Welcome back to Ditch the Labcoat. This week, host Dr. Mark Bonta sits down with Dr. Elliot Justin, emergency physician, innovator, and founder of FirmTech, for a conversation that's equal parts fascinating, funny, and paradigm-shifting. Together, they explore a topic that most people find awkward to talk about—but everyone is curious about: male sexual health.Dr. Justin shares how a personal injury and a deep curiosity about human physiology led him to develop an unexpected form of wearable technology—an erection ring that can not only enhance sexual performance but also collect valuable health data. Beneath the humor and candor lies something revolutionary: nocturnal erections, it turns out, may be one of the most powerful predictors of cardiovascular health we've been overlooking. In this episode, Dr. Bonta and Dr. Justin unpack what it means when men stop getting morning erections, how this can serve as an early warning sign for heart disease, and why the term “erectile dysfunction” might need to be retired altogether. They explore the complex interplay between vascular, neurological, and psychological factors that drive sexual performance; and how rebranding “dysfunction” into erectile fitness reframes the conversation around men's health, confidence, and relationships. From bedside humor to hard science, Dr. Justin reveals how FirmTech's technology has already identified hidden cardiac disease in users, improved relationships, and empowered men to take charge of their health in a completely new way. The discussion ranges from cardiovascular physiology to the social stigma surrounding male sexual health—and how technology might just be the bridge that makes it easier to talk about. If you've ever wondered what your body might be trying to tell you, why sex can be one of medicine's most underused diagnostic tools, or how innovation can transform intimacy and health alike, this episode is for you.Let's ditch the lab coat and get real about the science—and future—of erections.Dr. Elliot Justin, MD, FACeP, CEO of FirmTechhttps://myfirmtech.comEpisode Timestamps 01:00 Introduction to Health Metrics02:56 The Journey to Sexual Health Technology05:48 Understanding Nocturnal Erections09:13 The Role of Vascular Health11:57 Redefining Erectile Dysfunction14:54 The Impact of Technology on Sexual Health17:53 The Importance of Venous Return21:06 Patient Experiences and Relationship Dynamics24:02 The Power of Data in Sexual Health26:56 Safety and Usage of the Technology29:57 Future of Sexual Health Screening32:54 Concluding Thoughts on Sexual HealthEpisode TakeawaysNocturnal erections can serve as a leading indicator of cardiovascular health, offering a non-invasive way to monitor heart health. The technology developed by Elliot provides a dual-purpose solution: tracking nocturnal erections and serving as an erection ring to maintain sexual performance.Elliot's personal journey from emergency medicine to developing this technology highlights the importance of addressing sexual health as a vital component of overall well-being.The conversation challenges the stigma around erectile dysfunction, advocating for a shift towards discussing "erectile fitness" to promote a positive and proactive approach to sexual health. The data collected from the wearable technology can help differentiate between psychogenic and physiological causes of erectile issues, providing valuable insights for personalized treatment.Elliot emphasizes the need for a personalized approach to health, where individuals can use data to understand their unique health needs and make informed decisions. The episode underscores the potential of wearable technology to disrupt traditional medical practices by providing actionable insights and empowering individuals to take control of their health.Dr. Mark Bonta and Elliot discuss the broader implications of their work, suggesting that it could lead to new standards of care for men over 45 or those with specific health conditions. The conversation highlights the importance of open dialogue about sexual health, encouraging listeners to consider the benefits of integrating sexual health monitoring into their wellness routines.Elliot's innovative approach to sexual health technology is positioned as a tool for enhancing relationships and improving quality of life, beyond just addressing medical concerns.DISCLAMER >>>>>> The Ditch Lab Coat podcast serves solely for general informational purposes and does not serve as a substitute for professional medical services such as medicine or nursing. On Episode #187 of the PricePlow Podcast, we welcome Richard Foster (founder of Strom Sports UK) and Dean Harris (president of Strom Sports US) for an in-depth discussion filmed at PLT Health Solutions headquarters in Morristown, New Jersey. Joined by PLT's Steve Fink (who first joined us in Episode #146), this marks the podcast's first deep dive into the UK supplement market and the transatlantic differences in formulation philosophy, regulatory frameworks, and consumer expectations. Richard brings 19 years of industry experience building Strom from a UK supplement shop into a global brand focused on performance athletes, while Dean shares insights from bringing the brand to American consumers. Today, we're exploring the latest updates on Ozempic, a medication that's gained widespread attention for its role in weight loss. Originally approved for type 2 diabetes, Ozempic has shown significant potential in reducing body weight as a side effect. Its active ingredient, semaglutide, works by mimicking a natural hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1, which helps regulate blood sugar and appetite.Ozempic can lead to an average weight loss of about 7% of body weight over several months. However, not everyone experiences this benefit, as results can vary based on individual factors like diet and overall health. Semaglutide is also used in Wegovy, which is specifically approved for weight management and offers a higher dose.Beyond weight loss, semaglutide has been found to have cardiovascular benefits, reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes regardless of the amount of weight lost. This suggests that its effects extend beyond just weight management.Thank you for tuning in. Be sure to subscribe for more updates on Ozempic and other health topics. Diet has become one of the most polarizing topics in modern health. Whether it's carnivore, keto, or veganism, conversations around food can quickly become divisive. But beyond the noise and online debates — how do you actually determine the best way to eat for your health, longevity, and heart? In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Joel Kahn, an integrative cardiologist often referred to as “America's Healthy Heart Doc.” After decades practicing conventional cardiology, Dr. Kahn shifted his focus toward preventative medicine — emphasizing nutrition, early testing, and lifestyle strategies to help patients avoid heart disease altogether. Dr. Kahn shares his evidence-based approach to heart disease prevention, including how he helps patients identify and treat risk factors ten years before a potential heart attack. We dive into the science behind different diets, what research actually shows about plant-based nutrition, and why personalization — not dogma — is key when it comes to both food and medication. We also explore the connection between hormones and cardiovascular health, the role of post-menopausal hormone therapy in prevention, and what tests you should consider before ever starting statins. If you care about protecting your heart—and cutting through the confusion around diet and prevention—this is an episode you don't want to miss. Episode Highlights: Dr. Kahn's transition from traditional cardiology to preventive and integrative care His lifelong passion for nutrition and functional wellness The simple rule everyone should follow for a heart-healthy diet Research-backed benefits of plant-forward eating Why statin therapy should be personalized, not automatic The most important tests to request before taking statins How hormone therapy after menopause impacts heart health The vital link between hormonal balance and cardiovascular function Dr. Kahn's top testing recommendations for early heart disease detection Connect with Dr. Joel Kahn Dr. Joel Kahn's Website | DrJoelKahn.com Dr. Joel Kahn's Clinic | Kahn Longevity Center Dr. Joel Kahn on Instagram | @DrJKahn Dr. Joel Kahn's Podcast | Heart Doc VIP with Dr. Joel Kahn Dr. Joel Kahn's Books | View Dr. Joel Kahn's Library Dr. Joel Kahn on The Joe Rogan Experience | Listen To The Full Episode Dr. Kahn's Joe Rogan Experience Podcast Reference Guide | View The Reference Guide Episode Resources: Dr. Shawn Tassone's Practice | Tassone Advanced Gynecology Dr. Shawn Tassone's Book | The Hormone Balance Bible Dr. Shawn Tassone's Integrative Hormonal Mapping System | Hormonal Archetype Quiz Medical Disclaimer This podcast and website represent the opinions of Dr. Shawn Tassone and his guests. Good morning from Pharma Daily: the podcast that brings you the most important developments in the pharmaceutical and biotech world. Today, we're diving into some of the most significant shifts occurring in these industries, touching on strategic restructuring, regulatory milestones, and groundbreaking scientific advancements that are shaping the future of drug development and patient care.Let's begin with a major corporate shakeup at Novo Nordisk. The company has announced a significant leadership transition as former CEO Lars Rebien Sorensen is set to become the new chairman of the board. This change follows the resignation of seven board members and indicates a strategic realignment within the company. The Novo Foundation's involvement suggests a deeper strategic shift, potentially aligning with new organizational objectives and innovations. Such moves are pivotal as they could influence Novo Nordisk's market position and future product development.Turning to scientific breakthroughs, Merck's collaboration with Kelun-Biotech has yielded promising results with their Trop2 antibody-drug conjugate, sacituzumab-tmt. This ADC has shown success in two Phase 3 trials targeting lung and breast cancers, underscoring the therapeutic potential of ADCs in oncology. By selectively targeting cancer cells while minimizing damage to healthy tissues, ADCs could significantly improve patient outcomes and represent a powerful modality in cancer treatment. In regulatory affairs, Kenvue is challenging the FDA over proposed safety warnings for Tylenol linked to autism during pregnancy. This dispute highlights the ongoing debates surrounding drug safety and regulatory oversight. The outcome could have significant implications for labeling practices and consumer trust in over-the-counter medications. Meanwhile, Summit Therapeutics plans to file for FDA approval of ivonescimab, highlighting ongoing innovation in drug development pipelines. Similarly, Novo Nordisk's semaglutide pill Rybelsus has received FDA expansion approval to reduce major adverse cardiovascular events. This sets a new benchmark for oral metabolism drugs by demonstrating their potential beyond glycemic control to positively impact cardiovascular health. As we explore industry trends, there's growing interest in direct-to-consumer drug sales. While this approach offers patients access to medications at reduced costs, it raises concerns about privacy and the quality of care without traditional healthcare provider interactions. Additionally, a notable decline in pharmaceutical TV ad spending by 19% in Q3 suggests a shift towards digital engagement strategies. Amidst these narratives, the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) has launched an awareness campaign to combat misinformation about vaccines. This effort underscores the importance of immunizations in public health and aims to reinforce trust amid rising disinformation. In another scientific advancement, GSK has released positive Phase 3 data for Spero Therapeutics' oral antibiotic candidate. The oral formulation's efficacy comparable to intravenous options could lead to broader use and improved patient adherence—critical advancements as antibiotic resistance remains a global health challenge.Investment activities reflect strategic shifts within the industry as well. Curewell Capital's investment in Wilmington PharmaTech aims to enhance U.S. active pharmaceutical ingredient production capacity—a crucial step given recent global supply chain disruptions. Similarly, India's ACG is making a $200 million investment in its first U.S. empty-capsule production facility, highlighting the strategic importance of manufacturing capabilities on American soil.Galapagos' decision to wind down its cell therapy unit marks a significant strategic pivot from its previous focus on this modality. This shift reflects broader industry trends where companies reassess priorSupport the show
