Techno City Frankfurt am Main. Vor Jahrzehnten Heimat legendärer Clubs – von Dorian Gray und Omen bis U60311 und Cocoon. Wo früher Theatertunnel und Zeil gesperrt wurden, damit zehn- bis hunderttausende Menschen dort feiern und tanzen konnten, ist es heute ruhiger, aber nicht unbedingt „gemütlicher“ geworden. Die Ruhebedürfnisse einiger Anwohner stehen solchen Events ebenso oft im Weg wie mangelndes Verständnis innerhalb der genehmigenden Behörden und (übertriebene?) Sicherheitsbedenken. Zwar kann der Love Family Park 2023 erstmals in Frankfurt stattfinden, doch der Weg zum ökonomisch nicht tragfähigen "Probelauf" war lang und schwer. Noch viel schwieriger ist die Situation für kleinere Veranstalter. Sie finden kaum Zugang, geschweigedenn Unterstützung seitens der städtischen Verwaltung, Fördermittel stehen ihnen so gut wie gar nicht zur Verfügung. Es bleibt selten Platz für die Interessen, Formate und Wünsche jüngerer Subkulturen, zumal das ein oder andere Vorurteil die ohnehin vorhandene Skepsis der Behörden befördert. Auf dem Podium im MOMEM: Mirrianne Mahn (Vorsitzende des Kulturausschusses und kulturpolitische Sprecherin der Grünen), Thomas Tritsch (Geschäftsführer Morgen Interiors und Co-Veranstalter „Kleinste Disko der Welt“) und Anna Wiebe aka Annagramm (DJ & Aktivistin). Im Gespräch mit Eastenders und Arndt geht es um Zustandsbeschreibungen und mögliche Lösungsansätze. Wie kann die Stadt das kreative Potenzial, das gerade „kleinere“ Veranstalter an den Tag legen, strukturell unterstützen und ggf auch finanziell fördern? Es geht auch um Geld, aber nicht nur. Wir bringen auch "Naturalsponsoring" ins Spiel, wie etwa durch punktuelle Müllentsorgung auf Kosten der Stadt. Vor allem gilt "Clubs are Culture", und Nachtkultur muss endlich in ihrer gesamten Diversität und Bandbreite als soziokultureller wie auch ökonomischer Standortfaktor erkannt und gefördert werden. For historians, there are only few better biographies than that of Dorian Paic to illustrate the Techno and House history of Frankfurt: the jet set disco Dorian Gray, a place called Music Hall, Sven Väth's legendary Omen, the cult club XS or the younger high altars like the Monza or the Robert Johnson in Offenbach - Paic has been involved in one or another way. His mind had been inflamed already years ago. For the intensity and ecstasy that could be found in the clubs in the early years. For the strange mixture of people from all social levels and ways of life and for the taste of the smoke coming from the fog machines. And, of course, for the music. The nineties went by in a blur and Paic did not only become an authority of the downtown hot spot Monza, he also influenced the sound of his city in front of and behind the counter of the record shop institution Freebase. Ricardo Villalobos had Dorian support him on his highly acclaimed "Fabric Mix", Sven Väth chooses him as his preferred opening DJ at the Love Family Park and also in Ibiza, he is a welcome guest at the Cocoon parties. Laurels all around. But this is no coincidence. Experts don't appear out of the blue. This can also be seen in Dorian's work at his label "raum...musik". The next installment of the Egg London Podcast features two veterans who have been causing a stir once again recently. With over 40 years experience in the music industry, Paul C and Paolo Martini have certainly been, seen and done it all. Joining forces in 2009, the Italian duo have worked tirelessly in the studio not only seeing their music supported by many of the industry's biggest names, but also releasing on labels such as Hot Creations, Area Remote, Terminal M, 100% Pure, AMA Recordings, Great Stuff, Kiara Records and of course, Paul's Boutique. We caught up with them ahead of their gig at Egg London on Saturday 22nd February. Where, how and on what was the mix recorded? It's a studio mix done with 2 CDJ Pioneer 2000. It includes some of our own exclusive stuff plus some great tracks by others artists that we really like at the moment You've been production partners since 2009, do you both have a specific role in the studio? Whats your creative process? Any arguments!? Usually Paul C starts to make some beats and a groove by himself as he's very good on that and then we build it up the track together, choosing the main elements and all the rest to make sure the track works until we are both satisfied.... we care about all the details, as sometimes a very small element can be elaborated and became a successful main ingredient of the track, making it sound completely different. Today you can do miracles with the technology ... and yes we argue sometimes but at the end we always find a good compromise smiley 2013 was a massive year for you, you were signed to Jamie Jones' Hot Creations imprint and everyone here in the UK has been going crazy for PCPM sound. Any standout moments? Yes it's true it was a great year for us ... quite a few good things happened, like when our track "We Repeat" on Cecille was chosen as the soundtrack for the official trailer of "Love Family Park 2013" or when "Spunk" on Material reach No. 2 on Beatport Tech house chart, the collaboration with Mousse T on Terminal M, not forgetting the massive support we had from a lot of big DJ's, thanks to all of them! And of course, being signed to Hot Creations was something really special to us. What is your tried and tested dance floor bomb at the moment? Quite a lot of the tracks off our forthcoming EP on Hottrax always go down well, and a pair of remixes that we have just finished ...also there's a lot of good music around at the moment like the new single of Joyce Muniz - Back In The Days on Exploited and Tom Flynn - Hoochie on Hot Creations .... both of them are real bombs! Anything else you'd like to shout about? We really can't wait to come and play at the EGG on Saturday February 22nd…it's our first gig together in London and we are very excited about that ....hope to see you all there!
