Gentiles receive the Holy Spirit 7-6-26 by St. John's Church, Southbourne
Father uses scripture to encourage us to persevere when we feel discouraged.
Episode Notes Pentecost 2026 What does it mean to be filled with the Spirit? Doesn't every believer already have the Spirit dwelling within them? What is it like to be filled with the Spirit, how would you know? These are some of the questions addressed as Ian takes a look at how the church in Ephesus began. Ian also talks about how Newfrontiers - now a global a family of over 5,000 churches began 50 years ago. The important question to ask is the one Paul asked in Acts 19 - 'Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?'
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance" (Acts 2:4)
In this episode you'll hear how the Holy Spirit continually finds ways to renew the faith of the Church.Readings for Pentecost Sunday https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/052426-DaySome stories cited from TMS Global https://www.tms-global.org/story-details/6-stories-of-gods-holy-spirit-fresh-from-the-mission-field* Previously posted May 20, 2024
In a world that constantly pressures us to blend in, follow trends, and rely on our own strength, Jesus calls His followers to live differently. In week two of “DON'T BE NORMAL,” we explore what it means to live a Spirit-filled life in a spiritually empty world. The Holy Spirit was never meant to be a distant idea or a theological concept, but the very presence of God living within us—bringing new life, real transformation, and supernatural power. When we allow God's Spirit to fill our lives, we stop settling for what the world offers and begin living the kind of life Jesus truly intended for His people.Support the show

Growing In God Podcast Program Number: GIG #301 Categories: Discipleship Title: Prepare to Receive the Holy Spirit Web Description: The Day of Pentecost was not just a single moment in time when the disciples experienced a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit. They had prepared before that event to receive the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit continued to be in them after that event. Pentecost for us should be more than a remembrance of a historical event. It is a time to prepare our hearts to receive the Holy Spirit to be in us and direct our lives from that moment on. Show Notes: For Christians, Pentecost represents the beginning of the Church, and many Christians celebrate it as a remembrance of that event. But there is more to Pentecost than a one-day event. And our celebration of Pentecost should be more than remembering what happened with the apostles back then. What happened at Pentecost is something we should anticipate walking in and experiencing in our own lives today. And that requires preparation, just as it was required then. Before He ascended Yeshua (Jesus) told His disciples to stay in Jerusalem and prepare for the Holy Spirit to come upon them. When that happened, it changed their lives. We think of Pentecost as a single manifestation of the Holy Spirit. But it was just the first day of the Spirit being with them and in them as He empowered them to be Christ's witnesses in all the earth. What happened with the disciples is what happened with Christ when the Holy Spirit came on Him and remained. And this is what we are to have as temples of the Holy Spirit. We absolutely want to see the outpourings of the Holy Spirit on all mankind. But that means more than having some wonderful experiences on one day and then going back to our regular lives the next day with no awareness of Him. We are looking for a life-changing event like the Day of Pentecost. We are looking for the Holy Spirit to be poured out on us and permanently reside in us as His temple. It means we do not go back to living our own lives according to our own desires and passions. The Holy Spirit, who is from God, has come to dwell within us to lead us, guide us, and direct our lives. This is what we prepare ourselves for. Key Verses: • Acts 1:2–8. "He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised." • 1 Corinthians 6:19–20. "Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you." • John 1:33. "He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One." • Galatians 2:20–21. "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me." • John 14:17–23. "You know Him because He abides with you and will be in you." • 1 Corinthians 3:16–17. "Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?" • Romans 8:10–16. "You have not received a spirit of slavery … but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons." Quotes: • "It's important to me that we take the Bible with the attitude that we're always looking for what God has opened the door to. And have that be an experience that we walk in." • "Our salvation experience, our walk with God, our revelation of Christ, our revelation of the Father is to be something that changes our way of life, how we think, what we do. We are to be led now by the Spirit, not led by our own thoughts and will and desires." • "It's worth taking a few days and really going before the Lord to find out, 'Is there any resistance in me? Is there any way in which I'm not really opening my heart to the completeness, the thorough reality of what it is to be the temple of the Holy Spirit and to have the Holy Spirit dwelling in me so that I am no longer my own person?'" Takeaways: 1. Pentecost is more than a time to celebrate a historic event. It is a time to prepare our hearts, just as the disciples prepared, for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. 2. The Holy Spirit did not come at Pentecost to give the disciples a one-day experience. He came to remain with them and be in them just as He did with Christ. We should expect the same. 3. He comes to dwell in us as His temple. We are no longer our own person living for our own desires, but He is in us to guide us and direct our lives.
Samaritans receive the Holy Spirit Acts 8:9-25 Martin Fair
In the account of Philip, we encounter an unusual moment: people are baptized as disciples of Jesus, yet they do not receive the Spirit right away. Luke presents this as an exception—which implies the norm is that the Spirit accompanies Christian baptism. That raises an important question: what is baptism's role in the life of a Christian? Does it save? Or is it the means by which we receive the Spirit—as if the Spirit could be compelled by the act itself? Today is day 88 and we are on the Third Article of the Apostles' Creed. Today we are on the thirteenth line: “I believe in the Holy Spirit”. 88. How do you receive the Holy Spirit? The Scriptures teach that, by repenting and being baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ, I am forgiven my sins and I receive the Holy Spirit, who gives me new birth in Christ and frees me from the power of sin. (Luke 11:11–13; John 3:1–7; Acts 2:38; 8:14–17; 19:1–6; 1 Corinthians 6:9–11; 12:13; 2 Timothy 1:6–7) We will conclude today with Prayer 97. Just as a loving father gives good gifts to his children, our Heavenly Father eagerly desires to bestow the gift of the Holy Spirit. In episode ten of "The Holy Spirit," Duane Sheriff teaches how to receive this incredible gift by asking in faith and being willing to speak in tongues. The key is to ask with confidence, believing that we receive at the moment we ask. This shift in perspective can transform our approach to spiritual growth, encouraging us to focus on Jesus as the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit, rather than getting caught up in the manifestations of that gift.Step out in faith, speak under the Spirit's anointing, and surround yourself with believers who can support and encourage you in this journey. We don't have to beg, bargain, or wait—Jesus is eager to fill those who believe they receive when they ask. We apologize for the audio issues at the start of this recording—they resolve just before the 4-minute mark. In this week's message, in Acts 19:1–10, we see Paul lovingly correct incomplete belief by proclaiming the full gospel of Jesus, leading disciples to receive the Holy Spirit and know Christ fully. As Paul then continues boldly reasoning and teaching in Ephesus, the word of the Lord spreads widely, reminding us of our call to speak the gospel with clarity, patience, and courage.

In this episode of The Hacka Podcast, host Greg Hackathorn is joined once again by Evangelist Simeon Costa, creator of Life Studies. Together, they explore one of the most debated questions in Christianity — When does a believer receive the Holy Spirit? From Acts 2 to Romans 10, Greg and Simeon trace the biblical, historical, and theological roots of the new birth experience. They unpack how early church history, Catholic tradition, and the Reformation shaped modern interpretations of salvation — and why the Apostolic pattern of repentance, baptism in Jesus' Name, and infilling of the Holy Spirit remains vital today. If you've ever wondered about faith, grace, and the moment of spiritual transformation, this episode will challenge and deepen your understanding of what it truly means to be born again. For the full show notes go to - http://hacka.org/2025/10/11/207-simeon-costa-when-does-a-believer-receive-the-holy-spirit/

Welcome to the Grace in Focus podcast. Today, Bob Wilkin and Steve Elkins are discussing a question about Gentiles. Did any receive the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost as the believing Jews did? If previous gentile believers weren't present for that event, when did they receive the Holy Spirit, if at all? Thanks

Jesus is creating a new humanity by breathing the breath of life upon the Church, just as God in the beginning breathed the breath of life upon a pile of dirt to create the first humanity. This breath of life is the Holy Spirit. Our part in all this is to develop a posture of openness and receptivity to God the Holy Spirit. We want to be the kind of people who welcome the Holy Spirit on a regular basis. As Christians we remain open to receive the Holy Spirit primarily for two things: transformation and empowerment.
