Micronations, tiny little countries, usually self-declared, have been set up for all sorts of reasons. To build a driveway, to swear loyalty to the Queen, and even to protest having to play rugby for a neighbouring town. What motivates a person to invent their own country? And why are there so many in Australia?

Are you sick of the Government telling you what to do ? Do what Aussie wheat farmer Leonard Casley did and start your own country ! Unhappy with production quotas being imposed by the government , Leonard renamed himself Prince Leonard , donned a robe and some jewels , created a flag and a new currency and voila , he was now Prince Leonard of the Principality of Hutt River . He even got a letter from the Queen . He did go to war with Australia at one point .. for 48 hours until he declared that Hutt River had won the war. It's that easy folks .... As we wrote recently, high tax states like NY, CA, CT, NJ, MA, IL and others are starting to feel the new tax law's impact. Governor Andy Cuomo went to the White House hat in hand to beg for the increasing of the SALT deduction (It was unlimited but the law reduced it to 10k per annum). He's looking at a $2.3 billion hole in his budget directly attributable to it. Good luck there. President Trump suggested he look at reducing high taxes, now there's a novel concept. We mourn the passing of Prince Leonard, who took on the Australian central government when they tried to put his farm out of business. He started the province Hutt River which the government refused to recognize. Once, for three days, he declared war on the state. Hopefully his spirit will carry on and a new generation of Aussies will continue the fight.

RIP Prince Leonard of Hutt River, who passed away today. In my latest video I tell the story of how The Principality of Hutt River -- this micro nation inside of Australia -- was formed, and the heroism of the amazing man who fought tyranny and won. He will be sorely missed. If you liked this, please subscribe to my YouTube Channel! Returning to Mormon Stories, Dr. Greg Prince delves into the life and legacy of Leonard Arrington—considered by many to be the foremost twentieth-century historian of Mormonism. This interview follows closely the abstract of the book: "Leonard Arrington’s career was not without controversy. Gregory Prince takes an in-depth look at this respected historian and, in telling Arrington’s story, gives readers insight into the workings of the LDS Church in the late twentieth century. In 1972, during a major reorganization of the LDS Church, Arrington was asked to serve as the official church historian, thereby becoming the first—and thus far the only—professional historian to hold that title. He immediately set out to professionalize the entire Church History Division and open its extensive archives to scholarly researching. While the output of and from that division moved Mormon studies to a new level, the shift of historiography from faith promotion ecclesiastical, to scholarly and professional research and analysis was unacceptable to a handful of powerful senior apostles. In 1980 the History Division was disassembled and moved to Brigham Young University. That led to a shift in the professionalization of the Church History Division and Archives and in Arrington’s career but not to a loss of his broad influence." ________________________ Part 1: Greg discusses why he chose to write this book and describes how Leonard Arrington became LDS Church Historian Part 2: Greg discusses significant events that occurred during Leonard Arrington's administration Part 3: Greg describes the legacy of Leonard Arrington and shares his thoughts on where the LDS Church presently stands in its presentation of church history ________________________
