This epsiode deals with domestic violence. Please take care in listening and know that if you or someone you know needs advise or help contact 1800-737 732 or 1800RESPECTIn a raw and deeply personal episode Alex 'Bunts' Bunton, a former Opal and UCCapitals big allows us in to her lived experience as a Domestic Violence “DV” victim survivor. In their final home game, the UCCaps play Perth Lynx and will sponsor the DV awareness round to help people gain a better understanding, and allow the various support services to be visible. Returning from retirement and relishing her platform to lift the lid on DV, Bunts generously shares her experience with the hope that as we talk more openly about this devastating issue, more common than people may realise, we can remove the stigma and understand what DV looks like for victims. Her hope is that as a community we are more alert, understanding and know how to help and respond. We're so grateful to Bunts for her bravery in sharing this, as she reminds us DV does not discriminate, it's complex and happens under a veil of secrecy. If you or someone you know needs advise or help contact 1800-737 732 or 1800RESPECTDon't forget to like, share and leave a review so we can get more Hoops content to you!Join us on our socials - Twitter: @TheBreezePod and IG: @shootingthebreezepod

We then update our leaderboard in the Bassett-Scarfe Realty Player of the Year award and we couldn't separate Stacy Barr and Ash Isenbarger meaning that our listeners will now vote this week to determine the winner. It's then time for a full rundown of the results in Round 9 of the West Coast Classic to wrap up the regular season We then turn our attention to our special guest and it doesn't get much better than the triple SBL MVP winning, Grand Final MVP and championship winner with the Lakeside Lightning, Ali Schwagmeyer-Belger. We obviously discuss her time in the SBL and how special of a place Lakeside will be to her for so many reasons for the platform it provided to break into the WNBL, her bond with coach Craig Mansfield and with her teammates and also the home it provided at the most challenging time in her life following the tragic loss of her sister. We also discuss Ali's journey into the WNBL firstly at the Perth Lynx and now with the Sydney Uni Flames, and how she still has goals to play in EuroLeague and the WNBA. We also get to know Ali on a more personal level and dig deep on what makes her tick and what things are most important to her, how she is so thankful to have Courtney Belger by her side and we even discuss with Ali what it was like to snatch an SBL championship away from Randy Miegel and the Mandurah Magic. It really is one of the most fascinating discussions we've had with a guest all season long on SBL Shootaround. We aren't done there, we come back and provide a full preview of this weekend's West Coast Classic finals as well thanks to Her Hoops AU.

We are planning a monster final month here on SBL Shootaround to close out 2020 to coincide with the end of the West Coast Classic, and that begins this week as the finals heats up as we announce Player of the Week, update Player of the Year and speak with the reigning MVP who is on fire. First up on SBL Shootaround for Episode 15 is a look at how the West Coast Classic is shaping up with just two rounds to go before the finals weekend and the Round 7 results and action that we saw on the weekend. It's then time to decide our Wandering Distillery Player of the Week and while our guest for this week might have been the obvious choice, she's already received a voucher this season so that meant our 2-vote getting was named the winner for Round 7. We then provide an update on the race to win the Bassett-Scarfe Realty Player of the Year award and we now have two players tied on 6 votes with two weeks remaining. It's then time to turn our focus to our guest for this week and it's the reigning SBL MVP winners, Warwick Senators superstar and the West Coast Classic's leading scorer, Stacey Barr. There's so much ground for us to cover with Stacey including her 49-point performance on Saturday and just how she feels when she gets in the zone like that. But we also discuss her remarkable career playing in the SBL, Big V and SEABL as well as her four years at the University of Idaho where she went on to become the schools' all-time three-point leader along with a host of other accomplishments. She's also had a stint in the WNBL with the Perth Lynx and we discuss her ambitions there along with having spent two years playing in the AFLW with the Fremantle Dockers as well as now moving into her teaching career full-time. SBL Shootaround then continues with a preview of Round 8 in the West Coast Classic before Randy Miegel finishes off with another story from his lifetime in basketball.
A monster episode of SBL Shootaround this week as the action heats up in the West Coast Classic as we name our Wandering Distillery Player of the Week, update the Bassett-Scarfe Realty Player of the Year and talk to two very special guests. Episode 14 of SBL Shootaround sees co-hosts Chris Pike and Randy Miegel open up by taking a look at how the West Coast Classic is shaping up after the Round 6 action and then dissect the candidates for the Wandering Distillery Player of the Week. For Round 6 the debate landed with Rockingham Flames' Christina Boag while an update was provided on the race to win the Bassett-Scarfe Realty Player of the Year from the West Coast Classic. It was then time to dissect all the action in more detail from Round 6 in the West Coast Classic before moving on to our two guests for this week. First up was Kalamunda Eastern Suns star big Jessie Edwards. We talked about her outstanding West Coast Classic so far back at home with the Eastern Suns as well as signing a full WNBL contract with the Perth Lynx for the upcoming season and how much that means to her having already been a development player previously at the Lynx and Adelaide Lightning, and spending a season playing professionally in Europe. We also discuss her time at college at the University of Minnesota, if football was ever a calling with her father Craig a 200-game WAFL player at South Fremantle and East Perth, and a Sandover Medallist, and much more. Our second guest was then Lakeside Lightning star Ash Isenbarger. We discuss her championship win back in 2018 against Randy's Mandurah Magic along with what makes Lakeside so special to her and the fact that she met her husband Jack there as well only adds to that. We also talk about Ash's time so far in the WNBL at the Lynx and Melbourne Boomers, and her desire to earn another opportunity at the top level but also an overall look at her life and ambitions. All up, it's hard not to get caught up in the infectious energy and positivity she provides. Then next up on Episode 14 is a look at Round 7 in the West Coast Classic before Randy wraps up with another famous story from his days in basketball.
Another exciting episode of SBL Shootaround this week as we provide all the latest on the West Coast Classic, announce the latest Wandering Distillery Player of the Week, update the Bassett-Scarfe Realty Player of the Year and have two very special guests. We then go in depth on all the results and ramifications from the results in Round 5 before turning our attention to this week's guests. First up is one of the greatest competitors the SBL has ever seen as we speak to 358-game veteran Jodee Sontay. We talk about her career that has seen her play with the Joondalup Wolves, East Perth Eagles, Warwick Senators and now the Cockburn Cougars. We have a fascinating discussion about her favourite coaches and teammates, how she's been able to compete at such a high level for such a long time, changes in the game over the past 20 years, what she is most proud of in her career and so much more. We then have a chat with the youngest championship winning coach in SBL history, Keegan Crawford. He took the Rockingham Flames to the 2019 SBL championship so we discuss that as well as his bond with Darcee Garbin and Ryan Petrik, and how he was ready as a 23-year-old to already take over as coach at the Flames. We talk about what Keegan has already achieved, what he wants to achieve in the future and how much basketball he is currently juggling as a Perth Lynx assistant, Coach Development Manager at Basketball WA, coaching state teams and of course, coaching Rockingham in the West Coast Classic. We then wrap up this week's show with our previews and tips for Round 6 in the West Coast Classic.

We then run through all the results in Round 4 of the West Coast Classic and give an update on the standings. It's then time for our special guest, Deanna 'Doccy' Black. With a glittering career that saw her win championships wherever she played whether it be the WNBL, in Europe or across the country in state leagues, for a 20-year stretch she was one of the finest basketballers in the country. She has now gone on to begin forging her coaching career as a championship winner in 2017 in the SBL with the Perry Lakes Hawks and she has now been appointed an assistant coach at the Perth Lynx. She also runs the basketball program at Willetton Senior High School, she is married to another former great Stephen Black and is currently pregnant with the couple's first child. We discuss all of that on this week's SBL Shootaround before then looking ahead to Round 5 in the West Coast Classic.
With just three weeks until official basketball action returns with the West Coast Classic, things are heating up on SBL Shootaround with another packed show with a special interview with a superstar from perhaps Western Australia's greatest sporting family. Basketball Writer Chris Pike and Goldfields Giants legend and two-time SBL Coach of the Year Randy Miegel are back for another episode of SBL Shootaround and we begin by looking back on last week's show where we were joined by Craig Mansfield. We then discuss the latest free agency news in the WNBL including Maddie Allen and Alex Ciabattoni signing at the Perth Lynx along with Ali Schwagmeyer joining the Sydney Uni Flames. We then take a look at the players currently in the SBL or set to play in the West Coast Classic who deserve a look in at WNBL level. It's then time for our very special guest for this episode, Melissa Marsh. We look back on her outstanding basketball career which included 266 WNBL games where she remains the all-time leader with 243 for Perth Lynx/West Coast Waves along with 267 SBL games at the Willetton Tigers. She also won four championships with Willetton which is the club closest to her heart as she discusses. Now a mother of two, Min (she explains that nickname too) talks about her desire to get back involved in basketball as a coach while also reflecting with some fascinating stories about her playing career that lasted 15 years and even saw her play a season with the Adelaide Fellas! She also discusses her famous family with her father Geoff and brothers Mitch and Shaun having played cricket for Australia, so there's that and so much more in a discussion we hope you all enjoy listening to as much as we did recording it. We finish the show by looking at the release of the West Coast Classic fixtures, talk about a potential Goldfields Giants women's team and more. All made possible thanks to Bassett-Scarfe Realty (www.bassettscarfe.com.au).
We continue to try to raise our game every episode here of SBL Shootaround and this time around, we are joined by a very special guest for the entire show in studio. Basketball Writer Chris Pike and two-time SBL Coach of the Year Randy Miegel have the honour of being joined by one of WA basketball's greatest coaching minds this century, Craig Mansfield and it takes on an added degree of fascination considering Randy and Craig went to battle as coach of Mandurah and Lakeside respectively in the semi finals of 2017 and Grand Final of 2018. We begin the show with some discussion around some current basketball news including Darcee Garbin being confirmed to join Sami Whitcomb and Ryan Petrik at the Perth Lynx in the WNBL along with getting Craig's thoughts on the SBL season cancelled, replaced by West Coast Classic, his decision to stand down from Lakeside Lightning for 2020 and plenty more. It's then time for our conclusion to our month long preview of how the SBL season would have panned out without the interference of COVID-19. Chris and Randy predict their playoff teams, Grand Finalists, Champions, Wooden Spooners and individual award winners in a discussion heavily dissected by Craig Mansfield. It's then time to reflect on the remarkable career journey of Craig Mansfield that saw him take the Lakeside Lightning to a Grand Final aged 24 and since go on to coach the Swan City Mustangs, Kalamunda Eastern Suns and again the Lightning more recently in between a two-year stint at the University of North Dakota. It's a candid discussion about coaching philosophies, maturing from a coach he admits he was too young to be to how he sees things now, why he felt he needed to step away at the end of 2014, his marriage to Courtney Mansfield (nee Byrnes), close bond with Ali Schwagmeyer and so much more. It's all made possible thanks to Bassett-Scarfe Realty (www.bassettscarfe.com.au).
We are back with another episode of Women's SBL Shootaround and with so much to talk about along with two very special guests, it's a show well worth tuning in for. Episode 4 of SBL Shootaround gets underway with co-hosts Chris Pike and Randy Miegel talking about the exciting news with the Perth Lynx signing former Rockingham Flames superstar Sami Whitcomb to make her return to the WNBL. Attention then turns to a painstaking look back for Randy on the 2018 Grand Final loss for his Mandurah Magic against the Lakeside Lightning, where his team led 74-64 with 5:30 remaining only to fail to score again and concede the game's final 21 points in his last game at the helm. It's then time for our first guest on Episode 4 and it's brand new Perth Lynx WNBL and two-time Rockingham Flames Women's SBL championship winning coach Ryan Petrik. He chats about getting the job as Lynx coach, the signing of Whitcomb, potentially Darcee Garbin and others, and also reflects on his 10-year stint in the Women's SBL coaching at the Flames, his 2019 season coaching the Rockingham men and plenty more including the West Coast Classic, life at home with championship winning captain Chelsea, his rivalry with Randy Miegel's Mandurah Magic. It doesn't stop there, we then chat to inspirational Mandurah Magic captain and 304-game SBL veteran Rachel Halleen. We discuss her knee injury and decision to avoid surgery on her ruptured ACL and how pumped she is to return to the court in 2020. We also reflect on her court, the remarkable players she's earned a reputation guarding, her time with Randy as coach of the Magic and plenty more. We then finish our discussion on looking at how the teams were shaping up for the 2020 SBL season with a focus on the Rockingham Flames, South West Slammers, Warwick Senators and Willetton Tigers. It's all made possible thanks to Bassett-Scarfe Realty (www.bassettscarfe.com.au).
We are back with the third episode of Women's SBL Shootaround and we have a very special guest in the form of an SBL, WNBL and Australian Opals superstar along with further discussion of how the SBL season was looking, the West Coast Classic, the new Perth Lynx coach and plenty more. First up on Episode 3 of SBL Shootaround with Chris Pike and Randy Miegel is a discussion about two-time Rockingham Flames championship-winning coach Ryan Petrik being appointed new head coach of the WNBL's Perth Lynx. Randy reflects on his year's coaching against him, talk about how good it is for an SBL coach to get this opportunity and plenty more. It's then time for this week's special guest and it is three-time SBL championship-winner and dual WNBL championship-winning superstar Darcee Garbin. In a wide-ranging and fascinating discussion, Darcee opens up about her time with the Flames in the SBL and with Ryan Petrik as her coach along with what her plans were for this 2020 off-season and what her plans now are. Darcee also discusses being a free agent in the WNBL ahead of the 2020/21 season and what she is weighing up in choosing where she'll continue to play her basketball with an eye to continuing opportunities with the Australian Opals with the ultimate goal of next year's Tokyo Olympics. There's plenty more discussed including her bond and rivalry with netball superstar sister Sophie, dreams she is working towards and plenty more. Chris and Randy then come back to have a look at how the Lakeside Lightning, Mandurah Magic, Perry Lakes Hawks and Perth Redbacks were looking for the 2020 SBL season, and now for the replacement West Coast Classic.
