Today's Poll Question at Smerconish.com: Do you feel more drawn to organized religion, less drawn, or about the same? As Easter, Passover, and Ramadan converge, Michael explores whether America is experiencing a quiet return to organized faith—or continuing its long secular drift. New data shows declining religious affiliation overall, yet a surprising increase in Catholic and Orthodox conversions. What's driving this contradiction? From post-COVID isolation to technology's grip on daily life, Michael examines whether a hunger for community, structure, and human connection is pulling people back toward churches, synagogues, and mosques—and asks listeners where they stand. 1 Corinthians 14:20-4020 Brothers and sisters, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults. 21 In the Law it is written: “With other tongues and through the lips of foreigners I will speak to this people, but even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.”22 Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers; prophecy, however, is not for unbelievers but for believers. 23 So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and inquirers or unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind? 24 But if an unbeliever or an inquirer comes in while everyone is prophesying, they are convicted of sin and are brought under judgment by all, 25 as the secrets of their hearts are laid bare. So they will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, “God is really among you!”26 What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up. 27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, two—or at the most three—should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret. 28 If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and to God.29 Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said. 30 And if a revelation comes to someone who is sitting down, the first speaker should stop. 31 For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged. 32 The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets. 33 For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord's people.34 Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. 35 If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.36 Or did the word of God originate with you? Or are you the only people it has reached? 37 If anyone thinks they are a prophet or otherwise gifted by the Spirit, let them acknowledge that what I am writing to you is the Lord's command. 38 But if anyone ignores this, they will themselves be ignored.39 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. 40 But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.

Send us a text“Organized religion” seems to have a bad rep nowadays. It's associated with authoritarian hierarchies, dogmatic beliefs and rigid rules. Many of us instead want to identify ourselves as simply “spiritual”; we want to be people connected with some greater reality, some deeper truths and higher ideals, to something Divine, but without the confines of organized religion. Fair enough. And interestingly enough, in the Bible, the first heroes of faith—Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, did not belong to some existing “religion,” and neither did Moses, at least at the start. It was from Moses onward that we have something that we'd now call “organized religion.” And the book Exodus recounts why the ancient Israelites needed it, and the reason may surprise us. Because today, we tend to only see one side of this idea, without understanding the other—the side that we'll begin to explore in this episode. Also: “GOD”? What's That? In this episode of The Sacred Speaks, host Dr. John W. Price welcomes Mirabai Starr—acclaimed translator of the mystics, teacher of interspiritual wisdom, and luminous guide to the sacred woven through daily life. Together, they explore the heart of ordinary mysticism: discovering holiness not only in monasteries or mountaintops, but in the tender rhythms of our own existence. Mirabai opens her story with radical honesty—her countercultural Jewish upbringing, alternative education, and the teachers and traditions that shaped her. The conversation turns to how rigid ideas of “being spiritual” can keep us from true intimacy with the divine, and how humility, humor, and embodiment restore us to a living spirituality. Mirabai shares how the death of her teenage daughter became a devastating but sacred initiation, revealing grief as one of the deepest portals into divine love. Moving between ancient voices and her own life, Mirabai offers a mysticism that is fiercely tender, humble, embodied, and accessible to all. This dialogue invites us to see our own lives as sacred ground—woven with loss and beauty, pain and joy, shadow and wonder. Key Takeaways Mysticism is accessible in everyday life, not just in monasteries or religious settings. Rigid religious or cultural ideas of “spirituality” can block authentic spiritual experience. Embodiment and emotions—especially grief—are sacred entry points into deeper connection. Translating the mystics is less about history than entering a living dialogue across time. Friendship, humor, humility, and even money can be part of an integrated spiritual life. The leaders of organized religions are people I call “Mystics”.  They stared at Babel, and have spread to every corner of the world, amassing power and influence by guarding access to their secrets.  In the secular world, they exist in secret societies that influence governments.  Or as members or hereditary priesthood and “royal bloodlines” that consolidate and hoard power from the people. But they are also found in “Christian” churches! So how do “Christian” mystics amass power and influence when we all have access to the Word of God?  They claim that the information God has revealed to man is incomplete!  There is a secret treasure trove of juicy knowledge that God has only given to his super special elite followers.  And of course, God made them the holy, anointed guardians of this knowledge.  So if you want to know the real, honest-to-goodness, full and complete truth of God, you must submit to their authority and only believe what they say about God! We will discuss the origin of the Mystics in this week's podcast. For exclusive content, Q&A Videos, and private Bible study, become a Faith By Reason Patreon www.patreon.com/faithbyreason

The Mother of Harlots is the title given to the original false religion which started at Babel (Babylon), and gave birth to all the false religions around the world.  But in a denotative sense, the physical Mother of Harlots was the Queen of Babel – the mother/wife of Nimrod, known as Semiramis.Through her deceit, manipulation, deception, and lust for power, she created the first organized spiritual opposition to God's plan (religion), but corrupting the Gospel narrative, and inserting herself and her family in the place of the Holy Trinity!  When God judged Babel and scattered the population, each group took a version of that first organized religion and adapted it to their, resulting in the various ancient religions.Who was Semiramis, and how did she create organized religion?  We'll talk about it on this week's podcast. For exclusive content, Q&A Videos, and private Bible study, become a Faith By Reason Patreon www.patreon.com/faithbyreason

Are all religions the same?  Many people think so.  And it's almost understandable when you look at the fact that most religions share the same themes of “god(s)”, creation narratives, the fall and redemption of man, supernatural intervention, and apocalyptic judgment.  Some of them even feature a “virgin birth”, and the death of a “god” in order to save mankind.  Furthermore, many of these various religious texts predate the Bible by hundreds of years.  So is the Bible just a collection of older religious beliefs complied by the ancient Jews as many secularists believe?Absolutely not!  The Bible is unique in many ways that we've discussed previously.  Furthermore, God's plan was known by men LONG before any other religion was established.  In fact, I would argue that all other religions are corruptions of God's plan.Where and how did God first reveal his plan to mankind?  We'll explore that question on this week's podcast. For exclusive content, Q&A Videos, and private Bible study, become a Faith By Reason Patreon www.patreon.com/faithbyreason

Episode 185: Hosts Richard Kyte and Scott Rada discuss a paradox in America — that even as formal religious participation declines, belief in the supernatural remains remarkably strong. According to data from the Pew Research Center, 86% of Americans believe in the existence of a soul or spirit, 83% believe in God or a universal spirit and 70% believe in an afterlife. These findings suggest that while fewer people identify with organized religion, the human need for spiritual and supernatural explanations persists. "It seems to go deep in human nature," Kyte said. "Human beings want answers to why questions like, 'Why am I here? What's the purpose of my life?'" Kyte explained that while science has provided explanations for many of the "how" questions, religion continues to play a role in addressing the deeper "why" questions that science cannot fully answer. This desire for meaning and purpose beyond the physical world appears to be a fundamental part of the human experience. The discussion also explored the role of religion in providing community, support and a sense of purpose, particularly during difficult times. Kyte emphasized the importance of religious practices and rituals in helping individuals develop the habits and disciplines necessary for a "meaningful life." About the hosts Scott Rada is a digital strategist with Lee Enterprises, and Richard Kyte is the director of the D.B. Reinhart Institute for Ethics in Leadership at Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
