In today's installment of Stand Up, Tim and Mary take on a batch of headlines that point to the continuing global delusion of peace and unity. Every Christian should understand by now that what is going on in the Middle East was never about establishing a state, but destroying one. It is so obvious to so many and yet here we are, with the US and many other nations just deluding themselves around the clock. We discuss Tony Blair's role in Gaza, a clear delusion. We talk about the disintegration of Portland and why it will never likely improve, but spread; we look at Communion America, a great delusion for the church; and Trump's deal with Pfizer, delusion that began in 2020 and never really goes away. Why would he make a deal with such a corrupt and wicked corporation? And still another abortion pill goes to market. It just gets more wicked out there, but hallelujah, we have God's Word: blessed is that one who doesn't walk, stand, or sit with the wicked (Psalm 1) Homeward, saints! Welcome back to the Homeward podcast. I am honored to share today's conversation with the incredibly wise + paradigm-shifting David Bedrick. David Bedrick, JD, Dipl. PW, is a teacher, counselor, and attorney. He grew up in a family marked by violence. While his father's brutality was physical and verbal, his mother's denial and gaslighting had its own covert power. This formative context introduced David early to the etiology of shame and instilled an urge to unshame. Professionally, he was on the faculty for the University of Phoenix and the Process Work Institute in the U.S. and Poland and is the founder of the Santa Fe Institute for Shame-based Studies where he trains therapists, coaches and healers and offers workshops for individuals to further their own personal development. David writes for Psychology Today and is the author of three books: Talking Back to Dr. Phil: Alternatives to Mainstream Psychology and Revisioning Activism: Bringing Depth, Dialogue, and Diversity to Individual and Social Change. His new book is You Can't Judge a Body by Its Cover: 17 Women's Stories of Hunger, Body Shame and Redemption. Today's conversation serves as its own masterclass in unshaming. You'll hear David help me tease out my own inner critic and walk us through the unshaming process to find the flower (the gift) in our pain. I can't wait for you to listen. Welcome back to the Homeward podcast. In today's conversation I'm sharing what I learned over the weekend after a pretty serious hack attempt on an old account, and what it opened for me as a lesson underneath. Plus, I talk truth about the words: if the dream is in you, it's for you. How it isn't just a nice phrase, how it's the ultimate truth, and why you must trust that knowing in you + walk toward it with all your power. Nobody can do it like you can. Behold, the return of Lieutenant Commander Rebecca Frost, noted Space Show fan Admiral Kerry Jackson, Commander Robert Neal, and special guest Jake Black as they resume their voyage through all things Star Trek! In this episode, we continue into season 7 of The Next Generation with episodes Inheritance, Parallels, The Pegasus, and Homeward.
Amy Baik Lee has written that in every place her life has taken her, "there have been hints of beauty and great knocks of mercy that have called to me from beyond my surroundings, always speaking of a King and Friend and Father whose presence is truly Home.” That sense of longing, those clues that perhaps we were made for a different world, make their way out in every thing Amy writes, and especially in her book, This Homeward Ache: How Our Yearning for the Life to Come Spurs on Our Life Today. In this episode, a replay from 2023, Amy and Jonathan Rogers talk about homeward longing, the idea of Sehnsucht, and the importance of writing in community.Support the show: https://therabbitroom.givingfuel.com/memberSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Heads up on this one: Tony accidentally recorded this on the wrong microphone, so his audio is a bit muffled. Still better than our early episodes, but not peak performance. Are you ready for the worst sequel movie we've ever seen? A movie where we legitimately wanted the main character to die? A movie that killed Allan-a-Dale!? You've got to listen to the end to get that last joke. This is called “foreshadowing.” Our theme music is Homeward by Scott Buckley. Find us on the Internet! Finally, we watch a movie that asks the big question: how should a framed portrait of your arch nemesis be displayed in your home? Probably other questions were asked, something about Sherlock Holmes and the Disney renaissance and politicians being replaced by robots, but I think we can all agree that this is the important one. Join us for an insightful chat with Jim Burns, founder of Homeward and author of A Student's Guide to Sexual Integrity: God's Plan for Sex and Your Body. Jim shares his wisdom on discussing sexual integrity from a Christian perspective, offering guidance for parents and grandparents to support young people in navigating sexuality with faith and moral clarity. We tackle the challenges of talking to teens about sexuality, and Jim offers practical, do-able advice: frequent, brief conversations at home, starting early (though it's never too late!). This approach helps normalize these discussions, making parents trusted sources on sensitive topics. Jim also highlights the important role grandparents can play, offering a safe, approachable presence for kids facing tough questions. I'm giving away a copy of Jim's new book.
