Back in 2010 when I first started podcasting I had a short lived show called "The Saint Mort Show". Most of this content is long gone because it was poorly made BUT it was the place where I first cut my teeth as a podcaster and on the first episode I talked to Troll 2 star George Hardy about the movie, the Best Worst Movie documentary and his new projects which included a film called Ghost Shark 2: Urban Jaws. Enjoy this despite the mediocre sound quality. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
This week we are talking about the best worst movie Troll 2, including green goo, sexy corn, goblins, dentists, whether or not you can piss on hospitality (you can't, I won't allow it), Harry Potter, war criminal ghosts, language barriers, but absolutely zero trolls. It stars Michael Stephenson, George Hardy, Connie McFarland, and Jason Wright. The plot follows Joshua Waits as he tries to save his family after the spirit of his deceased grandfather warns him that the town of Nilbog, where the family are spending their vacation, is inhabited by goblins who turn people into plant matter to eat them. Although produced under the original title Goblins, American distributors marketed it as a sequel to the 1986 horror film Troll. However, the two are unrelated and Troll 2 features goblins rather than trolls. The film was produced by Filmirage; development was rife with difficulties, largely due to the language barrier between the Italian-speaking crew and English-speaking cast, and producer Joe D'Amato's approach to low-budget filmmaking. It was released on October 12, 1990 by Epic Productions, and some considered it to be one of the worst movies ever made. In subsequent years, the film has gained a cult following. Though it was generally viewed as a poorly made horror film, the filmmakers stated that it was "always intended to be a comic film." Stephenson later directed the critically acclaimed 2009 documentary Best Worst Movie about the production and subsequent popularity of Troll 2.
Is this our longest title ever? First, Indy reviews several basketball documentaries including; Bill Russell: Legend, Bad Boys, I Hate Christian Laetner, This Magic Moment, Crossover: The Trial of Allen Iverson, Malice at the Palace, and we have a not so brief divergence into the role of Allen Iverson in America's cultural battlefields. Then, Samantha recommends Star Crossed: A True WWII Romeo and Juliet Love Story in Hitler's Paris by Heather Dune Macadam & Simon Worrall. Lt. Col, George Hardy (99 years old) is a remarkable individual and an American hero. His story, of joining the Army Air Corps in 1943 at the age of 17, eager to join the war in defense of our country, is one shared by many young warriors of the time. But what sets Col. Hardy's story apart is that, as a young African American man during the 1940s, his path to service and in particular to becoming a fighter pilot made him part of the historic group of young men known as the Tuskegee Airman. Col. Hardy flew 21 combat missions over Germany in 1945, escorting bombers to their targets. Following the war, he returned to Tuskegee to pay it forward and train new pilots. In 1948, he rejoined another war effort, flying B-29 bombers in 45 combat missions in the Korean War and continued to serve our country through the Vietman War, flying 70 missions at the controls of a C-119 gunship, protecting troops on the ground. Decorations: Dist. Flying Cross with Valor, Air Medal with 11 Oak Leaf Clusters and commendation medal with 1 oak leaf cluster. Although Col. Hardy did not feel well enough to join us at show time, his dear friend and colleague, Dr. Joi Spraggins, graciously volunteered to join us this evening for a discussion honoring Col. Hardy, and shedding light on this amazing man. “SocialFlight Live!” is a live broadcast dedicated to supporting General Aviation pilots and enthusiasts during these challenging times. It had to happen. We finally check out the infamous, the legendary, the nigh-on-indescribable work that defined a generation, 1990's Troll 2. Directed by Claudio Fragasso and starring Michael Paul Stephenson, George Hardy, and Deborah Reed, Troll 2 has exactly zero connection to the movie Troll and indeed zero trolls in it. But does it deserve the reputation and cult following that it has? Float along with the manatees to the mysterious town of Nilbog as they talk sorcery, lavender dating, geography, and what makes a life well lived while trying to decode this mind-bending work that the world still isn't ready for and probably never will be. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/matinee-manatees/support

Is Troll 2 the best worst movie to ever be made? We are joined by actor George Hardy of this cherished cult class film to discuss his journey making the film and the roller coaster ride he has been on as his movie that was initially considered a dud went to cult status. George discusses the film as well as the documentary about the film, Best Worst Movie, and his latest films Texas Cotton and Cyst. Special thanks to DJ Cryptkicker for the intro and outro music. First of all I keep incorrectly stating the film's name. Today's bonus watch-a-long episode is the 1990 horror-comedy film Troll 2. The film centers around the suburban Waits family who are taking part in a cultural exchange with a family in a small rural town. The town is filled with vegetarian goblins who seek to mutate the family into plants so that they can eat them. Troll 2 was directed by Claudio Fragasso (under the pseudonym Drake Floyd) and stars Michael Stephenson, George Hardy, Margo Prey, Connie McFarland, Deborah Reed, and Jason Wright. It's the best worst movie and was conveniently filmed right here in our backyard. Luckily we got to speak with George Hardy who played a big part in making this movie what it is today.

Greg Sestero also wrote the screenplay and costarred with Tommy Wiseau in the movie Best F(r)iends, and has appeared in other such films like Dude Bro Party Massacre III, and upcoming film Cyst, which also stars Darren Ewing and George Hardy who are famous from So Bad It's Good cult classic Troll 2. Next week's sequel is "Troll 2" and this week we are talking to Actor George Hardy who plays the father, Michael Waits, in the movie. George Hardy is a dentist who always wanted to act and while practicing dentistry in Utah back in the early 90s had the chance to be in a low-budget movie called "Troll 2". George had no clue at the time how this movie would change his life forever, but not until after a decade after the film's release. He provided a lot of behind the scene stories from "Troll 2" and also the documentary about it, called "Best Worst Movie". George is the nicest guy ever and you are going to love our chat. This week we are discussing the kid's movie"Munchie Strikes Back", well I think it's for kids. We brought back our Munchie expert Nick, who helped us with the last Munchie sequel, to help us decipher this one. We discussed Munchie possibly blowing up a school, the odd celebrities waiting for him in heaven, the bad baseball, dad's glamour shots, and more. This movie is WILD. You can watch our video review here sequelsonly.com/munchiestrikesback The next sequel we are reviewing is "Troll 2", which is dubbed the "Best Worst Movie" by fans and with a documentary bearing the same name. Boy do we have an awesome interview for you, I chatted with "Michael Waits" himself, actor and dentist, George Hardy. George talked about the filming of it and how he came to audition, its cult following, getting back into acting, and lots more. We have a bonus sized Cystmas/ Christmas special for you this week, goons! Jake interviews Eva Habermann, star of Lexx, Under ConTroll (Troll World), and of course-- CYST! We discuss her working relationship with George Hardy and how his cameo in Under ConTroll ended up being responsible for Cyst ever even being conceived. It is remarkable just how many cast members and crew overlap from Under ConTroll to Cyst. Ade discusses whether or not horror is misogynist. She gives several examples as to how/ why horror is actually empowering to women. Some lesser known films she discusses are American Mary, The Blackcoat's Daughter, and Starry Night. Then, of course, we discuss the big mamajama that started it all: Black Christmas (1974, no... not those abominable remakes! Those we talk about on the Patreon Bonus). Just in time for Halloween, Luna Cinemas are premiering a new horror film called Cyst on Friday Oct 30th, which is set in the 1960s and focuses on an unlucky nurse's last day working for a cyst surgeon who is slowly going mad. When a new invention that can help with cyst removals goes horribly wrong, a new monster is born, resulting in a comedy-horror movie that is violently icky and darkly funny. Movie Squad were fortunate enough to interview the cast and crew of Cyst, namely director Tyler Russell, star/executive producer Eva Habermann, star George Hardy (from Troll 2) and star Greg Sestero (from The Room and author of The Disaster Artist). Simon Miraudo and Tristan Fidler also discuss the return of original episodes to the Movie Squad podcast so keep an eye out in 2020 and 2021 for more great film chat! For this series, we're taking a trip to Nilbog (it's "goblin" spelled backwards!) to celebrate the best worst movie ever made. In this special bonus episode, we (virtually) sit down with George Hardy, star of both TROLL 2 and BEST WORST MOVIE to discuss his memories of making both of those films, who from the cast he keeps in touch with, his recent and upcoming film roles, and just how he's keeping busy during the quarantine. A big thank you to Mr. Hardy for putting aside some time for this discussion! We had a blast and can't wait to talk to him again down the line! This episode was written and produced and edited by Justin Bishop and Gary Horne. Theme song: “Foreign Body” by the Slasher Film Festival Strategy from their album PSYCHIC SHIELD. Get ready to pig out this week, maniacs, because we're talking about 1987's Slaughterhouse with our buddy Travis Ayers! He was the party responsible for putting together our live Q&A with George Hardy last year so we're very excited to have him on the show. While we dissect the Bacon clan's dirty deeds, we also discuss topics like the dangerous playgrounds of yesteryear, Warped Tour, David Letterman and Slaughterhouse reworked as a sitcom.
When he joined the military, George Hardy and the other Tuskegee Airmen were not considered worthy of training and living among white service members. Despite that discrimination, Hardy and his fellow Tuskegee alumni distinguished themselves in the skies over Europe in World War II.In this episode of "Veterans Chronicles," Hardy tells us what it was like to be part of that trailblazing unit. He also describes the integration of the Air Force and how he saw attitudes of those around him change over time. Hardy also explains how he views the reverence for the Tuskegee Airmen today and why he feels compelled to share the Tuskegee story as much as possible.
This week, our own Johnny Hollywood sits down for an interview that has been a year in the making! For some, Troll 2 is considered one of the best worst movies ever made. Taking place in the town of Nilbog, Troll 2 tells the heartwarming tale of a family fighting against goblins trying to turn them into plant food. This week Nigel and Kaitlyn sit down with their guest, Bailey Doerfler, to discuss all of the quotable moments in the film, along with the inconsistencies of the title, the logic of turning humans into plant goop, as well as some of the other nonsensical decisions made during the production of this film. This week, fresh off of our 150th live stream extravaganza, we are going on an expedition to the German town of Baden Baden. The village is an anthropological find as we check out the cuisine, live game shows featuring celebrities like George Hardy, and of course the penchant for the citizens of the town to come down with a case of Troll Possession. We are of course talking about the new film from our friends over at Narrative Films, "Under ConTROLL." The film stars Troll 2's George Hardy and actress Eva Habermann, who you may know as the original Xev from the sci fi show LEXX. So let's dive into this wacky genre bending indie flick! Grab a glass of Nilbog milk, maniacs, because we've got a bonus live episode with actor/dentist George Hardy of Troll 2! We conducted a Q&A with George last night before a rowdy sold out screening of the film at Pittsburgh's own Row House Cinema and were able to capture it in all its wild glory. We talk about his life after Troll 2, his cult actor status, upcoming project he has in the wings, and there's even a surprise in the crowd towards the end. Eternal thanks to George for joining us, Travis for asking us to be a part of the event, Jamie and the rest of the crew at Row House for their hospitality (which they definitely did not piss on), and everyone that made the night a raucous success!
Originally a dentist by trade, George Hardy was practicing in Salt Lake City when he auditioned for Troll 2 at the urging of some of his patients. He ended up winning the role of farmer Michael Waits, head of the family that falls victim to the titular villains. Word of mouth slowly spread about Troll 2 regarding how laughably poor it was, allowing a loyal fanbase to develop. This reached a head with the Upright Citizens Brigades 2006 Troll 2 Experience screening, where Hardy was thrust back into the limelight as a guest of honor along with several other cast members. He is arguably the sweetest and kindest actor in Hollywood and he can do one hell of a root canal. Sit back and enjoy George Hardy on the next David Vox Mullen show.
Check out Texas Cotton today on Amazon Prime and Youtube We are back this week after a 3 week hiatus. This week we are breaking down the indie neo noir/western film, Texas Cotton. Ready For Takeoff - Turn Your Aviation Passion Into A Career
George E. Hardy in March 1943, at the age of 17, passed the written and physical examinations for the US Army Aviation Cadet program. In July 1943 he was called to active duty and sent to Keesler Army Air Field, Biloxi, Mississippi, for basic training. In September 1943 he was assigned to the 320th College Training Detachment at Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. His group was scheduled to take college-level courses, at Tuskegee Institute, for a period of five months. This training was cut short in the beginning of December, as his group was transferred to Tuskegee Army Air Field (TAAF) for Aviation Cadet training, as part of Class 44-H. In September 1944 he graduated as a single-engine pilot and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. In November he was transferred to Walterboro AAF in South Carolina for combat flying training in P-47 aircraft. This combat flying training was completed in early February 1945, and he was shipped overseas to Italy. In Italy, he was assigned to the 99th Fighter Squadron, 332nd Fighter Group, where he flew 21 combat missions over Germany in P-51 aircraft. Those missions were mainly high-altitude escort missions of heavy bombers, but many of the missions also included strafing of ground targets. He returned from Italy in August 1945 and served at TAAF, until it closed in the summer of 1946. In July 1946 he was transferred to Lockbourne AAF, Ohio where he was assigned to the 99th Fighter Squadron, flying P-47 aircraft. He was discharged from active duty in November 1946. He attended New York University, School of Engineering, in the Bronx, from September 1947 to May 1948. He was recalled to active duty at Lockbourne Air Force Base (LAFB), Ohio, in June 1948. He was assigned to the 301st Fighter Squadron, 332nd Fighter Group, flying P-47 aircraft. In September 1948 he was reassigned as a student in the Airborne Electronics Maintenance Officers Course at Keesler AFB, Mississippi. The course of study covered radar and long-range navigational equipment on fighter and bomber aircraft. He graduated in August 1949. In July 1949 the USAF instituted racial integration and personnel at Lockbourne AFB were reassigned to Air Force bases worldwide. After graduation in August 1949, he was transferred to the 19th Bomb Group (B-29 Aircraft) on the island of Guam. He was further assigned to the 28th Bomb Squadron as a maintenance officer. His primary job was supervising about 25 airmen in maintenance of electronic equipment on the assigned aircraft. As a pilot he was also required to fly and was assigned as a copilot on a B-29 aircrew. The Korean War started 25 June 1950, and the 19th Bomb Group was transferred to Kadena Air Base, Okinawa. He flew 45 combat missions over Korea in the B-29 aircraft. In March 1951 he returned to the states and was assigned to 6th Bomb Wing, at Walker AFB in New Mexico, as a maintenance officer. In June 1951 he was transferred to Lowry AFB, Denver, Colorado for seven months training as an Armament Systems maintenance officer, specifically on B-36 aircraft. The B-36 aircraft was the largest aircraft in the Air Force, capable of intercontinental bombing missions without refueling. The armament systems field included not only the electronic navigational and bombing systems but also included the retractable gun turrets and maintenance and loading of the bomb bays. After the training at Lowry he was transferred back to Walker AFB and in December 1952 he was transferred to Carswell AFB, Ft Worth, Texas. He became part of the 42nd Bomb Wing (B-36 aircraft) and in March 1953 the wing was transferred to Limestone AFB, Maine. He served as a maintenance officer in the 42nd Armament and Electronics Maintenance Squadron (AEMS), until August 1955. In August 1955 he transferred to the United States Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright Patterson AFB, Dayton Ohio. He entered the undergraduate engineering program and in August 1957, received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. In September 1957 he was assigned to the 3rd AEMS, 3rd Bomb Wing (B- 57, Canberra aircraft) at Johnson Air Base, Japan. He was soon assigned as Maintenance Supervisor, a position he held for almost 3 years. The 3rd Bomb Wing areas of operations were in Japan, Korea and Okinawa. He became jet-qualified as a pilot and in 1959 he received the aerial rating of Command Pilot. In June 1960 he was promoted to the grade of Major. In November 1960 he transferred to Plattsburgh AFB, New York. He was assigned as Squadron Commander of the 4108th AEMS, in the 4108th Air Refueling Wing (KC–97aircraft). In the second half of 1962 his squadron held the 8th Air Force trophy for best AEMS squadron. In November 1962 he was notified by the Air Force Institute of Technology of his eligibility to apply for a new graduate level systems engineering course specializing in reliability engineering. He applied for the course and was reassigned, in January 1963, to the USAF Institute of Technology, at Wright Patterson AFB, Dayton Ohio. In August 1964 he graduated with a Master of Science Degree in Systems Engineering - Reliability. In September 1964 he was assigned to the Electronic Systems Division of Air Force Systems Command, at Hanscom AFB, Massachusetts. In 1965 he received his promotion to the grade of Lt. Col. In August 1966 he was assigned as Chief of Engineering and Program Manager, for the Development, Installation and Cutover of the 490L Overseas AUTOVON (AUTOmatic VOice Network) Communications Switches, part of the Department of Defense first worldwide direct dial telephone system. The AUTOVON services within the continental United States was provided by the various telephone companies. With completion of the overseas switches, the Department of Defense and other government agencies would have almost worldwide, direct dial telephone access. The initial sites in Europe, Panama and the Pacific were successfully cut over in 1969. At the end of 1969 he received notice of a flying assignment in Vietnam and was provided with refresher flight training as an AC-119K Gunship Aircraft Commander. He was assigned to the 18th Special Operations Squadron at Phan Rang Air Base in Vietnam in April 1970. Although the squadron headquarters was at Phan Rang Air Base, the aircraft were located at two operating locations, one at Udorn Air Base, in Thailand, and the other at DaNang Air Base in Vietnam. He was assigned as the Operating Location Commander at Udorn Air Base, Thailand through August 1970. Missions were flown at night over northern Laos searching for truck traffic from North Vietnam. In September 1970 he was transferred to DaNang Air Base in Vietnam as Operating Location Commander. Missions were flown at night over central portions of Laos looking for truck traffic from North Vietnam. He flew 70 combat missions before returning to the states in April 1971. In May of 1971 he was assigned to the Inspector General's office at Air Force Systems Command, Andrews AFB in Maryland. He served in the IG's office until November 1971 when he retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross with Valor, the Air Medal with eleven (11) Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster.
12/04/17Brian McLane is the founder of Splash Video & Palm Aisles PicturesHe shot a full length feature film with his iPhone:The Killer’s RequiemThe story revolves around Sonny Calabrese, a loving father and devoted son who spirals into madness after becoming the subject of a bet between angels and demons.During the first part of the podcast, we share an important announcement about the International Mobile Film Festival in San Diego next April which includes our guest.Brian McLane talks about his film being a feature length film and shooting it with an iPhone 6S. Brian shares how he backtracked into the film because it started as he was experimenting with his phone and making a film and how he was building the story as he went along. He then decided to make a feature film as other options for the story were not as exciting.Brian’s film is a musical because he is a musician and he had a video on MTV in the late 80’s and he wanted to have all his music in one place but not on a CD, he said that was outdated. He then came across the actors because he already knew them. Lloyd Kaufman is the founder of Troma Entertainment and his fame goes back to Rocky, The Karate Kid and a few other films. Jean Beauvoir of the band Plasmatics has a history that includes The Ramones. Tim Russ of Star Trek Voyager was also in the film and very helpful as a professional and a businessman. He also mentioned George Hardy. He then told us about the sound for his film and syncing for a full length feature film. He called his film a “Back Pack Production” and his guerrilla approach to filming with the iPhone. He talks about the H264 codec and it’s challenges to look great on the big screen which affected the syncing on the sound. He shared which part of the post-production process should be done before another and how sound should be the last part of post. He talks extensively about how he got creative to pull off filming with his phone without permits and how he still had to work with SAG (Screen Actors Guild) to get the actors approved. Brian shares many entertaining stories about how he pulled of shooting his film in different locations. He said, you want to “shoot by the pound.”The advice from Brian are well worth listening to regarding not only shooting and film production tips and techniques, but he also shares advice for planning how to import your footage and quality control in post production. He shot in 4k and the files were huge and the processing on his Macbook laptop was a challenge. He talks about lighting and the challenge when you shoot guerrilla style and you depend on natural light. He also mentions the rights of people in his shots and logos and such because you can get sued when you don’t have permits and are using locations with people who happen to be there. He learned that planning helps overcome some of the challenges of guerrilla filmmaking in post production. A lot of the challenges seemed to be with locations and lighting because when you put your film on a big screen it affects the resolution if the lighting is poor.Brian shares the musical aspect of his film because it’s a subtle rock musical supernatural film and the message of his film’s story.Watch the trailer for the film, The Killer’s Requiem by Brian McLane Follow Brian’s Facebook:International Mobile Film Festival:Become a Patron on our Patreon page to support us and listen to exclusive bonus podcasts with our guests as a thank you: SBP Podcast: The Voice of Mobile Film:Twitter : @SBPpodcast & *@SusyBotello *

Chris and Eric are joined by Phil Mackie as they journey to Nilbog to talk what may be the worst film ever made Troll 2. Troll 2 is a 1990 B-Horror comedy film that is an all out disaster. From bad acting and dialogue not making sense to cheap monster costumes and hilarious special fx, it's no wonder this film has been named the "Best Worst Movie". The movie was basically ignored upon its original release, but somehow over the years something magical happened. It fell into that weird "Cult Classic" category and people fell in love with it for its flaws. When you dig into it a little bit, you'll find that the behind the scenes stories are even strange that the movie itself. On this episode we examine this cult phenomena and have a fun chat with one of the stars of the film, George Hardy. Like most of the people with staring roles in this movie, he had no professional acting experience and was only hoping to land a role as an extra. Fate stepped in and George became the unlikely hero in this whole odd situation. George even treats us and delivers his now famous line from the film, "YOU CAN'T PISS ON HOSPITALITY, I WON'T ALLOW IT!" Enjoy! In this podcast episode I speak with Bryan Williams about his new documentary, showing in theaters one night only (Tues. 3/29/16, this week!) about the Tuskegee Airmen. Here's the intro from my article on RockinGodsHouse.com about the interview and the film: If a Tuskegee airman hadn’t walked into a diner on a certain day and time in 2007, the day that producer Bryan Williams was there for an important meeting–and if Bryan had not uttered a certain prayer only seconds before the legendary airman walked through the door and nodded at Bryan–an amazing series of events would not have unfolded. These subsequent events included everything from George Lucas (yes, that George Lucas, the one who made Star Wars) to bizarrely timed phone calls from strangers, to a rather grueling sit-down with Bill Cosby. And all of that is leading to a monumental theatrical release this Tuesday about one of the most inspiring stories to emerge from the twentieth century. I’m talking about the new documentary “In Their Own Words: The Tuskegee Airmen–the 75th Anniversary.” I had a chance to see an advance screening of it, and it is superb. It covers so much ground: tons of interviews with original Tuskegee Airmen, and it tells many fascinating stories, like when Eleanor Roosevelt ditched her Secret Service escort to fly with one of the African-American pilots (who would become a Tuskegee Airmen) to prove to the world that these men were just as good as any other pilots. It also tells the stories of the white pilots who stood up for the Tuskegee Airmen (and paid a heavy price for it). If you admire the Tuskegee Airmen, the famous African-American pilots who flew in combat during WWII, then you might be excited to know that this year marks their 75th anniversary. And what better way to commemorate their story by seeing this new documentary, which is playing in theaters one night only, Tues. March 29, 7pm local time. (Check the theater listings linked below.) Here is all the info from a recent press release: Fathom Events is partnering with Bryton Entertainment to present “In Their Own Words: The Tuskegee Airmen – The 75th Anniversary” in select U.S. cinemas for the first time ever on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. local time. This one-night cinema event features emotional interviews, rare photographs, archival footage and computer-generated recreations. Audiences will also experience an exclusive panel discussion captured at the National Air Force Museum with Tuskegee Airman Lt. Col. George Hardy, Former Administrator of NASA Col. Fred Gregory, as well as the producer Bryan Williams and director Denton Adkinson. Tickets for “In Their Own Words: The Tuskegee Airmen – The 75th Anniversary” can be purchased online by visiting www.FathomEvents.com or at participating theater box offices. Fans throughout the U.S. will be able to enjoy the event in nearly 200 movie theaters through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network.
