Brian, Bryant, and Phil talk about one of the vilest topics in Magic: the Gathering: Netdecking
Today's topic is a doozy! If you've been into card gaming for any length of time, you most likely heard of the term netdecking. In fact, we started talking a little bit about this topic in Episode #42 when we were talking about Marvel Champions and why we enjoyed that game. We did say that we would dive deeper into the topic of netdecking, and here is that episode. If you've heard of the term netdecking, you may be familiar with its negative connotation in the world of card gaming, and we think that it is garbage
Featuring: Ammosart, Ashgar, Belghast, Kodra, Tamrielo, and Thalen Tonight we have a bit of an odd show to usher in sleep theft weekend. First we talk about Bel's descent into madness… that is getting super engaged in Guild Wars 2. He spent the last week chain running World Bosses and talks about how freaking fun that is. From there we talk about some of the long grind systems and how there are multiple paths for different playstyles to reach the same ultimate goal. From there we dust off a topic that has been sitting on the list for a long while, that was originally inspired by Warhammer 40,000 but applies to a lot of different games. Largely we discuss how the most hardcore players represent the smallest portion of the community, but also are the ones that set the pace that everyone else is forced to live up to. This covers a wide swath of topics from Magic the Gathering to MMO Chain Pulling to even the death of New World. It is one wild ride of a show. Topics Discussed Bel's further descent into Guild Wars 2 The Joy of Chain Running World Bosses The Good Long Grinds Catering to the minority in games How the most competitive players set the rules of the community Warhammer 40,000 FFXIV and MMO Chain Pulling Magic the Gathering Netdecking Missing Jank Magic Destiny 2 Death of Skill Based Matchmaking New World and how catering to a minority is killing game Missing the innocence of being able to be bad

As more of clan selection plus trickles out, a new Angel Feather card was revealed that allows your rear-guards to be protected from retire effects. This immediately was taken upon by the community to think "Hey, what happens when you call the 70,000 power Valkerion that normally auto-retires onto that protected circle?" Not a whole lot, unfortunately, but what if it did? As well, the guys (with James in tow) talk about the benefits (or lack thereof) with netdecking. Also, it's our last episode of the decade! How do you feel about netdecking? Are you mad as hell that people are getting their deck ideas from the internet?! Do you have the spirit of Howard Beale prodding you to the window to scream, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take this netdecking any more!" Or... do you feel that netdecking is simply a good tool for building decks? Getting decks lists or ideas from the web is often a topic of discussion, and it came up on discussion boards recently when Adam Styborski wrote about what the data from EDHRec shows about card usage. Check out his article . There are cards that are obvious inclusions when we are building a commander deck. Then there are those cards that we maybe don't naturally think about without some online help. Andy and Kyle take a look at a few cards in each color that maybe aren't the most used, but that are hard to deal with cards and come up frequently enough in netdeck references that you probably see them regularly. Andy then gives us some good ways to deal with those cards, so that we can all be ready to deal with netdecked ideas. We're super grateful that Home lets us use his sweet beats. This episode's intro/outro music is from Home's Resting State album, track # 4. Look up his tunes on . Big shout out to Mikey Patch for all our art work! .

This week it’s a deck tech about the Presence of Gond/Midnight Guard combo deck that took down the last pauper challenge. After that, we discuss the strangely contentious idea that people look at decklists online and get chewed out for “Netdecking” and why that might not be the worst. Rounding out our discussions is a …
