This episode features an interview with the artist MEGG, who combines her love for pop music with her punk rock background to create a unique sound for a diverse audience of tomboys, romantics, and misfits. Born and raised in LA's South Bay, MEGG has achieved significant milestones such as performing at Dodgers Stadium, headlining at Saint Rocke Music Venue, and opening for bands like The Used. This summer, she will be playing at Van's Warp Tour in Long Beach, California. The conversation begins with MEGG recalling her first concert experience, a Madonna show, attended with her parents and a friend, which left a lasting impression on her as a child. They discuss various best concerts she has attended, including performances by Beyonce, Alicia Keys, and Missy Elliot. This inspires MEGG to share how these experiences shaped her musical career, leading her to attend the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and later the University of Southern California's Popular Music Performance Program.MEGG recounts forming several bands along the way, including Runway MMC with her friends, supported by her mother's visionary clothing line idea, and Party for One, a pop-punk band she started with her buddies from USC. MEGG's career took significant turns with these projects, growing from performing at college parties to headline venues like Saint Rocke. MEGG delves further into pivotal moments such as playing the Musink Tattoo Music Festival, opening for The Used, and the journey to secure a spot at Warped Tour 2025. MEGG's experiences exhibit her resilience and dedication to her craft amidst various challenges and the evolving music industry landscape. Towards the end of the interview, MEGG discusses her musical influences, her recent single releases, and plans for upcoming projects, such as an EP to be released in the fall following her performances at Warped Tour. She emphasizes the importance of staying true to her musical style while being versatile across different genres. This week, we start a new series all about appreciating the shredded, gravelly, gritty, raspy pipes and throats of rock n' roll. We are focusing on lead singers who crafted truly special tones with their sandpapered delivery. Join us in celebrating these unique sets of pipes that set them apart from all the others. Anyone can scream, but only a few deliver gravel, grit & glory! What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Our appreciation, this week, of rough and textured singing extends to all of the genres that we love. Kevin never realized how much this style of vocalizing had an impact on him until putting this whole thing together. As always, we hope we turn you onto something new!Songs this week include:Metal Church – “Ton Of Bricks” from The Dark (1986)Hot Water Music – “Trademark” from Fuel For The Hate Game (1997)Love/Hate – “Blackout In The Red Room” from Blackout In The Red Room (1990)The Baboon Show – “Gold” from God Bless You All (2022)Grave Digger – “Hymn Of The Damned” from The Living Dead (2018)The Distillers – “Die On A Rope” from Coral Fang (2003)Asomvel – “Born To Rock ‘n' Roll” from Born To Rock ‘n' Roll(2024)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://x.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/inobscuria/og-shopCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

Interview by Angela CroudaceAfter spending years as a fan, Chris Cresswell now finds himself on stage with Hot Water Music. "Being able to join one of your favourite bands is not something that happens every day," he says. The vocalist and guitarist of both Hot Water Music and The Flatliners knows what it's like to respect the music and the artists behind it. His journey into Hot Water Music, a band with a 30-year legacy, is a reminder of how passion and perseverance go hand in hand.As the band celebrates its milestone, Cresswell reflects on how its longevity is rooted in trust and communication. "The line up has always been the same… the nucleus of the bands… it's all about trusting each other," he explains. That trust is key to their success both on stage and in their personal lives, especially when life throws curveballs.A significant highlight of their 30th anniversary is the release of VOWS, which Cresswell believes resonates with old and new fans alike. "We worked our asses off on those songs… and I think we're just fired up because the band still plays for the people that love our music." One track, Menace, has already been a hit on the road, with Cresswell describing it as a "set turning point."When asked about transitioning into Hot Water Music, Cresswell shared that while there may have been some scepticism from the original fans, the reception has been overwhelmingly positive. "I was just coming from a place of such respect for this band," he notes. "I had to do it justice."For Cresswell, the journey is about more than just performing; it's about connecting with the people who made the band what it is. With VOWS marking a new chapter in Hot Water Music's history, Cresswell's story proves that music is a bridge between fans and musicians, old and new.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

SIX GOING ON SEVEN was and is a highly influential band that helped define a genre that bridged the gap between hardcore influenced emo and indie-rock. With their complex bass, guitar harmonies and sincere vocals, they were a force to be reckoned with. Often referred to as a “band's band”, Six Going on Seven came up alongside many of the household names we still discuss from the era: Jimmy Eat World, Hot Water Music, The Get Up Kids, sharing the stage with them and many others. Josh has continued creating music since SGOS ended, with an amazing array of solo albums and now onto his new band ATTEMPT SURVIVORS. Attempt Survivors is compromised of a who's who in the scene, guitarists Adam Marino and Matthew Kane, drummer Kyle Stevenson, and vocalist J. English of bands Saetia, Helmet, Six Going on Seven, and Errortype:11. Thanks for listening!!! Please Follow us on Instagram @hiddentracks99Pre and Post roll music brought to you by @sleepcyclespa

Plus we react to the news that Manchester recently opened Co-Op Arena is DEFINITELY cursed as Nikki Minaj gets arrested before she can perform there, the new that, despite Steve only saying a day prior that they would never reform, The Blood Brothers actually had already reformed a week prior and have sold out their entire comeback tour and we say HELLO (HA!!!) to a long lost dance rock banger from electro-synth legends The Beloved. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

We had the pleasure of interviewing Reconciler over Zoom video!Reconciler is a band from Atlanta, GA who first amplified in the summer of 2016. Harkening to a sound alternately Southeast and East Bay, they released their debut LP, Set Us Free, in February of 2019 to critical acclaim from punk and Americana outlets alike. The band spent 2019 playing often across the Southeast and East coast and announced their first European shows, slated for June 2020.Shortly After the first anniversary of Set Us Free, the world shut down and all plans were canceled indefinitely. Reconciler wouldn't see another stage for 18 months despite releasing a split 7 inch with the legendary Gainesville outfit, Ship Thieves in January of 2021 and offering another new track on the Grace vinyl comp alongside many noteworthy acts including Hot Water Music, Samiam, and Catbite the following October.Reconciler has been hard at work rebuilding and refining its focus and is beyond ready to return with their sophomore album, Art For Our Sake, via Smartpunk Records. This 13 track LP stands as a testament to the band's tenacity and work ethic and is certain to offer Reconciler's strongest output to date.We want to hear from you! Sean Carney explains what the Hot Water Music method is as well as some advice he learned directly from The Living Room. He also passes along what he feels is the most important thing when playing live. Plus, you'll find out what essential item is a must for him on tour and what truly inspires him about the punk scene. As you heard in the full episode, Sean talked quite a bit about his commute to play in The Scandals and how it helped inspire his song "34th & 8th". What I have for you at the end of this episode is Structure Sounds take on it followed by the earlier version which can be found on Sean's solo ep as I thought it would be interesting to share the evolution of a song. Enjoy! // Interview recorded October 17, 2023 via Google Meet // Intro music by Cedros // Hosted by James Toomey //

This week I have independent agent Eva Alexiou-Reo. I've known Eva since I was 18 and met her when she was booking the first national touring act I was with called The Eyeliners. Eva has built an empire over the years booking such bands as Saves The Day, Jimmy Eat World, Alkaline Trio, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Mae, Hot Water Music and much more! We talk about how she got her start to where she is today! The post Eva Alexiou-Reo – Fata Booking appeared first on idobi Network.
There was a time when the Midwest seethed like the sea, fields and farmland, widespread and curling, cities ringing dark, hollow and deep. Under the shadow of the Great Lakes, haunted by the ghosts of industry, the young made music because of there was often nothing else to do, packing into small town basements and howling along with each another in VFW halls.Hüsker Dü's punk roared out of Minnesota, wresting alternative melody away from the radio, and Squirrel Bait's Louisville energy found new translation in the emotional desperation and guitar-driven heaviness of bands like Falling Forward and Endpoint. Indianapolis gave us Split Lip, eventually becoming Chamberlain, fusing hardcore's political passion with emo's honesty and the kind of rust belt stories echoed in Americana's weary bellow. The echoes of this musical ethic pealed back from as far away as Canada, the West coast, and the swelter of the South, with bands like Shoulder, Grade, Samiam, Fairweather, and Hot Water Music all throwing their songs into the wind. Raising a grateful glass to this heritage, Toledo, Ohio's RESIGNATION have partnered with Friend Club Records to release their You Are More Than Right Now EP on February 10th, 2023. Listen to their first single, “Eddie Kingston,”premiered recently by Behind The Midwest Scene and now available on all streaming services. The band's earnest post-hardcore insists that their audience wrestle with empathy, recognizing shared mental health struggles and the deep need for community. It's a strange thing to be human and alive in this dystopian timeline, and RESIGNATION resolutely offers us gasoline and a sometimes sputtering torch, the promised light of which can kindle a hope for something more. Thanks for listening!!! This week we present another installment of an ongoing series called “Grave Mistakes: They Shoulda Been Huge!!!”. We bring you an in-depth exploration of a band from the early 2000s that straddles the lines of alternative, rock, metal, and prog simultaneously: DREDG! Equal parts Incubus-Tool-Muse-Pink Floyd-U2, yet this band was never able to break into the mainstream. We think this band Shoulda Been Huge!!! This episode is rooted in our Should Have Been category. This band is similar to another favorite that we featured on an early Grave Mistake episode; OURS. Kevin had a chance to catch OURS & DREDG on tour together back in 2005, although he screwed the time up and completely missed OURS; but that's beside the point. Robert is completely unaware of them. Will he agree with Kevin's lobbying for “Shoulda Been Huge” status??? Have a listen and find out for yourself. Songs this week include:Dredg – “Symbol Song” from Leitmotif (2001)Dredg – “Same Ol' Road” from El Cielo (2002)Dredg – “The Tanbark Is Hot Lava” from Catch Without Arms (2005)Dredg – “Ode To The Sun” from Live At The Fillmore (2006)Dredg - “I Don't Know” from The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion (2009)Dredg – “Upon Returning” from Chuckles And Mr. Sqeezy (2011)Dredg – “The Canyon Behind Her” from El Cielo (2002)Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/
