Ben's not writing a dystopia, they're writing a catharisis! "Like the Hulk!" but with a pink queer undercut. Ben Kahn is a comic book writer based in New York. This week is the return of writer, Ben Kahn. I last spoke with him way back in episode #25 when he was just starting his new series, Heavenly Blues with Scout Comics. That six-issue series has now completed and has not only been collected in a trade paperback, available now, but has been optioned as a feature film, so there’s some pretty exciting times ahead for Ben. Ben can be found online at his official site, BenKahnComics.com and on Twitter as @BenTheKahn. In other news, 2018 has wrapped up and I have shared my list of the top 10 horror comics of the year. Be sure to check it out over at HorrorTalk.com. I’ve had the pleasure of speaking to a number of the creators whose work is highlighted in the best of the bloodiest on this show. This week’s guest is Mina Elwell, the writer of InferNoct, a new series from Scout Comics that just debuted this week. It’s a moody, Lovecraftian mini-series that really gets under your skin. The comic follows Sam, a young girl starting a new job as an in-house nurse for an elderly man. Things start out a little weird at first and only get stranger as the comic goes on, leading to some pretty crazy reveals in the first issue alone. Mina can be found online on Twitter at @MinaElwell. InferNoct can be found on Twitter at @InferNoct_Comic and on Facebook and Instagram at @Infernoct. This week’s episode is also brought to you by Mutiny, the new horror film that follows Christina, a young reporter who struggles with anxiety, that discovers a virus that causes the infected to harm themselves in violent, and sometimes fatal ways. As Christina's boss pressures her to scrap the story, she starts to see signs of the virus all around her. Now, she must decide whether the real danger is out there or in her mind. If you're into body horror and social satire, this is the movie for you. Plus, if you’re a fan of The Kill Screen from previous Funny Book Splatter guest, Mike Garley, this will be right up your alley. I love how the wonders of modern technology have led to a whole new breed of horror story. The crowdfunding campaign for Mutiny launches today (October 20th), where your contribution can get you exclusive content, a pre-screening of the film, and even a walk on role on set! Join Mutiny on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook at @MutinyTheFilm to find out how you can get involved and help bring this project to life. In other news, a quick update for you. My very first Funny Book Splatter guest, Dirk Manning has just launched a Kickstarter campaign for Tales of Mr. Rhee: Volume 4. Everything Burns. The campaign met its funding goal in under four hours and is already plowing through stretch goals. Dirk always overdelivers on his Kickstarter campaigns including extra comics, prints, and more. In other news, Heavenly Blues from previous guest Ben Kahn has been optioned by 51 Minds to be turned into a feature film. As a reminder, Heavenly Blues is basically Ocean’s Eleven in Hell. This is some great news for Ben and I can’t wait to see how the movie turns out. CONTACT: Email | Twitter SUBSCRIBE: RSS | iTunes | Google Play | Stitcher Music by Eric Matyas (www.soundimage.org)

This week’s guest is writer Ben Kahn. I was first exposed to his work through the stellar graphic novel Shaman, now available through ComiXology. Ben’s latest work is Heavenly Blues, debuting on July 26th from Scout Comics. It has one of the best premises in recent memory. It’s Ocean’s Eleven...in Hell. If that doesn’t catch your attention, nothing will. Heavenly Blues works with a very unique view of the underworld that I haven’t seen before. I’ve had the pleasure of reading the first two issues and it’s definitely worth your attention. Be sure you ask for it at your local comic shop. Ben can found online on Twitter (@BenTheKhan) and his official site, BenKahnComics.com. Be sure to check out his work on Facebook too, at Facebook.com/ShamanComic. In other news, since this is episode #25, I think it’s time for a little celebration. In comics, issue #25 would be considered a special event. You might get a double-sized issue. Maybe a lenticular cover. Definitely collector’s item material. So to celebrate this monumental occasion, I’m holding a contest. While writing for HorrorTalk over the years, I’ve picked up a bunch of stuff that I’m not quite sure what to do with. Now, I’m going to put them in a box and send it to one of you. You’ll help me clean out my office and get a bunch of cool horror comic stuff in the process. The box will be a grabbag of sorts with at least one graphic novel, some comics, prints, buttons, and other assorted items, all related to horror comics. If you want to enter to win the prize pack, head over to the page for this episode at HorrorTalk. It can be found at HorrorTalk.com/Podcast. You’ll see a Rafflecopter there with all the details. He’s back, and boy, does he have a lot of great comics to discuss! In Episode 270, it’s the return of Brendan Deneen, who’s now from Scout Comics! Even though they already have a lot of terrific comics, they’re recently added even more, so we have a lot to talk about during our interview! We explore the transition from Ardden Entertainment to Scout Comics, what the new company is all about, and we delve into many of the terrific books Scout has available, more than I could possibly fit in this paragraph! For more about Scout and their offerings, go to their website here. During our chat, you’ll get the scoop on many of their excellent comics, including Solarman, Solar Flare, Heavenly Blues, Long Lost, Smoketown and others, so I’m sure you going to want to hear what he has to say!
