October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month and today, Friday, October 15th, is National Mammogram Awareness Day. Taking care of your body is a form of self-love and self-care. Check out the resource links below on how you can receive (early) breast cancer screenings.I'm honored to have my longtime friend Breanna Gastaldi (she/her) as my guest on the show. Bre has a perspective of intimately experiencing cancer within her family and somewhat within herself. During the pandemic, Bre decided to start early screenings for breast cancer. Earlier this year, a spot was detected on her breast and Bre ended up having surgery to remove pre-cancerous cells. Bre was 33 years old when this happened. Luckily, Bre is okay, and is thankful that she decided to get early screening vs waiting 10 more years to start this process. This episode is important for Bre and I because we want ya'll to be proactive about your health and preventative care, particularly when it comes to cancer screening. If you have health insurance, preventative screenings like mammograms should be covered, but if not or if you don't have insurance, there are organizations that can pay for these services. Check out the  National Breast Cancer Foundation for more information. I want to thank Bre again for being a guest on my show. And that means you will be reducing the amount of processed food you are eating too when watching your sugar intake. INCREASE FIBER. Most of us are not eating enough fiber. Fiber is critical for our gut and overall health. Aim for 35 grams per day by eating foods like vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts, and whole grains like brown rice. PAIR PROTEIN and FAT WITH EVERY MEAL. Protein and fat is essential for rebuilding and healing your body. Some good protein sources include fish, meat, poultry, and eggs. Nuts, seeds, and legumes are good plant-based protein sources along with containing healthy fats. These help balance the blood sugar effects of carbohydrates. Keep in mind that fats help you absorb the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. CONSUME MULTIVITAMIN. You want to supplement your nutrients with a multivitamin plus fish oil (controls inflammation). CONTROL STRESS. Managing stress is an essential lifestyle trait your want to adopt. You can enjoy meditation, yoga, deep breathing; whatever helps YOU to manage your stress. SUPPORT YOUR GUT. Eat fermented foods along with fiber and probiotics to keep your gut healthy. This keeps your immune system working well. REDUCE TOXINS. Watch what you expose yourself to including cleaners, cosmetics, shampoos/conditioners, lotions, etc. Also, drink good water and high-quality food sources. Know what you use and where it comes from. INTENTIONAL MOVEMENT. Fitness keeps your body strong and resilient by improving insulin sensitivity, balancing estrogen and maintaining a healthy body weight. Studies show a correlation between regular exercise and a reduction in breast cancer. SLEEP. SLEEP. SLEEP. Make sure you are getting your 7-9 hours of sleep per night. And realize you cannot make up for sleep lost. You don't get your sleep back. So make it a priority. Put yourself first. Take care of you. Guard your body against breast cancer. "Live. Love. IMPACT!
