Listeners of True Consequences that love the show mention: love lydia,The True Consequences podcast is an exceptional true crime podcast that delves into New Mexico's unsolved and solved crimes. Hosted by Eric Carter-Landin, a former Child Protective Services worker and survivor of his baby brother's unresolved death, this podcast brings a unique perspective to the genre. With a focus on advocating for justice and shining a light on cases that may have otherwise gone untold, The True Consequences is both engaging and impactful.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is Eric's compassionate approach to storytelling. He truly cares about the victims and their families, and this shines through in his interviews and research. His ability to humanize the victims allows listeners to connect on a deeper level and truly understand the impact these crimes have had on individuals and communities. Additionally, Eric's insider perspective as a former CPS worker adds a layer of insight into the systemic issues surrounding child protection and the criminal justice system.
Furthermore, The True Consequences stands out for its coverage of cases that haven't made major headlines. Eric goes above and beyond to bring attention to lesser-known cases from New Mexico or the Southwest region. This dedication to telling stories that may have been overlooked by mainstream media is commendable and provides an opportunity for justice to be sought in cases that desperately need it.
While there aren't many negative aspects to highlight about this podcast, some listeners may find the personal banter between Eric and his co-hosts distracting or unnecessary. However, it can also serve as a way to lighten the mood when discussing such heavy subject matter.
In conclusion, The True Consequences podcast is an incredible true crime podcast that goes beyond sensationalism and focuses on true advocacy for victims. Eric's storytelling abilities combined with his dedication to seeking justice make for an engaging listen that will leave you wanting more. Whether you're from New Mexico or not, this podcast offers important insights into unsolved crimes while shedding light on systemic issues within our society.

Dione Begay was born on March 28th, 1975. She was the eldest of six children and is described by her sister Christine as having a positive perspective on life and a witty sense of humor which is missed by her loved ones. Dione was beautiful, vibrant, outgoing, intelligent, and family-orientated. She was a mother of four daughters and had unique, close relationships with her entire family. Dione had several tribal connections via her parents, Debbie and Laffie Begay. Dione's mother Debbie is part of the Dakotas ‘Yankton' and ‘Arikara' tribe, and her father, the ‘Navajo' and ‘Dine' tribe. As a Native American woman, Dione Begay is one of many Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women in New Mexico who is yet to receive justice, despite the brutality inflicted upon her and the obvious circumstances of the crime. Her family's pleas for help have also continued to be ignored. Angels' Voices Silenced No More is a non-profit organization that raises funds to help families in New Mexico who are fighting for justice pay for: TherapyFuneral expensesDNA TestingPrivate InvestigationsAwareness campaigns and moreToday I am joined by Navigating Advocacy and we are bringing you a 35 year old cold case that needs justice. Check out my friends Whitney and Melissa at: https://navigatingadvocacy.com/Tyra Perry's case becomes the focal point of "Action Oriented Advocacy," shedding light on her life, the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, and the subsequent murder investigation. The narrative reveals contradictory statements, potential suspects, and the passage of time that has left the case unsolved for 35 years. Despite challenges and limited media coverage, the group tells the importance of not forgetting victims like Tyra Perry and others impacted by violence in Albuquerque. The story then describes advocacy groups' efforts, like the New Mexico Crusaders for Justice, and their collaboration in organizing a "honk and wave" event to draw attention to victims of violence and demand justice and change. The event's success in bringing together over 60 people, including family members of other victims, underscores the commitment of these advocates to seek resolution and raise awareness about the impact of violence on their communities. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/4347262/advertisement

Hey True Advocates. It's me, Eric Carter Landin, and before we get into the episode, I wanted to give you some context into why we decided to cover this. A lot of people were talking about the June 15th, 2023 Supreme Court decision on Haaland vs Brackeen case which upheld the Indian Child Welfare Act. ICWA is a very important legislation that is related to the sovereignty of the First -Nations Jackie and I were talking one day and she had expressed to me that she wanted to really dive into why the Indian Child Welfare Act was so important to upholding sovereignty for native tribes, and of course, I immediately agreed. I want to thank Jackie Moranty for researching and writing this script. But I also wanted to just set the context because this episode is a little bit different from most of the episodes that we do, but it is advocacy related and it does affect New Mexico.I'm happy that ICWA was upheld by the Supreme Court. It was the right decision. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/4347262/advertisement

Hey true advocate,It's me, Eric Carter-Landin, and today we're gonna be talking about a case that has a resolution to it already. Now, oftentimes I will cover a case that has a resolution to it, when it makes sense, and when it is something that illustrates a legal complexity or a legal issue in New Mexico that I thought was either interesting or pertinent This case that we're gonna cover today is somewhat related to my baby brother Jacob Landin's case, and I'm not gonna go into that right now because I want to tell you the story of Mike Snyder. First, I want you to hear all about who he was and what happened to him. Before we get into the legal complexities and all of the things that may or may not be connected to my brother's case. But hopefully, I have your attention now., I don't want this to be diluting Mike Snyder's story in any way. The connection isn't really that deep. It just has to do with the law and the way it's being applied. But, Mike's story deserves to stand on its own. So I want to give him the due respect that he deserves, and his family deserves. Today I'm going to tell you about one of the most significant events in New Mexico's history. The Pueblo Revolt. While the Pueblo Revolt didn't permanently drive the Spanish out of New Mexico, it was successful in ending years of cruelty and exploitation of the Pueblo people by Spanish settlers. There had been several uprisings before the Revolt, but they had only succeeded in furthering the abuse. The Pueblo Revolt gave the Tribes autonomy and freedom. The Pueblo Revolt References:Link 1. Today I am bringing you another family interview. This case is tragic, and it deals with addiction and murder so listener discretion is advised. Some names have been omitted or changed to protect the integrity of the investigation. All the music on today's episode was written and produced by the victim in today's story Zachariah Juwaun Shorty. It's important to note that we reached out to Farmington PD, Navajo Nation PD, the FBI, DOJ, and the State Police for records related to this case and we were either ignored or denied any records on Zach's case.https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100030412008026https://www.youtube.com/@isol8ed922/videos

Faith In Action. Part 7.This will be the final episode on the murder of Father Reynaldo Rivera. There were several twists and turns over the first years of the investigation and the police were overwhelmed by all the information and the leads that took them from New Mexico to New York, Arizona, and Montana. Some leads made no sense and others seemed fairly solid, and while no arrests were made, you can see that it wasn't because the police were letting the case slide. Every lead had to be followed and they were.Check out Gone Cold.Check out Jackie's show! Thanks to Alex from Dos Spookquenos & Jt from Brew Crime. Get tickets to the liveshow here.
The entire city of Santa Fe was frenzied. Citizens of Santa Fe no longer felt safe. The peaceful, beautiful city surrounded by mountains, now seemed ominous. Even dangerous. No one went out at night anymore, and no one talked with strangers. Clergy from all over the state were on their guard. Many of them wouldn't go out to minister unless they were sure where they were going and who they were talking to. Gone were the days of priests dropping everything to perform their ministry to strangers.Editorials in the papers and news reports reflected the urgency that the people of Santa Fe felt around the death of Father Reynaldo. People demanded justice. The Archdiocese was also putting pressure on law enforcement to solve this crime. Police were investigating every lead, even those that seemed false or outlandish, and they felt like they were chasing their tails.Save 10% on your Crime Con UK ticket using code "Consequences" Promo: Crime and Crime AgainSign this petition for social media companies to serve up missing posters in the algorithm.Come and see me and my friends from True Crime Bulls**t, Crimelines, Already Gone, True Crime Cases w/ Lanie
On August 5, 1982, Father Reynaldo left St. Francis Cathedral to meet a man who called himself Michael Carmello at the rest stop on La Bajada Hill. He was reported missing the following morning when he failed to return to the Cathedral.- An aerial search of the area was conducted on August 7, but Officer Eric Lucero and pilot Gary Aycock had flown toward Cochiti, along the highway. They were looking for Father Rivera's car, not his body. They went towards Waldo where Father Geier told them that Michael Carmello's grandfather had a ranch. Father Rivera's body was located on the other side of the highway, north of where the aerial search was conducted.Promo LA Not So ConfidentialWritten and Researched by Jackie Moranty check out her show Cause of Death: 100 Seconds to Midnight.Tickets for the live show on March 5th
During the 80s, six priests, including Father Rivera were murdered across the Southwestern US and Montana. For many years, it was suspected that their deaths could have all been linked in some way.I want to talk about the possibilities and the myths surrounding the connections between Father Reynaldo and these five other priests. There are distinct differences, not only in miles but in who these men were, who they claimed to be, and the connections that seem to get thinner and thinner as one digs deeper and deeper into Father Reynaldo's murder investigation. These men were all greatly valued in their communities as ministers of the faith. Their parishioners feel their loss to this day. Please keep this in mind, as I tell these stories. This episode was written by Jackie Moranty. Today's promo: Twisted and Uncorked. During the investigation into Father Reynaldo's murder, several letters were sent to various government agencies, the Archdiocese, and a few Catholic churches that claimed that Father Reynaldo was murdered because he had something to do with the civil wars in Latin America. Several civil wars had broken out in Central and South America during the 60s. These wars lasted well into the 90s, and Catholic priests who were ministering to various Indigenous peoples in those areas were put in the middle of those civil wars. These wars were very much about the rich against the poor. While the rich had backing from the US government, the poor had missionary priests who were only armed in faith, many of which would become martyrs for staying with the people. Even if they couldn't protect those people, they ministered to them. I've done some very intensive research into Father Reynaldo and his career, nothing that I've seen or read has connected him to the civil wars in any way, but there are those out there who believe in the conspiracy theories that were created by these letters. After attending seminary in Ohio, Father Reynaldo's career was spent entirely in New Mexico. He was not a missionary priest. While there is a very low probability that he had anything to do with the unrest in Central America, every lead had to be followed.
True Consequences WebsiteThis episode was written by Jackie Moranty check out here show here. Father Reynaldo and his brothers in the church were at Mass where the service was just ending when a call came into the rectory. Father Gerard Geier answered the call. It was around 8:00 in the evening. The caller was a man who Geier estimated to be in his 30s. He told Father Geier that he needed a priest. His voice was calm and deliberate, and . . . . convincing. Neither Father Geier nor Father Reynaldo had any reason to think that these calls were nefarious in any way. This is part 2 of the Father Rivera Story. The subsequent parts will be longer than the initial two. Sheree Warren left her job in Salt Lake City on a mild October evening in 1985. She told a coworker she was headed to meet her estranged husband, Charles Warren, at a car dealership. But she never made it, Sheree vanished. When her car mysteriously surfaced weeks later, hundreds of miles away in Las Vegas, no one could say how it got there. When a young mother disappears under unexplained circumstances, police always turn suspicious eyes towards the husband. And although there was distrust around Charles Warren, he wasn't the only suspect when Sheree went missing. She also had a boyfriend, a former cop named Cary Hartmann, who lived a sinister double life. Season three follows two suspects– men who both raised suspicion for investigators. But with two strong persons of interest with competing facts and evidence, it muddied the murder investigation. This season, host Dave Cawley, digs into the lives of these two men, the details of the case and examines the intersections between domestic abuse and sexual violence. The COLD team seeks to answer the question: what really happened to Sheree Warren?
