In this episode Beautiful Angels, Jo explores the journey one must take when devoting time back to themselves. Often times we as a collective do a whole lot of work trying to work and fix the energy that is placed within a relationship, or agreement. What happens when you are let down or even better yet, have to lean forward to find the zest that lives within you? You can lean closer to you, I just don't want you to lean all the way back when you should have been moving forward. You deserve more, you can give yourself more. Find the energy to lean forward so you know you can count on yourself, despite it all.Go ahead. This is real life. Peace be with you. With gratitude, Jo Monvil

What You'll Hear In This Episode:Wait - you mean women just don't get to sit back and let a man do all the work in dating? There's a difference between giving a man space and allowing a man to open up. Why is being accessible so important to a man, and what does that look like? A date isn't about how to get a man to like you. It's about each person opening up, connecting, and seeing if there is a connection of romance or even friendship that is worth your time.If a man isn't asking you rapid fire questions on a date, it does not mean he doesn't like you or doesn't care about getting to know you. Lisa defines accessibility and how it creates a safe and loving space for both partners. Lisa shares the beautiful shifts that happened when she started to take the responsibility for herself in every single interaction, and how it showed her the kind of woman she was. The date is really two people that are ultimately, in the best of all possibilities, each looking for the Guardian of Your Soul.” - Benjamin“When I think about accessibility, I think about creating a safe and loving space for two people to be human with one another.” - Lisa“It doesn't automatically mean that a man doesn't want to get to know you if he's not asking questions.” - Lisa

Opera everywhere, including the beach, and world music in a park This is a very special episode if you enjoy music in manifold ways. We're covering opera, world music, and alternative rock, so prepare for some sensory overload. Firstly, we turn to opera because State Opera of South Australia has two intriguing programs lined up that are exemplars of the company's stated aim of introducing new audiences to opera. We'll be joined by State Opera's Head of Music, Anthony Hunt, and its Artistic Director, Stuart Maunder. Secondly, we chat with passionate attendees of Womad, recorded at the event last weekend. Finally, in the Musical Pilgrimage, we feature the latest song from The Violets - the great, Aussie alternative Rock band that has reformed after, well, let's say, quite a few revolutions of the sun, and they show they still have it. Oh, and for the SA Drink Of The Week, we try some Green Ant Gin, as tasted at Womad. PS Here's our final reminder that Steve Davis and Ekkia Evans have been reviewing Fringe shows again this year. Oh, and here's our index of all episode in one concise page Running Sheet: Opera everywhere, music in a park 00:00:00 Intro Introduction to the show. 00:03:01 SA Drink Of The Week This week's SA Drink Of The Week is a Green Ant Gin by Seven Seasons Distillery, founded by Larrakia man Daniel Motlop. This premium distillery uses native Australian ingredients to create a taste of the world's "oldest new" flavours. 00:04:40 Stuart Maunder and Anthony Hunt, State Opera SA State Opera South Australia is launching a series of recitals this weekend ahead of the much-anticipated Boheme On The Beach - yes, that's opera by the seaside. I know State Opera has a mission to introduce opera to new audience but this seems to be evidence of the doubling of efforts because the recitals will be quite intimate - you'll be up close and personal with some of the celebrated chamber musicians and opera singers - and taking opera to the beach is a very Aussie move to "normalise" listening to opera. Let's explore these new frontiers with State Opera's Head of Music, Anthony Hunt, and its Artistic Director, Stuart Maunder. Bohème On The Beach Songs For The Sea Songs For A Day Songs For A Muse I'd like to start with the recitals. You'll be holding these at UKARIA Cultural Centre, which is a lovely venue in some of the last remaining natural scrubland around Mount Barker. It's not big. So, Anthony, just how close are we going to be to the performers? What headspace should one be in for attending a recital. I ask this because I've been doing a little work with 5MBS the Classical and Jazz music station, and there was an intriguing comment that a few listeners made when I was interviewing them. They said that they can't have fine music on in the background, they must listen actively. Are you expecting that most of your audience will be the type of listeners who LEAN FORWARD in their seats? OR, is it possible to enjoy these recitals the way Leigh Warren advised me to enjoy dance; just lean back, don't try to focus on anything in particular, and absorb the experience? Anthony, we will share the link for more information in the show notes, but can we have some highlights of the program? I would say, your elevator pitch, but that conjures an image of musak, which we don't want associated! Stuart, it took everything within me not to curtsy when I came into your presence today because I still remember the absolute perfection of your May 2021 production of Sweeney Todd. I was swooning for weeks - and I went unshaved! I know State Opera wants to broaden its audience and I noted two things. Firstly, my young cousin, Jamie, was there with a group of friends (all in their 20s); they'd made a special effort to attend. And, secondly, I brought along former Lord Mayor, Stephen Yarwood, who said he only accepted my invitation because it was me; typically he'd reject invitations to any concerts featuring country music or opera. But he left converted. Can you describe the alchemy involved? What cross-over potential does Boheme On The Beach offer? How accessible will this be to "new" ears? I've been reviewing theatre for almost 30 years and always take note of the projection of voices. How on earth will our singers project when you have such a large open area, sea breezes, and ocean waves to contend with, not to mention the occasional clanging of a tram? Is there a trend towards more engaging and interesting dramaturgy in opera these days; I note that State Opera's Barber Of Seville last November was very ornate in its acting demands on the performers. And what does La Boheme have in store? Finally, can we wear thongs to Boheme On The Beach? And does this create a precedent for Her Majesty's Theatre? 00:43:05 Womad voices Last weekend, Steve wandered the parklands at Womadelaide 2022, and bumped into some passionate advocates of the event who were quick, willing, and able to share some thoughts on why they're attracted and how proud they are of the organisers for persevering through Covid. Our Womad voices are: Karen Lewis Stuart Kuhl Evelyn Roth Alison James Heidi Angove 01:07:59 Musical Pilgrimage In the musical pilgrimage, we're going to listen to Sideways, the first track to be lifted from The Violets' first album in 20 years! Back in the 90s, if you listened to Triple J and other places where the cool kids hung out, you would have heard a few tunes by The Violents. They were signed to Phantom Records for 13 years and after eventually securing a deal with KRELL/SHOCK records, they ended up in a label war and ended up playing their last show in 2021. Fast forward to 2020 and in the event of the remastering the re-release of their 25th anniversary album, ‘Leased Regret', which won music industry album of the year 1995, they decided to reunite and make an album that has just been released. It's called ‘Smoke, Mirrors & other half truths'. The Total Lunar Eclipse also amplifies emotions; it's reminding you that you're breaking up with with a previous version of yourself and that's okay. You can say goodbye to things that served you at one point in your life with love and gratitude AND be equally as excited to make space for the new. The Sagittarius energy is the Archer - helping you pull back so you can propel forward towards your manifestations. The movement of pulling back, however daunting it feels, is absolutely necessary in order to create the momentum and fire towards what you're aiming for. This eclipse in the fire sign is asking...are you prepared to make moves and shoot your shot? Are you making energetic space for all the things you want to call it? Are you letting yourself lean back in order to lean in? _____________________ ▲Free Masterclass for Healers (REPLAY): https://tinyurl.com/6224226623 ▲Learn your Healer Archetype here: https://www.alwaysplay.org/healerarchetype ▲We Breathe on Sundays: https://www.alwaysplay.org/sunday-night-breathwork ▲ Mastermind + Accelerator for Healers, Coaches, and Practitioners Launching Intuitive Businesses: https://www.alwaysplay.org/nca ▲Healing Arts Practitioner Training Program Immersion: www.alwaysplay.org/immersion ▲Become a certified breathwork facilitator or sound healer: https://www.alwaysplay.org/breathwork-facilitator-certification ▲ Become an Integrative Health Coach (Save $2000): https://geti.in/3vhkSWB ▲Connect on social: @shanila.sattar Music: Armeen Musa, Shara Dao Support my work: Share with friends, venmo: Shanila-Sattar, sponsor an episode hello@alwaysplay.org

Today, let's talk about HOW TO Lean Forward with THE 'F' WORDS. I had a brief stinct working with a radio house. While working there, there are words that are forbidding. You dear not mention them on radio. Doing that can lead to you being warned. When repeated, that can call for suspension, and maybe eventually being fired. What are the 'F' words that you can lean forward with? Take a listen.

You can deliberately create memories that you want with people that you love, at work, and wherever you find yourself. This is what create your personal or organisational brand. When people and those you work with look back, or remember you, the memories are what they can recall. When you are dead and gone, the intentional and deliberate memories that you created would be all they have with them. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/sam-semako/message

Jim Mahoney is a fantastic public speaker. My original intention for this episode was to help teachers improve their presentations. Yes...this interview provides such direction, but as my convo with Jim evolved, it became apparent that teacher presentations was just one layer of onion skin. Jim's been in the teaching biz for 47 years. He's been a teacher, coach, principal, central office administrator, superintendent, the Executive Director of Battelle for Kids, and finally...he's returned home to the classroom. Jim now enlightens future teachers as a professor at Ohio University. In this episode Jim delves into hooks, transitions, lesson plans, evaluations, reading, presentation, public speaking, storytelling, student-led learning, and more. This is a man that has seen plenty of change and has embraced plenty of change. What shines through is fierce passion for kids and deep wisdom about how to foster learning. Please visit Jim's website to learn more about him, sign-up for his book notes, or ask him a question. Consider this interview a pep-talk for the 2018-2019 school year!

The world is filled with words. Everybody’s talking. We communicate primarily through our words. But what about the space between the words? We are always trying to determine what to say next, but how much do we think about when to say it—and when not to? Every compelling relationship—with family, friends or co-workers, and even the therapeutic relationship—requires silent moments to deepen the connection, trust and love that make them the “pearl of great price” which we ultimately seek. This is true even with the relationship between our body, mind and soul, that is, our relationship with ourself. “Silence in the Space Between” was first published in 1998 as Dr. Steven Beazley’s doctoral dissertation, earning him a PsyD in clinical psychology. Now, after 16 years, he is returning to the topic of silence and fashioning the dissertation into a book. A new faculty mentor in CalSouthern’s School of Behavioral Sciences, Dr. Beazley visited the university’s campus last fall to attend a meeting and was randomly, and quite surprisingly, reunited with his dissertation chair, CalSouthern curriculum developer Dr. Bob Weathers. The two had not seen each other since Dr. Beazley’s doctoral defense in 1998. During this lecture, as if there were no passage of space or time, the two will sit down and “talk” with you about silence as it relates to space, time and relationships. Those who view the lecture will be able to: - Describe the qualities that silence possesses and communicates. - Understand the relationship of silence to words and sound. - Identify usage of silence in the art forms, as well as the role of “white space.” - Explain how the therapeutic relationship is affected by silence and its role in rapport. - Begin conceptualizing their own use of silence in their relationships, deepening the connections they make in their lives. Speaker Bios: Dr. Steven BeazleyDr. Steven Beazley is a new faculty mentor at CalSouthern, where he teaches doctoral project courses. Dr. Beazley’s professional experience is highly eclectic: he has worked as a professional actor/singer, university professor, and was president and CEO of an arts and entertainment event center that included an 8,500 seat outdoor amphitheater featuring some of the biggest music acts in the world. He earned his PsyD from Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology, where he also served as a professor upon graduation. Dr. Beazley owns a consulting firm called Lean Forward that specializes in arts and entertainment and education consultation. In 2015, Dr. Beazley will add executive coaching and personal life coaching to the services offered by Lean Forward. Dr. Robert WeathersDr. Bob Weathers is a curriculum developer at California Southern University. He has more than 35 years of experience educating graduate-level clinicians. In addition to having served as the founding clinical director of a local, nationally recognized residential drug and alcohol treatment center for adults, Dr. Weathers has decades of professional experience in providing psychotherapy and coaching to clients presenting with the entire range of clinical issues and concerns. A sought-after speaker and prolific writer, Dr. Weathers’ current research areas of interest focus on reducing shame and stigma in addiction and recovery by means of instructing clients and their families about addiction and the brain.

Since last night's victory, I have been riding on a natural high. All the tea party nuts had been defeated except the crazy lady married to the big old queen, Michelle Bachman. That's okay, she narrowly scraped by and will likely be doomed in two years when she's up for re-election. Her brand of crazy is no longer welcome in the US Congress. Obama pulled it out with the popular vote and the electoral vote. How wide a margin will largely depend on Florida once the count is finally tallied. A big heaping thanks to those that stood in line (up to 4 hours) after the polls closed to make their vote count. The American people appreciate your resilience. It just goes to show that no matter how much money the Koch brothers or Sheldon Adelson throw into our system, they weren't able to buy our government, because we the people (at least 51% of us) are smarter than that. I hope your investment was worth it because a couple of Supreme court justices will be retiring and Barak gets to replace them. I fully expect the disastrous Citizens United to be reversed. Giving corporations personhood status and allowing folks to dump as much money into our campaigns to buy off congress all in the name of free speech is quite possibly the most fucked up decision these right-wing thugs have ever decided on. I give to you the final Chill Edition for the year 2012. Lest we forget, I've packed it with all the highlights of right-wing nuttery from the year as well as those cases that made national headlines and brought shame to our great nation. I'm off tomorrow and will get back to the regular business of this site by working on a holiday electro set for your folks. Thank you for your patience as I worked out my demons in these chill sets.
