Episode 309 - Todd Boera & Jeremy Inzer, Fonta Flora Brewery Happy Monday, Thieves! It's been a while since we last caught up with Todd Boera, the co-founder of Fonta Flora Brewery in North Carolina, so we invited him into our COVID-19 free telephone studios for an update. He was kind enough to bring Jeremy Inzer, the head brewer along with him. Inzer was was a brewer at Live Oak in Austin, TX but is now having fun on the farm, experimenting with different fruits and herbs, and working hard to keep the native yeasts happy. They joined us for the black glasses and if you're looking for a fun game to play at home, take a drink everytime someone says "paw paw". Tune in and let us know what you think!***As always, you can email your questions, complaints, whimpers, or whines to us at stealthisbeerpodcast@gmail.com. Foam that milk up real good and grab the table in the corner with an open outlet, ‘cause this week the BnB crew are getting drunk and caffeinated with Haunted Coffee Shops! Vanessa orders first with the tale of the Stockyard Steakhouse (and former coffee counter... don’t come at me, I do what I want!) where a Lady in Red is pissed about your level of cleanliness. Then Melissa gets an extra shot with the story of The Rimsky Korsakoffee House where the mermaids have boob hands and the ghosts throw tantrums. Our beer this week is Holla’gram Coffee Stout from Fonta Flora Brewery. Who will win the battle of a businessman doing business vs a businesswoman not doing business? Listen and find out!
Back on site again this week as we sit down with Todd Boerra co-founder of Fonta Flora Brewing in Morganton, NC. We had Todd early in the days of Cheers Charlotte so we thought it was time to have him on again. A lot has changed since that first episode so we needed an update. We talked about his two other locations, what has changed for Fonta Flora, and what beers styles he has taken to brewing. Fonta Flora Brewing is in the northern tip of Morganton, North Carolina and specializes in belgian inspired beers. We not only enjoyed some of their delicious offerings but we laughed, talked about Zach's near death experience, and Matt told another, "You know what this beer reminds me of" Story. Hey Provisionists, new episode is ready and its a fun one! Mark, Evan, and Ryan sat down to educate our palates on bourbon. We each brought a bottle and taste tested them against each other. Three very different bourbons with we do our best to describe how they taste against each other. Lots of fun so tune in to hear us go through them and what we each brought. Also enjoyed was a great beer from Fonta Flora Brewery called Local Snacks. Cheers!!
Evan and Ryan team up to taste some cherry wild ales, one from OEC Brewing and the other from Fonta Flora Brewery. Similar style but very different beers, tune in to see how they stack up. Also tasted was Honolulu from Asling Brewing Co., a barrel aged stout with coconut and coffee. We did get a chance to go over our favorite match ups and games for the upcoming basketball tournament so see how we are doing with our picks! Cheers from P+P!!
Fonta Flora Brewery’s Todd Boera is known for creative yet grounded mixed culture botanical beers, and their new production brewery out on a farm 30 minutes from Morganton, North Carolina puts an even finer point on the connection between the brewery and the agriculture that supports it. In this conversation, he opens up about the way they think about and brew with offbeat ingredients, how they apply an ingredient focus to more conventional beers like IPAs, the challenge of opening a production brewery in a dry county (that is no longer dry), how the pace of change in the brewing world has forced them to throw out business plans and quickly adapt, and more. Today’s episode is part of a series of talks we recorded at the Shelton Brothers festival back in August in Atlanta — a phenomenal gathering of some of the best brewers in the world, as well as a few niche cider and wine makers, all holding their own in one of the most diverse and interesting product portfolios that’s ever been assembled. The folks from Shelton Brothers gave us a room, and free rein to curate talks with anyone we wanted, on any topics we wished. It’s a somewhat speedy series of interviews, much shorter than you’re used to on GBH, and that’s because we wanted to see if a series of topics might emerge — a pattern of sorts, that might give us an indication of what’s on people’s minds at this point in time, in this particular portfolio of producers. And sure enough, it worked. On a few of these episodes, other folks from GBH drop in from time to time as well, so you’ll also here from Blake Tyers and Kyle Kastranec
