I’ve been doing less over the past few years, but somehow I’ve been achieving more, feeling more, and experiencing more. How is that possible? That’s what today’s episode is about.I talk about my story of doing less: how a breaking point and being sick for six weeks made me realize I needed to step back, how my physical and mental health has changed since doing less, and how I do less in my life now.I discuss the ways to do less: listening to your body, going with the flow, and listening to and trusting in the cycles of life. I also talk about the importance of receiving support.Doing less has led to some magical changes in my life, I know it will do the same for you. This episode was inspired by Do Less, by Kate Northrup, which I have been reading through this past week. I’ve been thinking a lot about what success means to me lately. I’ve started a business, moved, and completely changed my life this past year. I feel more successful than ever. Some of that has to do with money, but most of it just has to do with how I feel. Let’s talk about that. The new measures of success:How safe I feel in my bodyThe openness to receiveThe resources to give backFreedom of time, finances, & choiceHow deeply I can connectThe capacity to careHow much joy I can let inWORTHY waitlist: https://www.melissamoffet.com/worthyFREE MINDSET GUIDE: https://www.melissamoffet.com/worthymindsetWORTHY & READY Facebook community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/338322750170564/ICELAND RETREAT: https://www.adzentureretreatsyoga.com/luminousicelandSHOP MY RESOURCES: www.melissamoffet.com/shop (Use the code PODCAST20 at check out for 20% off).MELISSA’S INSTAGRAM: www.instagram.com/melissa.moffetAIR & EARTH PODCAST INSTAGRAM: www.instagram.com/air.and.earthEP. 16 CHOOSE YOUR HARD: https://www.melissamoffet.com/podcast/16
This is one of my favorite conversations I’ve had thus far.Gloria Baraquio is a Bhakti yogi who leads teacher trainings and retreats all over the world. She came to yoga through the path of healing her own suffering, and soon found immense fulfillment by sharing the practice with others.Gloria is one of my personal mentors and teachers. I completed my yoga teacher training with her and her Serge Berliawksy of Shivakali Yoga in the beginning of 2018. Her teachings and example of compassion, devotion, and mindfulness have been carried with me since then into my career as a teacher myself.I love this woman. I love her heart. I am SO excited to share that heart with you. Love Everyone Poem & Music Recorded Live at the Iceland Retreat with Tiger Singleton & Praful This clip is the first 4 minutes of a 35 minute guided meditation.
Dr. David Friedman is a naturopath, clinical nutritionist and neurologist. He studied Alternative Medicine at Harvard Medical School and is the author of the college textbook, Understanding the Nervous System. He has helped people like John Travolta, Jenny McCarthy and Paul Newman along their health journey. His most recent book, Food Sanity: How To Eat in a World of Fads and Fiction is an award winning, national best-seller. Dr. Friedman spent part of his career as a TV and a radio host, quickly finding that each guest he interviewed had differing opinions on food. He decided to research each food group to uncover what the real truth was when it came to their effect on human biology. He discovered curious insights into the working of the human body and the prevention of disease. This conversation with Dr. Friedman had me ready to run to my kitchen and throw out everything that is not nutritional or nourishing. As Dr. Friedman explains, the ideal human diet is based off of 90% plant foods and 10% animal proteins. Dr. Friedman and I talk about fad diets, why food science should never be trusted, how the meat industry has created a perception for the need for meat and when we should filter our water. Radically Vibrant David How fad diets take flight and why they initially work and then stop working Why you can’t trust science surrounding food, the meaning of “unbuyased” and what you have to trust instead The truth behind cavemen’s diets and why we should replicate this diet and the diet of chimpanzees Radically Inspired Clarity Avoiding pork is crucial as pigs are naturally extremely toxic, so much so that if bitten by a rattlesnake, the snake will die Become your own detective and figure out where the water and foods you are putting in your body are actually coming from If you have to use a microwave, be aware that the packaging can be even worse for you than the processed food Dr. David Friedman Answers… What’s the ideal diet? Should we filter our water? How has the meat industry created our perception that meat is an important component of our diet? Radically Loved Quotes “Diet is your way of living.” “Permanent weight loss and good health can be achieved by doing three things, eating healthy, eating obesogens and getting deep restorative sleep. That’s the secret recipe.” “The more red meat you eat, the more you ingest a certain molecule and the higher chance you are going to have colon cancer.” “I broke down each food group to see if we’re designed by our biology to eat it, if it makes common sense and if there is unbuyased science for it.” A Little More About Our Guest Dr. David Friedman is the national best-selling author of Food Sanity: How To Eat in a World of Fads and Fiction. He’s also written A Cup of Coffee with 10 Leading Chiropractors in the United States and the college textbook Understanding the Nervous System. Dr. Haythe is an assistant Professor of Medicine and the co-director of the Women’s Center for Cardiovascular Health. Dr. Haythe graduated from Harvard University and completed her residency at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and finished her fellowship in 2009. I talk with Jennifer about her journey to becoming a doctor and how she became so passionate about women’s cardiac health. She explains where the initial bias of women not having heart problems came from and how she is using her voice to advocate for awareness. In this episode, I ask Dr. Haythe how women can look for signs of decreased heart health, how to promote cardiovascular function and the ideal diet for women. Radically Vibrant Jennifer When women should start being screened for risk factors of heart disease The best diet for women and how to integrate it into their lifestyle Why women shouldn’t feel embarrassed about a heart related diagnosis Radically Inspired Clarity Define what healthy means to you and then make sure that it involves exercising, eating healthy, and stress reducing activities Avoid high protein and ketogenic diets because they aren’t healthy Look at how you treat your body and the toxic habits you have, finding the right balance that promotes moderation and your health Dr. Jennifer Haythe Answers… Are women at risk of heart disease? What diets should people most avoid? What diet is the most ideal for a long, healthy life? Radically Loved Quotes “We have a lot of ways of defining healthy.” “Healthy is ideally getting your heart rate up, at least four times a week.” “I’m not a fan of fad diets, they don’t work.” “I want women and men to make appointments and insist on being evaluated for risk factors of heart disease” A Little More About Our Guest Dr. Jennifer Haythe is a cardiologist at New York Presbyterian Hospital Columbia in New York City. Dagny is the founder of Fearless Unlimited, a consulting agency for brands and organizations making an impact on the world. Her role as founder of a social impact company has challenged her, teaching her the importance of maintaining a connection with herself and a wiser power. While balancing her roles of mother and founder, she has figured out that looking at life through a lens of curiosity is crucial to happiness. She’s used this lens to move through her career and have the courage to open her own company. Dagny explains why we have to use curiosity to drive us towards our purpose to ensure we don’t get stuck on the idea of failure. After talking with Dagny, I was reminded of the importance of silence. If the founder of such an impactful company stresses the necessity of sitting with your breathe and connecting with a higher power, you know she’s on to something. In this episode, Dagny and I discuss her method of transforming hard experiences into learning moments, how to overcome the fear of silence and why we have to craft our lives. Radically Vibrant Dagny Shifting from fear to curiosity in business, relationships and life Learning how to enjoy silence and using it as a means to find answers to your largest problems Being proud of telling yourself you’re doing a good job as a parent, employee, etc. Radically Inspired Clarity If you look at new endeavors as an opportunity to explore, you won’t worry about failing Look your problems straight in the eye while in moments of silence to find the solutions you’ve been hoping for Find a support system by first discovering your self worth and leaning into your self esteem Dagny Scott Answers… When was the moment you got out of your limiting beliefs? How do you find comfort in silence? What was the first step in creating a support system around you, personally and professionally? Radically Loved Quotes “I am so not fearless.” “If we ring everything out of every experience, we can trust it will bring us someplace beautiful.” “If you never allow yourself the power of quiet, you’ll never let yourself come into your true power.” “The more i was able to find my own self esteem, the better I’ve been able to choose supportive people.” A Little More About Our Guest Dagny is the founder of Fearless Unlimited alongside her co-founder Leslie Freeman. Together they help clients transform their businesses through consumer marketing practices and communications.
