The Dads took a trip to Matchless Brewing in Tumwater, WA to chat with a true master of his craft Head Brewer Nick Crandall. Topics include his beginnings at Boundary Bay, a nine year stint at Redhook and being creative at Matchless. Also... an ingredient Joe is now obsessed with due to a comment from Nick.
The Dads pit Matchless Brewing's Matchless Bar and Hazelnut variant head to head in their lead up to an in-brewery interview with Production Manager/Head Brewer Nick Crandall. Rambling topics include Joe's Seattle beer trip to the Drink Zelko Dry cancer benefit where he visited Stoup, Holy Mountain, Urban Family, Fair Isle, Brouwers Cafe And the always enjoyable comparing of potty training notes.
The Dads put two breweries against each other to see who comes out on top. In the red corner, out of Tumwater, WA is Matchless Brewing with their 5th anniversary barrel aged stout. In the blue corner, hailing from Bellingham, WA is the powerhouse Structures Brewing with Sunrise Stout. Ding Ding!

On this edition of The BOB Happy Hour, we had some miscommunication and time zone confusion with our scheduled guest so we - The Hat, The Hair, and The Head (TH3) - chatted amongst ourselves about how COVID-19 is impacting us and how we are coping during these challenging times. What we're drinking: Matchless Brewing - Tumwater, WA Legacy System, Pilsner, 5% ABV "Sometimes the old system has something special that doesn’t need to be replaced. Big malt character from Weyermann Pilsner, Rahr Old World Pilsner and Weyermann Carahell malts are balanced out with moderate bitterness and floral hop character from a combination of Sterling and Saaz fermented cold with Rocky Mountain for a smooth finish." Barlows Brewing - Vancouver, WA Mischief & Disorder, Hazy IPA, 7.5% ABV "We've created a new hazy IPA with Norwegian-origin Kviek yeast that ferments quickly at much higher temperatures than most ale yeasts. This hazy is juicy, fruity and impossible to see through with flavors of pineapple, papaya, peach and melon. No fruit was used in this beer. " Brothers Cascadia Brewing - Vancouver, WA Helles Lager, 4.5% ABV "A traditional light lager hailing from Munich Germany, we were inspired to tackle this particularly complex beer. From the highest quality ingredients to the extended lagering time, we made every effort to create a crushable lager that is as exciting as it is drinkable." Matchless Brewing - Tumwater, WA Hop About Down Under IPA, 7% ABV "Made in collaboration with Brewmaster’s Taproom in Renton. Tropical hop stylings from Australia's Ella, Galaxy and Vic Secret meet a rich malty body from Bairds Pale and Gambrinus Honey Malts. Bright crispy bitterness and deep golden color." WELCOME TO THE FESTIVAL OF THE DARK ARTS. Well kind of, this episode is in honor of Stout month and all the glory it brings to Astoria, OR. Even though it’s stout week, Kaden couldn’t live with all three beers this week being stouts so he snuck in a delightful collaboration between Breakside and Maui Brewing. This episode we are drinking a breakfast stout by Matchless Brewing out in Tumwater, WA by the name of Dallah as well as From Astoria With Love, Russian Imperial Stout. Join us and find out about this delightful collaboration between Breakside and Maui Brewing, fermented with candied sugar. It’s a good one. Welcome back brew crew, after a week off we are back and ready to please your ears. That's right, today we do a little Beer Tech Review of the Brümate Hopsulator. We also discuss some upcoming beer tech that we plan to review in the future. Ever wonder what the top 25 cartoon babes are? Well today we break it down for you and discuss. If you're drinking along with us, the first beer we drink is called It's Ake. A Japanese rice lager from Matchless Brewing. This brew left us completely surprised with a subtle Sake aftertaste and smooth flavor notes. Our second brew comes from a Trappist monastery in Chimay, Hainaut, Belgium. Chimay is made by Trappist (not traphouse) monks since 1862 and boy howdy is it tasty. These beers are a little on the pricey side, so if you have the means, and feel like indulging, we highly recommend. Enjoy Brew Crew. Oh, and don't be a dick. Drink Responsibly.
