A eulogy to another incredible performance by the extraodinary 15 year old Vaibhav Sooryavanchi in the IPL. In yesterday's innings of 97 in 29 balls he surpassed Chris Gayle's record tally of 59 sixes in one edition of the IPL. Sooryavanchi has now hit 65, many off some of the world's greatest bowlers - Pat Cummins was struck for 4 yesterday. Sooryavanchi has also resumed his place at the top of the IPL runmakers leaderboard with 680 at a strike rate of 240. And this on the day (May 27th 1938) when Sir Donald Bradman became the only man to twice score 1000 first class runs before the end of May (the previous time was in 1930.) Sooryavanchi is exhibiting the same incredible dominance and almost comic-book supremacy as Bradman did then. #india #ipl #power #unstoppable Learn more about your ad choices. One of the Business of Sport greats returns. It was too painful to do this just after the Ashes, but with time the ever effective healer, and with the IPL kicking off this week, what better moment to get Pat Cummins back in the seat. When Pat first came on before the 2023 Ashes, the conversation ranged from how they'd deal with the new style of cricket England were bringing to the test scene, while also looking at the impact of an increasingly packed calendar, and how the players manage their priorities. This time round, the less we talk about England the better, but with the IPL fronting the calendar for the next few weeks, we take a proper look at what that tournament has done for the global game. This is another quality insight into the world of cricket at the highest level from one of the game's great players. In this episode of the show, Binksy, Baldy, Raj and Stu are back in the same room again (almost all of us) to kick off the IPL 2026 coverage with a bumper preview show in two parts. This is part two, in which we previewing the fortunes of Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru & Mumbai Indians. We're straight into it this time around to discuss an SRH side that was much hyped in 2025, but never really found a run of performances to get themselves in the playoff picture. Once again, though, the team looks built around power, with Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen set to lead the way. But can the bowling hold up until Pat Cummins arrives? Next up is CSK, a team that Stu was surprised to see ranked so highly. We talk about the youthful look to their potential lineup, which could include the likes of Ayush Mhatre & Dewalt Brevis to supplement the old heads like offseason recruit Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad & Shivam Dube. We also wonder whether Matt Henry will get an extended run of games, and how many MS Dhoni moments we might see in 2026. For GT it looks like business as usual. Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan & Jos Buttler at the top, with stars like Rashid Khan, Mohammad Siraj and Prasidh Krishna with the ball. There was some debate about who might fill out the overseas roles, with Kagiso Rabada, Glenn Phillips, Jason Holder & Tom Banton all in the mix, but all in all they look a team set to be hard to beat again in 2026. RCB return to the IPL as defending champions, but potentially without the services of Josh Hazlewood for a decent chunk of the tournament. We talk about how much his absence could hurt them, the impact of Bhuvi Kumar and Krunal Pandya in 2025, plus whether they'll find room for Jacob Bethell and which overseas player might have to sit out as a result. There's also a bit of Virat Kohli chat, given his excellent form in recent times. The Mumbai Indians are short-priced favourites, and it's hard to find many flaws in their potential lineups. They're stacked with Indian stars like Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, & Tilak Varma, and the overseas players aren't too bad either. We talk about the questions facing their side. Quinton de Kock or Ryan Rickelton? Can they fit both Will Jacks & Mitchell Santner into the lineup? And how fun is it to watch Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah bowl in tandem? To round out the preview, we make our predictions! Overseas MVP, local MVP, purple cap, orange cap, top 4, bold predictions and our picks for who will be calling themselves champions come the end of the season. Four absolute pillars of Australian cricket! The skipper Pat Cummins, the second-highest wicket-taker in Australian Test history Nathan Lyon, and the fast-bowling enforcers Mitch Starc and Josh Hazlewood. More than 1,500 Test wickets between them, countless Ashes stories, and a bond forged through years of shared spells, shared planes and shared pressure. We hear from the four great mates like never before. From first memories of each other, Ashes moments, and the stats that actually matter inside the change rooms. It’s relaxed, honest and full of laughs. Plenty of banter, plenty of insight, and a rare look behind the curtain at the group that led Australia’s Ashes defence. An early Christmas present for Howie Games listeners and cricket tragics alike.Hope you love it as much as Howie does.
Australia retain the Ashes in record time and the reaction from England is every bit as messy as their cricket. Australia tightened their grip on the Ashes on Day 2 in Adelaide as England's Bazball bravado collapsed once again. After Australia were bowled out for 371, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon returned with venom, ripping through England's top order on a hot, flat pitch that should have favoured batting. England's frustrations were compounded by ongoing DRS and Snicko controversies, internal tensions, and another disjointed batting display, leaving them eight wickets down and still trailing heavily. With Cummins' leadership, Lyon's milestone moment, and England staring down a likely 3–0 deficit, this Test — and tour — is slipping rapidly out of their control. The Ashes Daily 2025, 2nd Test, Brisbane Day 0: Is that Pat Cummins' walk-on music? Is he running into the ring? It had a wrestling feel to it at the Gabba as Steve Smith hasn't at all ruled out Australia's skipper making a shock return to the Brisbane XI from outside of the original squad. But what about Josh Inglis? Or the opening position? Or Beau Webster? These decisions are all to come. As for England, they've also changed things up with the inclusion of utility Will Jacks. Ashes Cricket: Injury Risks and Unknown Opponents. Jeremy Zakis discusses the upcoming Ashes contest, noting both Australia and England are good teams with unknowns. Australia aims to match England's power but faces risks from older, injury-prone players, including captain Pat Cummins. The series outcome depends heavily on the English team's strategy (fast, slow, power, or spinning). 1898
Ashes Cricket Update: Pat Cummins Out, Steve Smith Steps Up as Captain. Jeremy Zakis discusses how the Australian Ashes team faces uncertainty as expected captain Pat Cummins is likely out of the first match, and probably the series, due to severe shoulder and back injuries. Steve Smith has been selected as the replacement captain. Player selection is ongoing, with Marnus Labuschagne expected to return after improving his one-day international performance. Meanwhile, rivals England were decisively beaten by New Zealand, though this poor performance might be intentional "psychological warfare" before the November start in Perth.
Ashes Cricket Strategy Shifts to Batting Power GUEST NAME: Jeremy Zachis The conversation covers a major shift in Australia's Ashes cricket strategy, moving from prioritizing technical bowlers to focusing on strong batters. England was already going for muscle and hitters. Selectors are watching Sheffield Shield Games for batsmen, possibly due to captain Pat Cummins' injury and other bowlers showing signs of tiredness. This means the Ashes could feature two very strong batting teams. 1905
