Generous Business Owner
Gunnar Johnson: They'll Know You By Your Love

Generous Business Owner

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 11, 2023 42:02

In this episode, Jeff and Gunnar discuss: Learning Biblical generosity and stewardship. Making your business your church. Building a culture of honor and treating everyone with respect. Radical generosity and loving boundaries.   Key Takeaways: God's word is accurate, true, and transcendent over time, culture, and generations. Be unapologetically evangelistic in all that you do. God will guide your hand and lead your path. There are people who wouldn't walk into a church but do want to know Jesus. Not all Christians fit into the current, modern stereotype. Christ's disciples were known as Sons of Thunder, they too were strong, working type men. Every day God wakes us up and asks us “How are you going to trust me today?” It is up to us to listen to what He is telling us.   "There's a lot of great Kingdom opportunities out there. The trick is to have your antennas up and listen to the voice of God for the day-to-day interactions, of what's God calling me to in this quarter, that season, and this day. You never know what opportunities God's going to send across your day." —  Gunnar Johnson About Gunnar Johnson: Gunnar Johnson was recently named Vice-President of Mission Investment for Youth for Christ on February 15, 2023. In this role, he oversees the marketing team and the financial development department. He is also an entrepreneur who has had 5 businesses and currently is the Founder/ Owner of Bigfoot Drywall and Paint which he founded in 2018. He has a long history of being in ministry as a pastor, speaker, and author.Gunnar and his wife Missy are high school sweethearts and have been married since 1996. They live in Monument Colorado with their dog Emmy. They have been blessed with two daughters who are now in their twenties and a son who is finishing up high school. For fun, Gunnar travels via a Harley Davidson Electra Glide or a Kawasaki KLR 650 adventure bike every day the roads are not icy. During the winter he is exploring the mountains as a snow skier. Laughter is the salt of life and he lives with a focus on seizing the day for Kingdom impact. Connect with Gunnar Johnson:Website: https://www.bigfootconstruction.org/Youth for Christ: https://yfc.net/  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnsongunnar/  Connect with Jeff Thomas: Website: https://www.arkosglobal.com/Book: https://www.arkosglobal.com/trading-upEmail: jeff.thomas@arkosglobal.comTwitter: https://twitter.com/ArkosGlobalAdv Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/arkosglobal/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/arkosglobaladvisorsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/arkosglobaladvisors/

When nine-year-old, Emmarie moves to Monument, Colorado, she's nervous. She worries about living in a new place, and making new friends. But Emmarie's not there long before she meets the best friend she's ever had, a boy named Harrison. The two spend three years playing and laughing together until Harrison receives some bad news: his family is moving to California. Emmarie is heartbroken, as she tries to cope with life without Harrison until one day, he sends her a sign that she's not alone. A sign that she will never forget. Welcome to Hometown Paranormal where everything is fake and nothing is real, but every hometown gets its own paranormal story. Thank you to Franke for nominating Monument, Colorado for today's story. As a reminder, Hometown Paranormal consists of fictional stories and characters, and only the name of the town/state are real. Any resemblance to actual people or events is coincidental and unintentional. This story is inspired by some true-stories written about in the book, "Mysteries of the Cosmic Joker" by Kathryn Walker from the "Unsolved" book series. It is a junior fiction book, and great for kids. I highly recommend you check it out. I encourage you to follow me on Instagram: @Hometown.Paranormal and leave me a message about a town you'd like to see featured on the podcast. If you'd like to read more stories -- paranormal or otherwise -- written by Kristin, visit her website: https://kristinkozlowskiwrites.wordpress.comAnd as always, thank you for putting Hometown Paranormal on the map!

“Where there is no hope, it is incumbent on us to invent it.” -Albert Camus   I’m so xcited about this T&T Open Mic session because we are finally discussing a topic I have been waiting to unpack for a while, those experiencing homelessness. In times like these, we have more people than ever experiencing homelessness or are one paycheck away from being in that position. This is a very real reality and it’s something that anyone of us could face at any time. Today I sit down with Tyg Taylor, the Founder and Executive Director of Wholly Kicks. Wholly Kicks is a 501(c)(3)that supports those experiencing homelessness and economic disparity in North Aurora, Colorado and surrounding communities.  Wholly Kicks provides new shoes, love, encouragement and mentoring to those living on the street, in the neighborhood, and in the public-school system. Tyg is a long-time pastor (over 28 years) and left his church to move to the heart of Aurora to not just help a community in need, but genuinely be a part of it. He knew it was important to be amongst the community he wanted to serve, so he moved in and established Wholly Kicks. Tyg has an incredible story of loss, triumph, and hope. He breakdown so many pieces around homelessness, including language, understanding, approaching someone in that situation, and more. I just wish I would have had this convo years ago (like ALL the open mics!!). Empathy and understanding are at the base of a better future. This cast is really for anyone and everyone, we all need to understand each other more and the sooner we do, the sooner we can get to a more peaceful space. We don’t often get to walk in each other’s shoes, but if we can have a conversation and listen, we’ll at minimum be reminded that we are all human, seeking many of the same things: safety, shelter, love, and support. Home really is where the heart is. Broaden your perspective and extend kindness- always.   Tyg”er” Taylor is the founder and Executive Director of Wholly Kicks, a 501(c)(3) that supports those experiencing homelessness and economic disparity in North Aurora, Colorado and surrounding communities.  Wholly Kicks provides new shoes, love, encouragement and mentoring to those living on the street, in the neighborhood, and in the public-school system.  For 28 years, Tyg lead an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America congregation in Monument Colorado and spent much of his time working among those living on the street in Colorado Springs. In January of 2019 he moved into the diverse neighborhood of North Aurora to live a new season of life on “mission.”  Tyg now “works” as a street pastor along the Colfax Corridor, filling his days with interactions with those whom he loves most in the world.   Tyg”er” is a creator of fun cocktails, a cooker of well plated food, a grunty lifter of things CrossFit, a teacher of street things,  a so-so theologian, and at least a few other things.   WHOLLY KICKS WHO WE ARE: We are here not for income, but for outcome Wholly Kicks is a non-profit organization whose presence in Aurora, Colorado, and the Denver Metro area, exists for the purpose of “walking with” those in impoverished areas or those at risk of or, experiencing homelessness. Through the distribution of new shoes and socks, the focus of Wholly Kicks is to mentor and build relationships in “walking with” individuals who for varied reasons, find themselves experiencing economic disparity. https://whollykicks.org @WhollyKicks Connect with T&T: IG: @TurmericTequila Facebook: @TurmericAndTequila Website: www.TurmericAndTequila.com   Host: Kristen Olson IG: @Madonnashero Tik Tok: @Madonnashero Email: Info@KOAlliance.com Website: www.KOAlliance.com
