Avatar: The Last Airbender is an American fantasy drama television series developed by Albert Kim for Netflix. It is a live-action adaptation of the animated television series of the same name created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko for Nickelodeon. The series features an ensemble cast including Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Ken Leung, and Daniel Dae Kim. The series is set in a fictional world where human civilization is divided into four nations based on the four classical elements: the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads. In each nation, some people known as "benders" can telekinetically manipulate one of the four elements. The story follows the journey of twelve-year-old Aang, the last survivor of the Air Nomads and the next "Avatar" who can master all four elements. The series was first announced in September 2018, with DiMartino and Konietzko attached as both executive producers and showrunners. However, in June 2020, the pair departed the series over creative differences. In August 2021, Kim was officially announced as a writer, executive producer and showrunner. It was released on Netflix on February 22, 2024.[3][4] It garnered mixed reception from critics, with praise for the visuals and production design but criticism for the writing. The series is set in a war-torn world inspired by various Asian and Indigenous cultures where certain people can "bend" one of the four classical elements—water, earth, fire or air. Aang, the "Avatar" and the last living Airbender, is the bridge between the mortal and spirit worlds, and the only one capable of bending all four of the elements instead of just one. The Avatar maintains the balance of the world and nature to bring peace, and Aang is now faced with the responsibility of ending the ambitions of the militaristic Fire Nation to conquer the world. With his new companions Katara and Sokka, Aang sets out to master the four elements while pursued by Zuko, the exiled crown prince of the Fire Nation, who seeks to regain his honor by capturing him.[5] Premise[edit]

Why Do Hacks Feel the Need to Destroy Everything This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl review the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender Series from Netflix and the Warner Bros. feature film Dune: Part 2. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 AtLAB: 5:44 Dune Part 2: 37:28 Avatar the Last Airbender (Season 1) (Netflix) Out of 10 This Really is the Story of the Ember Island Players Darryl: 4.5/10 Brian: 4/10 Summary In the live-action adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” on Netflix, Aang, a young Airbender who has been frozen in an iceberg for 100 years, awakens to find the world ravaged by the Fire Nation. As the Avatar, the only individual capable of mastering all four elements (Water, Earth, Fire, and Air), Aang embarks on a journey to restore balance to the world. He joins forces with siblings Katara, a water bender, and Sokka, a talented Southern Water Tribe warrior, and together they face challenges and adventures as Aang trains to hone his bending abilities and fulfill his destiny. This remix of the beloved animated series bastardizes the core elements of the original story while presenting it through a live-action lens. Casting Choices: Some viewers find certain actors, particularly the young leads, to be well-cast and embody the characters’ personalities effectively. Negatives: Pacing and Storytelling Choices: Some critics found the pacing of the first season to be slow and felt the show condensed plot points from the original series, potentially hindering character development and impacting the overall story flow. Deviation from the Source Material: While some viewers appreciate the show’s attempt to adapt the story for a live-action format, others felt certain changes to the narrative or character arcs were unnecessary and took away from the essence of the original. Budget The budget for the live-action adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” on Netflix is reported to be $15 million per episode. This means the entire first season, consisting of eight episodes, reportedly cost $120 million to produce. Dune: Part 2 (2024) Out of 10 Why Did Lady Jessica Go Full Super-Villains Darryl: 6.25/10 Brian: 4/10 Summary Picking up after the events of the first film, Paul Atreides seeks refuge with the Fremen, the indigenous people of the harsh desert planet Arrakis. He continues to develop his prophetic visions and abilities, while also forming a bond with Chani, a young Fremen warrior. Meanwhile, the Harkonnens, House Atreides’s bitter rivals, remain in control of Arrakis and continue to exploit its valuable resource, spice. Paul grapples with the weight of his destiny and the potential for a violent future. He must navigate complex alliances and face difficult choices as he ponders the potential consequences of his actions. The film explores themes of revenge, destiny, and the struggle for power. It delves deeper into the intricate world-building of Frank Herbert’s original novel, introducing new characters and factions. Cast and Crew Director: Denis Villeneuve, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jon Spaihts based on Frank Herbert’s novel. Main Cast: – Timothée Chalamet returns as Paul Atreides, the young heir who embraces his destiny among the Fremen. – Zendaya reprises her role as Chani, the Fremen warrior who becomes Paul’s love interest. – Rebecca Ferguson is back as Lady Jessica, Paul’s Bene Gesserit mother. – Javier Bardem returns as Stilgar, the leader of the Sietch Tabr Fremen tribe. – Josh Brolin portrays Gurney Halleck, Paul’s loyal warrior mentor. New additions to the cast include: – Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, the cunning nephew of Baron Harkonnen. – Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, the Emperor’s daughter with a complex role to play. – Christopher Walken joins the cast in an undisclosed role. – Léa Seydoux as Lady Fenring. Other notable crew members: – Hans Zimmer returns to compose the score, building upon the unique soundscape established in the first film. – Greig Fraser serves as the cinematographer, capturing the vast landscapes and intricate details of Arrakis. Dune: Part Two – Production and Budget Production: – Development for Dune: Part Two began after Legendary Entertainment acquired the film and television rights for Dune in 2016. – Director Denis Villeneuve signed on in 2017 with the intention of making a two-part adaptation due to the novel’s complexity. – Originally, production contracts were only secured for the first film. The green light for the sequel depended on the first film’s success. – Despite Villeneuve’s concerns about the sequel’s green light due to the first film’s hybrid release (theatrical and HBO Max), it received the go-ahead, allowing them to move forward. – Filming for Dune: Part Two took place primarily in Jordan, Italy, and Hungary, with additional locations utilized as needed. Budget: – The estimated budget for Dune: Part Two is $190 million, which is significantly higher than the first film’s $165 million budget. – This increased cost can be attributed to several factors, including: – Expanding the scope of the story and world-building compared to the first film. – Bringing in new and established actors with higher salaries. – Creating complex visual effects and sets to bring the fictional universe to life.
Netflix will es jetzt besser machen.

Ali and special guest, Harry Mackin, discuss the masterpiece series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. You want to hear our thoughts on the show's themes of valuing mentors, embracing the dichotomy of ourselves, finding your destiny and looking inside yourself for the answers? What about the reasons Toph is the ultimate earthbender, hot takes on Kataang vs. Zutara, why Iroh is the absolute best, Katara's subtle yet powerful growth throughout the series, Zuko's redemption arc and how it parallels Aang's journey, the tragic toxicity of Azula, not to mention the comedic awesomeness that is Sokka? You'll get all of that and more with this episode so sit back and enjoy. Yip yip!
A new report from Avatar News suggests that Netflix's upcoming live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender and the world being built by Avatar Studios are related and that Netflix has the rights to adapt the characters and story of the show. The report also suggests that the relationship between Avatar Studios and Netflix is positive, but this has not been officially confirmed. The creators of the animated series, Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino, were originally attached to the live-action series at Netflix, but they announced their departure two years into the development of the show. They are now co-chief creative officers of Avatar Studios, a division of Nickelodeon dedicated to expanding the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. -------------------- *Check Out All Our Podcasts!* Geek Freaks Podcast: https://linktr.ee/GeekFreaks Pushing Buttons: https://linktr.ee/PushingButtonsPodcast TrekFreaks: https://linktr.ee/TrekFreaks Headlines: https://tinyurl.com/2p8bvu6d Geek Freaks Interviews: https://linktr.ee/GeekFreaksInterviews Outlast Podcast: https://linktr.ee/OutlastPodcast Round Three: https://linktr.ee/RoundThree Disney Moms Gone Wrong: https://linktr.ee/disneymomsgonewrong Sloop: https://www.patreon.com/GeekFreakspodcast -------------------- *Hang Out With Us!* Discord: https://discord.gg/6Jrvyb2 Twitter: twitter.com/geekfreakspod Facebook: facebook.com/groups/227307812330853/ Instagram: instagram.com/geekfreakspodcast E-mail: thegeekfreakspodcast@gmail.com Twitch: twitch.tv/geekfreakspodcast Site: thegeekfreakspodcast.com --------------------- *Support Us!* Patreon: https://patreon.com/GeekFreakspodcast Store: redbubble.com/people/GeekFreaks

From the brilliant minds of Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko sprung "Avatar: The Last Airbender," a profoundly Asian-inspired fantasy world that embraced the Hero's Journey through the beautifully complex protagonist Aang, a 12 year old destined to save the world from the imperialistic Fire Nation. Far from just an animated series, "The Last Airbender" and its successor, "The Legend of Korra," intelligently tackle serious themes, like colonization, female empowerment, and more, which is why the franchise has situated itself as a favorite amongst the young and the old.
We're slowly nearing the end of the Pana cycle! As Pana approaches the end of their journey and the overwhelming task set before them and has to make a decision, we thought it would be interesting to talk about Responsibility. And what better way to introduce that theme than through Avatar the Last Airbender, created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.Follow us on Twitter: @DetDelDragonsInstagram: @determinepodCheck out our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/DetDelDragonsHost/Producer/Editor: Peter MarkotsisHost: Izzy PerezMusic: JulieArt: Gloria Hosted on Acast. After the success of Avatar: The Last Airbender, show creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko decided to tell the story of the next Avatar; headstrong 17-year-old Korra of the Southern Water Tribe. Set seventy years after the concluding events of Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra catapulted watchers into the future of The Four Nations to see the mark Team Avatar left on their world, including the creation of Republic City, Aang's crowning achievement. Premiering April 14th, 2012 on Nickelodeon, The Legend of Korra ran for four seasons and expanded upon the world and lore of Avatar in new and exciting ways. Clearly ahead of its time, The Legend of Korra was the first show on Nickelodeon not programmed for Nick at Nite to show a same-sex relationship. From representation, to the addition of futuristic tech and Pro-Bending, Legend of Korra found a way to entice both new and old fans alike. On today's episode, Jon, Scarlett, and Ashley enthusiastically venture once again to the Four Nations to discuss the sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra. GC's own Team Avatar DO THE THING and dive into topics such as the show's surprisingly dark themes, the villains, comparisons between the two shows, how Nickelodeon really screwed over the creative team mid-way through the series' run, and more! The trio also discuss some of The Legend of Korra comics and the recent news surrounding Avatar Studios. Coincidentally, the studio announced its formation the week after our Avatar: The Last Airbender episode dropped. Whether you're a huge Avatar fan, or looking to discover more about it, today's episode is the perfect opportunity to explore this incredible world. On this episode we cover: The Legend of KorraBook 1: Air Book Two: Spirits Book Three: Change Book Four: Balance

This week on Total Movie Recall, Ryan takes us on a journey through time and memory to show us his origins as a film-lover, a man, and, lo, a human. Sure, he could have said his favorite movie was some snooty, intellectual piece of New Hollywood cinema, but that would be a lie. It's a VHS that his father got him as part of a $5.99 Big Mac giveaway at McDonald's, and he was never the same. He makes himself vulnerable before you, and of course, Steve makes him regret it. We're back for a brand new year with a brand new comics series! Following on the successful heels of their Avatar: The Last Airbender graphic novels Dark Horse Comics introduces the official Legend of Korra continuation series. The first story arc is called “Turf Wars” and it's written by original series co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino with art by Irene Koh. To go along with all the new we here at The Avatar Returns are trying a slightly new format in that we'll be reviewing these books as they are initially released rather than waiting for the hardcover Library Edition collections. So in this episode we tackle Part One (of Three), and I confess that we struggle just a little bit. Picking up immediately where the animated series left off we follow Korra and Asami on their getaway into the spirit world, and while it's wonderful to see these characters again the return isn't quite as smooth as we may have hoped. Paul and Arlo are worried about a seeming return to Book One hotheaded impetuous Korra; Koh's art is a significant change from Gurihiru in the ATLA books; there's talk of the Dumbledoring of Kya; and Eric will not condone a course of action that will lead us to Turf War. (That's a joke, he actually loves this book.) Endings are hard. Storytellers have struggled with bringing narratives to a satisfying conclusion for as long as there have been storytellers. And audiences love to debate how well even the most venerated series have pulled it off. On this episode of The Avatar Returns Podcast our hosts have their say on whether, with "Sozin's Comet," the four-chapter series finale film event, co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino have successfully completed the epic tale of Avatar: The Last Airbender, or if the whole thing goes down like a shattered war balloon. Topics discussed include the emotional grandeur of Zuko and Azula's final Agni Kai, the resolution of Aang and Katara's "will they/won't they," the music of The Track Team, and of course the ol' deus ex Lion Turtle. Midichlorian-bending has come at last! Our journey through the world of Avatar has been emotional and inspiring, and we're sad to see it come to a close. But the show must go on, and for us it will go on with The Legend of Korra! New characters, new adventures, a brand new Avatar! But first... Next: we refuse to let the Aang Gang go quite yet, so before we begin our Korra discussions, we read the first collected volume of Dark Horse Comics' official tie-in series of graphic novels, Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Promise.
