GALATIANS…THE GOSPEL OF GRACE…GIVES US FREEDOM THROUGH FAITH…TO BRING GLORY TO GOD SHEEP OCCASIONALLY FALL INTO A DITCH…SWINE STAY THERE AND WALLOW Galatians 5:19-21 ESV Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, [20] idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, [21] envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT CAN ALWAYS CONQUER THE WORKS OF THE FLESH Galatians 5:22-23 ESV But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. FROM THE TIME WE ARE BORN AGAIN…UNTIL THE TIME HE TAKES US HOME…WE MUST CONSTANTLY NAIL OUR FLESH TO THE CROSS…SO THAT IT HANGS THERE…ALIVE…BUT POWERLESS TO CONTROL US Galatians 5:24 ESV And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. SINCE THE SPIRIT HAS GIVEN US LIFE…WE NEED TO LET HIM DIRECT OUR STEPS Galatians 5:25-26 ESV If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. [26] Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. Psalm 1:1-6 ESV Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; [2] but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. [3] He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. [4] The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. [5] Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; [6] for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

DO YOU EVER FEEL LIKE YOUR FAITH IS FAILING? FOLLOW THE GOOD SHEPHERD! FAITH AND FAILING TO FIND COMFORT Psalm 77:1-3 NLT 1 I cry out to God; yes, I shout. Oh, that God would listen to me! 2 When I was in deep trouble, I searched for the Lord. All night long I prayed, with hands lifted toward heaven, (stretched out — poured out like water) but my soul was not comforted. 3 I think of God, and I moan, overwhelmed with longing for his help. DON'T GET FIXATED ON FEELINGS Psalm 77:4-9 NLT 4 You don't let me sleep. I am too distressed even to pray! 5 I think of the good old days, long since ended, 6 when my nights were filled with joyful songs. I search my soul and ponder the difference now. 7 Has the Lord rejected me forever? Will he never again be kind to me? 8 Is his unfailing love gone forever? Have his promises permanently failed? 9 Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he slammed the door on his compassion? FIXATE ON FAITH Psalm 77:10-15 NLT 10 And I said, “This is my fate; the Most High has turned his hand against me.” (Is God's hand against us?) (Who is God's hand against?) 11 But then I recall all you have done, O Lord; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago. 12 They are constantly in my thoughts (meditation). I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works (musing or talking). 13 O God, your ways are holy. Is there any god as mighty as you? 14 You are the God of great wonders! You demonstrate (declare) your awesome power among the nations. 15 By your strong arm, you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. FOLLOW THE GOOD SHEPHERD Psalm 77:16-20 16 When the Red Sea saw you, O God, its waters looked and trembled! The sea quaked to its very depths. 17 The clouds poured down rain; the thunder rumbled in the sky. Your arrows of lightning flashed. 18 Your thunder roared from the whirlwind; the lightning lit up the world! The earth trembled and shook. 19 Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters— a pathway no one knew was there! 20 You led your people along that road like a flock of sheep, with Moses and Aaron as their shepherds. ARE YOU FOLLOWING THE GOOD SHEPHERD? John 10:1-19 FOLLOW JESUS CHRIST, THE GOOD SHEPHERD, HE WILL NEVER FAIL.

SELF RIGHTEOUS Galatians 5:2-4 ESV Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you. [3] I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law. [4] You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. CHRIST RIGHTEOUS Galatians 5:5-6 ESV For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. [6] For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love. CREATIVELY RIGHTEOUS Galatians 5:7-12 ESV You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? [8] This persuasion is not from him who calls you. [9] A little leaven leavens the whole lump. [10] I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view, and the one who is troubling you will bear the penalty, whoever he is. [11] But if I, brothers, still preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed. [12] I wish those who unsettle you would emasculate themselves! CHRIST RIGHTEOUS Galatians 5:13-14 ESV For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. [14] For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Driftwood Church led an Easter Sunrise Service on the beach on April 20, 2025, at 7:00 a.m. At the service, Pastor Eddy shared that, because of the resurrection, I am more sure of rising from the dead than waking up in my bed. Can you say that? The challenge was given to those who might have a hard time saying it with confidence, that they should become confident through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. That, through the power of the blood of Christ and his resurrection, they could trust in Jesus Christ to be the pardon for their sin and the hope of eternal life. "If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you." - Romans 8:11 ESV

[14] But even though my condition tempted you to reject me, you did not despise me or turn me away. No, you took me in and cared for me as though I were an angel from God or even Christ Jesus himself. [15] Where is that joyful and grateful spirit you felt then? I am sure you would have taken out your own eyes and given them to me if it had been possible. [16] Have I now become your enemy because I am telling you the truth? FAKE FRIENDS ARE OFTEN USED BY THE ENEMY TO DESTROY FAITHFUL FRIENDSHIPS Galatians 4:17-18 NLT Those false teachers are so eager to win your favor, but their intentions are not good. They are trying to shut you off from me so that you will pay attention only to them. [18] If someone is eager to do good things for you, that's all right; but let them do it all the time, not just when I'm with you. Proverbs 13:20 NLT Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble. FEARLESS FRIENDS REMAIN FAITHFUL Galatians 4:19-20 NLT Oh, my dear children! I feel as if I'm going through labor pains for you again, and they will continue until Christ is fully developed in your lives. [20] I wish I were with you right now so I could change my tone. But at this distance I don't know how else to help you. Proverbs 27:5-6 NLT An open rebuke is better than hidden love! [6] Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy. Proverbs 27:9 NLT The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense. Proverbs 27:17 NLT As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. FAITHFUL FRIENDS ARE A GIFT FROM GOD FAKE FRIENDS ARE OFTEN USED BY THE ENEMY TO DESTROY FAITHFUL FRIENDSHIPS FEARLESS FRIENDS REMAIN FAITHFUL Proverbs 18:24 NLT There are "friends" who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother. GALATIANS…THE GOSPEL OF GRACE…GIVES US FREEDOM THROUGH FAITH…TO BRING GLORY TO GOD WHY DO GODS THAT DON'T EXIST…EXIST? Galatians 4:8 NLT Before you Gentiles knew God, you were slaves to so-called gods that do not even exist. Romans 1:18-32 NLT But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness. [19] They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. [20] For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. [21] Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn't worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. [22] Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. [23] And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles. [24] So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other's bodies. [25] They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen. [26] That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. [27] And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved. [28] Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done. [29] Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. [30] They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents. [31] They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy. [32] They know God's justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do them anyway. Worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too. DON'T GO BACK TO GODS THAT DON'T EXIST…STAY WITH THE ONE TRUE GOD…WHO INTIMATELY KNOWS YOU AND UNCONDITIONALLY LOVES YOU. Galatians 4:9-12 NLT So now that you know God (or should I say, now that God knows you), why do you want to go back again and become slaves once more to the weak and useless spiritual principles of this world? [10] You are trying to earn favor with God by observing certain days or months or seasons or years. [11] I fear for you. Perhaps all my hard work with you was for nothing. [12] Dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to live as I do in freedom from these things, for I have become like you Gentiles-free from those laws… DON'T GO BACK TO GODS THAT DON'T EXIST…STAY WITH THE ONE TRUE GOD…WHO INTIMATELY KNOWS YOU AND UNCONDITIONALLY LOVES YOU. INTIMATELY KNOWS YOU AND UNCONDITIONALLY LOVES YOU.

[3] In the same way we also, when we were children, were enslaved to the elementary principles of the world. GALATIANS…THE GOSPEL OF GRACE…GIVES US FREEDOM THROUGH FAITH…TO BRING GLORY TO GOD This week, in preparation to preach Galatians 4:1-7, Pastor Eddy dives into Ephesians 2:1-10 to provide a synopsis of salvation. THE SYNOPSIS OF OUR SALVATION Ephesians 2:1-10 ESV And you were dead in the trespasses and sins [2] in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience- [3] among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. [4] But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, [5] even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ-by grace you have been saved- [6] and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, [7] so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. [8] For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, [9] not a result of works, so that no one may boast. [10] For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

[24] So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. SINCE FAITH…WE ARE BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN CHRIST…SELFLESS BELIEVERS…HEIRS OF GOD…AND NO LONGER IN NEED OF A BABYSITTER! Galatians 3:25-29 ESV But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, [26] for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. [27] For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. [28] There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread [24] and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, "This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me." [25] In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant between God and his people-an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this in remembrance of me as often as you drink it." LOOK FORWARD TO HIS RETURN 1 Corinthians 11:26 NLT[26] For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord's death until he comes again. LOOK IN TO JUDGE YOURSELF SO NO ONE ELSE HAS TO 1 Corinthians 11:27-31 NLT [27] So anyone who eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord unworthily is guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. [29] For if you eat the bread or drink the cup without honoring the body of Christ, you are eating and drinking God's judgment upon yourself. GALATIANS…THE GOSPEL OF GRACE…GIVES US FREEDOM THROUGH FAITH…TO BRING GLORY TO GOD! GOD CANNOT FAIL IN PERFECTLY KEEPING HIS PROMISE…AND MAN CANNOT SUCCEED IN PERFECTLY KEEPING GOD'S LAW…GOD'S PLAN HAS ALWAYS BEEN FOR SALVATION TO COME BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH GOD CANNOT FAIL IN PERFECTLY KEEPING HIS PROMISE Galatians 3:15-18 ESV To give a human example, brothers: even with a man-made covenant, no one annuls it or adds to it once it has been ratified. [16] Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, "And to offsprings," referring to many, but referring to one, "And to your offspring," who is Christ. [17] This is what I mean: the law, which came 430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void. [18] For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise. A TEMPORARY LAW CANNOT NEGATE A PERMANENT COVENANT…GOD CANNOT FAIL IN PERFECTLY KEEPING HIS PROMISE MAN CANNOT SUCCEED IN PERFECTLY KEEPING GOD'S LAW Galatians 3:19-22 ESV Why then the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the offspring should come to whom the promise had been made, and it was put in place through angels by an intermediary. [20] Now an intermediary implies more than one, but God is one. [21] Is the law then contrary to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness would indeed be by the law. [22] But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. THE LAW SHOWS SINNERS THEIR GUILT…GRACE SHOWS THEM THE FORGIVENESS THEY CAN HAVE IN CHRIST

GALATIANS…THE GOSPEL OF GRACE…GIVES US FREEDOM THROUGH FAITH…TO BRING GLORY TO GOD! ABRAHAM WAS SAVED BY FAITH AND SO ARE WE Galatians 3:6-9 ESV just as Abraham "believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness"? [7] Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. [8] And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, "In you shall all the nations be blessed." [9] So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith. CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO BE SAVED BY THE LAW…AND IS NOT PERFECT Galatians 3:10-12 ESV For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, "Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them." [11] Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for "The righteous shall live by faith." [12] But the law is not of faith, rather "The one who does them shall live by them." CHRIST WAS PERFECT SO HE COULD REDEEM US FROM THE CURSE OF THE LAW…MAKE US A PART OF GOD'S PROMISE TO ABRAHAM…AND GIVE US THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT Galatians 3:13-14 ESV Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us-for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree"- [14] so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith. DO YOU WANT TO BE FREE FROM THE CURSE OF THE LAW? COME TO CHRIST! DO YOU WANT THE BLESSING OF ABRAHAM? COME TO CHRIST! DO YOU WANT THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT? THEN COME TO CHRIST!

Sermon Notes: GALATIANS…THE GOSPEL OF GRACE…WHICH GIVES US FREEDOM THROUGH FAITH…TO BRING GLORY TO GOD! QUIT STRADDLING THE IMAGINARY FENCE…THERE IS NO FENCE! Galatians 5:16-26 NLT So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves. [17] The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. [18] But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses. [19] When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, [20] idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, [21] envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. [22] But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! [24] Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. [25] Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit's leading in every part of our lives. [26] Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another. GET YOUR EYES BACK ON JESUS…AND OFF OF YOU…AND WHAT YOU THINK YOU CAN DO Galatians 3:1-7 AMPC O you poor and silly and thoughtless and unreflecting and senseless Galatians! Who has fascinated or bewitched or cast a spell over you, unto whom-right before your very eyes-Jesus Christ (the Messiah) was openly and graphically set forth and portrayed as crucified? [2] Let me ask you this one question: Did you receive the [Holy] Spirit as the result of obeying the Law and doing its works, or was it by hearing [the message of the Gospel] and believing [it]? [Was it from observing a law of rituals or from a message of faith?] [3] Are you so foolish and so senseless and so silly? Having begun [your new life spiritually] with the [Holy] Spirit, are you now reaching perfection [by dependence] on the flesh? [4] Have you suffered so many things and experienced so much all for nothing (to no purpose)-if it really is to no purpose and in vain? [5] Then does He Who supplies you with His marvelous [Holy] Spirit and works powerfully and miraculously among you do so on [the grounds of your doing] what the Law demands, or because of your believing in and adhering to and trusting in and relying on the message that you heard? [6] Thus Abraham believed in and adhered to and trusted in and relied on God, and it was reckoned and placed to his account and credited as righteousness (as conformity to the divine will in purpose, thought, and action). [7] Know and understand that it is [really] the people [who live] by faith who are [the true] sons of Abraham. QUIT STRADDLING THE IMAGINARY FENCE…THERE IS NO FENCE! GALATIANS…THE GOSPEL OF GRACE…WHICH GIVES US FREEDOM THROUGH FAITH…TO BRING GLORY TO GOD! Galatians 1:10-24 ‘Obviously, I'm not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ's servant. Dear brothers and sisters, I want you to understand that the gospel message I preach is not based on mere human reasoning. I received my message from no human source, and no one taught me. Instead, I received it by direct revelation from Jesus Christ. You know what I was like when I followed the Jewish religion—how I violently persecuted God's church. I did my best to destroy it. I was far ahead of my fellow Jews in my zeal for the traditions of my ancestors. But even before I was born, God chose me and called me by his marvelous grace. Then it pleased him to reveal his Son to me so that I would proclaim the Good News about Jesus to the Gentiles. When this happened, I did not rush out to consult with any human being. Nor did I go up to Jerusalem to consult with those who were apostles before I was. Instead, I went away into Arabia, and later I returned to the city of Damascus. Then three years later I went to Jerusalem to get to know Peter, and I stayed with him for fifteen days. The only other apostle I met at that time was James, the Lord's brother. I declare before God that what I am writing to you is not a lie. After that visit I went north into the provinces of Syria and Cilicia. And still the churches in Christ that are in Judea didn't know me personally. All they knew was that people were saying, “The one who used to persecute us is now preaching the very faith he tried to destroy!” And they praised God because of me.' GALATIANS…THE GOSPEL OF GRACE…WHICH GIVES US FREEDOM THROUGH FAITH…TO BRING GLORY TO GOD! DITCH CHRIST AND TRUST YOURSELF AGAIN??? Galatians 1:6-7 ESV I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel- [7] not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. DITCH THE PEOPLE TEACHING YOU THAT BLASPHEMY AND ASK GOD TO CURSE THEM SO NO ONE ELSE CAN BE MISLED Galatians 1:8-9 ESV But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. [9] As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed. GALATIANS…THE GOSPEL OF GRACE…WHICH GIVES US FREEDOM THROUGH FAITH…TO BRING GLORY TO GOD! THE MESSENGER: FILLED WITH GOD'S SPIRIT Galatians 1:1-2 ESV Paul, an apostle-not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead- [2] and all the brothers who are with me, To the churches of Galatia: Acts 9:1-19 ESV But Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest [2] and asked him for letters to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. [3] Now as he went on his way, he approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven shone around him. [4] And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?" [5] And he said, "Who are you, Lord?" And he said, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. [6] But rise and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do." [7] The men who were traveling with him stood speechless, hearing the voice but seeing no one. [8] Saul rose from the ground, and although his eyes were opened, he saw nothing. So they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus. [9] And for three days he was without sight, and neither ate nor drank. [10] Now there was a disciple at Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, "Ananias." And he said, "Here I am, Lord." [11] And the Lord said to him, "Rise and go to the street called Straight, and at the house of Judas look for a man of Tarsus named Saul, for behold, he is praying, [12] and he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him so that he might regain his sight." [13] But Ananias answered, "Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he has done to your saints at Jerusalem. [14] And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on your name." [15] But the Lord said to him, "Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel. [16] For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name." [17] So Ananias departed and entered the house. And laying his hands on him he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus who appeared to you on the road by which you came has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit." [18] And immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he rose and was baptized; [19] and taking food, he was strengthened. For some days he was with the disciples at Damascus. THE MESSAGE: RIGHT WITH GOD'S WORD Galatians 1:3-4 ESV Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, [4] who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, THE MOTIVATION: TO BRING GLORY TO GOD Galatians 1:5 ESV to whom be the glory forever and ever. A Simple Christmas Luke 2:1-3 ESV In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. [2] This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. [3] And all went to be registered, each to his own town. Luke 2:4-5 ESV And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, [5] to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. Luke 2:6-7 ESV And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. [7] And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. Luke 2:8-10 ESV And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. [9] And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. [10] And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Luke 2:11-14 ESV For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. [12] And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger." [13] And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, [14] "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!" Luke 2:15-16 ESV When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us." [16] And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. Luke 2:17-20 ESV And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. [18] And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. [19] But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. [20] And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.

THE CHRIST OF CHRISTMAS ONE DAY THE GOVERNMENT WILL BE PERFECT Isaiah 9:1-5 ESV But there will be no gloom for her who was in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time he has made glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations. [2] The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone. [3] You have multiplied the nation; you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as they are glad when they divide the spoil. [4] For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian. [5] For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire. BECAUSE THE ONE GOVERNING IT WILL BE PERFECT Isaiah 9:6 ESV For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. AND HIS PERFECTION WILL LAST FOREVER Isaiah 9:7 ESV Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this. A PERFECT GOVERNMENT! RUN BY A PERFECT RULER! THAT WILL LAST FOREVER...WILL YOU BE A PART OF IT?

THE CHRIST OF CHRISTMAS JESUS EMPTIED HIMSELF OF HIS SOVEREIGNTY Philippians 2:5-7a ESV Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, [6] who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, [7] but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. JESUS BECAME A SLAVE…IN TOTAL SUBMISSION TO HIS FATHER Philippians 2:7b ESV but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. JESUS BECAME A MAN BUT NEVER LOST HIS DIETY Philippians 2:7c ESV but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. JESUS HUMBLED HIMSELF TO DO SOMETHING FOR US THAT WE COULDN'T DO FOR OURSELVES Philippians 2:8 ESV And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. JESUS BECAME THE EXALTED LORD OF GLORY Philippians 2:9-11 ESV Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, [10] so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, [11] and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. IF YOU BELONG TO JESUS… EMPTY YOURSELF OF ANY SOVEREIGNTY THAT YOU THINK YOU MIGHT HAVE… AND BECOME A SLAVE…IN TOTAL SUBMISSION TO GOD, OUR HEAVENLY FATHER… IF YOU DON'T BELONG TO JESUS…RECOGNIZE THAT ON THE CROSS, JESUS DID SOMETHING FOR YOU THAT YOU COULDN'T DO FOR YOURSELF… AND RECOGNIZE JESUS AS YOUR SAVIOR AND LORD…BEFORE YOU HAVE TO RECOGNIZE HIM ONLY AS LORD.
