In a nation facing corruption, unemployment, and broken systems — it's easy to lose faith. But this message declares what God has already spoken over this land, and it is good. Drawing from the stories of Elijah under the juniper tree, Daniel in Babylon, and the rebuilding of Jerusalem's walls under Nehemiah, we see a pattern: God does not abandon nations in crisis. He raises up remnants within them. South Africa is not forgotten. It is a field for harvest. Today's message will challenge you to: 1. Pray prophetically over your city, your province, and your nation 2. Rise above a spirit of despair and cynicism - these are weapons against your destiny 3. Understand your role as salt and light in a broken system 4. Intercede for your leaders, even when it is hard to 5. Believe that revival is not distant - it begins in your household *“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” — 2 Chronicles 7:14 South Africa needs the Church to stand up, speak up, and show up!

This week, Fr. Ivan challenges us to live as Christians live when Jesus asks us to "Keep my commands," if we love Him. It's hard to summarize all of them, but he highlights the following:Pray. Intercede for others.Turn internal criticism into thanksgiving.Listen. Pay attention.Celebrate and appreciate the triumphs and gifts of others.Share. Be generous with your time and your things.Avoid asking "What's in it for me?"Forgive daily.Remember everyone's dignity. Never use others.
In a recent episode, Dr. Ellie Paley walked us through Job 42:6, Job's final response to God's answer from the whirlwind. The very next verse, Job 42:7, presents the conundrum of how Job, who was just rebuked by God, is now commended by God in contrast to his three friends. The Hebrew wording suggests that the key difference between Job and his friends lies in the direction of their speaking: To God about Job or to Job about God? Dr. Paley has taught courses at Duke Divinity School and Jerusalem University College, and is transitioning to a postdoctoral position at Bar-Ilan University near Tel Aviv. Her doctoral research on Divine-Human Dialogue and Resolution in the Book of Job is forthcoming with Brill.
How wonderful is it that God thought of you as Christ was dying on the cross? He loves sinners so much, even those who had yet to be born.

Opening Illustration (Rowan Atkinson, a legendary icon of comedy, television, and cinema, has left even the world's richest and most powerful figures stunned—not just with his words, but with decisive action.https://substack.com/@ajw3477/note/c-213026215?r=ogd8w&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=notes-share-actionAt a glamorous red-carpet gala in Los Angeles on December 20, attended by film moguls, tech billionaires, and Hollywood's most elite stars, Rowan Atkinson took the stage to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. But instead of offering a conventional acceptance speech, he chose a moment of truth—direct, fearless, and deeply human. He did not thank the Academy. He did not reminisce about Mr. Bean, Blackadder, or decades of global laughter. Instead, Atkinson looked straight into the audience of wealth and influence and declared:“We sit here surrounded by diamonds and artistic glory while the world outside is falling apart. If your voice can move millions and you choose not to use it for those who have no voice, then you are not creating change—you are creating noise.”The room fell into complete silence. Film executives and invited guests sat motionless, struck by the weight of his words. He continued, unwavering:“If you have more than you need, it no longer belongs only to you. Your responsibility is to lift up those who are still beneath you.”And he did not stop at words. That very night, Atkinson announced that all profits from his archived works and future creative projects—estimated at 160 million USD—will be donated to fund children's health initiatives, climate action programs, and arts education for underprivileged youth. His message was unmistakable:“Legacy is not built on what you earn. It is built on what you give.”In an era when celebrities are often dismissed as hollow symbols, Rowan Atkinson delivered a powerful reminder to the world:true impact is not created by applause, but by easing the suffering of others. Context (Opening Paragraph)Abraham has been entertaining 3 strangers at his tent for most of the day. Two of them are about to leave and head to Sodom to investigate the outcry against the wickedness of that city. They will assist the Lord in deciding the fate of the city. In the meantime, Abraham will have a conversation with God. He will intercede on behalf of those wicked citizens.Abraham will model for us how we are to live so that our lives make a real difference in the world. Just like the affluent were challenged to do by Mr. Bean.Bottom Line: I am leading people to God when I welcome the stranger, teach my household, and intercede on behalf of the world.OUTLINE (Genesis 18:16-33)I. Abraham, friend of God. (Genesis 18) Blessed to be a blessing, Abraham...A. Welcomed the stranger. #hospitality #love #care #lead (1-15)Qualified elders are required to be hospitable.Biblical hospitality is primarily geared towards strangers.B. Taught his household. #instruction #education #discipleship #feed (17-19)Qualified elders are to be able to teach the word.We start discipleship with our immediate family members and work out from there. Abraham was like the mayor, CEO and pastor of 1,000 people. Ultimately, he would bless the world.C. Interceded on behalf of Sodom. #mercy #intercession #prayer #mission #protect (16, 20-33)To intercede means to stand in the gap on behalf of others for their good.To intercede spiritually means to stand in the gap between them and God for their good. This is key to being an effective missionary.CONCLUSIONMy freshman year at college, when I was sitting in that auditorium at the end of the Christian concert, with my Christian friends, thinking I was a Christian the whole time, I heard the gospel message preached clearly for the first time.At that time, more than any other reason, I was drawn by the idea that I could make a real difference in this world. It just required surrender rooted in faith that God through Jesus Christ could use me to make some of that difference our world needed. So I stood and trusted Christ as my Lord and Savior believing that his way of making a difference in our world was the best way...maybe the only way.Bottom Line: I am leading people to God when I welcome the stranger, teach my household, and intercede on behalf of the world. So, Welcome the Stranger.Teach your household.Intercede for the world. Are you leading people close to you to God? Are you welcoming people into your life? Your home? Are you teaching your household how to be salt and light by doing what is right and just? Are you actively and prayerfully interceding on behalf of lost people around the corner? This is the only place in the Bible where he does so. The late Chief Rabbi, Lord Jonathan Sacks, comments:This tells us three things about what it is to be an heir of Abraham.First, it means that we are to be guardians of our children's future. We must ensure that they have a world to inherit... Second, education - directing our children and our household after us - is a sacred task ... Third, how do you keep the way of the Lord? By doing what is right and just.It would be impossible to overstate the importance of these principles in a world where children so often bear the brunt of neglect, abuse and suffering.” Friend of God, p. 186YOUTUBE DESCRIPTION MAIN REFERENCES USED“Genesis,” by R. Plus news, weather, sports, and more… ***** Prayer to St. Joseph for the Unemployed Silent and well-known carpenter in Nazareth, model of workers, by the work of your hands you gave your contribution to the work of the Creator, you earned your living, and you provided for the needs of the Holy Family. Intercede for all workers, in the difficulties of their daily lives especially for the unemployed, in their anxieties for tomorrow, so that through the guidance of God, the great Architect and Builder, they all may use their strength and talents to make visible God’s new creation, to offer a concrete service to society, and to earn wages worthy of their efforts. Main Idea. Believers can know with certainty that they have eternal life and belong to God. Driving Question. If we believe in the Son of God, what can we know for certain? 1. We know we have eternal life (13) 2. We know God hears us (14–17) Application. Intercede for those caught in sin. Trust that God restores His people. 3. We know God keeps us (18–21) Takeaways from 1 John. Keep trusting Christ. Keep pursuing holiness. Keep confessing sin. Keep loving one another. Keep away from idols. God keeps you; remember that.

All day I just kept repeating: ‘Lord, what should I do? Please help me.’” Pray that the Lord would meet Sister J with His peace, calm her fear, and gently guide her one step at a time. Sister J shared an update: the appeal has concluded, and the original sentence was upheld. Please pray for Pastor S as he enters this next season in prison—pray for endurance and hope, and that the Lord would open practical doors for communication, needed support, and opportunities to encourage others. Sister J described the early detention hardships of her husband: “During the first three months—the lawyer wasn’t allowed to meet him,” and “he didn’t have proper clothing and supplies. The first year he was in, his hands and feet and ears were all frostbitten.” Pray that God would protect Pastor S physically. Sister J also said her prayers for Pastor S have changed: “Lord, please let him be light and salt in detention and in prison—let him live out the likeness of Christ.” Pray that the Lord would strengthen Pastor S’s faith and make his life a clear witness of Christ in detention and prison. Sister J asked for prayer for her own spiritual stability: “My faith fluctuates a lot… so that in any environment I won’t be shaken, even in fear and anxiety I will still stand firm.” Pray that God would root Sister J in His Word, steady her emotions, and give her enduring faith and courage. Sister J shared that when she once asked who could help if her husband were arrested, Pastor S said, “There’s no one. Let me pray. Let me ask God.” She later testified that God provided caring believers and reminded her, “I’m not alone.” Pray that God would continue to surround Sister J with strong fellowship. Sister J shared: “Right now, the business can sustain me and my child’s living expenses.” But she also said, “My child’s body is very weak… almost once a month—fever and colds. So please pray for her health.” Thank the Lord for providing their daily needs, and pray that He would heal and strengthen her child’s body, giving her health and strength. I Will Restore You to Health and Heal Your WoundsJeremiah 30:17 “But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,' declares the Lord, ‘because you are called an outcast.”I was looking for a verse about restoration because one of my dear friends received a word from the Lord about it, and I wanted to share it with you. I know many of you who are listening are struggling. You have been struggling with your physical health for a long time, and you are wondering why the Lord hasn't healed you yet. You know He can, and you might even believe He will. Yet He hasn't yet, and you are wondering why and when. Some of you have been struggling financially for a long time, and you wonder when the struggle will end. You trust God to provide, yet you are really struggling right now. Your bills need to be paid, and there is no money. You are wondering when the provisions are going to show up and how much of yourself you are going to have to give away before reinforcements come. You might be struggling in your marriage or with parenting. It feels like the waves keep coming, and although you know the Lord is not going to let you drown in those waves, some days you come very close.I have been talking to a lot of people lately who are so tired of the struggle. They don't expect life to be easy, but they can't take all that is going on. They don't understand why God is not helping them. They don't understand why he is not taking this from them. They don't understand why he is not protecting them from some of this. They are tired and confused. They feel like they are running out of the strength and energy they need to keep fighting.I am in a Wednesday morning prayer group run by Rosa Rivas. She is also a wonderful friend of mine who agreed to read the Spanish Translation of the podcast so God's Word and His love can reach more people. Rosa started a WhatsApp chat for those in the prayer group. In this group, people place their prayer requests, support each other, and place any resources they have found that build their faith. Last week, many people in the group were struggling, so Rosa listened to the Lord and held a group call so we could all pray together. It was beautiful and definitely needed. I just want to pause to let you all know that you need people in your life like this. You need community, so when you are down, they can build you up!While Rosa was praying, she received this word, and I think it is not just for that group but for everyone who needs it. She heard the Lord say:“ I am restoring broken dreamsI am restoring broken promisesI am restoring broken plansI am restoring broken relationshipsI am restoring broken friendshipsI am restoring broken memoriesI am restoring broken heartsI am restoring the brokenness of all the things that have hurt you in your lifeI am restoring all the brokenness of your past and your childhoodI am restoring broken healthI am restoring everything just as I did with Job..”And then she said Declare this:In Jesus Name, I am restoredIn Jesus Name, all that has been lost and taken away from me has been restored, and I will receive double what was takenIn Jesus Name, my wounds have been healedIn Jesus Name, my joy is restoredIn Jesus Name, my strength is renewedIn Jesus Name, I am wholeIf you are tired. This message is for you. If you are struggling with broken dreams, broken promises, a broken heart, past trauma, current trauma, your health, your past, your childhood, your finances, whatever it is, this is for you. God is restoring you!I know it may not be in the way you want Him to. I know it may not be your timing. I know you feel you can't go on. I promise you, He will help you go on. I promise you, when you make it to the other side of this hill, the other side of this mountain, the other side of this ocean or cavern, it will be worth it. I am talking with many people who have been struggling for a long time. Most of them are really struggling to hold on to any hope that things will change. Is this you? Have you been down for the count so long that you can't even picture things getting better? Have you been so sick that you can't imagine a brighter future, one where you are healthy and can do all the things you want to do? I am not even talking about huge things. Some people I know have been so sick for so long that they can't even imagine a world where they can even go for a walk around the block without pain. They can't imagine a day that doesn't include all the medical appointments or treatments. Have you struggled with money so long that you can't imagine a time when you will be able to pay all your bills? If this is you, I want to assure you that there is nothing wrong. This doesn't mean you don't trust God or that you don't have enough faith. It means you are tired. You are worn down. You are weary. It is ok. I also want you to know you aren't alone. So many are suffering right now. This is why community is so important. Sometimes we need someone else to be praying for us when we just can't anymore. We need someone else to keep hoping for us when we are losing hope. Sometimes hope can be painful. It can hurt to keep hoping for something good, and yet we never see it. It is hard to hope for a husband when you don't have a boyfriend. It can be hard to hope for a healing when you just seem to be getting worse and worse. It can be hard to hope for provisions when your bills keep piling up.Hope take vulnerabitlity. Hope is believing in something that you can not see, and this is not easy when what you do see is overwhelming. It is not easy to have hope when you feel like the waves keep knocking you over. This is when it is important to have a community around you. Get involved in a Bible study or something else at your church. Or, if you can't get out of your house, find an online community. I am in two prayer groups, one at 6:30 on Wednesday morning and one at 10:00 on Thursday mornings. Both are on zoom and both are filled with powerful prayer warriors who would be happy to pray with you. I also have a Walk Boldly With Jesus Facebook group where wonderful people would be happy to pray for you.If you don't have a community and don't want to find one, at least find one person who can be your prayer partner. Someone who can hold you in prayer and who can hold onto that hope for you. Also, you can pray for them. Sometimes, it is easier to pray for others than for your own situation, because we are too close to it. Also, praying for someone else will give you a sense of purpose and, at least while you are praying, distract you from your troubles. I would like to challenge each of you to check out a Bible Study or a prayer group, or to find at least one person and ask them to be your prayer partner. We were not meant to do life on our own. God built us for community.Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode. Lord, we thank you so much for Your Word above. We thank you for restoring us and healing us. We thank you that you love us so much that you meet us where we are, but then you don't let us stay there; you lift us up. Lord, we ask for that restoration and healing you promised above. We ask for the strength and perseverance to wait for it as we are growing weary, Lord. Help us to hang in there. Lord, I ask that you help each person listening find their community. Help them to find a prayer partner. Help them to not feel so alone. Bring the perfect person into their life, Lord! We love you, and we ask this in accordance with Your Will and in Jesus's Holy Name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. If you would like more info on either prayer group I mentioned earlier, please reach out. Also, if you are looking for a community, I invite you to join my mentoring community. We meet on Tuesday nights at 8 PM. There is a link for it in the show notes if you would like to join us. I look forward to meeting you here again tomorrow. Remember, Jesus loves you, and so do I! Igniting the Flame: Cultivating a Missional Life Through Acts 13Pastor Chris preaches about the importance of being a missional church dedicated to spreading the gospel, as highlighted in Acts 13. Emphasizing the need for spiritual preparedness and cultivation of a life of prayer, Chris recounts personal experiences of fasting, failing, and the humbling grace of God. He elaborates on the significant themes found in Acts 13, like Paul's first missionary journey and the church of Antioch, urging the church to embrace their diverse calling. The sermon also tackles the cost of revival, urging readiness for both the blessings and challenges it brings, including societal pushback and economic upheaval. Additionally, the pastor calls for Christians to engage in every sphere of society, including politics, to influence for the kingdom of God. In a world dominated by screens, algorithms, and constant noise, Pastor Nathan challenges us to examine who—and what—is influencing our lives. While modern culture spends hours shaping our thoughts through digital influence, Scripture calls believers to be shaped by intimacy with God, not just information about Him. This message reminds us that discipleship goes beyond knowledge; it begins with a deep, personal relationship with God that transforms how we live, love, and lead.Drawing from Acts 2 and the life of Peter, Pastor Nathan highlights the power of the Holy Spirit to move us from familiarity with Jesus to bold, Spirit-led influence. True impact flows from prayer, consecration, and learning to prioritize God's presence over distractions. When intimacy comes first, influence follows naturally—not driven by platforms or popularity, but by a life surrendered to God and empowered by His Spirit. For more on LifePoint Church go to lifepointaz.com Check out our merch store https://lifepointaz-shop.fourthwall.comFind all our links in one easy spot https://linktr.ee/lifepointaz Follow us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/lifepointaz Follow us on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/lifepointchurchaz/
"And the Lord said, “If I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will spare the whole place for their sake.” Abraham answered and said, “Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord, I who am but dust and ashes. Suppose five of the fifty righteous are lacking. Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five?” And he said, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.” Again he spoke to him and said, “Suppose forty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of forty I will not do it.” Then he said, “Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak. Suppose thirty are found there.” He answered, “I will not do it, if I find thirty there.” He said, “Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord. Suppose twenty are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of twenty I will not destroy it.” Then he said, “Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak again but this once. Suppose ten are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of ten I will not destroy it.””- Genesis 18:26-32 ESV
“Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city. Will you then sweep away the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous who are in it? Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?”” - Genesis 18:24-25 ESV
ALC Recommends: One Year Bible Plan“So the men turned from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the Lord. Then Abraham drew near and said, “Will you indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked?”- Genesis 18:22-23 ESV
In this powerful message, Pastor Douglas calls the church beyond routine, surface-level prayer and into a life of true intercession. Preaching from a place of lived experience, he reminds us that fasting and prayer are often met with resistance—not because they are ineffective, but because they are effective. Intercession is not reserved for the “extra-spiritual”; it is the calling of every disciple who follows Jesus. To follow Christ is to do what He did—to stand in the gap, to contend for others, and to come before God on behalf of the lost, the hurting, and the broken. Prayer, Pastor Douglas teaches, is not meant to be mechanical or obligatory, but fueled by intimacy, surrender, and perseverance.Drawing from biblical examples like Moses and deeply personal stories, Pastor Douglas challenges us to let our hearts be moved again. True intercession flows from love—a love so real it produces burden, compassion, and even tears. He invites the church to ask God for a heart that breaks for what breaks His, and for the “gift of tears” that awakens passionate, Spirit-led prayer. At its core, intercession is rooted in friendship with God, where prayer becomes dialogue, not duty. This sermon is a clear call to allow God to interrupt our lives, deepen our love for others, and use us as vessels of His power and mercy in a world desperate for hope.
Are you willing to pray for those you dislike or disagree with?In this episode of the Curt Landry Podcast, Rabbi Curt and Darrell Puckett discuss the importance of interceding for government leaders, based on the principle of 1 Timothy 2:1-2–Paul's instruction to pray and intercede for all people, including kings and all those in authority. There is no exception to this, as Jesus instructs us to pray for even our enemies. The only way to dismantle evil or strengthen the righteous is through persistent prayer–the Scriptures tell us the hearts of kings run through God's hands like water (Proverbs 21:1). He's in control, judgment belongs to Him, and our job is to align with His will by exalting His authority and purpose in all things.Join Rabbi as he shares personal examples of praying for political leaders, and a warning to those with influence to use their platforms to bless and honor truth, rather than curse.Resource mentioned–Make America Pray Again Hats: https://curtlandry.com/MAPA

How wonderful is it that God thought of you as Christ was dying on the cross? He loves sinners so much, even those who had yet to be born.
In this sermon, Pastor Nathan calls the church into a holy reset through fasting and revival, inviting us into a focused season of consecration from January 4–25. Fasting is not about earning God's favor or manipulating outcomes—it's about surrender. In a culture of comfort and constant consumption, fasting weakens the flesh and sharpens our spiritual hunger, creating space to hear God clearly and encounter His presence deeply. Whether abstaining from food or laying down another comfort, the heart of fasting is dependence—declaring that God alone sustains us.The message presses deeper into the connection between surrender and revival, reminding us that fire only falls where there is fuel. Pastor Nathan challenges the church to let go of habits, comforts, and patterns that quench the Spirit and instead embrace prayer, repentance, and corporate hunger. Drawing from Scripture, personal stories, and voices like Leonard Ravenhill, this sermon is a wake-up call: revival does not begin in crowds—it begins in hearts. As the church fasts, prays, and fills the altar again, the Holy Spirit ignites a fire meant not just to transform individuals, but to impact an entire community. In this sermon from LifePoint Church, the discussion revolves around the importance of understanding and using the spiritual gifts that God has bestowed on individuals. The sermon, based on Ephesians 4:7-13, emphasizes how these gifts are given by grace and are essential for building up the body of Christ. Pastor Nathan explains the historical context of the ascending and descending king analogy and its relevance to receiving and using spiritual gifts. Additionally, the message encourages believers to practice and walk in their gifts despite fears of failure, stressing that maturity in faith and unity in the church body are achieved through the active use of these gifts. The episode concludes with a call to action for listeners to seek, identify, and utilize their spiritual gifts to contribute to the growth and righteousness of the church community. Crystal Rivers | Open Book | Dec 9, 2025 Settle your heart before God and recognize the privilege of being invited into His presence. Still yourself, pour out your day before Him, and allow His peace to quiet every distraction. Keep your heart tender, yielded, and moldable—like clay in the hands of a potter—willing for Him to add, remove, break, or rebuild whatever He desires so that you may be aligned to His will. Ask for a unified heart, a heart that fears God, a heart that remains planted, pliable, and responsive to His light. As you prepare for seasons of prayer, fasting, or spiritual assignments, do not stand in the way of God's work in you; instead, welcome every stretching, remolding, and purifying He brings. Pray for divine hunger—an unquenchable longing that draws you and others into deeper pursuit of God. Ask that God Himself plants holy questions, dissatisfaction with lesser things, and supernatural curiosity in those He is calling, so that nothing else can satisfy except His presence. Desire the kind of hunger that breaks through obstacles, persists past resistance, and leads straight to encounters with God. Believe that God can stir longing, guide footsteps, and orchestrate meetings, signs, and pointers that lead people into His purpose. Call upon the Holy Spirit to brood over every environment, gathering, heart, and moment. Ask that every detail—words spoken, songs sung, lights flashing, equipment functioning—become instruments in God's hands, carrying revelation, instruction, and transformation. Pray that God's power overshadow everything as He did in biblical times, making it clear that what is happening is “of God and not of man.” Pray for revival, for generational rescue, for youths and children to be awakened, delivered, healed, and shaped into mighty instruments of righteousness. Intercede for every person involved in teaching, leading, or serving, that they be full of the Spirit, full of wisdom, full of discernment, and able to speak exactly what God wants said—nothing less, nothing more, and always in the right measure for those listening. Pray that every message will carry life, revelation, and divine precision, and that every teacher will discern the spiritual maturity of their hearers so truth is delivered in its proper measure. Recognize that you are called to walk in the resurrection life of Christ even now. Understand that death, sin, sickness, and bondage no longer have dominion over you. Affirm daily that you are dead to sin and alive to God. Present your body as an instrument of righteousness and refuse to share your temple with anything that belongs to darkness. Let the word of God become flesh in you—shaping your thoughts, habits, desires, and responses—until your life testifies of the power of the age to come. Pray that the blood of Jesus covers every space, every arrangement, every person, and every circumstance connected to God's purpose. Send the blood ahead to cleanse, protect, disarm darkness, and secure divine order. Believe that angelic activity increases in places where God intends to move, and that His presence disrupts everything contrary to His will. Declare that oppressed people will not return the same way they came. Speak freedom, healing, restoration, clarity, and destiny alignment over all who encounter God in these moments. Proclaim that hearts will be mended, bodies healed, covenants with darkness broken, addictions destroyed, and lives redirected toward God. Finally, commit to being built up yourself. Do not limit your spiritual growth or accept stagnation. Lay hold of every truth available to you, train yourself in the word, and labor in faith toward every divine promise. Affirm boldly that you are the dwelling place of God, covered by the blood, filled with His Spirit, and unavailable to darkness in any form. Zoom every weekday : http://www.caveadullam.org/zoom
The Gospel of John Week 22 Scripture: John 17:1-21. Pastor starts today's class off with an interesting observation. The other three gospels, Matthew, Mark, and Luke mention the prayers of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, but John does not. John talks about the prayer that occurred before Jesus got to the garden, the prayer He prayed on the way there. When we put those two different sets of prayers together (the ones from John on the way, and the ones from the other writers at the Garden) it gives us a greater sense of Jesus' heart during this evening, but also of the assurance the He had from the Father that this is going to turn out for our deliverance. In Hebrews 12:2-3, we are encouraged to "fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinful men that you may not grow weary and lose hope." And so we are blessed by Jesus' obedience and faithfulness so that we also do not grow weary or lose hope, but that we see and understand that God is in control. Jesus and His disciples have left the upper room and are walking to the Garden of Gethsemane. In John 17:1-2 we see Him pause on His way to the garden to pray what has been referred to as the "High Priestly Prayer." Jesus begins with, "Father." It's personal and it's an example for us to be personal with God as well. Jesus says, "Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you." The Father is glorified by the obedience of Jesus, His Son, by Jesus being obedient even unto death on the cross. Jesus continues, "For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." What is eternal life? It is eternal life to know the Father and know the Son and to be in relationship with the Living God. In verse 6 Jesus starts to pray for His disciples and we see the love He has for them. He sees them as precious and loved. He looks past their mistakes and loves them and He looks at us the same way, He looks past our mistakes and loves us. We are precious to Him. We don't need to remember our failures and allow those to control us. We remember what God says about who we are and allow Him to guide and direct us as His loved children. As Jesus' prayer continues we see Him blessing them, interceding for them and praying for their protection. And He prays for them to be protected in the power of the Father's name. God's name IS His character and Jesus has revealed His name, His character, because if you want to know what the Father is like, you look at the Son. Jesus goes on to pray that he wants the full measure of His joy within His disciples. He says this knowing that in just a bit He will be arrested, tried and crucified. But what He also knows is that there is victory coming. He focused on the outcome, that of giving us an eternity with Him for all who believe in Him. And that's what He wants them to hold onto, too. And he prays for their protection from the evil one and that they would be set apart for the Father's work and His purposes. Then Jesus' prayer moves from the 12 to pray about us. verses 20-21, "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me." Pastor talks about how Jesus continues to pray for us and believers today. In Hebrews 7:25 we read, "Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them." (Intercede is to pray for). Jesus is praying that we will live in unity with God and one another. We want to love as He loved, obey as He obeyed, speak as He speaks, follow as He followed. To go where He goes. He prays unity of the believers, so that others, non-believers, the world, will know that God the Father sent Jesus because of His love for us and that is the love we share together and with others. We should flee religion and rush to the Father, seeking out a relationship with Him through faith in the Lord Jesus and becoming transformed. It's not about knowing certain facts, it's about knowing God. It's not about knowing the answer to how to get to heaven. It's is about knowing the One who get us to heaven!! Jesus says, "no-one comes to the Father, except through Me." And that is Jesus; prayer, complete unity, unity with Him, even as He and the Father are one. Jesus goes on with, "Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world." Wow, He wants to spend eternity with us. We are truly loved! We may live in His presence and live in relationship with Him, basking in His love and taking to heart what He has promised: "I am always with you, even to the end of the age." And then we read that when He had finished praying, Jesus left with His disciples and crossed the Kidron Valley. (And they continued to the Garden of Gethsemane.) The story opens with Jesus radiant on a mountaintop, flanked by Moses and Elijah, while a voice from the cloud commands, “Listen to Him.” From that moment, we trace a surprising thread to the glory Moses once tasted on another mountain, a life of prayer that begins with knowing God and overflows into bold intercession for others. In this episode, we walk through Moses' journey from burning bush to parted sea to the daring request, “Now show me Your glory.” He had witnessed miracles, yet he wanted more than gifts; he wanted the Giver. That hunger changed him. When God proclaimed His Name and goodness, Moses came down shining, a living sign that prayer is not transactional but transformational. From mountain to mission, Moses came down to face the golden calf crisis. Instead of retreating or raging, Moses stood in the breach, reminding God of His promises and pleading for mercy. Moses is a beautiful example of what Paul reminded Timothy to do in prayer: “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people.” (1 Timothy 2:1).Moses sets an example, but then we then lift our eyes beyond him to Jesus. On the Mount of Transfiguration, the prophets fade and the Son remains as the true Mediator "who always lives to intercede for us" (Hebrews 7:25). We explore what it means to join His ongoing ministry: carrying names into the throne room with promise-shaped prayers and returning to daily life with quiet radiance and steady courage. A quiet morning vision sparked a bold invitation: let prayer become the place where Heaven meets here.In this episode, join Tosha Williams for a journey up the Mount of Transfiguration. Here we see Jesus radiant in prayer and listen to what He reveals about how we can pray. Together, we will introduce the biblical accounts in Matthew 17, Mark 9, and Luke 9 to discover what God wants to show us about a transformed prayer life.Along the way, six witnesses from the mountain become our guides: Moses teaches us to INTERCEDE and stand in the gap; Elijah teaches us to BELIEVE God for the impossible; Peter teaches us to STRENGTHEN and carry on; James teaches us to FOLLOW Jesus closely; John teaches us to ABIDE; and Jesus teaches us to SURRENDER. Each of these lives show us an aspect of prayer that can change how we pray for the rest of our lives. This episode begins a spiritual journey for anyone hungry to move beyond quick requests and into a steady rhythm of presence and purpose. From mountain to mission, prayer is where transfiguration meets transformation.Accept the invitation this week: let your prayer life be changed by the Mount of Transfiguration. Take what God shows you there and let it influence how you pray here.
