The Last Continent is about Fourecks, a country legally distinct from Australia because Sir Terry says so--and because it's a country of original people and accidental new inhabitants, rather than colonial powers. Also it hasn't rained for a very long time.Pratchat is a podcast from Splendid Chaps Productions in which hosts Elizabeth Flux and Ben McKenzie have embarked on a six (ish) year mission to read every Terry Pratchett novel*, one a month, and discuss them with special guests. Elizabeth Flux (Pratchat Library Captain) is a freelance writer with a focus on film and pop culture, and previous editor of Voiceworks magazine. She has been published in Film Ink, Metro, Junkee, The Lifted Brow, Spook and Kill Your Darlings and can be found tweeting terrible puns @ElizabethFlux. Pratchat is Elizabeth's first podcast.Ben McKenzie is a comedian, writer and game designer. His work includes the VR game Table of Tales: The Crooked Crown and time travel radio comedy Night Terrace (as heard on BBC Radio 4 Extra). He also teaches creative writing for 100 Story Building and comedy writing for the Australian College of the Arts. Ben tweets at @McKenzie_Ben, his favourite dinosaur is Stegosaurus, and his favourite element is helium. Have a surprise bonus mini-episode of Pratchat! We've mentioned Night Terrace a few times, but not gone into too much detail. So, outside of our usual schedule, Liz asks Ben all about this time travel radio comedy series from Splendid Chaps Productions. What's it about? Who are the main characters? How would they fit into the Discworld? You'll also get a bit of behind the scenes info and hear some excerpts from the first two seasons. If it sounds good to you, hop on over to the Night Terrace crowdfunding campaign before November 22, and help get a third season made! You'll hear excerpts from the Night Terrace episodes "Sound & Führer", "Moving House" (both by John Richards), "Time of Death", "Ancient History" (both by Ben McKenzie), "Sense & Susceptibility" (also by John Richards) and "The Outsourcing" (by David Ashton). Anastasia Black is played by Jackie Woodburne; Eddie Jones by Ben McKenzie; Sue Denholm by Petra Elliott; the Vraxnols by Toby Truslove and previous Pratchat guest, Cal Wilson (episodes one and three); and Carole by Cate Wolfe. We hope you enjoyed this little diversion! If you want more excerpts and info about Night Terrace, look up the hashtag #NightTerrace on social media, or visit nightterrace.com. If you listen to the series, you may also enjoy the companion podcast On the Terrace.
In this very special On the Terrace, Night Terrace and Neighbours star Jackie Woodburne joins host Vaya Pashos and Night Terrace co-star Ben McKenzie to talk about being Anastasia Black and Susan Kennedy, audio as a medium and how good the food was during recording. (No, seriously.) Plus a few snippets also from co-star Petra … Continue reading On the Terrace: It’s Jackie Woodburne! →
In episode 25, Elizabeth, Ben and Noongar writer and poet Claire G. Coleman go back to the early days of the Discworld to Granny Weatherwax's debut in 1986's Equal Rites. Drum Billet, wizard, travels to the village of Bad Ass high in the Ramtop mountains, where at the moment of his death he hands over his wizard's staff to the newborn eighth son of an eighth son. But Eskarina Smith isn't the eighth son of anyone, and it falls to the witch Granny Weatherwax to watch over her. As Esk comes into her powers, Granny realises she needs training in the ways of wizardry lest she pose a danger to everyone around her. So the pair set off to distant Ankh-Morpork on a quest to enrol Esk as the first ever female student of Unseen University... Equal Rites is a book of contradictions: it doesn't feel quite like the Discworld, but it's vital and beautifully written. It's not full of jokes or footnotes, but is consistently funny. And even after more than thirty years, it feels entirely relevant. Do you recognise Esk's struggle? Did Granny feel like Granny yet? And why do think it took so long for Pratchett to revisit some of these characters? Use the hashtag #Pratchat25 on social media to join the conversation and tell us your thoughts! Guest Claire G. Coleman's novels are the multi-award winning Terra Nullius, and her new work The Old Lie. She also writes short fiction, poetry and non-fiction and has been published in numerous publications. You can find her on Twitter and Instagram as @clairegcoleman, or visit her web site, clairegcoleman.com, for more info. Next month we're joined by the Director of the Wheeler Centre for Books, Writing and Ideas, Michael Williams, as we celebrate Hogswatch by discussing - what else? - Hogfather! We’re recording on November 13, so get your questions in by then via social media using the hashtag #Pratchat26. You'll find the full notes and errata for this episode on our web site. And if you enjoy Ben’s work here on Pratchat, please consider the Kickstarter campaign for Night Terrace season three - as endorsed by Neil Gaiman!

This is Ben McKenzie Co-Producer of Night Terrace. Night Terrace is an original time travel audio comedy starring Jackie Woodburne as Dr Anastasia Black. Anastasia just wanted a quiet retirement, so she's not exactly thrilled when her suburban terrace house spontaneously starts to travel through time and space. Even worse, she's stuck with uninvited houseguests Eddie and Sue. Together they'll try to get along in the face of alien invasions, hideous monsters, and an inability to put the kettle on without the house appearing somewhere new. But will it ever take them home? Night Terrace is a Splendid Chaps production created by David Ashton, Petra Elliott, Ben McKenzie, John Richards, and Lee Zachariah. There are two seasons of eight 28-minute episodes, which in 2019 had their radio debut on BBC Radio 4 Extra. We've also produced numerous shorter mini-episodes and a special episode recorded in front of a live audience. This episode is one of our mini-episodes and it'd called “Habitat of Mushrooms.” In typical Night Terrace style it features our housemates arriving in a very strange place and quickly getting into a lot of trouble. Thanks for listening.

I’ve been known for years as a connecting bridge between genres, and last Saturday at Aglomerat Club I was challenged to play one of such crazy sets, from 120 to 140 BPM. I wouldn’t agree to play a straight Psytrance set anymore as I’ve moved forward, but it was a challenge indeed for me as a DJ to guide the crowd through a few music genres throughout the set so the curiosity won. Here’s my recorded live set for you, almost half an hour longer than planned. It’s one of those sets that may seem slow-paced at first, but by the end, people were screaming for more. ▶ Full interactive tracklisting: http://daniellesden.com/blog/all/night-terrace-set/ ▶ Follow Daniel Lesden and Rave Podcast: Info, tour dates and more: www.instagram.com/DanielLesden www.facebook.com/DanielLesden www.twitter.com/DanielLesden www.youtube.com/DanielLesdenOfficial www.telegram.me/DanielLesden www.vk.com/DanielLesden

We don't know how to pronounce it, and we don't know if it's a planet, but we do know it's Matt Smith's least popular episode. We try to find some shine on The Rings of Akhaten with guest Lee Zachariah (The Bazura Project; Night Terrace)
It's Doctor Who's least popular Doctor in one of its least popular seasons, and introducing possibly its least popular companion. We face the terror of Terror of the Vervoids, with special guest Ben McKenzie (Splendid Chaps, Night Terrace).
