Following Jesus often sounds inspiring—until we come across a teaching that feels costly. If God is truly good, if He is for us, and if He can be trusted, then His invitations aren't leading us away from life—they're leading us into it. Sometimes the hardest teachings of Jesus begin to make more sense when we view them through the lens of God's character rather than our fears.Because trusting God means believing that what He asks of us is ultimately for our good, even when we don't fully understand it.
Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour
The Bet Yosef (commentary to the Tur by Maran Rav Yosef Karo, author of the Shulhan Aruch) cites Rav Yishak Abuhab (Spain, 1433-1493) as stating that when one recites the list of the eleven spices of Ketoret, he must do so carefully, from a written text, in order to ensure not to mistakenly omit any of the spices. As we say in the section from the Gemara recited in the Ketoret section, "Im Hisar Ahat Mi'kol Samaneha Hayab Mita" – leaving out even one of the eleven ingredients of the Ketoret constitutes a capital offense, punishable by death. Since we read the Ketoret section in lieu of the offering of the Ketoret in the Bet Ha'mikdash, one who mistakenly skips one of the ingredients would be in violation of this capital offense. The Bet Yosef speculates that this might be the reason why Ashkenazic communities do not recite the Ketoret section on weekday mornings – due to the concern that one might recite this section quickly, given the pressures of the workweek, and mistakenly omit one of the spices. Indeed, the Rama (Rav Moshe Isserles, Poland, 1530-1572) explains on this basis the Ashkenazic custom not to recite the Ketoret on weekdays. The Bet Yosef comments that if the Ashkenazim received a tradition to omit the Ketoret on weekdays, then he certainly will not argue with their tradition, but if this is done only due to the fear of skipping one of the spices, then this practice is not acceptable. He explains that when the Gemara speaks of the death penalty as the punishment for leaving out one of the spices of the Ketoret, this refers to the Kohen Gadol offering a deficient incense on Yom Kippur. The only time it was ever permissible to enter the Kodesh Ha'kodashim – the inner sanctum of the Bet Ha'mikdash – was when the Kohen Gadol went there to perform the special Yom Kippur service, and this required the offering of Ketoret. If the Ketoret was deficient and thus invalid, then the Kohen Gadol would be in violation of a capital offense when he entered the Kodesh Ha'kodashim on Yom Kippur. It goes without saying that this has no relevance at all to somebody who mistakenly omits one of the spices when reciting the section of the Ketoret and listing its ingredients. A different view is held by the Rambam, who maintained that a Kohen incurs the death penalty for offering a deficient Ketoret even on ordinary weekdays, and not only on Yom Kippur. However, even according to the Rambam, the punishment is incurred not for bringing a deficient Ketoret, but rather for entering the Bet Ha'mikdash for naught, since the offering brought was not valid. Clearly, this does not apply to one who mistakenly skips one of the spices while reciting the Ketoret. Moreover, even if one insists that offering a deficient Ketoret itself constitutes a capital offense, there is no basis for extending this to a person who omits one of the spices during the recitation of this section. Therefore, while of course one should always try to ensure to recite all the words of the entire prayer service properly, there is no reason to be especially "scared" when listing the ingredients of the Ketoret.
Mamdani skipped the Israeli Day Parade and Ami is relieved. He breaks down the thought experiment that ends every Israel debate, calls out Megan Kelly, and welcomes Judge Roy Altman.Mamdani became the first NYC mayor in history to skip the Israeli Day Parade. Ami's take is the opposite of what you'd expect: he's glad. He decodes Mamdani's calculated anti-Zionist language, walks through the thought experiment that ends every Israel debate, and fires at Megan Kelly for comparing her Israel shift to discovering she had cancer while calling out Candace Owens' Russia trip for what it really was. Then federal Judge Roy K. Altman joins the show. He's the author of the New York Times bestseller Israel on Trial and a former sexual violence prosecutor. Using his three-bucket courtroom evidence framework, he exposes the Nicholas Kristoff NYT hit piece on Israeli prison abuse — and explains why the NYT killed a Hamas rape report the day before it ran that piece. Israel scores three. The New York Times scores zero.Support the show: patreon.com/AmisHouse
You know those passages we highlight, memorize, and come back to again and again. And then there are the ones we skip. The verses that confuse us, make us uncomfortable, or seem impossible to reconcile with the God we know. When we come across a verse that doesn't seem to fit, it's important to remember what we already know to be true about God: He is good. Sometimes understanding a difficult passage begins not with having all the answers, but with holding firmly to that truth as we continue asking questions and seeking understanding.

If your HRT is not working the way you expected, it does not always mean the hormones are the problem. Often, the real issue is that your body is missing key foundations needed to process and respond to those hormones effectively. In this episode, I break down the three biggest areas I look at first: your liver detox pathways, your gut and estrobolome health, and your blood sugar and cortisol regulation. I explain why some women start HRT and feel worse, with symptoms like increased hot flashes, night sweats, bloating, mood swings, and breast tenderness. In many cases, this happens because the body is not clearing estrogen properly, causing it to recirculate instead of leaving the system. I also walk through the three Ps of hormones which are production, processing, and pathways. If even one of these is off, your results can suffer no matter what protocol or supplement you are using. We also talk about how gut inflammation, histamine responses, and insulin resistance can block your body's ability to respond to hormones at the cellular level. If this sounds familiar, download my Hormone Cascade Map to better understand what may be happening in your body: https://dr-beth-westie.mykajabi.com/hormone-cascade-map And if you are ready for personalized guidance, book a strategy call with my team. EPCOT's Canada Pavilion often feels like a space guests walk through rather than stay in. This week, Stephen reimagines it as a living cultural district inspired by Toronto's Kensington Market, where layered storytelling, music, and guest interaction turn the upper level of the pavilion into a constantly evolving environment. At the center of it all is a touring 4★Town concert experience that weaves through the pavilion and encourages exploration, culminating in a reworked theater and character moment that feels like part of the world rather than a separate show. The goal is simple: make Canada feel alive, repeatable, and worth returning to throughout the day.Plus, for the first time ever, we're featuring a listener-submitted Imagineering pitch from our new friend Cam Sullivan as he shares his concept for a new Mandalorian addition to Galaxy's Edge. What if I told you that one single blog post could fuel your email newsletter, your Pinterest pins, your Instagram, your Facebook, your LinkedIn, AND your Google Business Profile update for the entire week? That is exactly what I'm breaking down in this episode of the Systems and Workflow Magic Podcast, and yes, you can watch the full training on YouTube or listen right here. Most family photographers I talk to are either spending way too many hours creating content from scratch for every platform, or they're frozen because the overwhelm won the battle that week. If you have ADHD and struggle with bulimia or binge eating, it may not be about willpower at all. It may be about dopamine, impulsivity, and a nervous system that has been trying to regulate itself the only way it knows how. In this episode of the podcast, I sit down with psychiatric nurse practitioner Kirsten Book to unpack the often-missed connection between ADHD and eating disorders. We move beyond surface-level explanations and into what is actually happening in the brain, including how dopamine dysregulation, executive functioning challenges, and emotional intensity can drive patterns of bingeing, restricting, and purging. ADHD and Bulimia: The Dopamine Connection Kirsten shares her lived experience of recovering from bulimia and being diagnosed with ADHD later in life. She describes how starting ADHD treatment shifted everything. Instead of feeling constantly out of control, she experienced something many people with ADHD and eating disorders rarely feel, which is a pause. A moment to decide what to do next. That shift in impulsivity and regulation can be a turning point in recovery. We break down how ADHD affects dopamine regulation and why the brain begins to seek out stimulation through food. Binge eating, restriction, and purging can all increase dopamine in the short term, which reinforces these patterns even when they create long-term distress. Why ADHD Gets Missed in Eating Disorders Many people, especially girls and women, are never screened for ADHD. Instead, they are diagnosed with anxiety or depression. This episode explores how untreated ADHD can show up as emotional dysregulation, difficulty focusing, chaotic eating patterns, and a constant sense of being overwhelmed. Kirsten explains why comprehensive screening matters and how identifying ADHD can completely change the direction of treatment. When ADHD is addressed directly, many people experience a reduction in binge eating urges and a greater sense of stability with food. Executive Function, Impulsivity, and Eating Patterns ADHD affects the brain's executive functioning, including planning, organization, and follow-through. This makes consistent eating much harder than it looks from the outside. Skipped meals, irregular eating, and impulsive food choices are not random. They are connected to how the brain manages energy, attention, and motivation. We also talk about interoception and why people with ADHD may feel disconnected from hunger and fullness cues. This disconnection can lead to both undereating and overeating, creating cycles that feel confusing and hard to interrupt. The Role of Dopamine in Binge Eating and Restriction This episode offers a clear explanation of how different eating disorder behaviors interact with dopamine. Binge eating and highly palatable foods can create a surge in dopamine, reinforcing cravings and compulsive eating. Restriction can also increase dopamine in a different way, which helps explain why it can feel rewarding even when it is harmful. Over time, these patterns can change how the brain responds to reward, making it harder to feel regulated without them. Understanding this helps reduce shame and opens the door to more effective, targeted support. ADHD Treatment and Eating Disorder Recovery We talk through how psychiatric medications can support both ADHD and eating disorder recovery. This includes the role of stimulants, SSRIs, and other medications in improving impulse control, emotional regulation, and the ability to follow through with consistent eating. Kirsten also addresses common concerns about medication, especially for parents. She emphasizes the importance of asking questions, understanding risks and benefits, and approaching treatment with openness rather than fear. Medication is not the only tool, but for many people, it creates the stability needed to fully engage in recovery. This Is Not About Willpower If your eating feels chaotic, impulsive, or out of control, there may be more going on beneath the surface. ADHD changes how the brain processes reward, attention, and regulation. When that is not understood, eating disorder behaviors can become a way to cope. You deserve support that looks at the full picture, including your brain, your nervous system, and the ways you have learned to get through the day. In this gripping episode, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe tackles a question that has troubled him for years: Why did Esther invite Haman (and Ahasuerus) to a banquet instead of immediately exposing his plot to annihilate the Jews? And why delay with a second banquet the next day rather than demand Haman's execution on the spot? The Talmud (Megillah 15b) asks the exact same question and provides ten (or more) reasons from various Tannaim and Amoraim, which Rabbi Wolbe learns through in detail.Key reasons include: setting a trap for Haman's downfall when comfortable (R. Elazar – "their table become a snare"); making the king jealous or suspicious (various views); preventing Haman from learning she is Jewish or plotting further; ensuring immediate execution before the fickle king changes his mind; arousing divine jealousy/mercy; making nobles jealous to conspire against Haman; and more. Elijah the Prophet confirms all reasons were in her mind—she layered multiple strategies in one move.Rabbi Wolbe reveals his personal "11th reason" that blew his mind: The first banquet fell on the first night of Pesach. Esther deliberately caused the Jews to miss their Seder (through fasting) to "test" Hashem's love for their service—showing how painful it is for Him when His children miss mitzvot (like the Seder). Hashem "couldn't handle it," tossing and turning (the king's sleeplessness = divine discomfort), triggering immediate salvation: Haman's blunders, execution, and reversal of the decree. This proves Hashem's immense love for our avodah—He values our Seder, Shabbat, tefillin, and mitzvot so deeply that He'd upend empires to restore them. Esther's delay was strategic: prioritize Hashem's desire for Jewish service over instant rescue. The episode closes with chizuk: Esther acted as part of klal Yisrael (not individually), declaring "me and my people." We must stay united, proud, and intentional in mitzvot—Hashem loves our closeness to Him more than we can fathom._____________The Thinking Talmudist Podcast shares select teachings of Talmud in a fresh, insightful and meaningful way. Send us Fan MailYou can be crushing your goals and still feel like you're running on empty. We're talking about that specific kind of exhaustion where you wake up tired, lean on caffeine just to start, and wonder why your energy never fully bounces back. I'm Daniela Campos, registered dietitian, and I'm pulling apart a common blind spot for driven people: what looks like “stress” is often metabolic depletion from underfueling, underrecovering, and pushing at athlete-level intensity without athlete-level support. We dig into the metabolic health basics that actually create sustainable energy, starting with blood sugar stability. Skipped meals and carb-heavy plates without enough protein can set off the spike-and-crash cycle that shows up as mid-afternoon slumps, brain fog during important decisions, irritability, and late-night cravings. You'll hear simple, realistic ways to fuel consistently with balanced meals built around protein, fiber from vegetables, and the right amount of starch so your focus and performance stay steady. We also cover why muscle is a metabolic engine, not just a “fitness” topic. Strength training and adequate protein intake help preserve muscle, support insulin sensitivity, and protect long-term energy resilience, especially as we age. Then we get honest about recovery: sleep, nervous system downshifts, and easing off the pressure to do everything at maximum intensity. If perimenopause or menopause is affecting sleep, we talk about getting the right medical support so you're not stuck guessing. If you know a high achiever who's quietly struggling, share this, subscribe to Simple Nutrition Insights, and leave a review so more people can find practical nutrition and recovery strategies that work. This is Fast Friday—a simple ritual that's become one of the most powerful tools in my life.
In this episode of The Body GrieversⓇ Club, Bri shares how receiving five perfectly fitting gowns from Sydney's Closet sparked a corrective experience that contrasted with her 2007 prom season, when a dream dress wouldn't zip and intensified shame, restriction, and a fixation on weight loss that later contributed to pursuing bariatric surgery. She reflects on being pre-diabetic at 16, the discouragement of dieting and being blamed for "not doing it right," and how clothes not fitting became a lasting scar tied to dating, food anxiety, and self-worth. As an eating-disorder-trained clinician with lived experience, Bri names anti-fat bias as stronger than capitalism, grieves exclusion and lack of choice in fashion, critiques the weight-loss-as-health narrative, and describes her current life at 35 as fat, healthier, and free from food obsession, while still navigating structural inaccessibility. 01:58 Flashback to 2007 02:53 Diet Plan and Pressure 05:16 The Prom Dress Dream 06:57 Prom Night Breakdown 09:37 Aftermath and Lasting Scar 11:09 Privilege of Choice 12:22 Sad Truths About Fashion 15:06 When Weight Loss Fails 17:09 Bigger Than Clothes 21:18 Healing Beyond the Scale 23:08 Letter to My 16 Year Old Self 26:11 You Are Worthy EPISODE RESOURCES: Stunning gowns designed exclusively for plus sizes at https://sydneyscloset.com/ WANT MORE OF BRI? *Instagram: @bodyimagewithbri *Website: https://bodyimagewithbri.com/ *Bri's Free Resource: 7-Step Guide to Shift Body Grief to Radical Body Acceptance https://www.bodyimagewithbri.com/seven-steps

Evan Gaertner and Mike Yagley finish their conversation on Dr. Martin Luther’s Bondage of the Will. This episode includes a discussion on free choice – the will and the reason cannot strive after God without God. Whenever the will and reason are described as us moving to God, this should be condemned because this is the opposite of faith. The only path to faith is our brokenness and trust in God’s revelation of promise in Christ Jesus. Beer Break FLVR! The Mets choose not to hold FanFest, and the optics could not be worse. The guys break down why skipping a fan event makes the organization look scared of its own fans, especially when there is nothing new to celebrate. Outside of modest moves, nothing about this roster feels better than it did months ago, and fans can feel it. The conversation then pivots to the New York football picture, including Antonio Pierce emerging as a legitimate sleeper candidate in the New York Giants head coaching search if it is not John Harbaugh or Kevin Stefanski. From there, the show spirals into classic chaos, Cinco de Lunch energy, Wild Card Weekend rankings, draft obsession, quarterback scouting madness, and the brutal reality that most fans watch sports through selfish rooting interests. It is part Mets frustration, part Giants coaching intrigue, and part unhinged Friday sports radio at its finest, with food debates, cheese takes, and playoff chaos layered on top.
