We are LIVE from Row House Cinema for our first ever mystery movie! We put 11 movies on a big ol' wheel, and it landed on a Pittsburgh classic! We're just some Steel Town girls on a Saturday night (really, recorded on a Saturday), and we're revisiting the montages, the leg warmers, the erotic shellfish and the unacceptable power dynamics of this toe-tapping hit! Note: We picked up some static here and there in recording, so you'll here some microphone noise on the recording. Sorry about that!
Wind's in the east, mist coming in, like the hand of fate has delivered MARY POPPINS to the podcast! Which host was downright blissful about this movie? The answer may surprise you! Also, hear all about our upcoming takeover of Row House Cinema (starting Friday, Feb. 3), and stick around for a movie draft! This week's recommendations: Sean and Robin saw PLANE and have differing opinions. Kahmeela and Robin saw THE MENU and ... have differing opinions. Kahmeela liked THE WHALE, Sean liked SICK and Robin liked HONK FOR JESUS.
George Romero's 1968 movie “Night of The Living Dead” is a cult classic. The horror flick is considered the godfather of the flesh-eating zombie genre and it was filmed in Pittsburgh with local talent. Judith O'Dea, better known as Barbara in the movie, may have been turned into a ghoul in the end, but she's joining us to talk about what it was like making the iconic film. Consider this your Halloween treat! You can catch a Halloween screening of "Night of the Living Dead" tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Row House Cinema. Our newsletter is fresh daily at 6 a.m. Sign up here. Not all of us are in love with Clea DuVall’s latest film, Happiest Season, which is a Christmas romantic comedy on Hulu starring Kristen Stewart, Mackenzie Davis, Aubrey Plaza, and many more. Will and Abby take some time to review the latest “Small Axe” film from Steve McQueen on Amazon Prime Video: Lovers Rock. The whole gang joins the fun of The Twentieth Century, Matthew Rankin’s absurdist festival indie that might’ve stolen all our hearts. We also cover our mixed feelings on Alan Ball’s latest film since 2007, Uncle Frank, which boasts strong performances from Paul Bettany, Peter Macdissi, and Sophia Lillis. And last, Jon discusses Zappa, Alex Winter’s eclectic new documentary about the life of the infamous guitarist Frank Zappa. Well, we made it through spooky season in one piece. As our last hurrah before the onslaught of the tryptophan induced coma of Thanksgiving or the maddening sounds of xmas music on repeat, we thought we would share the special live intro we did to a screening of Candyman at our favorite local theater, Row House Cinema in Pittsburgh, PA. It's a fairly short and sweet episode, but it is packed with a lot of information about the film along with some killer commentary on the many facets of what might be one of the most untraditional horror films to come out of the early 90s. So do you dare say his name 5 times? Come join us as we dive into the world of Candyman. Use the coupon code "psychosnation" and save 25% on our TeePublic Store! Grab a glass of Nilbog milk, maniacs, because we've got a bonus live episode with actor/dentist George Hardy of Troll 2! We conducted a Q&A with George last night before a rowdy sold out screening of the film at Pittsburgh's own Row House Cinema and were able to capture it in all its wild glory. We talk about his life after Troll 2, his cult actor status, upcoming project he has in the wings, and there's even a surprise in the crowd towards the end. Eternal thanks to George for joining us, Travis for asking us to be a part of the event, Jamie and the rest of the crew at Row House for their hospitality (which they definitely did not piss on), and everyone that made the night a raucous success!

Got a movie you want us to review or feedback on the show? Contact us cinemapsychosshow@gmail.com This week, we are joined by Travis Ayers (AKA Travey Valley) with a special live event episode as we introduce Video Valley III at Row House Cinema in Pittsburgh, PA. The film we introduced was the 1987 recently discovered cult film, "Miami Connection". A film that literally feels like the brain child of a pre pubescent boy obsessed with ninjas, synth rock, bikers, and women in bikinis. This film is literally a poster child for so bad it is good cinema. A definite watch with friends and lots of alcohol. Take a listen to our breakdown of "Miami Connection!" Row House Cinema is an independent, single screen theater in Lawrenceville. The basement houses Bierport, a bar with retro video games. Row House Cinema began as the dream of Brian Mendelson, enjoying beer at the movies for a fun night out. The remodel took over four and a half years. How they select movies and themes each week using the opinions of staff and public. There is no real formula. Creating a balance between different types of movies they show. Describing the joy of seeing some movies on the big screen. The fun of watching a bad movie with friends in a theater. Which movies they thought would sell well, but didn't (hint: a lot of 80's comedies). Using special events and gimmicks to sell movies. Process to get rights to show movies. Creating a wish list and having patience. Witches Week October 12th-18th. Row House of Horrors Week October 19th-31st. Combing the genres of of horror and comedy. How sound and a dark theater really ups the movie experience. Analog look back: Mystery movie played on a VCR. Travis' Jack Black story. Amanda and Steve are drinking Sierra Nevada this week. As far as recommendations for where to eat, they're going with a tried and true - get yourself to MadMex. For drinks however, they're switching things up a little. Their recommendation this week is Korner Pub. It is October in Pittsburgh, and there are certainly plenty of things to check out. With the super nice weather we're having, it's the perfect time to check out some outside options, too! Steve and Amanda run down this week's hot spots starting with the Celebration of George Romero at Row House Cinema, Millvale Food Truck Round Up, Kennywood Happy Hauntings, Rick-or-Treat Glow Golf at Fun Fore All in Cranberry, Equus at the O'Reilly Theater, and Rocky Horror Picture Show (practically everywhere this time of year). An extra special, only Pittsburgh event is the reopening of the Greenfield Bridge! The final recommendation from Amanda and Steve is to check out your local pubs for Halloween parties - especially if you don't have your Halloween plans locked down yet. As usual, Amanda and Steve wrap up the show with their He Said/She Said segment! This week they're talking about checking out other people. After the show remember to: Follow the discussion on Twitter (@Boldpgh) You can support the show on Patreon! Great Scott! In honor of Row House Cinema's third anniversary, Sean and Aaron head to the Lawrenceville theater for a screening of BACK TO THE FUTURE. Will they call it one of the best movies ever or simply the best? Plus, YCHTT's first musical guest, kinda, in the form of Lorenzo's Oil! Not the movie! Twitter @TruthPodcast @SeanCollierPgh @AaronKleiber Facebook /HandletheTruthPodcast www.HandletheTruthPodcast.com Comedians, critics, actors... lots of things apply to your hosts. What matters here is that they watch movies before most people, and then tell you about them. Truthfully. If you can handle the truth. Every week we bring you reviews of movies, recorded immediately after an advance screening. No critical distance, no pretension. Just our thoughts, before we even get home.
Sean and Aaron reviewed the remake of Magnificent Seven earlier this year, so it's only natural that they deal with the original. No, not the Yul Brynner one, the ORIGINAL — Kurosawa's Seven Samurai. And thanks to Row House Cinema, they did it with bento boxes and tea! Plus: no politics! We promise!
This week Larry welcomes Brian Mendelssohn, owner of Row House Cinema, to talk about the theater he owns in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA. They get into the genesis of the theater, what goes into selecting movies, negotiating with studios, movies they watched growing up, and Star Trek 50th Anniversary week starting September 2. Go to rowhousecinema.com for ticket info.
Our final live broadcast from the YCHTT takeover of Row House Cinema pits Sean against special guest Curt Wootton, also known as Pittsburgh Dad, in a fight over the quality of Friday the 13th! Will Curt convince Sean of the horror classic's merits? Will Sean just give up after two weeks of defeat? Listen and find out!
Okay, so Aaron easily won the first Row House Cinema movie fight, as the live crowd unanimously agreed that THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION is not overrated. But will the guests at this very special live recording turn on Aaron to side with Sean and say that Kevin Smith's CLERKS is a comedy classic? Find out as our series of live events continues!
Larry and Greg O. went to Row House Cinema in Pittsburgh to check out John Carpenter's The Thing. It was Larry's first time seeing it and he reacted strongly. The pair talk about that film in detail as well as Carpenter's career overall, his collaborations with Kurt Russell, his coupling with Adrienne Barbeau, and more. They even touch a little on Jean-Claude Van Damme, for some reason. This episode features a partial performance of Toto's Rosanna and a full version of Hold the Line, as originated by the late, great, Jeff Porcaro.
Sean and Aaron are live at Row House Cinema to watch THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION. Aaron says it's one of his favorite movies, worthy of its lofty reputation; Sean says it's a very good movie that people love way too much. Who will the Row House crowd side with? Find out in this special episode!
Sean and Aaron have donned their tuxedos (spoiler: no they haven't) to run down the nominees and likely winners for this year's Academy Awards. Ace your office pool! Plus, all the details on next week's YCHTT takeover of Row House Cinema!
