The McKinley High students say a heartbreaking goodbye to Finn Hudson.Behind the scenes, the cast and crew were grieving the death of Cory Monteith … on-screen, they had to get into character and grieve for everyone's favorite quarterback, Finn. Jenna and Kevin share how tough it was to shoot this episode, revealing it sometimes felt like an intrusion into a private experience, having to disassociate to get through filming, the scenes that had the cast running out of the room in tears, and having the option to bow out of the episode, but why they chose to do it. Cory left such an indelible mark on those he met, so Kevin and Jenna are honoring his memory by sharing some of their fondest recollections and moments and revisiting their favorite Cory stories told by some of their podcast guests.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This week on Glee on the Rocks we're talking S5E3, "The Quarterback." When a television show intersects with real-life tragedy, the aftermath can be a delicate dance between the narrative and respect. "The Quarterback" serves as Glee's heartfelt tribute to Cory Monteith and his beloved character, Finn Hudson. As we navigate through the episode, we discuss how Glee chose to honor Cory and Finn's memory on screen, because these songs are not just performances; they're eulogies, farewells, and love letters. We also look at the decisions made by the writers. Was it too soon to return to production? How do you craft a narrative around such a profound absence? And how do you move forward without forgetting? Join us to remember and celebrate our Quarterback. Subscribers to Fandom on the Rocks will gain access to our bonus mini (and not so mini!) episodes, where we dive deeper into the behind the scenes of Glee, our days in the original fandom, and our other fandom interests. Don't stop believin'! This week, V and Emily go back to a very different world. A pre-Glee world. And it kind of isn't pretty. While V loved Glee at first, its legacy is... not super chill and great? Outside of a few key ships that will get their own episodes later on this year and/or early next year? So this episode is about Glee as a whole, which... listen. The songs slapped. They did. However. There are so many "howevers." Also, V had a life-paradigm-shifting experience on YouTube vis-a-vis show choir while researching this episode, so there's that. Also, you may be looking at this episode thinking, "Last week, you said the next episode would be about May the 4th." Since we are WELL past that week in fandom history, we're instead jumping ahead to get back on schedule and will be releasing the May the 4th Holiday Special on Patreon for all donors. Olive and Eliza recap and review the fifth episode of season 4: The Role You Were Born to Play! Finn Hudson is back at McKinley and off to a rocky (horror) start as he gets pulled into directing their production of Grease - with a love triangle already brewing for the new kids! Blake Jenner makes his debut after winning the Glee Project, with the most milk-toast character since Powered Toast Man. Episode contains no known trigger warnings. Olive and Eliza recap and review episode seven of season three, I Kissed a Girl! The New Direction join together to support Santana through being publicly outed (totally not Finn Hudson's fault...) and sing girl power "lady music" to help her through it. We're not quite sure what "lady music" means, we've been given Jolene on a silver platter and are very happy about it nonetheless. Will Schuester is weirdly absent from glee club, but we won't look a gift horse in the mouth! Episode contains heavy discussion of student/teacher relationships and coming out stories. This is 4x16, "Feud." Close your eyes. Take it back to the early 2000s. The time of the great music feuds. *Nsync vs. BSB. Britney vs. Christina. Madonna vs. Elton John?? We guess this was a feud. And now, Finn Hudson vs. Will Schuester. Tensions are still raging between Finn and Mr. Schue, so The New Directions force them into a lesson about famous music feuds in order to sing out their feelings. Sue tries to bring Blaine back to the Cheerios, while Jake and Marley's relationship hit the rocks. Over in New York, Santana uncovers Brody's side job. Our wonderful sound engineer is Adriana. Eliza and Olive recap and review the eighth episode of season one; Mash Up! A terribly named episode, but one that contains some of the most covers of the season and further reassurance of how much we hate Noah Puckerman. On this installment of ATA Special Edition, Andy Behbakht and Woo S. Kim get together to discuss the sad memorial episode of Glee that pays tribute to the late Cory Monteith and his character Finn Hudson. As the trailers said: the hardest word to say is "goodbye". As you may hear in the episode, it was a difficult episode for the hosts to record so please be patient. Despite that it has been four months since his death, our thoughts are with friends and family of Cory Monteith - a wonderful man who was taken away from us too early.
With John Wilson. Following in the footsteps of Homer's Odyssey, Morrissey's Autobiography has been published as a Penguin Classic. The singer takes readers through his childhood in Manchester, The Smiths' success and subsequent court battles, insights into personal relationships - and unexpected stories, including an invitation to appear in Friends. Philip Hoare, a winner of The Samuel Johnson Prize for non-fiction, reviews. Director Clio Barnard, who won acclaim for The Arbor, her portrait of the Bradford writer Andrea Dunbar, talks to John about her new film The Selfish Giant, loosely based on a story by Oscar Wilde, which now focuses on two boys lured into the world of scrap metal. Nelson, Navy, Nation is a new permanent gallery at the National Maritime Museum. Opening on Trafalgar Day (21 October) it looks at how the Royal Navy shaped individual lives and the course of British history in the 18th century - a period when sea-faring heroes were national celebrities. Naval historian Dr Sam Willis reviews. Tonight's edition of Glee is a tribute to actor Cory Monteith, who died earlier this year and who played the central role of Finn Hudson in the series. Boyd Hilton, TV editor of Heat magazine, discusses how programme-makers deal with unexpected tragedies or cast-absences in long running series. Producer Rebecca Nicholson.
Oh,Glee. Why do you make it so hard sometimes? That's what Erica and Emily wonder in this week's episode, where the ladies discuss The Role You Were Born To Play while fighting off cat attacks, viewing frustration, and the fact that Finn Hudson should just not be allowed to speak ever. Also on the agenda is a quick detailing of a few other shows we watch, a few asides about feline narcotics, and a very important lesson about why you should never karoake to Foreigner. Agree or disagree in our Facebook group page or email us at gleekast@gmail.com. Hopefully by then, we'll be in better moods.

It's never easy to accept when an amazing actor on one of your favorite TV shows passes away - last Saturday night (July 13, 2013) it was reported that 31-year old actor Cory Monteith (who portrayed Finn Hudson on FOX's musical show Glee) was sadly found dead in a hotel room in Vancouver. On this episode of ATA Special Edition, Andy Behbakht and Woo S. Kim joins to discuss some of Monteith's most memorable performances, his best songs, the most inspiring aspects about his character and much more as they pay tribute to a young strong actor that was sadly taken from us too early. Our thoughts goes out to Monteith's family, friends/co-stars, (including real life and TV girlfriend Lea Michelle who portrays Rachel Berry), everyone who works within the Glee production, Ryan Murphy & the creative team for their loss - R.I.P. Cory Monteith; a fantastic actor with a big heart (both on-and-off screen) who will be deeply missed.
