An episode from Cornerstone Baptist Church, a conservative, independent body of King James Bible believers located in Carthage, TN. What Cornerstone Baptist Church believes:The Bible says in 1 Peter 4:11, “If any man speak, let him speak as of the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” Our heart's desire is that God may be glorified in all things as we seek to minister to others. Cornerstone Baptist Church was started in 1991 by a group of people who wanted a church where the Bible was the final authority, not tradition or denomination. Since that time, God has blessed the effort of that initial group and the vision has been broadened and refined as the years have passed. As we have sought the leadership of the Holy Spirt and with a desire to “seek the old paths”. There are a few ministries which seem to be the “earmarks” of our church. First would be Bible preaching and teaching, in order to “perfect he saints”. We have also seen a great response to the challenge of World Missions as we continue to support more missionaries each year. One of our goals is to minister to the entire family and emphasize the importance of Bible based homes. This of course leads to a lot of training for the youth, and a particular emphasis on character. With these areas of emphasis, we also strive to exercise grace and allow the saints room and time to grow in the Lord. Christianity is not a Sunday religion It is not a performance. It is a relationship with Jesus Christ which matures with time and effort. Cornerstone Baptist Church is an independent, fundamental, mission-minded Baptist church that holds to the following: Salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ aloneThe King James Bible as the preserved word of God & our final authority The virgin birth of Jesus Christ The deity of Jesus Christ The pre-millennial return of Christ to this earth  The eternal security of ever true born-again believer The gospel as the death, burial & resurrection of Jesus Christ We resist the contemporary music & mega-church philosophy Our first meeting was in a tent in 1991. The account of the accusation, defense, and martyrdom of Stephen is long enough for us to consider in three weeks. Today, we introduce Stephen as a man filled with the Holy Spirit. Through Stephen's life and death, we see a God who carries out his redemptive plan through people, and equips them for their calling. We are encouraged to live our lives by the power of the Holy Spirt who has been give to us by God. Grace Community Church exists to build spiritually healthy people for ministry in the world. One of the ways that we pursue this mission is by gathering each Sunday for corporate worship, prayer, and biblical teaching. We have also seen a great response to the challenge of World Missions as we continue to support more missionaries each year. One of our goals is to minister to the entire family and emphasize the importance of Bible based homes. This of course leads to a lot of training for the youth, and a particular emphasis on character. With these areas of emphasis, we also strive to exercise grace and allow the saints room and time to grow in the Lord. Christianity is not a Sunday religion It is not a performance. Amen.” Our heart's desire is that God may be glorified in all things as we seek to minister to others. Cornerstone Baptist Church was started in 1991 by a group of people who wanted a church where the Bible was the final authority, not tradition or denomination. Since that time, God has blessed the effort of that initial group and the vision has been broadened and refined as the years have passed. As we have sought the leadership of the Holy Spirt and with a desire to “seek the old paths”. There are a few ministries which seem to be the “earmarks” of our church. First would be Bible preaching and teaching, in order to “perfect he saints”. We have also seen a great response to the challenge of World Missions as we continue to support more missionaries each year. One of our goals is to minister to the entire family and emphasize the importance of Bible based homes. This of course leads to a lot of training for the youth, and a particular emphasis on character. With these areas of emphasis, we also strive to exercise grace and allow the saints room and time to grow in the Lord. Christianity is not a Sunday religion It is not a performance. Since that time, God has blessed the effort of that initial group and the vision has been broadened and refined as the years have passed. As we have sought the leadership of the Holy Spirt and with a desire to “seek the old paths”. There are a few ministries which seem to be the “earmarks” of our church. First would be Bible preaching and teaching, in order to “perfect he saints”. We have also seen a great response to the challenge of World Missions as we continue to support more missionaries each year. One of our goals is to minister to the entire family and emphasize the importance of Bible based homes. This of course leads to a lot of training for the youth, and a particular emphasis on character. With these areas of emphasis, we also strive to exercise grace and allow the saints room and time to grow in the Lord. Christianity is not a Sunday religion It is not a performance. Amen.” Our heart's desire is that God may be glorified in all things as we seek to minister to others. Cornerstone Baptist Church was started in 1991 by a group of people who wanted a church where the Bible was the final authority, not tradition or denomination. Since that time, God has blessed the effort of that initial group and the vision has been broadened and refined as the years have passed. As we have sought the leadership of the Holy Spirt and with a desire to “seek the old paths”. There are a few ministries which seem to be the “earmarks” of our church. First would be Bible preaching and teaching, in order to “perfect he saints”. We have also seen a great response to the challenge of World Missions as we continue to support more missionaries each year. One of our goals is to minister to the entire family and emphasize the importance of Bible based homes. This of course leads to a lot of training for the youth, and a particular emphasis on character. With these areas of emphasis, we also strive to exercise grace and allow the saints room and time to grow in the Lord. Christianity is not a Sunday religion It is not a performance. We have also seen a great response to the challenge of World Missions as we continue to support more missionaries each year. One of our goals is to minister to the entire family and emphasize the importance of Bible based homes. This of course leads to a lot of training for the youth, and a particular emphasis on character. With these areas of emphasis, we also strive to exercise grace and allow the saints room and time to grow in the Lord. Christianity is not a Sunday religion It is not a performance. St. Matthew 19:16-26 (Rich Young Man) Hebrews 9:1-7 In this homily, Father Anthony reflects on the Gospel of the rich young man, reminding us that salvation is more than meeting a minimum standard—it is a lifelong journey toward holiness. He shows how Christ gently leads us beyond comfort, calling us to surrender our attachments, whether wealth, time, opinions, or fears, in order to live in love and trust before God. Through the practice of kenosis, or self-emptying, we learn to soften our hearts, grow in grace, and allow Christ to transform us into His likeness. NOTE: The prayer that Fr. Anthony references at the beginning of the homily is: "The Holy Spirt shall come upon thee, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow thee." It is from St. Luke 1:35, with the Archangel Gabriel pronouncing this blessing upon the Virgin Mary.  As Fr. Anthony notes, the Orthodox Church uses this blessing liturgically during the Divine Liturgy.

What should a Christian look like? It should be the Holy Spirt. So how do you know if you are filled with the Holy Spirit? Today we finish out our series Fire. For those who want the Holy Spirit to live inside of them, this message is for you.

New Covenant Church

To live in unity we need to use the filter of the Holy Spirt to get rid of the crud.

When the navigation app suggested a route that would cut almost an hour off their drive from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, Shelby Easler and her brother followed the alternate directions. However, the “short cut” led them along a dirt path for hours that left them stranded in California’s Mojave Desert during a dust storm. They were able to reverse course, but they eventually had to be towed because of all the damage to their car from the rough terrain. The app developer apologized to the numerous travelers who followed those wrong directions. It's important who we rely on for guidance. As believers in Jesus, we’ve been given the Holy Spirt to lead and direct us in matters of truth. When Jesus knew that He’d soon die and be taken from His disciples, He assured them He wouldn’t leave them stranded. He urged His disciples to obey His commands and spoke of the promised Holy Spirit, or the Spirit of truth, who would be with them forever and live inside of them (John 14:15-17). “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you” (v. 26). Let’s continue to follow the Holy Spirit’s prompting as we go throughout our day. We know He’ll never lead us astray.

In this power-packed message, Ps. Jared unpacks Jesus' words around the cost of being a disciple and what it means for us today, using the power of the Holy Spirt to fully walk in our authority in Christ!

Notes:Command (vs 4)Jesus gives a Jesus command. I'm not sure anyone else could have done this or would have done this. Wait here and don't move until the gift appears. How long? No answer. How will we know the gift is here? No answer. What should we do while we wait? No answer. What kind of power? No answer. Notice they don't actually ask any of these questions - at least not that we are told. But they do want to know about what the power will do for them. Will it displace the Romans?  Will we get our nation back? Will we get our lives back? In other words, we are willing to wait without questions if this is going to get us what we want out of it. Identity (vs 5)The HS identity is a gift just as Jesus was a gift.  It is important to see him this way.  Gifts are given not earned.  They must be accepted.  They must be unwrapped or taken into our lives.Wait in Jerusalem Jesus commands his followers to wait in the place of their greatest defeat and worst tragedy. It is also the location of immanent danger to anyone associated with his name. They know Jesus is alive. He tells them about the kingdom. How exciting must this be?  How incredible to see these things and sense you are on the verge of all your dreams come true?  And Jesus command is to wait. That's fine. But he isn't going to wait with them. And that is not so fine. Jesus is leaving and we are waiting a "few days."  What does that mean?  We know God's sense of time and ours are not at all similar (2 pet 3:8). Waiting an indefinite amount of time without the real presence of God in Jesus and without the internal presence of God in the Holy Spirt, in a dangerous place full of bad memories is a daunting task.  This is a great act of faith. Why would Jesus leave them in this position?  What's the point?
