Neckscars are a four-piece post-hardcore band based out of New York City, with members living in the Northern side of the greater metro area. Having come together back in 2019 as long time friends and occasional bandmates, they have culminated in putting together a sound that is familiar to fans of Hot Water Music, Nothington, Leatherface & Seaweed, but they are far from a carbon copy of any of those bands. Principal songwriter/vocalist/guitarist Will Romeo and guitarist/backing vocalist Justin Parish join the podcast today to discuss the band's new album, Don't Panic, and also give us an insight into the beginnings of the band and where they are headed. The individual members of the band each perform in other projects alongside Neckscars, and are veterans of the music scene, showing a maturity in their songwriting and overall approach to the craft. During the pandemic, the band opted to push forward with the release of the album, partnering up with Sell The Heart Records (hey, that's us!!) and Engineer Records (UK). The album has seen some high praise, and with shows starting to slowly return, they have already gotten to work with shows in their home area with homies Jukebox Romantics, American Thrills, Oh! The Humanity and more, and they are certainly eager to get the band on the road. To hear or buy the new album Don't Panic - https://neckscars.bandcamp.com/album/... Joining us this week is the one, the only, Mike Terry. Mike is the guitarist and co-vocalist of The Jukebox Romantics, an energetic pop-punk band from New York. The band's most recent album, a split EP with German punk outfit The Sewer Rats, came out in 2018, so the band is poised to bring some new material to the masses soon Mike is a seasoned road dog, having played hundreds of shows with Jukebox Romantics over the years. We discuss the early days of the band where he details their gung-ho spirit of touring 10 months out of the year simply because they could. As an East Coast "kid", Mike and I discuss some of the differences (or at least perceived differences) between the two coasts and the subsequent music scenes. Is there a defining characteristic that separates the two? Mike is also a die-hard wrestling fan, so it was fun to nerd out with him a bit about that. We also dig into some of his favorite artists that you should check out, as well as his 5 Desert Island albums. Checkout Jukebox Romantics music here - https://thejukeboxromantics.bandcamp.... Rachel Taft is the founder of the Baltimore based non-profit Feed The Scene. For over a decade, she and a small (but growing) group of people have been supporting the independent music scene by providing a place to sleep for artists traveling through the greater Baltimore area at her home, which can hold upwards of 20+ people. Feed The Scene also provides meals to these artists, which for anyone that has experienced life on the road is always such a welcome treat as there is not always a guarantee that venues will provide food. Born out of a turbulent time in her life, Rachel has been able to house well over 1700 different artists/bands over the years, often times having multiple bands of varying genres in her house on any given night. Everyone from The Jukebox Romantics to Joey Cape & Chris Cresswell to A Wilhelm Scream have stayed at her house, often on multiple occasions. Beyond the housing and feeding, Feed The Scene are also promote shows in their area. All-in-all, Rachel and her crew have become an integral part of the Baltimore music scene. As we discuss in this episode, it's a labor of love that she has embraced, and as was part of her main goal, was a way for her to get through some tough times by doing something incredible positive. As I will assume many people who have attended the amazing weekend that is FEST in the past can attest to, I returned home and proceeded to immediately become sick as a dog for 10 straight days. In addition, I also immediately returned to work and have not had a full day off until now. SO, it is with a ton of self-disappointment, but also great excitement and an appropriately nostalgic ThrowbackThursday timing that I present to you DWD's newest episode, LIVE FROM FEST 2.0! After having a great time last year getting some cool live interviews with amazingly talented and friends and bands who were playing or attending Fest, and documenting the whole experience, I decided to bring along my recorder again this year for my annual pilgrimage to Gainesville, Florida to partake in Punk Rock's biggest weekend, and get some behind the scenes chats with even more great artists! Fest was an amazing time, as always, and I had a great time hanging, catching up, and celebrating with friends from all over!
