The Sabres were at the center of hockey discourse after failing to step up and respond to the hit taken by Tage Thompson on Sunday. We discuss the lack of response from the Sabres and how the lack thereof has shaped the discourse in the following days. We also run through the trades that came down over the weekend, including the JT Miller deal between the Canucks and Rangers. Our discussion covers the movement ahead of the start of 4 Nations Face Off and the implications for the teams in the West (and the Sabres pursuit of Elias Pettersson).

Kimberly Kelly Santini says it all in her tagline for her bio: Painter, Dreamer, Instigator. When I composed her bio for our podcast introduction, I learned that Kimberly is an artist that creates her environment not only for inspiration but for a springboard that propels her curiosity into new territories of nature. In this episode, she bullet points exactly how she does that and we feel our audience may be inclined to put some of those points in their own practice. I for one plan to pay more attention to my daily journal after hearing Kimberly talk about the how, when and why of her journaling process. I'm anxious to check out her YouTube videos on that topic, too. I'll put those links in the show notes for sure . Here is a formal bio for you to learn more about Kimberly:  Kimberly Santini  is formally educated as a painter, with a BFA in Painting and a BA in Art History, but worked a traditional career path for over a decade. She set up a home studio in 2001 and began with commissioned portraiture. In 2006 she committed to daily painting, a creative practice she continues today. Santini brings her unique voice to the easel with an unparalleled sense of color and spontaneity. She was honored as the official artist of the 2015 Kentucky Derby, has worked with the AKC on poster artwork, designed a wine label, and hung solo shows across the country.  A firm believer in community involvement, Santini is also in leadership roles with the Romeo Guild of Art and The Detroit Society of Women Painters & Sculptors.  Show Notes: Kimberly's Website Instagram Link Patreon for Kimberly Santini Kimberly's YouTube Channel Interview with Kimberly on CanvasRebel

They responded to that meeting with a 6-1 drubbing at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens. We discuss what the fallout of Monday's meeting could be, especially given the unbelievably flat and underwhelming response from the team in the wake of the highly publicized event. The Sabres desperately need to snap their playoff drought and if they're to do it, there are several key factors that will get the job done. In a different type of season preview, we discuss which players will serve as the key drivers for Sabres if they're to get back into the playoffs. We also touch on other factors that will be at play, such as the power play, and if all of the things the Sabres need to go right, will be too much for a team with a lengthy run without postseason hockey.

The Sabres roster has officially split as the team's 27-man traveling group departed for Europe on Tuesday. The players remaining in camp are made up of the bulk of the Rochester Americans roster. We discuss the final choices to round out that traveling party and how Lindy Ruff may have a tough choice to make in terms of how he handles his goaltenders once the team arrives in Europe. We also offer up some thoughts on the team's progress early in preseason while running through where some Sabres landed on The Athletic's player tier rankings.

The Sabres hit training camp with 59 players but very few questions about what the final 23-man roster will look like. Kevyn Adams' offseason yielded a number of new additions and has left very few openings for a training camp surprise like Zach Benson last season. We run through Peyton Krebs' new contract, the new roof and scoreboard along with Buffalo's roster as they prepare to open camp on September 18.

A well-regarded producer of television specials and variety shows, George Schlatter, in 1967 pitched to NBC an idea that was a radical departure: a comedy special inspired by the hippie counter-culture, one which would take the idea of sit-ins, love-ins, and be-ins, and manifest that politicized, sexualized, consciousness-raising energy into comedic sketches. The special, Laugh-in, was so successful it became a regular television series, running from January 1968 to March 1973 and eventually becoming the #1 show on TV.  George is the author of the new book Still Laughing: A Life in Comedy featuring never-before-told backstories from the creation of one of the most beloved shows in television history. It also recounts the coming-of-age of one of television's great producers, from his early nightclub days in Vegas, rubbing elbows with iconic mob figures like Mickey Cohen and John Stompanato, to his influential friendships with Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra, for whom George was asked to deliver a eulogy at his funeral.
