteboards, the immersive, responsive nature of AI-powered simulations offers a natural fit. Phil shared compelling stories from industries like healthcare, aviation, and fast food, where training time has been slashed from months to days. But more than the metrics, it's the idea that training can now adapt in real time, simulate unpredictable human behavior, and offer meaningful feedback immediately that points to where we're headed next. As AI and XR technologies converge, what will it mean when every employee can have a personalized, just-in-time coach at their fingertips?

Dr. Ronald (James) Cotton who is an electrical engineer, neuroscientist, and physiatrist working as a physician scientist at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab, and assistant professor in the Northwestern University Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. PART 1 All of us probably believe and understand that how someone moves and walks is hugely informative. People are exuding all this information about their health status, but we don't measure it and obviously a core treatment of rehabilitation is how people move. We don't actually routinely measure that and the reason is that we need better, more clinically accessible tools to measure the clinically meaningful things about movement and then use those to guide our treatment programs. We've never really had the tools. So, I'm going to discuss a plurality of methods we've been developing in my lab, including tools that use multi-view video, monocular video from a smartphone, for example, as well as sensor technology and then how we're trying to extract clinically meaningful metrics from these methods. A challenge we've been addressing in the lab is that the tools developed by the AI community don't necessarily solve the problems that we need or produce clinically relevant outputs. It's really important to have confidence intervals on what you measure. If we're going to use anything for decision making, we have to know we can trust it. A problem with a lot of computer vision algorithms is they don't provide anything like confidence intervals. Even if they pretend to, they're often uncalibrated and unreliable.

Hey Strangers, #Ai #school #america ust two years ago, Lorraine He, now a 24-year-old law student, was told to avoid using AI for her assignments. At the time, to get around a national block on ChatGPT, students had to buy a mirror-site version from a secondhand marketplace. Its use was common, but it was at best tolerated and more often frowned upon. Now, her professors no longer warn students against using AI. Instead, they're encouraged to use it—as long as they follow best practices. She is far from alone. Just like those in the West, Chinese universities are going through a quiet revolution. According to a recent survey by the Mycos Institute, a Chinese higher-education research group, the use of generative AI on campus has become nearly universal. Thoras AI is pioneering a new category in infrastructure optimization, transforming how engineering teams manage workload efficiency through predictive scaling. Co-founded by twin sisters Nilo and her sibling who worked as reliability engineers for a decade, Thoras AI addresses the reactive nature of traditional infrastructure management. In this episode of Category Visionaries, we sat down with Nilo Rahmani, CEO and Co-Founder of Thoras AI, to learn about their journey from frustrated on-call engineers to building an AI-powered platform that helps reliability teams optimize performance while maintaining application integrity. Topics Discussed: The unique dynamic of co-founding a company with your twin sister Thoras AI's approach to predictive scaling as a wedge into broader infrastructure automation The company's differentiation from pure finops/cost optimization tools by prioritizing reliability Building a premium brand identity that stands out in the crowded AI infrastructure space The evolution from customer discovery to product-market fit through organic outreach Creating a new category at the intersection of AI and infrastructure optimization GTM Lessons For B2B Founders: Stop coding and start talking to customers first: Nilo's biggest breakthrough came when a Bay Area advisor told her to "stop coding and start talking." Instead of building an MVP in isolation, they spent months conducting customer discovery across the country. This approach revealed genuine pain points and validated demand before writing a single line of code. B2B founders should resist the engineer's instinct to build first and instead invest heavily in understanding customer problems through direct conversation. Validate demand through organic outreach, not friends and family: Thoras AI deliberately avoided selling to their network, choosing instead to validate their solution with complete strangers. Every customer has come through pure organic outreach, providing genuine validation that people truly need the solution rather than doing founders a favor. This approach builds confidence that the product solves real problems and creates a stronger foundation for scaling. Focus on reliability first, cost savings second: While many competitors position themselves as cost optimization tools, Thoras AI differentiated by prioritizing application reliability and integrity. As Nilo explains, "For the reliability engineer, any attention on us because of an outage is bad attention." This positioning resonates with their target buyers who view uptime as more critical than cost savings, creating a sustainable competitive advantage. Use premium branding to elevate your industry: Thoras AI intentionally created a consumer-grade brand aesthetic to stand out in the sea of generic B2B tools. Their approach makes reliability professionals "feel like they're elevating not only their role, but their entire team" by using a brand that understands their pain points without marketing fluff. B2B founders should consider how premium branding can differentiate their solution and make customers proud to use it. Build category definition around customer problems, not technology: Rather than leading with AI capabilities, Thoras AI positions itself around the specific problems reliability engineers face - automation, efficiency, and reducing manual fine-tuning. They're creating a category for "optimization and efficiency" rather than forcing their solution into existing categories like finops or observability. Founders should let customer problems define their category rather than starting with technology capabilities.   //   Sponsors: Front Lines — We help B2B tech companies launch, manage, and grow podcasts that drive demand, awareness, and thought leadership. www.FrontLines.io The Global Talent Co. — We help tech startups find, vet, hire, pay, and retain amazing marketing talent that costs 50-70% less than the US & Europe.  www.GlobalTalent.co   //   Don't Miss: New Podcast Series — How I Hire Senior GTM leaders share the tactical hiring frameworks they use to build winning revenue teams. What's Next in AI, Self-Service, and Customer Service?  Shep interviews Jay Patel, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cisco's Webex Customer Experience Solutions. He talks about how AI and innovative technologies are transforming contact centers to improve both customer and employee experiences.  This episode of Amazing Business Radio with Shep Hyken answers the following questions and more:    How is AI transforming the customer service experience?  How is AI improving self-service options for businesses?  Will AI ever fully replace human customer service agents?  How can AI help reduce burnout and attrition rates among contact center agents?  What risks should companies watch out for as they adopt AI in customer service?   Top Takeaways:    Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the way companies and customers interact. With advancements such as smarter self-service options and AI-powered voice agents, companies can now resolve customer issues more quickly and intuitively. This leads to a more seamless and satisfying experience for both customers and customer service agents.  Many customers still prefer to call customer service, despite companies offering self-service options. In this year's Customer Service & CX Research, we found that 68% of customers still prefer to talk to a live customer service agent. Some self-service options may not always be as effective as companies and customers want them to be. However, self-service is expected to improve as AI becomes more intuitive and capable of handling more complex problems. When it is easier to use and more effective in resolving issues, customers may grow to trust and utilize self-service more frequently. While self-service tools continue to improve, many customers will still prefer to speak with a representative, especially for complex or emotionally charged issues. AI-powered voice agents are set to become more advanced, handling conversations "just like humans," allowing customers to get resolutions without waiting for a human agent to become available.  Customer expectations are higher than ever. They expect immediate answers and help when they reach out to a company. Companies must keep pace with this demand by ensuring they offer customer care options that are quick, reliable, and easy to use.   AI just doesn't help customers. It also helps employees by making their jobs easier and more fulfilling. For example, AI is used to provide agents with call history, so customers don't need to repeat themselves, and it can give agents the information they need to solve the customer's problems efficiently.  As companies use more AI tools, keeping their data safe and secure is more important than ever. Strong security policies and data protection help build trust, allowing customers to feel more comfortable using digital services.  Jay Patel shares information about Cisco's WebexOne 2025 in San Diego, California, from September 28 to October 1, 2025. This event will highlight real-world customer successes and the latest innovations in AI-driven customer experience technology.  Plus, Shep and Jay discuss the future risks and responsibilities that come with rapidly adopting AI in customer service. Tune in!  Quote:   "We've been speaking  a lot longer than we've been typing, and I think the most profound technology change we'll see soon is that machines will be able to understand us through voice."  About:    Jay Patel is the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cisco's Webex Customer Experience Solutions business, responsible for product development, engineering, operations, and go-to-market.    Shep Hyken is a customer service and experience expert, New York Times bestselling author, award-winning keynote speaker, and host of Amazing Business Radio. Kerel Cooper, Chief Marketing Officer at GumGum, joins the podcast to explain how contextual targeting has evolved from basic URL-based approaches to sophisticated AI-powered systems that understand content at a deeper level. With over 20 years of digital media experience, Cooper provides valuable insights into how GumGum's contextual-first digital advertising platform helps brands deliver relevant messages without relying on personal data. The Evolution of Contextual AdvertisingContextual advertising has transformed dramatically since its early days. "Originally, contextual advertising was all about targeting based on the URL, maybe doing some targeting based on keywords," explains Cooper. "If you were at domain.com/autos, we were targeting you in the auto section and you became an auto intender." Today's contextual advertising is far more sophisticated, using AI to analyze entire pages of text, audio files, and videos frame-by-frame to understand content in its proper context and determine consumer mindset.Beyond Basic Domain TargetingModern contextual advertising goes beyond simply matching ads to domain categories. GumGum's technology can analyze the emotional state of users based on the content they're consuming and make intelligent assumptions about their interests. For example, a recent case study with Mars pet care products demonstrated how contextual targeting could expand reach beyond obvious pet-related content. By using GumGum's "Mindset Graph," Mars discovered that their target audiences (heavy dog food buyers, new puppy parents) also consumed content in categories like home and garden, food and drink, and travel – resulting in an 89% higher view-through rate compared to their standard targeting approaches. The AI Advantage in Contextual TargetingAI is at the heart of modern contextual advertising's effectiveness. GumGum's technology uses artificial intelligence to understand the entire content of articles, audio files, and videos, then determines the likely mindset of consumers engaging with that content. This allows for delivering not just the right brand message, but delivering it when consumers are in the optimal mindset to engage with it. As Cooper notes, "You can deliver ads anywhere, you can buy impressions anywhere, but that doesn't mean that they're meaningful."The Right Person, Right Place, Right TimeThe key to effective contextual advertising is understanding when consumers are in the right mindset to receive your message. While no targeting method is perfect, GumGum's technology optimizes throughout campaigns to improve performance. The system can even adapt to real-time events and emotional states – for example, delivering different messages to fans of wi ing versus losing sports teams during a championship game, with perhaps "champagne ads for the wi ers and whiskey ads for the losers."Why Marketers Are Embracing Contextual AdvertisingWith 72% of marketers now using contextual advertising, it's clear this approach is gaining momentum. This growth stems from several factors: increasing privacy regulations limiting cookie-based targeting, marketers seeking to build emotional co ections with consumers, and the improved effectiveness of AI-powered contextual solutions. Cooper advises that regardless of economic uncertainty, "the worst thing that you could do is kill off budgets, pull back from marketing." Instead, marketers should leverage tools like contextual advertising that can reach consumers more efficiently and effectively.ConclusionAs third-party cookies fade away and privacy concerns mount, contextual advertising offers marketers a powerful alternative that doesn't rely on personal data. The evolution from simple domain targeting to sophisticated AI-powered content analysis has transformed contextual advertising into a highly effective approach for reaching consumers in the right mindset. By understanding not just what content people are consuming but the context and emotional state in which they're consuming it, marketers can deliver more meaningful, relevant messages that resonate with their audience and drive better results.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

With over a decade of hands-on experience integrating and programming systems from Fanuc, KUKA, and others, Pawel shares exclusive insights on some of the biggest changes reshaping robotics in 2025. These changes are not just cosmetic updates; they are being driven by new ISO standards and increasing cybersecurity requirements across industrial automation. We explore the hardware and software changes coming to Fanuc's R-50iA cabinet, including multiple Ethernet ports, enhanced vision systems with built-in lighting, and a groundbreaking integration of Python for native robot programming. KUKA is also undergoing a major transformation with its KC5 slim cabinet and KUKA iiQ OS, a Linux-based control system with new UI, simulation environments, and plug-and-play capabilities. These updates signify a paradigm shift where robots become not only smarter and safer, but far easier to configure, maintain, and upgrade. The conversation expands into one of the most talked-about frontiers in robotics: humanoid robots. Are they just hype or do they have a real role to play in industrial environments? We assess the business case for humanoids, especially in facilities where traditional automation has been financially unjustifiable. From handling tasks like herb sorting in food production to stepping into high-risk environments, humanoids may soon bridge the automation gap in low-throughput, labor-intensive workflows. We also explore how AI is influencing robot deployment, from edge vision systems to cycle time optimization. Pawel outlines how drag-and-drop AI-powered tools are slashing development time for vision systems from hours to minutes, while also lowering the barrier to entry for those without years of machine vision experience. Vision systems that used to require complex calibration and scripting are now being trained on real-time images or CAD models, making robotic integration faster and more accessible than ever. Finally, we close with actionable startup ideas and a bold look into the future of collaborative robots, AI, and hybrid ecosystems of humanoids and industrial arms working side-by-side. If you're in automation, manufacturing, or considering a robotics venture, this episode is packed with strategic insight, technical knowledge, and forward-thinking ideas you won't want to miss.

Omar Abuhashish of Reform talks about scaling without increasing operational overheads; why AI isn't just a tool; & redefining what's possible in supply chain.  IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS:   [04.23] Omar's background and his journey of discovery in supply chain. “I'm a builder at heart, and I love solving very challenging problems. I went to school and studied the hardware AND the software to see what's possible and what solutions I can build.” “I really wanted to go after a foundational industry with a lot of room for improvement, but at the forefront of innovation, where there's room for opportunity and challenges that can be solved with the best technologies.” [07.28] The big challenges Omar saw as he became increasingly interested in global transportation networks, and how they led him to establish Reform. “I really noticed how operationally intensive a lot of the workflows are. There a lot of people doing the same job, the data is siloed, things are living on paper… I just felt there was a clear way to improve all of this.” [11.21] An overview of Reform – who they are, what they do, and how they help their customers. [14.29] The ideal client for Reform, and why they're putting a focus on duty drawback providers, having helped one provider reduce process time on a project from 450 hours to 40 minutes. [19.13] Reform's vision for AI in supply chain, why it isn't just a tool to help businesses reach a goal, and how it's going to transform how both businesses and the industry operate in the coming years. “Customers deserve much quicker turnaround times, companies deserve higher margins, higher revenues per employee, and employees actually doing what they're best at.” [23.34] How Reform's AI-first platform can help customers automate up to 90% of their manual freight operations. “Manual flows, looking at a stack of paper, sifting through them, entering data – that's the first step. The second step is actually synthesizing the data and doing some manipulation and reasoning, before it's placed in the system. The third is to start taking action.” [28.00] Some of the key features within Reform's workflow automation platform, what teams can do with it, and the different sets of teams that can use the platform. “One of the biggest challenges outside of the manual work is that, even when the work is done, there's still no visibility, both internally and to the customer. It's super important to actually make sense of that data.” [30.09] How Reform can help customers navigate complexity in the midst of disruption and manage exceptions. [33.34] The impact Reform can have at a business level and, with its mission to transform how freight moves, the impact it will also have on the industry. [36.02] A case study detailing how Reform helped a mid-size freight forwarder automate manual processes, saving approximately 1500 hours per month, optimizing processes, and allowing them to scale without adding more headcount. [40.25] Reform's special offer for Let's Talk Supply Chain customers.   RESOURCES AND LINKS MENTIONED:   Head over to Reform's website to find out more and discover how they could help you too.
