Growing up, Grant was always seen as the happy kid. As an adult, and following periods of depression and then being hospitalised in a mental health ward for a manic episode, Grant was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. In Today's society, we feel like we have to show we are successful and share our awesome lives on social media. It sometimes comes to the expense of our mental health and people tend to be more depressive or anxious than ever. 5 years ago, Grant Trebilco launched a movement called OneWave that is now is several cities in Australia. The concept is to gather in the morning once a week and exchange about our struggles in a beautiful, loving and non-judgemental environment, and then go for a surf. I've recently opened up more about my emotions and struggles and it can feel like a liberation. It's a super interesting subject. Here are a few questions I'll ask but come with yours: 1. How and why did you start the OneWave movement? 2. Why do you think we suffer that much from anxiety and depression in Today's society? 3. What can we do about it?

Grant’s Wild Idea: To educate and raise awareness about mental health issues through surfing in bright colors, sharing his personal story, and starting a movement. Grant Trebilco is the creator of One Wave is All it Takes (OneWave), a nonprofit tackling mental health issues, literally one wave at a time. The organization started in Australia, and has quickly gained worldwide attention through its “Fluro Friday” events, where participants surf in bright colors and wild outfits, drawing attention to a darker issue. I met Grant while surfing in Australia, participated in a few of his events, and have been inspired by his story. Because he had an experience he was willing to share, Grant’s organization has helped numerous people around the world, both in the water and on land. By doing so, One Wave has become an international movement with coverage in outlets like the BBC.
