On the Monday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel and Edgar Snyder & Associates, the Post-Gazette's Adam Bittner and Christopher Carter wrap up Steelers OTAs with a focus on the 2026 NFL draft class. How should this group be viewed with Germie Bernard still the only player expected to contribute quickly? Can Max Iheanachor, Drew Allar, Gennings Dunker and/or Daylen Everette accelerate their respective timelines and make impacts the way names like Joey Porter Jr., Broderick Jones, Zach Frazier, Keeanu Benton, Mason McCormick and Derrick Harmon have in recent years under GM Omar Khan? And are we sleeping on the potential of specialist players like Kaden Wetjen, Eli Heidenreich and Riley Nowakowski to stand out within their roles? Our duo tackles those questions and more as new coach Mike McCarthy's first team starts to take shape around established stars like DK Metcalf, Aaron Rodgers, T.J. Watt and Cam Heyward. The Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac and Christopher Carter report from Steelers OTAs at the team's South Side facility. The explain how younger players including Drew Allar, Will Howard and others are getting more work this week with older veterans now off until training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. Were Allar and Howard able to make the most of their reps with Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph absent? Does Howard need to unseat Rudolph as Rodgers' primary backup to make the roster? Will GM Omar Khan and coach Mike McCarthy get enough value out of Darnell Washington following his extension last week to play alongside Pat Freiermuth for the long term? Is new DC Patrick Graham signaling intent to play more nickel defense with names like Jalen Ramsey, Joey Porter Jr., Jamel Dean, Jaquan Brisker and DeShon Elliott in the secondary? And what's the timeline for an extension for Porter Jr.? Our duo tackles those questions and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. On the Monday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel and Edgar Snyder & Associates, the Post-Gazette's Adam Bittner and Christopher Carter reset the major Steelers offseason storylines following OTAs and minicamp. They start with the quarterbacks and the competition to back up Aaron Rodgers. Is Will Howard the player under the most pressure to impress and hold on to his roster spot for 2026? How far is Drew Allar from competing meaningfully for the No. 2 role? And does Mason Rudolph have any potential to enjoy a renaissance in his 30s as QBs like Baker Mayfield, Gene Smith and Sam Darnold have elsewhere in the NFL? Especially with a known QB developer like Mike McCarthy as his head coach? Later, the guys look at the offensive lines, receivers and defense. How soon will NFL draft picks Max Iheanachor and Gennings Dunker have a chance to start next to established names like Zach Frazier, Mason McCormick and Troy Fautanu? Are Spencer Anderson and Dylan Cook in position to win the other starting spots for now? Where does Broderick Jones fit within that calculus? What have we seen from Michael Pittman Jr. and Germie Bernard in the early going as they join DK Metcalf and Roman Wilson? And where has new DC Patrick Graham's influence become most clear within that unit? Our duo tackles those questions and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
On the Friday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel and Edgar Snyder & Associates, the Post-Gazette's Christopher Carter and Noah Hiles digest a busy week of moves from the Steelers and their AFC North rivals. Did GM Omar Khan invest too much in depth players like Nick Herbig and Darnell Washington with extensions this week? Considering their lower depth chart status behind names like Alex Highsmith, Pat Freiermuth and T.J. Watt? Or do these moves set Khan up to potentially make some trades as he looks to bolster the roster around Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr., Jaylen Warren, Cam Heyward and others? Our duo tackles those questions, then ponders the implications of the Myles Garrett trade. Should Khan be more aggressive like the Rams if the goal is to compete meaningfully for a Super Bowl in 2026? Where does this deal leave the Cleveland Browns? And how will the absence of Garrett within the division impact the Steelers' playoff chances? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
In his weekly Pirates mailbag podcast, Post-Gazette insider Colin Beazley answers reader questions. Among them: Should fans be worried about ace Paul Skenes' recent results? Particularly with fast ball velocity dipping? What can GM Ben Cherington and manager Don Kelly to do to get the bullpen under control after another meltdown this week against the Astros? What are the best- and worst-case scenarios for Jared Jones in his return from injury? And could a prospect like Antwone Kelly begin to make an impact at the MLB level soon? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
On the Thursday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel and Edgar Snyder & Associates, the Post-Gazette's Adam Bittner and Christopher Carter react to news that the Steelers are re-signing Darnell Washington to a long-term contract extension. Was this deal a good one for GM Omar Khan and coach Mike McCarthy? Or will that depend upon how they use Washington alongside other receiving options like DK Metcalf, Germie Bernard, Michael Pittman Jr., Pat Freiermuth and Jaylen Warren? Is it a surprise that this deal got done before Joey Porter Jr.'s or Keeanu Benton's? And how does this deal impact those negotiations? Our duo tackles those questions. Then takes stock of the team's EDGE rusher situation following Nick Herbig's extension earlier in the week. Could the move necessitate a trade of Alex Highsmith or T.J. Watt before the season? And is the term still investing too heavily in a defense that isn't producing dominant results? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel and Edgar Snyder & Associates, the Post-Gazette's Adam Bittner and Christopher Carter ponder the future for players who've either been marginalized in the past or overlooked by many since the start of the NFL offseason workout program. Can Kaleb Johnson overcome his special teams gaffe that landed him in former coach Mike Tomlin's proverbial dog house and prove that he belongs in the backfield alongside Jaylen Warren and Rico Dowdle? How will Roman Wilson respond to offseason moves for Michael Pittman Jr. and Germie Bernard that figure to push him down the depth chart? And how will new coach Mike McCarthy use tight ends Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington? Our duo ponders those questions. Then analyzes Payton Wilson's ability to help teammate Patrick Queen shore up communication from the middle linebacker spot and chart a future for that position group with Queen's contract status uncertain past 2026. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
On the Friday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel and Edgar Snyder & Associates, the Post-Gazette's Christopher Carter welcomes sports columnist Noah Hiles to break down some hot topics from the week's OTAs. Can new defensive coordinator Patrick Graham fix the communication issues that have plagued the unit and annoyed fans? Or is that more of a problem with the players? How can Graham get the most out of veteran stars like T.J. Watt, Patrick Queen, Jalen Ramsey and Cam Heyward? What about his experience makes him the man for the job? What's the latest on the quarterback situation? How does Aaron Rodgers' official return affect Mason Rudolph, Will Howard and Drew Allar? Could they keep all four? Or is this a precursor to a Howard trade? Our duo tackles those topics and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Measles is on the rise across the U.S., and experts say outbreaks aren't hypothetical anymore. At least 40,000 PA students are missing required vaccines, and many schools have dropped below the 95% herd immunity threshold that helps stop epidemic-like spread. (Some Pittsburgh-area schools are dangerously low in the 70% range.) Why are districts letting kids attend school without vaccines or valid exemptions, and why isn't the state consistently stepping in? Mike Wereschagin, a reporter and editor with the Post-Gazette's investigative team, joins host Megan Harris to discuss his revelatory investigation and where we go from here. Mike and his team built a database where you can look up the vaccination rate at any school in PA, something the state itself doesn't provide. Check it out here. In his weekly Pirates mailbag video, Post-Gazette insider Colin Beazley answers reader questions. Among them: Will GM Ben Cherington and manager Don Kelly consider playing the recently promoted Endy Rodriguez often if he continues to hit? Especially with Henry Davis and Joey Bart struggling at the plate? Would Jhostynxon García be the first to get a call if an injury takes Ryan O'Hean, Oneil Cruz, Bryan Reynolds and/or Jake Mangum out of the outfield mix? Could Konnor Griffin regularly hit second against lefties as he did this week? And what are the chances former top pick Seth Hernandez makes it to Class AA Altoona this year after his recent promotion to Greensboro? Colin tackles those questions and more. On the Friday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel and Edgar Snyder & Associates, the Post-Gazette's Adam Bittner and Christopher Carter preview OTAs for the team, which begin next week at its South Side facility for the first time under new coach Mike McCarthy. What will the QB dynamic be with Will Howard and Mason Rudolph joining Drew Allar after his time in the spotlight for rookie minicamp? Especially with the Aaron Rodgers situation looming in the background? What will we see from new receivers Michael Pittman Jr. and Germie Bernard as they start to work with DK Metcalf and Roman Wilson? How will the offensive line sort itself out with Gennings Dunker, Max Iheanachor, Broderick Jones, Troy Fautanu, Mason McCormick, Dylan Cook and Spencer Anderson all looking to solidify roles next to Zach Frazier? And what does new DC Patrick Graham have in store for the secondary? Specifically safeties Jalen Ramsey and Jaquan Brisker? Our duo tackles those questions, then reacts to the Steelers' 2026 schedule that was released Friday and the inclusion of four night games and a Black Friday matchup to go with the previously announced trip to Paris to face the New Orleans Saints. After members of the Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh won their strike at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in late 2025, which had lasted for over 3 years, they were notified in January that the paper's wealthy owners, the Block family and Block Communications Inc., were shutting down operations. Then, in a stunning turn of events, the Post-Gazette was purchased in April by the Venetoulis Institute for Local Journalism, which also owns The Banner in Baltimore, MD. While Post-Gazette workers were cautiously optimistic about the news, the union learned last week that the Venetoulis Institute is cutting at least 40 percent of its staff, including 80 percent of the union workers who participated in the recently ended strike. In this episode of Working People, we speak with a panel of union members and former Post-Gazette employees about what will happen to them and their coworkers, to the Post-Gazette itself, and to journalism in the Steel City. Panelists include: Andrew Goldstein, a now-former Post-Gazette education reporter and still-acting president of the Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh; Helen Fallon, a longtime copyeditor for the Post-Gazette and professor emerita at Point Park University in Pittsburgh; and Erin Hebert, a now-former copyeditor and designer for the Post-Gazette and First Vice President of the Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh. Live around 5 p.m., Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise gives his thoughts on the team's quarterback situation after GM Omar Khan and coach Mike McCarthy selected Penn State's Drew Allar at that position in the third round of the NFL draft. What's next for Will Howard and Mason Rudolph now that Allar has joined them in the QB room for now? Will Aaron Rodgers finally join the roster formally soon? Or will he wait to see how the situation evolves? And which QB may be the odd man out if the Steelers are only able to keep three QBs rostered? Paul tackles those questions and offers general insight on the draft class that also including Max Iheanachor, Germie Bernard, Gennings Dunker, Kaden Wetjen and others. Live around 5 p.m., Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise gives his final thoughts on what the Steelers should do in the NFL draft. Should GM Omar Khan and coach Mike McCarthy be seeking playmakers at the receiver position in the form of Makai Lemon and Omar Cooper Jr. to play next to DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr.? Should their have their eye on offensive linemen, particularly Vega Ioane to replace Isaac Seumalo at guard? Where do quarterbacks including Ty Simpson, Drew Allar, Cole Payton, Taylen Green and Garrett Nussmeier fit into the equation for Paul with uncertainty still surrounding Aaron Rodgers? And what are the chances we could get a surprise pick? Paul tackles those questions and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Live around 5 p.m., Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to the Pirates' series split with the Washington Nationals this week at PNC Park. What should we make of Konnor Griffin's inconsistent start to his MLB career? Both at the plate and on defense, where he had an ugly error that cost the team three runs Thursday before redeeming himself with a triple? Can Oneil Cruz make his hot-hitting start last And what would that mean for the offense alongside names like Brandon Lowe, Ryan O'Hearn and Bryan Reynolds? And has Marcell Ozuna begun to shake out of his early slump and live up to the hype that accompanied his arrival during spring training? Paul tackles those questions and more. Live around 5 p.m., Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to the latest Steelers draft visits of the week, with Penn State guard Vega Ioane being the biggest name. Are GM Omar Khan and coach Mike McCarthy narrowing their focus on a player who could fill one of the team's biggest needs following the departure of Isaac Seumalo? Or are they simply doing their due diligence? And how would Ioane fit alongside fellow young linemen like Broderick Jones, Mason McCormick, Zach Frazier and Troy Fautanu? Paul tackles those questions, then ponders the visits of Iowa guard Beau Stephens and Ohio State tight end Will Kacmarek and what their additions could mean for the offense alongside stars like DK Metcalf, Jaylen Warren, Michael Pittman Jr. and Pat Freiermuth. The Michelin Guide is coming to Pittsburgh! The timing is kind of hilarious, since we just did an episode about why our city doesn't have — or need – Michelin star restaurants. Host Megan Harris and City Cast contributors Colin Williams and Hal B. Klein chat about this development, laugh about our clairvoyant conversation, and share which restaurants they think might (or might not) get a star. Plus, executive producer Mallory Falk joins to discuss a Washington Post editorial chiding Pittsburgh Public Schools for going remote during the NFL Draft. The team also gets into concerns about how our unhoused community might get treated during the draft, PA's first underground state park, and more bad news for Pittsburgh's brewery scene. Then, in a members-only fourth segment, we unpack a juicy profile of the Block brothers and share the latest gossip about the future of the Post-Gazette. Come celebrate Pittsburgh with us on 412 Day! Live around 5 p.m., Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise ponders the NFL draft future of top Pitt prospect Kyle Louis. Should GM Omar Khan and coach Mike McCarthy consider the decorated Panthers linebacker as a Day 2 pick? Would his skills overlap too closely with those of current Steelers linebackers Cole Holcomb, Patrick Queen and Payton Wilson? Or do the Steelers need to add to the group with Queen's contractual future in Pittsburgh uncertain? And are there positions Khan simply needs to focus on more urgently to surround stars like T.J. Watt, Cam Heyward, Joey Poter Jr., DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr. and -- possibly -- Aaron Rodgers? Paul tackles those questions and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Live around 5 p.m., Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise ponders which outcome would be better for the Steelers at the end of the 2026 season. Another playoff loss? Or the first overall pick in the NFL draft? Is one more run with names like Cam Heyward, T.J. Watt and Aaron Rodgers worth chasing? Or would the long-term outlook for younger stars like DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr., Joey Porter Jr., Derrick Harmon and others be better is they could add a top choice to their ranks? Would GM Omar Khan and coach Mike McCarthy be closer to a Super Bowl victory with another spot in the postseason tournament? Or a chance at a franchise QB in the form of expect top 2027 picks Arch Manning, Dante Moore and Jayden Maiava? Paul tackles those questions and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Live around 5 p.m., Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to news Steelers coach Mike McCarthy telling reporters at the NFL owners meetings that he valued QB Will Howard more highlight than the sixth-round pick he was chosen with in 2025. Is McCarthy right in making that statement? Or is he potentially too high on a player 32 teams -- including the Steelers -- who passed over Howard several times in that draft? What are the implications of McCarthy's confidence in Howard for 2026? Could he really be the starting QB if Aaron Rodgers retires? Might the Steelers even prefer that outcome? And how might Mason Rudolph feel about that? Paul tackles those questions and gives his thoughts on other highlights from the owners meetings, including McCarthy's comments about T.J. Watt and Cam Heyward? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Live around 5 p.m., Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to former Steelers linebacker James Harrison saying on his podcast that he's had conversations with Bengals QB Joe Burrow about changing teams and heading to Pittsburgh. Is Harrison serious? Is there any world where the Bengals would give up their franchise QB to their division rival? Or is Harrison just manifesting a dream scenario with the Steelers' future at QB up in the air between Aaron Rodgers, Will Howard and Mason Rudolph? And in this hypothetical situation, should the Steelers even want to pursue the injury-riddled Burrow with a loaded 2027 NFL draft QB class looming that includes names like Dante Moore, Arch Manning and Jayden Maiava? Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts live after the Pirates' opening day matchup against the New York Mets. How did starter Paul Skenes look in his first action of 2026? Could he be on his way to another Cy Young award? Was the new-look offense effective, with names like Marcell Ozuna, Ryan O'Hearn, Jake Mangum, Brandon Lowe and others joining Oneil Cruz and Bryan Reynolds? And were Isaac Mattson, Denis Santana, Hunter Barco and the bullpen able to get their job done? Paul tackles those questions and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The Trump administration is sending ICE agents to 14 airports across the country, including Pittsburgh International, to help with security during the partial government shutdown. Host Megan Harris and Sophia Lo share what we know so far, and explain why the airport opened a food pantry for its own employees. Plus, they give a status update on our city's preparations for the NFL Draft, get excited for the start of Kennywood and Pirates seasons (including the new menu items at PNC Park), and question Heinz's latest products. Live around 5 p.m., Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise weighs in on news that Steelers coach Mike McCarthy personally attended the pro day of LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier this week. Is this a signal of genuine interest in Nussmeier on the part of McCarthy and GM Omar Khan? Or just a courtesy to Nussmeier's father, Doug, who worked under McCarthy with the Dallas Cowboys? How does Nussmeier compare to other QBs in this draft including Drew Allar, Ty Simpson and Cade Klubnik? And how would he fit within a quarterback group that could once again include future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers as well as 2025 backups Mason Rudolph and Will Howard? Our duo tackles those questions and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Live around 5 p.m., Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise explains why he feels the Steelers are in a no-win situation with regard to the 2026 NFL draft QB class. He compares his doubts about names like Ty Simpson, Drew Allar, Carson Beck and Garrett Nussmeier to feelings about 2022 QB class members including Kenny Pickett, Sam Howell, Desmond Ridder and others who, failed to make their mark in the league. He advocates for sticking with internal candidates like Will Howard and Mason Rudolph. Or last year's starter Aaron Rodgers, should he choose to return to GM Omar Khan and coach Mike McCarthy's team for another run. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Live around 5 p.m., Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to the pre-NFL draft visit of Miami Hurricanes QB Carson Beck to the Steelers' facility. Should GM Omar Khan and coach Mike McCarthy be legitimately interested in the college veteran? How does he compare to internal options Mason Rudolph and Will Howard? Could he be a viable starter if Aaron Rodgers doesn't return? One who could get the most out of weapons including DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr., Darnell Washington and Pat Freiermuth? And how does he match up with other draft options like Ty Simpson, Drew Allar, Garrett Nussmeier and Cade Klubnik? Paul tackles those questions and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Live around 5 p.m., Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to the Steelers' AFC North rival Baltimore Ravens pulling out of a trade to acquire star pass rusher Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders then subsequently signing Trey Hendrickson from the division rival Cincinnati Bengals. Did the dramatic turn of events help or hurt the Steelers in the long run? Should the Ravens be under scrutiny from the league for the way the ill-fated trade played out? Does the Ravens' roster depletion — which included names like Tyler Linderbaum and Isaiah Likely — make them vulnerable as the perceived 2026 frontrunners in the division? Or will star QB Lamar Jackson and running back Derrick Henry always make that team dangerous? Paul tackles those questions, plus gives his thoughts on the Cam Heyward extension and Darnell Savage signing from the Steelers. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Live around 5 p.m., Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to a quiet Day 2 of the "legal tampering" period before NFL free agency begins Wednesday. Has Steelers GM Omar Khan done enough to make his roster better with the additions of Michael Pittman Jr., Rico Dowdle and Jamel Dean? Or are clearer answers at the quarterback and guard positions still needed? Is Kirk Cousins a reasonable solution at QB if Aaron Rodgers decides to retire? Or should new coach Mike McCarthy focus on developing backup Will Howard? And what should we make of trade rumors swirling around linebacker Patrick Queen? Paul tackles those question, plus all the the action around the AFC North. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Live around 5 p.m., Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise welcomes Steelers insider Christopher Carter to react to the first day of the so-called "legal tampering" period ahead of NFL free agency. Specifically, they offer thoughts on major moves for Jamel Dean and Michael Pittman Jr. from GM Omar Khan and new coach Mike McCarthy. How much can Dean help the secondary across from Joey Porter Jr. at cornerback? What's next for Jalen Ramsey if Dean gets most reps outside? Where does Asante Samuel Jr. fit into the picture after re-signing earlier in the day? And could the Steelers still select a cornerback in the NFL draft next month. On the receiver front, how complete is the Steelers' group with Pittman joining Metcalf? Do they still need to land a big draft name like Denzel Boston, Jordyn Tyson, Makai Lemon or Carnell Tate? Or is Roman Wilson enough? Our duo tackles those questions, plus departures from names including Kenneth Gainwell and James Pierre. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Live around 5 p.m., Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers appearing on the Pat McAfee show and offering little insight about his future. Should GM Omar Khan, coach Mike McCarthy and the team be concerned about Rodgers retiring or joining up with another team for 2026? Or is this normal Rodgers gamesmanship? Why was Rodgers non-committal about his future less than a week after Khan said he expected an answer sooner than last year at the NFL combine? Is it time to start evaluating outside QB candidates like Kyler Murray, Daniel Jones, Malik Willis and others? What about internal options like Will Howard and Mason Rudolph? Paul tackles those questions and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

Executive producer Mallory Falk and producer Sophia Lo are with City Cast contributor and TribLive reporter Colin Williams to talk about whether the district will finally make a decision. Plus, they explain why Pine-Richland might reserve its controversial school library policy, and what that says about larger book ban efforts across the country. They also discuss ways to learn about and celebrate local Black history all year long, including attending the premiere of a new documentary about WAMO, and dig into Congresswoman Summer Lee's response to President Trump's State of the Union.
