What happens when impossibility walks into the room? That's the question Vice President of Omidyar Network Michelle Jawando asks daily. Tackling intractable, complex social challenges is her job, and she loves it. For as long as she can remember, Michele has intentionally mentored, taught, and created pathways for the women following in her footsteps. As Senior Advisor to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Michelle became famous for her mentoring walks around Capitol Hill—a skill she learned from the amazing women in her family, like her aunt, Dame Lois Browne-Evans. Hear from Michele how Dame Browne-Evans, Bermuda's first Black woman lawyer who also served as Attorney General, reinforced Michele's commitment to community and equality. Join hosts Dee Martin and Yasmin Nelson as they chat with Michele about creating diverse spaces, mentoring the next generation, modernizing global philanthropy, and changing impossible to possible.

Like with any good project, it takes a team to get you across the finish line. For two seasons, the Center for American Progress has published this weekly podcast in hopes of encouraging its listeners to think about the world a little differently, and share perspectives that can help foster a more inclusive society. From Sally Tucker and Thinking CAP’s original hosts Michele Jawando and Igor Volsky, to our supervising producer Rachel Rosen and season two producer Kyle Epstein, and our researcher Chris Ford, making this podcast has been an exceptional ride. This week, we bring this part of the journey to a close by revisiting an interview Daniella and Ed recorded with A.F.S.C.M.E. president Lee Saunders about the state of the labor movement in the United States. Be sure to follow Daniella and Ed on Twitter (@dgibber123 and @EdChungDC) for news about what projects they have coming down the pike – we hope you come along for the ride.

On January 31, 2017, President Trump announced that he had selected federal appeals court Judge Neil Gorsuch as his nomination for the U.S. Supreme Court to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia. Many praised Trump on his nomination, citing parallels to Justice Scalia, while others saw Judge Gorsuch’s documented conservatism as a possible threat to future Supreme Court rulings. On Lawyer 2 Lawyer, hosts Bob Ambrogi and Craig Williams join Carrie Severino, chief counsel and policy director of the Judicial Crisis Network and Michele Jawando, vice president for Legal Progress at American Progress, as they take a look at the nomination of Judge Gorsuch, his record on rulings, and his potential impact on the Supreme Court if confirmed. Carrie Severino is chief counsel and policy director of the Judicial Crisis Network. In that capacity, Carrie has testified before Congress on assorted constitutional issues and briefed Senators on judicial nominations. Attorney Michele Jawando is vice president for Legal Progress at American Progress. Previously, Michele served as general counsel and senior advisor to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), where she was responsible for a wide-ranging portfolio of policy issues pertaining to the federal judiciary and nominations.
