Outgoing Mayor Jackie Biskupski was Salt Lake City’s second female Mayor, and the first openly gay Mayor in Utah history. She presided over the city during an eventful time, but decided that important family matters needed her attention more than the Mayor’s office. During her term, Salt Lake City hosted the United Nations Civil Society Conference, saw a 30 percent drop in crime, the restructuring of homeless services and housing, and is getting ready to host the NBA All Star Game and Winter Olympics once again. Bob Evans of FOX 13 News in Salt Lake City sat down with her in November 2019 for a 3 Questions interview.

We had a great episode last week. Unfortunately, technical problems are going to technical problem. We talked about a lot, and so we try to recap as much as we can as quickly as possible. On the plus side, this may be our most ridiculous episode ever. Utah Royals Reserves wrapped up their first season in a championship game in extra time. - A massive accomplishment for Amy LePeilbet and her team. While in the meantime, World Cup winners Sauerbrunn, O'Hara and Press got the keys to the city from Mayor Jackie Biskupski. The game against Portland was a heck of a time. Sinclair opened up scoring early with an incredibly goal. Christen Press followed right before halftime with an equally impressive goal, and then the final minutes of play saw an own goal from Becky Sauerbrunn and then an equalizer for Rachel Corsie. Two centerback goals in the span of minutes - how about that huh? This week saw the Royals take on the NC Courage, and it was.... Mostly more of the same. A strong start, an uninspiring middle of the game, and a good closing. Some people have even started calling for Harvey's head, we don't think so. Stay tuned for a bunch of tangents.

In this off year election, turnout was predictably low in many areas, some areas saw a spike, but still many important were addressed. Jackie Biskupski appears to have unseated Ralph Becker for Mayor in Salt Lake City, Proposition 1 went down to defeat in the vast majority of counties, albeit narrowly in some cases. On the national scene, Ohio voters have rejected a marijuana legalization measure, Houston voters appealed an anti-discrimination ordinance and Kentucky seems to be following its neighbors in trending Republican. Today on the program we speak with Deseret News Commentator Frank Pignanelli and Michael Lyons, Associate Professor of Political Science at Utah State University.
