I know how many of you feel. Ashamed at constantly failing a diet, ashamed you can't lose the weight, wondering why you don't have the willpower, embarrassed you don't have the means or the time to treat yourself better. Well, there is hope, and that hope starts by admitting we are addicted, meaning we are enslaved to something - sex, drugs, money or sugar. This episode was a sobering, clear-eyed realization that even someone like myself who is aware of the addictive nature of sugar did not fully appreciate the Thanos-like power sugar possesses and the havoc it is wreaking in people's lives each and every day. Bitten Johnson is a recovering addict since September 1985, with several outlets - the number one being sugar. When she looks back, she sees her sugar addiction started at a very young age. When Bitten was four years old, she stole sugar cubes in the kitchen whenever she could. After being in treatment for alcoholism, a consequence of sugar addiction, Bitten started her journey into recovery. Today, Bitten's mission is to free addicts, especially sugar addicts, from being a slave to the sweetness.Take the sugar addiction survey here: https://tinyurl.com/bitten-sugar Are you possibly a sugar addicted? Emerset Farquharson speaks about the body and the mind and how the body and the mind support each other. We are talking about the body and the mind working with each other rather than two parts fighting against each other. In this candid interview, Emerset shares his journey to this new perspective. This short episode is the inspiration for this season which focuses on presence and connection to self. To give further context: Imagine being tired and just lying down and taking a nap instead of feeling like you have to keep pushing. This episode has something to do with that. It has to do with what part of ourselves do we listen to? Do we listen to the body? Do we listen to the mind? When the body needs to rest or to move, how can the mind honour this need? When the mind needs to work through something, how can the body honour this need? Which part of us takes the lead and how can they work together instead of fighting each other?
