After 18 years on the air, Real Salt Lake's local broadcast for over-the-air television and streaming in Utah has gone dark as Major League Soccer shifts all local television and streaming rights to Apple in a new, 10-year deal beginning in 2023. That means the end of an era for play-by-play voice David "DJ" James and revered color analyst Brian "Dunny" Dunseth. The two established broadcasters signed off for the final time on KMYU last Sunday, and Salt City FC was there to catch up with them, to react with them, and to reflect on the end of an era in Salt Lake City. It's been quite the weekend for Real Salt Lake supporters, who saw their first team give up a late lead with a 75th-minute equalizer to Toronto FC in a disappointing 2-2 draw in front of a sold-out Rio Tinto Stadium. It's the third-straight match without a win for RSL, which exploded out of the gates. But is the magic running out on a team that currently sits tied for second in Major League Soccer's Western Conference? Elsewhere, in RSL Land, the U-15s are on fire, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Generation adidas Cup in Dallas with a 1-0 win Tuesday night over Austin FC. Tony Ramirez scored the only goal of the match early, an easy finish from Zavier Gozo in the eighth minute, and Ty Rinker earned the shutout in goal for RSL. ”It was a nervous and difficult game,” RSL director of coaching Arnold Rijsenburg said. “I think [Austin FC] was the first opponent we played against who was physically stronger than we were. I think the lack of experience of [the U15s] made them nervous. They didn't play the game we expected them to play, but they got the result. Real Monarchs took a 2-2 draw from Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 in the club's first home match in MLS NEXT Pro player, Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah. But the Whitecaps took the extra point in the form of a 3-1 win in the ensuing penalty shootout, an interesting quirk in the new league's rules and regulations. The Monarchs improved to 0-1-1 in league play, and will next face Minnesota United FC 2 on Friday at Zions Bank Stadium.

Sean and "The Coach" Mark Davis are back with the only Utah soccer podcast with a national championship ring to break down Real Salt Lake's 1-0 loss to Sporting Kansas City, the first loss of the season during a remarkably fast start. Johnny Russell got the goal, but more concerning are the injury issues plaguing Salt Lake. Can he step up if he is one of just two center backs available for head coach Pablo Mastroeni against rival Colorado on Saturday? There are a lot of injuries plaguing this RSL squad, and recovery times may keep several of them out for an extended period. Mastroeni told ESPN 700 that Justen Glad is still 3-4 weeks away, Bobby Wood is still up to four weeks away, and Aaron Herrera hasn't even started to train with the team in his comeback. Johan Kappelhol will miss 3-4 weeks with an injury suffered during pregame warmups at Kansas City, and Erik Holt — who was subbed at the half with plantar fasciitis to make way for Orozco, could miss 3-6 months for the Claret and Cobalt. Elsewhere in the soccer world, the United States all-but clinched qualification for November's World Cup in Qatar with a dominant 5-1 win over Panama in Orlando. After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is BACK on television and streaming everywhere, and that means the oldest inter-league tournament in North American soccer starts this week. Among the early participants is Park City Red Wolves SC, the fourth-division debutant that qualified for the first round of the tournament by virtue of winning the Mountain division title in USL League Two last year. Led by second-year manager and academy director Scott Mackenzie, the Red Wolves will open the Open Cup at 8:30 p.m. MDT Wednesday night in Las Vegas against Eric Wynalda and the NPSL side Las Vegas Legends FC. The match will stream on ESPN+. Utah Royals FC striker Amy Rodriguez suffered the lowest of lows two years ago, when she tore her ACL in her first game back from maternity leave with FC Kansas City. After slowly returning in 2018, A-Rod is back with a vengeance, scoring five goals in six matches to lead the Royals up the table in 2019.

Sean and Jake talked about the back-to-back six goal performances for RSL and their upcoming tilt against Minnesota United. Thoughts on the Utah Royals season along with comments from Laura Harvey were discussed as well as the recent poor form for the Real Monarchs. Sean and Jake then talked about the move in Los Angeles that saw Sigi Schmid resign his position with the Galaxy. Episode 11 of Salt City FC began with a recap of Real Salt Lake's 1-1 draw at home against the Montreal Impact. Sean Walker talked with RSL broadcaster Brian Dunseth about the match and where the club can/needs to improve as they embark on a road-heavy slate in pursuit of a playoff berth. Sean and Jake then talked about the Utah Royals and their lost opportunity in a 1-0 loss to the Seattle Reign. The guys examined what URFC will need to do to make the NWSL playoffs with just three regular season matches remaining. The guys recapped the opening weekend of the English Premier League and previewed the coming weekend of matches. The wrapped things up with "Added Time" where they talked about goals - both unique and majestic as well as one man's (misplaced) belief in VAR.

Salt City FC kicked off this week with the comeback wins for Real Salt Lake and the Utah Royals FC as they notched wins that kept their playoff hopes afloat. Sean and Jake also previewed the weekend's matches for RSL, URFC and Real Monarchs SLC. With the MLS trade deadline and FIFA summer transfer window quickly coming to a close, Sean and Jake examined the big trade for Christian Ramirez heading to LAFC from Minnesota United FC. They also looked at the future succession plan for RSL when Nick Rimando decides to hang it up. Sean and Jake took some time to talk about the English Premier League and the upcoming 2018-19 campaign. The guys previewed some of the big storylines entering the season. Finally, in "Added Time," Sean and Jake talked about MLS expansion chatter continuing with Phoenix looking to wedge their way into Major League Soccer. They also talked about Stan Kroenke taking over Arsenal by his buying out his minority owner's stake in the club.

Episode 9 of Salt City FC got off to a snoozer of a start...we mean rollicking start as Jake and Sean talked about the 0-0 draw for RSL at San Jose. They quickly transitioned to Real Monarchs SLC as the news of he week seemed to chiefly reside in the second division. Sean talked at-length with Monarchs broadcaster Landon Southwick about the team, league and he chances of starting up a USL All-Star Game. Sean and Jake then talked about Chandler Hoffman's impending move at the end of the USL season as well as the high-profile signings FC Cincinnati completed over the weekend. The guys finished things up in added time by talking about Neymar's self-awareness (or lack thereof) and how Major League Soccer can follow the NBA's lead in marketing itself.

Episode 8 of Salt City FC began with Sean and Jake talking about the 2-2 draw for Real Salt Lake against the Colorado Rapids. The guys talked about the changes that happened with the lengthy weather delay that interrupted the match before playing an interview with rookie outside back Aaron Herrera, who made his first start with RSL Saturday. Sean and Jake also examined the Utah Royals potential path to the NWSL playoffs as they enter an FIFA International Break. They also talked about the rough weekend that the Real Monarchs SLC endured as well. On the MLS front, Sean and Jake talked about the blockbuster trade that Colorado made for FC Dallas star Kellyn Acosta. They also talked about Mesut Ozil speaking out against racism and what the backlash he has received for refusing to suit up for the German National Team going forward. Finally, Sean and Jake answered listener questions in Added Time They also talked about a budding rivalry in MLS and a weird La Liga transfer signing.

Episode 7 of Salt Lake City begins and ends with the one, the only, Mike Petke. Real Salt Lake's coach had another epic rant after his team's loss to Minnesota United FC on Saturday and Sean and Jake are along for the ride to break it down. Utah Royals coach Laura Harvey was also not going to be left out with her own biting criticism of officiating in the NWSL and the guys broke down her comments. Sean and Jake also reacted to the World Cup and France's triumph in Russia to take home their second world championship. They talked about the transfer window opening, Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Juventus & if RSL fans should expect movement on the roster this summer. The podcast wrapped up with some additional notes on CR7, Thierry Henry's future in football and once again, Mike freakin' Petke.

Sean and Jake are back to talk all things soccer in Utah, the USA and the World (Cup). The guys started off by talking about the thrilling back-to-back victories for Real Salt Lake over Sporting Kansas City and FC Dallas. They handed out their midseason team awards as the club looks to go on a run down the back stretch of the season. Sean and Jake also handed out some Major League Soccer midseason awards as the awards theme continued. They also talked about the semifinals of the World Cup and made their picks for the final and who they think will hoist the cup. Finally, Sean and Jake wrapped up things by discussing the rough week for both the Utah Royals and Real Monarchs SLC and some thrilling failures by North Carolina FC in a draw in USL action.

Episode 5 of the Salt City FC podcast featured Sean and Jake talking about the mega trade the Utah Royals were a part of to acquire United States Women's National Team forward Christen Press. URFC coach Laura Harvey's comments on the move were the featured audio of the week. Sean and Jake then talked about Real Salt Lake and their coming off a bye week and preparing to face the San Jose Earthquakes. The guys also talked about the surging Real Monarchs SLC and their steady play in the USL. Finally the guys talked about the firing of Jason Kreis by Orlando City SC and what the ramifications may be for the former RSL boss. They also talked about the FIFA World Cup in Russia and the results from the first round of group play.

Utah Royals FC forward Brittany Ratcliffe explained her goal that dethroned the previously unbeaten North Carolina Courage, 1-0 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., then talks about the Royals' new acquisition of FW Christen Press.
