278: Austin Frerick takes the stage at our annual Churchtown Dairy event to explain why today's food economy looks less like a functioning market that benefits farmers and eaters, and more like a new Gilded Age. He traces how a handful of Big Food "barons" have consolidated power over grain, meat, dairy, coffee, and distribution, often using tactics that average humans would just never consider. He then lays out a practical reform agenda built around antitrust enforcement, institutional buying, farm-bill redesign, and stronger journalism to yield a more positive vision for rural America and the future of food and farming. https://realorganicproject.org/austin-frerick-food-barons-live-at-churchtown The Real Organic Podcast is hosted by Dave Chapman and Linley Dixon, engineered by Brandon StCyr, and edited and produced by Jenny Prince. The Real Organic Project is a farmer-led movement working towards certifying 1,000 farms across the United States. Our add-on food label distinguishes soil-grown fruits and vegetables from hydroponically-raised produce, and pasture-raised meat, milk, and eggs from products harvested from animals in horrific confinement (CAFOs - confined animal feeding operations). To find a Real Organic farm near you, please visit: https://www.realorganicproject.org/directory We believe that the organic standards, with their focus on soil health, biodiversity, and animal welfare were written as they should be, but that the current lack of enforcement of those standards is jeopardizing the ability for small farms who adhere to the law to stay in business. The lack of enforcement is also jeopardizing the overall health of the customers who support the organic movement; customers who are not getting what they pay for at market but still paying a premium price. And the lack of enforcement is jeopardizing the very cycles (water, air, nutrients) that Earth relies upon to provide us all with a place to live, by pushing extractive, chemical agriculture to the forefront. Russell Brand was once Hollywood's wildest and most controversial provocateur. Today, after battling severe addiction and facing scrutiny over his past, he has emerged as a sober family man, a devout Christian, and a vocal advocate for the MAHA movement. But the shadows of his past still haunt him in the headlines – and Russell is finally coming clean by addressing the sins of celebrity and fame. Dr. Drew reunites with Russell Brand for their first interview together in years. Taking a clinical and empathetic look at Russell's journey, they dive deep into the psychology of addiction, the reality of making mistakes, and the difficult but necessary path to redemption. Brand opens up about his conversion story, the lessons in his new book “How To Become A Christian In 7 Days“, and how he is pushing back against the media mob by focusing on truth, recovery, and spiritual health. Patrick and Ashley Sullivan, executive producers of the docuseries Breaking Big Food, join the show to expose how Big Tobacco quietly took over Big Food. #275: Marion Nestle takes the Churchtown stage to examine what the Make America Healthy Again movement is actually doing, and not doing, inside the American food system. She looks at food dyes, the GRAS loophole, SNAP restrictions, ultra-processed foods, pesticide politics, dietary guidelines, and the competing pressures of Big Food, Big Ag, and Washington lobbyists, arguing that the rhetoric around reform has been striking while the real test will be whether any of it meaningfully changes public health or the future of farming. https://realorganicproject.org/marion-nestle-food-politics-maha The Real Organic Podcast is hosted by Dave Chapman and Linley Dixon, engineered by Brandon StCyr, and edited and produced by Jenny Prince. The Real Organic Project is a farmer-led movement working towards certifying 1,000 farms across the United States. If you've ever stood in the grocery aisle staring at a wall of “clean,” “natural” or “better-for-you” labels and wondered what any of it actually means, you're not alone. In this episode of Retail Remix, host Nicole Silberstein speaks with Anna Vocino — actor, comic, cookbook author and founder of Eat Happy Kitchen — about what it really takes to build a clean-label CPG brand in a market dominated by food giants.Anna shares how her celiac diagnosis set her on a hunt for better-for-you foods that has evolved into a thriving food business and why breaking into grocery requires far more than a great-tasting product (although that matters). From label confusion and ingredient trickery to slotting pressure, promo costs and the realities of wholesale expansion, this conversation offers a candid look at what it takes to build a mission-driven food brand from the ground up.Key TakeawaysHow Anna turned her personal health journey into cookbooks, a podcast and the growing CPG brand Eat Happy Kitchen; Why building a clean-label food brand means constantly pushing back against misleading ingredient claims and grocery aisle “trickery”; How to navigate the challenge of not just getting on shelves but staying there by driving trial and managing margin pressure; Why Anna's direct-to-consumer community remains essential for the brand even as it expands to more than 1,300 retail doors; andWhat Anna's background in acting and comedy has taught her about pitching, negotiating and surviving the “Walmart wince.”PLUS…Stick around to the end to hear the voice Anna would give one of her best-selling products. Jillian Michaels enters the ring with "fearsome debater" and right-wing firebrand Andrew Wilson for a conversation so unfiltered it hits a "fundamental impasse". From Andrew's blunt critique of Jillian's lifestyle to his radical plan to restructure American voting, this episode deconstructs the very fabric of modern society. Viral Highlights & Hot Debate Topics: • The End of Universal Suffrage: Andrew argues that giving everyone a vote was a "terrible idea" and calls for limiting the ballot to "stakeholders" or those who are a "net gain" to the system. • The "Infantilization" of the West: Wilson claims Millennials and Gen Z have been "completely infantilized" by progressive ideology, resulting in a generation of "emotionally unstable" people who rely on safe spaces. • The "Feminism" Trap: Andrew defines feminism as a deconstruction of the patriarchy that "indoctrinates" women into debt-ridden college degrees during their peak childbearing years. • Privilege vs. Authority: In a viral-ready breakdown, Andrew uses the "Titanic" analogy to argue that because men are society's "expendable fixture," they must hold the authority, while women hold the "elevation of privilege". • The Nature of Rights: Andrew shocks by claiming "rights" are just "shit you make up" and only exist if they are enforced by "the power of government arms". The Ultimate Cliffhanger The tension reaches a fever pitch when Jillian confronts Andrew on the "elephant in the room": her own family. Andrew refuses to back down, labeling her lifestyle as "degeneracy" and "evil" from the Christian worldview, leading to a haunting debate over who should wield the "force" of the law. "We are in diametric opposition." Is there any room for a coalition, or is America destined for a tribal war of worldviews? Watch Part 1 now to see the conversation that pushed Jillian Michaels to the limit. Jakub Kosmowski left a career in marketing to start the vegetable CSA farm Farma Wola in Poland. In this interview, he tells us how he adapted the marketing principles he used with Fortune 500 companies to develop a market for and sell CSA shares for his farm. Jakub tells us how any type of farm can use the four Ps of marketing- “product, place, price and promotion” to think about the big picture before putting effort into marketing. Then we compare the merits of the different marketing channels- email vs social media vs paid advertising- to decide which channels make sense for your farm and how to repurpose the same content across multiple channels. In the process we talk about how to avoid some of the mistakes that even big companies make with things like Super Bowl ads, and how to set realistic objectives for marketing campaigns. He has suggestions for how to fix campaigns that are getting good reach but not generating sales. Jakub tells us how he uses affiliate marketing with local businesses to drive CSA signups. We also discuss how and why it's important to think like your customer, and lots of other tips that will help you raise your marketing game this season! What does it take to turn personal pain into policy change? In this episode, Dr. Vera Tarman sits down with Chérie St. Arnauld, Executive Director of Metabolic Revolution and a passionate advocate for metabolic health, to explore the power of grassroots mobilization in the fight against ultra-processed foods. Chérie grew up in a household shaped by economic constraints and ultra-processed food. It was her sister's cancer diagnosis, and the radical dietary intervention that gave her 10 more years of life, that forever changed how Chérie understood the relationship between food and healing. Today, she's channeling that lived experience into one of the most dynamic grassroots organizations in the metabolic health space. In this conversation, Vera and Chérie explore what the food addiction and metabolic health communities can learn from each other, and what it actually looks like to build a movement from the ground up.

In “Kim on a Whim,” Kim St. Onge dives into viral one-on-one debate videos featuring Jillian Michaels taking on body positivity activists, spotlighting heated clashes over whether obesity can be considered healthy. Kim and Marc Cox break down arguments around “unearned thin privilege,” doctor-patient dynamics, and the broader cultural shift away from personal accountability, while rejecting claims that excess weight has no health consequences. The conversation expands into criticism of “Big Food,” arguing corporations intentionally engineer addictive processed foods to keep consumers hooked, fueling both the obesity crisis and denial narratives, as the hosts draw a hard line between self-acceptance and medical reality.
Marc Cox opens the show with mounting airport disruptions as TSA callouts force emergency ICE deployments, tying the chaos to the ongoing DHS funding standoff and warning of wider national fallout. He then zeroes in on a heated local fight in St. Charles County, blasting PAC-backed attacks and doxxing targeting school board candidates like Lauren Greenwood while exposing what he calls political manipulation in education. The hour expands into a high-stakes tax battle over property tax freezes versus new EMS sales taxes, with Marc arguing unions are overreaching before losses even materialize. “Kim on a Whim” adds a cultural layer, as Kim St. Onge breaks down viral debates featuring Jillian Michaels dismantling body positivity claims and calling out “Big Food” influence, before the hour closes with a stark reaction to the death of Kermit Gosnell and a broader critique of abortion policy and shifting election standards following comments from Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito. The USDA just updated the food pyramid — and the nutrition world has opinions. But before you celebrate or complain, Dr. Terri sits down with functional nutritionist Elizabeth DiMeo to actually break it down: what changed, why it changed, what they got right, and what's still missing from the conversation.Spoiler: the low-fat era did more damage than we realized. And most Americans are still paying for it. What you'll discover: Why the war on saturated fat led directly to the seed oil crisis — and why your LDL isn't the enemy you think it is What "Franken foods" are and why they're quietly fueling inflammation, obesity, and chronic disease The real reason the food pyramid matters: it drives what your kids eat at school Why the Mediterranean diet keeps winning — and how to actually apply it to your life How to train your kids' palates before Big Food does it for you Simple, practical strategies for eating whole foods without overhauling your entire life This isn't about being on a diet. It's about understanding what real food is — and why getting back to basics might be the most powerful health decision you make this year. --- The Dr. Terri Show is presented by EVEXIAS Health Solutions. On this week's Digging In, we're exploring how major food corporations like PepsiCo are evolving regenerative agriculture from a marketing trend into a measurable supply chain standard. By leveraging upstream procurement, these giants use satellite imagery and AI to verify soil health across millions of acres of foundational crops. This shift mitigates financial risks for farmers through multi-year contracts, transitioning soil health from a "virtue signal" into a quantifiable business imperative. Will other companies follow the lead?
Eight out of nine people writing the U.S. dietary guidelines had ties to Big Meat and Big Dairy. Hmm. So what does that mean for the nutrition advice we're all supposed to trust? I asked a doctor to break it down. And why is cheese so hard to quit?Spoiler alert: it might not be your willpower. There's actual biology behind it. You know how much I love talking to doctors who are plant-based, and today's guest is bringing the receipts. Dr. John Lewis is a plant-powered physician, former associate professor at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and a researcher who has published more than 180 scientific papers. His Alzheimer's research has shown significant improvements in cognitive function using plant-derived nutrients that support the brain. In this conversation, we connect the dots between diet, brain health, Big Food influence, and the chronic diseases affecting millions of Americans. If you've ever wondered whether Alzheimer's is inevitable… or whether what's on your plate could actually help protect your brain… this episode will change the way you think about food. • The real reason cheese is so addictive (and why quitting it feels impossible for many people)• The massive fiber crisis in America and why it's wrecking gut health• Why the carnivore, keto, and high-protein craze may be setting people up for long-term health problems• The simple dietary shifts that can dramatically improve digestion and inflammation• What actually happens inside your body during fasting and why it may activate powerful cellular repair• The plant foods that may help support memory and brain health Some of what you'll hear may sound shocking. But once you understand the science, it changes everything you thought you knew about nutrition. And once you hear it… you can't unhear it. Then President Trump gives an update on how he believes the conflict with Iran is unfolding, while former President Biden appears publicly and leaves the crew trying to decipher some truly puzzling remarks. Yes, headlines say U.S. life expectancy has rebounded. But here's what they don't tell you. The United States ranks 32 out of 38 developed nations in life expectancy according to OECD data.Thirty-second. Out of thirty-eight. That places America near the bottom of the developed world behind Turkey, Estonia, the Czech Republic, and the Slovak Republic. Only six developed nations rank lower. At the same time:• In 2024, the 10 largest pharmaceutical companies reported more than $100 billion in profits**• The industry spent over $5 billion on television advertising• Prescription drug commercials account for a significant share of evening news ads• The U.S. healthcare system remains structured around treatment, not prevention• Ultra-processed foods dominate the American dietThe United States spends more per capita on healthcare than any other developed nation.Yet we rank near the bottom in longevity. Americans deserve the complete story — not just the comfortable headline. Jillian Michaels flies solo—and holds nothing back. In this explosive episode, Jillian dismantles the media narrative surrounding the tragic shooting of Renee Goode by ICE officer Jonathan Ross. While politicians and pundits whip the public into tribal hysteria—branding people as “villains” and “terrorists”—Jillian cuts through the noise to expose the real forces fueling the violence. This isn't incompetence. It's strategy. A cynical game of political chess where human lives are expendable collateral. Then she turns her fire on Oprah Winfrey. Is obesity really genetic—or is that a comforting lie designed to keep you dependent, medicated, and profitable? Jillian breaks down the science they don't want you to hear, dismantles the “shame-free” marketing narrative, and exposes the financial conflicts of interest behind the sudden moral rebrand of weight-loss drugs. From Ozempic to Big Food to Big Pharma, this is how the system keeps you sick—and sells you the cure. No platitudes. No safe opinions. Just facts, incentives, and uncomfortable truths. Group 4 (ultraprocessed products) are industrial formulations that displace healthy diets and seriously harm health Across 104 studies, higher ultraprocessed food intake was consistently linked to poorer metabolic health, faster weight gain, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and long-term exposure to harmful additives and endocrine-disrupting chemicals Most governments rely on weak, nutrient-focused policies and voluntary programs, while industry interference and trade challenges block stronger rules that reduce availability, marketing, and additives in ultraprocessed foods Transnational food giants shape laws, research, and public opinion to protect profits, so personal control starts with awareness, cleaning your pantry, smarter swaps, limiting vegetable oils, and strong social support

You're about to learn how government approved food policies, regulatory loopholes, and corporate lobbying have quietly reshaped what's allowed in the food supply and why these decisions are driving chronic inflammation, immune dysfunction, and neurological breakdown at scale. This episode exposes how biotoxins, ultra processed ingredients, and systemic regulatory failures contribute to long COVID, POTS, mold illness, chronic fatigue, and dysautonomia and why so many people feel sick despite following official health guidance. Watch this episode on YouTube for the full video experience: https://www.youtube.com/@DaveAspreyBPR Host Dave Asprey sits down with Dr. Will Cole, a functional medicine expert who works extensively with autoimmune disease, mold illness, hormonal dysfunction, digestive disorders, and complex brain related symptoms. Dr. Cole brings years of clinical experience analyzing lab data and treating patients with biotoxin exposure, neuro immune dysregulation, and chronic fatigue patterns. Together, they connect the dots between mold exposure, post viral illness, mast cell activation, low blood pressure, and why many people with long COVID or POTS feel dizzy, inflamed, and cognitively impaired. They explain how histamine overload, electrolyte depletion, cortisol imbalance, and genetics combine to disrupt blood flow to the brain and shut down human performance. The conversation focuses on practical functional medicine and biohacking tools that help rebuild resilience at the mitochondrial and nervous system level. You'll Learn: • Why long COVID, mold illness, POTS, and chronic fatigue often share the same biological drivers • How biotoxins like mold and viral exposure dysregulate the neuro immune endocrine axis • Why low blood pressure reduces blood flow to the brain and causes brain fog and fatigue • What mast cell activation syndrome is and how histamine overload affects the body and brain • Why electrolytes, especially sodium, potassium, and magnesium, are foundational for recovery • How creatine supports brain energy, hydration, and mitochondrial function • The role of cortisol in inflammation, stress tolerance, and nervous system stability • When antihistamines and mast cell stabilizers can improve quality of life • How nicotine acts as a low dose neuroprotective compound when used carefully • The benefits and risks of methylene blue for mitochondrial and cognitive support • Why removing the trigger matters more than chasing symptoms • How a functional medicine approach rebuilds resilience instead of masking dysfunction • Why creatine absorption improves when added to hot coffee • How Danger Coffee fits into performance, hydration, and brain energy Thank you to our sponsors! - IGNITON | Go to http://igniton.com/ and use code DAVE for 15% off your first order. -TRU KAVA | Go to https://trukava.com/ and use code DAVE10 for 10% off. -Caldera + Lab | Go to https://calderalab.com/DAVE and use code DAVE at checkout for 20% off your first order. -LYMA | Go to https://lyma.sjv.io/gOQ545 and use code DAVE10 for 10% off the LYMA Laser. Jillian Michaels has stepped out of her infamous "Darth Vader" role from "The Biggest Loser" and joins Glenn to dismantle the smearing of RFK Jr., fire back at those calling Charlie Kirk a bigot, and confess that she is “terrified” of what the modern Left has become — while noting how "the Right is looking a heck of a lot more diverse these days." From the glowing horrors of Fruit Loops and GMOs to the “catastrophic quartet of Big Food, Big Ag, Big Pharma, and Big Insurance” re-engineering our food to overcome the effects of drugs like Ozempic, the pair wonder if it's time for a 12-step program for food addiction. Jillian delivers wake-up calls on the transgender movement and the “psyop” of body positivity, before reflecting on training "The Biggest Loser" contestants and the vital role of personal responsibility and escaping victimhood. She describes the vaccine debate as a “red herring,” and Glenn breaks down his stance on gay marriage, MAHA, and what the liberals of his generation got right.
