The Forehands: Not Your Typical Spiritual GuidesLet's get one thing straight: Karl and Laura Forehand aren't here to sell you the same old, tired spiritual clichés. Nope, they're here to wrestle—wrestle with beliefs, wrestle with trauma, and maybe even wrestle with you a bit. So, buckle up, because this episode of Snarky Faith is about to get real.Deconstruction: More Than Just a BuzzwordAh, deconstruction—the buzzword that's been making the rounds in spiritual circles faster than you can say "heretic." But what does it really mean? And more importantly, what comes after? Karl and Laura are here to break it down, and trust us, they're not pulling any punches.Pathways Forward: Because Stagnation is OverratedWe've all been there—stuck in the muck of outdated beliefs, toxic religious practices, and spiritual stagnation. But how do you move forward? Or should we say, how do you Lean Forward? Karl and Laura share their insights, and let's just say, it's not your grandma's spiritual advice.Snarky TakeawaysLook, if you're here for a feel-good, Kumbaya moment, you're in the wrong place. But if you're looking for a raw, unfiltered, and yes, snarky take on spirituality, deconstruction, and the journey ahead, then this episode is a must. We'll talk about all that and plenty more snark!Leaning Forward is available now on Amazon Featured Crackpots, Grifters, and Prophets: Greg Locke, Kat Kerr, Jim Bakker, and more. Big thanks to these outlets that make the Christian Crazy possible:Right Wing WatchChristian NightmaresFriendly AtheistCome along for the ride as we skewer through life, culture, and spirituality in the face of a changing world.www.SnarkyFaith.comCheck out the other fantastic Quoircast partners: The Heretic Happy Hour Podcast, Apostates Anonymous, The Messy Spirituality Podcast, Ideas Digest, The New Evangelicals, This is Not Church, and Wild Olive.

Here's Jason's quick review of Out Into the Desert:"Many of us are on a spiritual journey with no known destination. We have tried mainstream religion and have found it to be lacking and often corrupt. So we walked away from it all with no particular place to go. This journey into the unknown is a lonely quest and the isolation can sometimes feel overwhelming. Karl and Laura Forehand have been there and share their wealth of transparency and hard-fought wisdom with us in the pages of "Out Into the Desert". Laura and Karl are on this unfamiliar path right beside us and don't pretend to have all the answers. "People are finding acceptance, love, and healing outside of the organizational church. They feel like they were supporting the organization of the church and the church was not supporting them."  Karl Forehand ~ Out Into The Desert   Karl J. After serving conservative religious congregations for over 20 years, Karl Forehand found himself standing at the pulpit saying “Maybe we should admit that we might be wrong.” He realized that he had become complacent in his own personal inquiry into God, and needed to walk through a new door. The door Karl walked through led him to build the Desert Sanctuary with his wife Laura. It's a safe space for people to ask questions and have no answers, to deconstruct, doubt, process and share without judgement. His podcast, The Desert Sanctuary, explores the shift from religion to spirituality, from top-down God to God within. Watch this episode on Sunday June 28, 2020 for heart-felt insights from a man who has dedicated his life to understanding the greater presence within all of life. Doing church is tough. It can be wonderful, yet other times toxic. When/if you walk out, remember that Christ goes with you. He will never leave or forsake us. "We" are the church, not a building. Karl's book Apparent Faith: What Fatherhood Taught Me About the Father's Heart will remind you that God is the ultimate parent. Perfectly loving, God is restorative, not retributive. Halfway There | Christian Testimonies | Spiritual Formation, Growth, and Personal Experiences with God

Karl Forehand is an author, former pastor, and podcaster. Today, Karl shares the story of his deconstruction, an idea that has been bantered around a bit lately. But what is it? Deconstruction is simply the process of letting go of false beliefs about God, the world, and yourself and discovering the reality of all three. As Karl shares in his story, it can be painful and you can lose friends when you ask questions. But the process is also liberating and Karl found new practices, places of inspiration, and even wrote a book called Apparent Faith. This part of the journey can feel lonely and if you're there, listen to Karl's story and know you are not alone. Stories Karl shared: His current season of deconstruction Writing a book and his current work and situation Growing up in Oklahoma in a relatively spiritual home Struggling to fit in with his personality and feeling underestimated Feeling called to ministry and planting a church Realizing he could no longer fake his faith Learning from his children through conversation Finding contemplative practices to help him Learning centering prayer Learning about the shadow parts of himself What this season of dark night has taken out of him Why he wrote his book Apparent Faith The tea shop encounter that convinced him to be on the journey Great quotes from Karl: I think people underestimate me. It makes people uneasy when you start to grow. When I deconstructed as far as I did, Jesus was still compelling to me, the way of Christ was compelling to me. That was the part I couldn't give up. How can we describe God as a good Father if he acts worse than us-namely, if he abandons and even tortures his own children when they displease him? Karl faced this issue when he realized the God he believed in did not measure up to even his own paternal instincts.  Listen as Karl shares about his book, his journey, and the realizations that have helped him move forward.
