Since our last conversation, Jesse's been hard at work restoring unique properties across Washington and beyond, bringing a mix of rustic charm and modern convenience to places you might never expect. From fixing up a yacht that doubles as an office to building bridges—literally—at his Pacific Dunes property, Jesse shares how he's redefining what hospitality can look like. To kick things off, Jesse updates us on his famous yacht, which he uses as a floating office. After a complete restoration, it's still going strong, and I even took a trip to Poulsboo for some relaxation. As Jesse says, it's a labor of love—a new engine, a rebuilt transom, and the whole deal. It's clear that for him, hospitality isn't just about running hotels or lodges. It's about creating experiences; sometimes, that means turning a boat into your workspace! What's Happening at Pacific Dunes? Scott's questions about Jesse's Pacific Dunes property, and Jesse is more than happy to give us the scoop. They've been adding to the "vintage vibe" of the place with a new coffee shop, a gift shop, and even a beer garden. Plus, there's that bridge Scott had to ask about. It's not just a metaphor—Jesse and his team really built a bridge to give guests easy access to the beachfront. Instead of a long walk, it's a quick 5-minute stroll to get your toes in the sand. Details like these make Pacific Dunes more than just a place to stay. Jesse's vision for the property is all about offering guests more than just a room—it's about giving them an unforgettable experience. Whether sipping coffee at the new shop or enjoying a local beer in the garden, it's clear that Pacific Dunes is becoming a destination in its own right. The Rise of Tiny Homes and Glamping But it's not just about yachts and bridges. Jesse's been hard at work expanding the accommodations at Pacific Dunes, too. They've added tiny homes, glamping tents, and more RV stalls, making it the perfect spot for group events like weddings. And it's not just about sleeping under the stars—guests can rent out an entire "glamping village," combining the best of both worlds: the comfort of private lodging with the charm of an outdoor adventure . Growing Beyond Washington State Hearing about JET Hospitality's growth is one of the most exciting parts of the conversation. Jesse shares that they've expanded beyond Washington into states like Wyoming, Utah, and Idaho, with 10 locations across five states. But don't worry, Washington State still holds a special place in Jesse's heart, and he hints that there are always new projects on the horizon in the Evergreen State. Jesse's passion for restoring and revitalizing old properties is contagious. Whether he's turning a forgotten motor inn into a boutique roadside stop or transforming a historic haunted hotel in Wyoming, he's all about preserving history while giving it a modern twist. His latest purchase, the Virginian Hotel, comes with a rich history—and a few friendly ghosts, according to Jesse! What's Next for JET Hospitality? So, what's next for Jesse and his team? Plenty. JET Hospitality is diving into new territory with its "motor inn" concept, refreshing old roadside motels and adding modern touches like electric vehicle charging stations and on-site coffee trucks. The idea is to compete with major hotel brands while offering something that feels more personal and unique. Jesse says they're not afraid to tackle projects others might shy away from, making JET Hospitality's portfolio so exciting. Connect With Jet Hospitality

Bruce Hepner, former Vice President of Tom Doak's Renaissance Golf Design, was at the forefront of many current trends in golf architecture, from the Golden Age restoration movement to the revival of the design-build method. So we figured he would have an interesting perspective on the evolution of modern golf course design. Bruce and Garrett start by chatting about Bruce's passion for music and his recent renovation of Percy Warner Golf Course, a municipal nine in Nashville. They then discuss Bruce's epoch-spanning career, touching on his work in the early 1990s with Ron Forse, his experiences on Doak projects like Pacific Dunes and Ballyneal, and his thoughts on how the golf course restoration game has changed in recent years.
This is an audio diary of my three day excursion to the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort where we played Bandon Trails, Bandon Dunes, Pacific Dunes, The Preserve & Old Macdonald. While not our favorite course on property (Grant's takes are potentially offensive) we do admire the thoughtfulness of the design and the diabolical bunkering of Tom Doak.
Today's guest is Michael Chupka, Director of Communications for Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. Michael grew up playing out of Brandermill Country Club in the Richmond, VA area. He then earned a scholarship to play his college golf at JMU. In 2007, he set off for Oregon after getting an internship at Bandon Dunes, and as fate would have, it he never left! Michael has held many key positions at the resort in the last 16 years, including Head Pro at Pacific Dunes which then led to his current role as Director of Communications for the entire operation. Michael oversees all of the great media content and press that comes out of the resort, and is closely connected with the powers that be at BDGR including the Keiser family and the golf course architects who have made their mark at Bandon. We enjoyed learning about Michael's story, and got some insight on the newly announced 19 hole par 3 course that is under construction now! Enjoy!
Hello all! Excited to chat with Kyle Franz and Mike Koprowski today about Broomsedge Golf Club and the architectural experiences or themes that will carry into this project. Kyle is now a major artery in the industry, restoring important work and building his own, but he was involved in the courses we all consider as great work. Amongst others, he was there at Barnbougle, at Pacific Dunes, The Rio Olympic Course, and Cabot Links before putting his fingerprint on Mid Pines, Pine Needles, Southern Pines, Country Club of Charleston, and more. ((We're also so excited to see Lookout Mountain))Mike has been working with Kyle since the project at Southern Pines began. As a Pinehurst native, he showed interest in the restoration, and has brought a unique skillset to the table ever since. The two have been working together on plans for Broomsedge Golf Club, a site found and purchased by Mike near Columbia, South Carolina. It's a fresh canvas with Kyle's name on it. We're looking forward to seeing it come together. With our fourth deep dive into the five 18-hole courses at Bandon Dunes, we arrive at Tom Doak's Pacific Dunes, which opened in 2001. Andy Johnson and Garrett Morrison discuss the course's intricate strategic puzzles; its use of the “sandy bowl,” the “gorse plain,” and a spectacular stretch of cliff-side land; its collection of short par 4s; and the way that Pacific Dunes, more than any other course at the resort, demands smart, precise golf. Tom Doak himself makes a cameo (16:30) to tell the story of how he discovered the portion of the property that would become the famous 13th hole. The Bandon Deep Dives are brought to you by Zero Restriction.
We've been long time fans of Andy and his work over at The Fried Egg, and when it came to potential guests to do an Eclectic 18 with, we knew Andy would deliver! On this week's MEGA pod, Todd and Brian break down their recent trip to the mecca of public golf in the United States ... Bandon Dunes. The guys break down their 7.5 rounds in 4 days, hear Todd's thoughts on his first time at Bandon, why the boys weren't so sold on Pacific Dunes, and their epically terrible, miserable day out on Old Macdonald.Although despite the rain and some travel issues, both agreed this was some of the most fun they had on a golf course. If you've ever contemplated heading out to Bandon Dunes or want to know why we would subject ourselves to the torture of the weather out there ... give it a listen.
Pacific Dunes is an experience. Everything that you read about the course makes it seem as if getting to play there is a magical experience. The greens are fantastic and the course as a whole is quite large. Michael O'Toole definitely confirms what Ted and Mike have found in their research. He shares some fantastic behind the scenes information about Pacific Dunes and gives the perfect advice for Ted as he prepares to play there next year. Mike and Ted are back and they had the pleasure and privilege of speaking with the PGA Head Professionals from two more of the Bandon Dunes courses. First they chat with Michael O'Toole of Pacific Dunes and then Jason Poll of Old Macdonald shares his story. Listen in to hear it all. Jason Poll has worked on all of the courses at Bandon Dunes and is now the head PGA Professional at Old Macdonald. One thing that most people don't know about Old Mac is that it's a template course heavily based on the designs of Charles Blair Macdonald. Both of these men have an obvious love and respect for the game of golf and more specifically for the courses they preside over. Their stories and insights are fascinating but their advice to simply enjoy the experience was brilliant. Neither Ted nor Mike can wait until they're the ones stepping onto the green at the first hole for both of these courses. It's a once in a lifetime experience that they're sure to never forget.
