Tonight, we present two examinations of the world of newspapers and investigative reporting, first comedy, then something a little more dramatic.  The newspaper comic strip “Blondie” was created by Chic Young and started running in 1930.  It is still running, as I record this, almost 92 years later.  It features the domestic mis-adventures of the eponymous Blondie, and her husband Dagwood, Bumstead.  And, in this case, their children, son Alexander and daughter Cookie.  The success of the comic strip launched a series of 28 “Blondie” movies, produced from 1938 to 1950, all starring Penny Singleton as Blondie and Arthur Lake as Dagwood.  The weekly radio series, also starring Singleton and Lake, ran concurrently on various networks and for various sponsors from 1939 to 1950.  This is a typical episode, with Dagwood accidentally getting involved in embarrassing shenanigans.  And I particularly enjoy some of the sound effects. Then real-life politician, writer, and newspaper publisher Will Rogers, Jr. plays a heightened version of himself on “Rogers of the Gazette.”  This episode also features young reporters hunting for scandal, and finding just a bit of crime and peril. Florida State is finally looking to get the ball rolling after two consecutive losing seasons under Mike Norvell. Going into this College Football season the FSU Football program the Seminoles are looking to at least make a bowl game and maybe more depending on the development of Quarterback Jordan Travis. JT Sports gives his thoughts on how good FSU Football will be in 2022. The UNC Football program had extremely high expectations going into the 2021 College Football season. North Carolina would end up being one of the most disappointing teams in College Football finishing with a 6-7 record and having an awful record on the road. With the loss of Sam Howell who will take over the reins at Quarterback for UNC? Will UNC Football bounce back in 2022 and return to competing for the ACC? Coming off there National Championship victory Georgia looks poised for another dominant season. However, Tennessee and Kentucky have started to emerge as programs on the rise during last year's College Football season. Both Kentucky and Tennessee are expected to compete for second place in the SEC East, but which one of them has the best chance to potentially dethrone Georgia and win the SEC East division? Alabama won the SEC Championship last College Football season and finished as runner-ups to Georgia in the National Championship. The SEC West is arguably the toughest division in College Football and with the chaotic nature of College Football, what team is the biggest threat to Alabama in the SEC West this year? Could it be Arkansas after having a breakout year led by Quarterback KJ Jefferson? Arkansas has one of the best offensive lines in College Football and also should improve on the defensive side of the ball and also gave Alabama a close game last season. Texas A&M upset Alabama last year and are most likely the second most talented team in the SEC West and if they can get consistent Quarterback play they could have a good shot at winning the division. LSU, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss are wildcards with both LSU and Ole Miss still in search of their starting Quarterbacks. LSU brought in Brian Kelly who hit the transfer portal hard to help win right away. Mississippi State returns Will Rogers at QB and very talented defense and could be one of the biggest surprises in College Football. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jtsports/support
