Ob im Biergarten, in der Sportsbar oder Eck-Kneipe: WM-Public-Viewing ist in unserer Region an vielen Orten möglich. Aber lohnt sich das auch für die Gastronomie-Betriebe? Von Antonia Scheurer

Was gehört in einen bayerischen Biergarten? Abgesehen von Bier und Bäumen? Bänke natürlich. Ja, aber welche? Darüber wird jetzt zünftig gestritten, weil dort immer mehr neumodisches Mobiliar aus dem Boden schießt. Eine Glosse von Ralf Thume.

Früher war er ein Bauernmarkt, auf dem die einfachen Leute ihre täglichen Nahrungsmittel gekauft haben. Heute ist er ein Marktplatz für hochwertige Produkte. Doch nicht zuletzt mit dem lebendigen Biergarten ist für jeden etwas dabei.

Grüße aus dem Kessel! Laura und Simon sind in Stuttgart. Das ist natürlich absolut klar. Wieder eine Stadt, die auf Lauras Tour nicht zu kurz kommen wird. Deshalb fühlen sich die beiden schon mal ins schwäbische Leben rein. Das hat sie vor allem in den Weinbergen stark berührt. Auf der Karlshöhe, im Biergarten, wurde bei Maultäschle und Flammkuchen viel geredet und die Zeit vergessen. Wie kann eine Stadt von oben nur so schön aussehen? Das deutsche San Francisco einfach. Aber dann wird es noch etwas ernster. Ein Geist der Vergangenheit hat keine Ruhe gegeben, und klare Worte sind gefallen. Es geht darum, wer eigentlich an einen geglaubt hat und wer nicht. Und dann purzeln die Worte aus dem Mund heraus. Irgendwie befreiend.

Morgen ist Vatertag. Zur Corona-Zeit war die Feierei mit einer ganzen Menge Organisation verbunden. Oma Rosi hat sich mit Hilfe mehrerer Reservierungen den ganzen Biergarten mit ihren Taxi-Jungs gesichert. Anreise erfolgt mit einer Bollerwagen-Karawane.

Im zweiten Weltkrieg ist das Zürcher Schauspielhaus ein wichtiger Zufluchtsort. Künstlerinnen und Künstler, die vom Nationalsozialismus verfolgt werden, finden an diesem Schweizer Theater eine neue Heimat. Den Grundstein dafür legt vor 100 Jahren ein Zürcher Weinhändler. Die Ursprünge des Schauspielhauses reichen noch weiter zurück. Und sie sind weit entfernt von einem künstlerisch anspruchsvollen Theater. Das «Volkstheater zum Pfauen» ist um die Jahrhundertwende eine Art Varieté-Theater mit Biergarten und Kegelbahn. Mit finanziellen Nöten und unterschiedlichen Besitzern. Es wird die Jahre darauf zur Nebenbühne des Stadttheaters, des heutigen Opernhauses. Aber auch dieses Konzept hat zu wenig Erfolg. Und dann tritt ein gewisser Ferdinand Rieser auf die Bühne. Ein jüdischer Kaufmann mit viel Leidenschaft fürs Theater, aber wenig Erfahrung. Er übernimmt das Schauspielhaus und baut es 1926 um. Ihm ist es zu verdanken, dass das Schauspielhaus zum wichtigsten Emigranten-Theater im deutschsprachigen Raum wird. Als 1933 die Nationalsozialisten an die Macht kommen, holt er verfolgte Schauspielerinnen und Regisseure nach Zürich, die in Deutschland nicht mehr arbeiten können. Am Schauspielhaus Zürich werden Stücke gezeigt, die in Deutschland verboten sind und sich kritisch mit den Entwicklungen im Nationalsozialismus auseinandersetzen. Diese politische Haltung provoziert heftige Reaktionen. Deutsche Nazi-Spitzel und die nazifreundliche Nationale Front in der Schweiz versuchen, das Theater einzuschüchtern. Es gibt Drohungen und Proteste. Das Schauspielhaus braucht für gewisse Aufführungen Polizeischutz. Auch aus gemässigteren Kreisen gibt es Kritik. Der Schweizer Schriftstellerverband fordert mehr Schweizer Stücke und wettert gegen das «unschweizerische» Theater. Rieser hält dem Druck zunächst noch Stand. Doch 1938 sieht er sich gezwungen, das Handtuch zu werfen. 260505PC Roadmovie 1 Mensch Mahler am 5.5.2026Im Frühjahr bricht man auf. Ich auch – ich habe eine längere Reise vor mir. Ich bin inzwischen viel mit Deutschlandticket und Fahrrad unterwegs. Ich komme gerade aus einem enorm ereignisreichen Wochenende, das schon am Donnerstag mit der Geburtstagsfeier unseres Urenkels Giuseppe Francesco begonnen hat. Guiseppe wurde 1 Jahr alt, die Großeltern reisten aus Palermo an und brachten einen kleinen Lamborghini mit, dem der Kleine eifrig im Hof herumfährt.Dann am Freitag mit unserer Berliner Familie auf den Hausberg Reutlingens, die Achalm, gestiegen. Am Samstag waren wir dann mit einem befreundeten Paar auf der schwäbischen Alb wandern. Und am Sonntag trafen wir uns mit unserem ältesten Enkel, seiner Familie und seiner Freundin im Biergarten in Stuttgart. Das war das Wochenende. Gestern noch mal durchgeatmet und heute geht's zu einem Treffen der hauptamtlichen Mitarbeitenden nach Kirchheim unter Teck, Mit dem Rad.Und dann packe ich ein für die große Reise. Am Mittwoch mit dem Zug nach Köln, von da an mit dem Rad nach Osnabrück und weiter nach Varel in Ostfriesland. Dort treffe ich mich mit 8 ehemaligen Mitstudenten (leider keine Frauen dabei), die 1980 in Hamburg Theologisches Examen gemacht haben. Es wird spannend. Und ich nehme sie gerne mit auf die Reise. Ein kleines Reisetagebuch begleitet sie und mich. Montag um Mitternacht plane ich wieder zu Hause zu sein. Mit 800 Kilometern in den Waden und bestimmt unzähligen schönen Begegnungen. Am Samstag den 16.Mai wird es wieder laut in Bottrop. Das Festival "Lautstark - Gemeinsam gegen Hass und Hetze" geht in die zweite Runde. Nach der erfolgreichen Premiere im letzten Jahr, wird dieses Jahr noch ne Schüppe draufgepackt. Zwei der beiden Organisatoren, Christina und Paddy Hell, haben mit uns am Mikro darüber ein bisschen geplaudert. Am Spielraum auf der Prosperstraße geht es bereits Mittags los und es wird ein Spaß für die ganze Familie. Neben der Live-Musik mit insgesamt 7 Bands, wird es natürlich auch lecker Essen und Trinken geben, ne Hüpfburg und den kleinen Biergarten wie im letzten Jahr. Also auf jeden Fall vorbeikommen und jetzt erstmal reinhören. Es lohnt sich.

Der nahende Frühling hat uns fest im Griff. Man hat kann schon das Grillfleisch schmecken, und das Sitzfleisch im Biergarten spürt, wie das flüssige Gold im Antlitz der Sonne die Kehle runterläuft. Craig Verhage is known as 'The BBQ Ninja.' He's an alligator hunter and celebrity chef at this year's Soulard Cajun-Cook-off on Saturday. The event is now held at the Biergarten at the AB brewery on Lynch. He talks about hunting alligators, and the importance of keeping the population at bay. He also explains his cooking techniques. He calls it an 'adrenaline rush' when he hooks an alligator!

Bauhaus Biergarten in downtown Springdale opened in October of 2022 to co-owners Chef Jennifer Hill Booker and Daniel Hintz... Recently, Daniel left Bauhaus, and Chef Rafael Rios of Yeyo's took his spot... You'll hear the story of how that went down... And what does Chef Rafael know about German food and culture? His answer might surprise you. With new ownership comes new ideas and menu items, we'll hear about those... And the beer... no domestic beers there... it's German and European beers only... we'll hear about their beer plans as well. Finally, a few quick notes.
