Have you ever felt the need to go back somewhere, but dreaded what you might face when you arrive? Maybe you wonder how much you've changed, or if anyone will even notice. It’s been a long time, and coming home isn’t easy, especially when the choice to leave was your own. Will people see your return as a sign of failure? Will you feel like a stranger in the place you once belonged? The fear of being seen as we really are, broken, bitter, far from perfect—can keep us from taking those first steps back. But what if the very place we’re avoiding is where God’s healing begins? What if the awkwardness, vulnerability & discomfort, is the 1st step to restoration & grace? My experience? God’s power meets ordinary people when they take that journey back to community with His people. So, what’s keeping you from coming home? Regret? Fear? Bitterness? Whatever it is, know that God is already at work—even if it feels uncomfortable. But to experience His healing, you’ve got to be willing to come home!

The story of the Prodigal’s son is one of the most well-known stories in all of Scripture. However, it holds so much more weight when you know just how important it was that that father didn’t simply wait for the son to come home, and instead actively sought it out.
Social media has become social comparison, and we do it ALL the time. You take a family vacation to see family. Your Instagram friend takes a Disney cruise and goes snorkeling. They win. You lose. THEIR life is better. You break up with your boyfriend/girlfriend, because it isn't healthy. Your Instagram friend gets engaged and announces a destination wedding. They win. You lose. THEIR life is better. You move into an apartment/house and think, "this could work." Your Instagram friend does a major home renovation. They win. You lose. THEIR life is better. In this message, Max Vanderpool unpacks the comparison game we play and what it means to be "valued" and "valuable."
We continued in Gathered Up in Jesus this week with "Lost and Found"... Luke 15
Some sins are committed openly and some are masked behind a respectable facade. Neither one deserves forgiveness, but God’s lavish love and grace have nothing to do with deserving.

David is still on the run and Saul is bent on murder. At God’s leading he and his outlaws save Keilah from the Philistines. But Saul gets wind of it and God directs David to flee Keilah, protecting him from the pursuers into the wilderness of Ziph. Jonathon risks one last meeting with David, and God uses it to encourage him. The Ziphites join in hunting David, and at the last second he’s only saved because raiding Philistines requires Saul’s attention. Saul gives up the chase and the place is called “Rock of Escape.” What is striking about the passage is Saul’s obliviousness to his own sin, believing that God is on his side in trying to kill David. Sin makes you stupid, and reminds us that it takes you further than you want to go, keeps you longer than you want to stay, and costs you more than you want to pay. God is a rock of our escape if we heed His Spirit, Word, people, and the circumstances of our stupidity.

In the story of the prodigal son both brothers are "in it" for what they can get from the Father, not a relationship with the Father. What motives you? Which brother are you right now? Maybe the story was never supposed to be about the sons but about the Father.
As kids, we heard that from our parents often. “It’s time to come home!” Whether for dinner, to do homework, or for some variety of reason, we got called home. And often as kids, it wasn’t what we wanted to hear. Especially when we were playing in the sun with our friends. But, what happened when we got home? In this sermon, which celebrates the Neighborhood Church’s Homecoming Rally Sunday, Rev. Dr. David D. Young explores the concept of spiritual homesickness and how we, as God’s children, are called to a home full of warmth, acceptance, love and nurturing. This is the first sermon in the Fall “The Quest and the Call” Sermon Series. Accompanying scripture passages are Isaiah 43: 1-7 and Luke 15: 11-32.
In today’s father’s day message we celebrate the fathers and men God has placed in our lives to love and lead us. We must also understand that this day can be very special for some and hurtful to others. Some will spend the day with their fathers, others will only have their memories. Many will have a loving father, while others not so much. We must remember on these days, we do not worship fathers. We love them, but we worship God our heavenly father. In today’s message, we will see God’s love as a father illustrated in Jesus’ parable of the prodigal son. Whether you are wandering or right by God’s side, Jesus has a word for you today. The Fire department's mission is Rescue. Jesus' mission was to Rescue mankind from sin, the devil and eternal death. He gave His life so we could be rescued. This mission is part of His plan for the Church. If rescue is Jesus' mission, then rescue should be the mission of His Church.

Anger in and of itself is not a sin. God get angry. Jesus got angry. It is how we react to our anger that is sinful. So how do we defuse our anger so it is not a sin?
