Life is under attack on many fronts. It's being attacked in the womb, it's being attacked in the sunset years and even those who don't measure up to other people's standards due to some form of disability are also coming under attack. God is the Author of life. We are told in Psalm 139 that we are "fearfully and wonderfully made." In Jeremiah 1 we see it is God that has formed us. In Proverbs 6 we're told that the LORD hates the "hands that shed innocent blood" yet we are living in a society that has rejected God. The number of babies being killed by abortion including use of the abortion pill is escalating. Children in the womb are being killed due to a disability. At the other end of the spectrum, just recently a man in Canada screamed for help during a botched euthanasia. We live in a very barbaric society with the nod and approval of many in the political arena, the judicial realm, the entertainment industry and increasingly in the religious realm as well. It is an imperative that we must stand for life! Joining us to discuss these issues is Victor Nieves. Victor is President of the Life Issues Institute which was founded in 1991 to serve the educational needs of the pro-life movement. Victor has had a pro-life passion from a young age while working in state House and Senate campaigns in Missouri. He has a degree in Political Science with a dual focus on American government and Constitutional law. More Information: lifeissues.org
Krishna Das reflects on Maharaj-ji's teaching that all names, forms, and journeys lead to the same truth. This week on Pilgrim Heart, Krishna Das talks about:Neem Karoli's teaching: Sub Ek (all one)Following the heart and our own individual path to GodA dream message that Krishna Das had from Maharaj-jiDeveloping communication skills for improved relationshipsHow being hard on ourselves makes it difficult to offer compassion to othersPutting effort into daily practice Living with ease and being with all experiences, good and bad“Maharaj-ji said one thing to us that was life-changing: sub ek. All one. Many names, many forms, many paths, all one. Different cultures call it by different names, they conceive of it differently, but underneath the thoughts it's all the same…What Jesus realized is the same thing that the yogis in India realized, that the Zen Buddhists, Sufis, Muslims realized. They don't get stuck in the difference of the forms. It's just names; they're all the names of the same thing which is our own true nature.” –Krishna DasAbout Krishna Das:Layering traditional Hindu kirtan with instantly accessible melodies and modern instrumentation, Grammy nominee Krishna Das has been called yoga's “rock star.” With a remarkably soulful voice that touches the deepest chord in even the most casual listener, Krishna Das – known to friends, family, and fans as simply KD – has taken the call-and-response chanting out of yoga centers and into concert halls, becoming a worldwide icon and the best-selling chant artist of all time. Hi Parents! In this episode I'm joined by Dr. Erica Rozmid, a board-certified clinical psychologist and expert in evidence-based therapies like CBT and DBT, to explore the impact of social media and screen time on teen mental health. Together, we dive into the growing concern of doomscrolling and how constant exposure to negative content, comparison, and information overload can contribute to anxiety, emotional dysregulation, and low mood in teens. Dr. Rozmid introduces the powerful concept of shifting from “tech monitoring” to “tech mentoring,” helping parents move beyond simply limiting screen time and instead guide their teens toward healthier, more mindful technology use. We explore how parents can recognize when social media use is becoming problematic, what warning signs to look for, and how to support teens in breaking the cycle of excessive scrolling without creating power struggles. This conversation also highlights the importance of modelling healthy digital habits as parents and creating a home environment where technology supports well-being rather than undermines it. If you're feeling concerned about your teen's relationship with screens, social media, or their mental health, this episode offers practical tools, expert insights, and a more connected, supportive approach to navigating the digital world together. Hi Parents! Why do some teens stay focused and push through challenges while others seem completely unmotivated? In this episode, I sit down with executive functioning coach, teacher, and championship-winning athletic coach Tom Mandile to explore what is really going on when teens struggle with motivation, focus, and follow-through. With more than 20 years of experience working with students, athletes, and families, Tom shares how the same mental systems that help athletes perform under pressure can also help teens succeed in school, relationships, and everyday life. We talk about why what looks like a motivation problem is often actually a systems problem, and how developing executive functioning skills like time management, impulse control, and goal alignment can dramatically improve a teen's ability to stay focused and build confidence. In this conversation, you'll learn why structure often works better than willpower, how parents can support teens after setbacks, and simple strategies families can use to help teens build resilience, discipline, and independence. If you've ever wondered how to motivate your teen or help them stay focused when life feels overwhelming, this episode offers practical insights and tools you can start using right away.

Hi Parents! This is my 100th episode and I can't believe I'm here! In this milestone episode, I reflect on the journey behind the podcast from the fear I had when I first started, to the vulnerability of putting my voice out into the world, and the moments I genuinely questioned whether I should continue. I share why I originally started podcasting, how I moved away from short-form content into long-form conversations, and what shifted when I realized how powerful this platform could be for truly connecting with parents navigating teen anxiety. One of the biggest themes that continues to come up is how much teens learn from the way you show up as parents - how you respond to stress, how you regulate yourself, and how deeply they are influenced by your emotional patterns. To celebrate 100 episodes, I also introduce my 8-week program for parents of anxious teens, The Parent's Anxiety Toolkit™ created to help you go from feeling overwhelmed and unsure… to calm, confident, and equipped with the exact tools and language to support your child through anxiety. This episode is a celebration of growth, courage, consistency, and every single listener who has been part of this journey with me.
Pastor Ken Keltner is Senior pastor of Brookside Baptist Church, Brookfield, WI. He's the speaker on The Word for Life radio broadcast which airs on WVCY. In James 1:2-3 it says, "My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience." The word "temptations" in this context is referring to testing or trials. It's a word we really don't like to hear. This passage indicates that the trying of our faith builds patience or endurance in us. Many times we read this quickly and we may talk about its meaning in application to others, but what about when the trials and tests hit you? What is your response when these trials all of a sudden seem to come from nowhere? You wonder, why is this happening to me? What have I done wrong? Do we really count it all joy when we go through such times? How do we respond? It's often said such trials can turn us bitter or better. So listen to this Crosstalk and find out how Pastor Keltner responded as he walks listeners through what occurred during events leading up to and beyond March 16, 2026. That's the day that Pastor Ken's wife Kathy went home to be with the Lord after battling Glioblastoma, an aggressive type of brain cancer. They were married over 42 years and amidst the extreme heartache, the Lord has shown himself faithful and is very much at work. Hi Parents! Today we're diving into an important and often uncomfortable topic, but one that matters deeply for the way our kids grow up to understand relationships, respect, and accountability. I'm joined by Liz Ortenburger, the CEO of SafeNest, Nevada's largest and most comprehensive nonprofit addressing domestic and sexual violence. Liz has spent more than two decades working to protect women and children and to challenge the way communities respond to abuse. Through her leadership at SafeNest, she oversees programs that provide emergency support, prevention education, housing, legal advocacy, and intervention services designed to disrupt cycles of violence before they continue into the next generation. In this episode, we talk about the powerful role parents play in shaping how boys understand respect, responsibility, and relationships with others. Liz shares why prevention starts long before adulthood and how the messages kids absorb at home, both spoken and unspoken, can shape how they treat others later in life. We also discuss how witnessing unhealthy relationship dynamics can impact children emotionally and behaviourally, even when those patterns are subtle. Liz explains why raising boys who hold themselves and others accountable is such an important part of preventing violence and creating safer communities. Throughout our conversation, Liz offers practical insights for parents who want to model empathy, accountability, and respect in their own homes while also having honest conversations with their teens about boundaries, consent, and healthy relationships. This episode is a powerful reminder that the way we talk about respect, conflict, and accountability at home plays a major role in the relationships our children will build in the future. Hi Moms! Motherhood brings so much love and for many moms, it also brings a level of worry and pressure they never expected. In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Terri Bacow, a New York-based therapist with over 15 years of experience supporting people through major life transitions, especially moms navigating stress and anxiety. Terri and I talk honestly about why motherhood can heighten anxiety, even when everything looks “fine” on the outside. We explore the mental load moms carry, the guilt that creeps in when expectations feel impossibly high, and how constant worry can slowly take away joy and presence. Terri shares how anxiety often shows up as second-guessing, irritability, sleepless nights, and feeling like you're never doing enough - no matter how hard you try. We also dive into how Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) can help moms understand and interrupt anxious thought patterns instead of getting stuck in them. Terri explains CBT in a very practical, approachable way and offers insight into how small mindset shifts can make a big difference in how moms feel day to day. If you're a mom who feels overwhelmed, on edge, or quietly struggling with anxiety, this episode is a reminder that you're not alone. Support is possible, and change doesn't have to feel so heavy.
In this episode of Tendrils of Grief, I sit down with Dr. Stephen Paul Edwards to explore how grief doesn't just affect our emotions—it shapes our relationships, our behaviors, and the patterns we carry forward in life. We talk about how loss can influence the way we connect with others, the unconscious patterns that show up after grief, and why so many of us find ourselves repeating the same emotional cycles without fully understanding why. Dr. Edwards brings a deeper psychological perspective to grief, helping unpack how our past experiences, attachments, and internal narratives influence the way we process loss and navigate relationships moving forward. This conversation goes beyond surface-level grief. It looks at what grief reveals about us—how it exposes patterns, challenges our identity, and pushes us to confront parts of ourselves we may not have fully seen before. We also explore how awareness is the first step toward change. Because when we begin to understand our patterns, we can start to shift them—and create healthier, more intentional relationships in our lives. This episode is about grief, self-awareness, and growth—and the opportunity to not just survive loss, but to understand what it's trying to teach us.
In this extended Q&A special, Krishna Das offers powerful insights on navigating the turmoil of the human experience through devotional practice. This week on Pilgrim Heart, Krishna Das offers down-to-earth advice on:The name of God as an echo of our own beingTuning ourselves into the mantra Replacing greed and anxiety with compassion and kindnessThe delusion of self and otherDepression and falling into the trap of self-obsessionBuilding up the strength to let go through daily practice Coming back home to ourselves, to our breathThe lingering connection we have to those we have lostLooking for love within ourselves instead of outside ourselves"Depression expresses itself in many different ways. In general, through regular practice, we obsess about ourselves less and less. Over time, how we feel retreats into the background. It's no longer the most important thing in your life. You wake up ‘How am I now? How am I now?'. All day long, all life long, we are always judging how we feel. As time goes on, you don't give a shit about your state of mind anymore. Hi Parents! If you've ever wondered why traditional discipline seems to make things worse for your anxious teen, this episode will help you see their behaviour through a completely different lens. In today's conversation, I'm joined by Dr. Ross Greene, a clinical psychologist and the creator of the Collaborative & Proactive Solutions model. Ross has spent decades working with children who struggle with anxiety, explosive behaviour, school refusal, and emotional regulation, and his work challenges the idea that kids misbehave because they don't want to do better. Instead, he reminds us that kids do well if they can. We talk about the growing mental health crisis among kids and teens and why so many young people are overwhelmed right now. Ross explains how adults are often taught to focus on behaviours rather than the problems underneath them, and why this approach unintentionally escalates anxiety and power struggles. We also explore why punishment, rewards, and consequences don't create lasting change for anxious kids and what accountability looks like when collaboration is at the centre. This episode is especially helpful for parents who feel exhausted, confused, or discouraged and are looking for a more compassionate, effective way to support their teen. Ross offers practical insight into how small mindset shifts can change how we respond in hard moments and how working with our kids instead of against them builds trust, safety, and long-term skills.

Hi Parents! In this episode, I'm joined by Carrie Bonnett, a veteran teacher and Executive Function coach who works with students and families around the country using a brain-first, no-shame approach. Carrie brings decades of experience supporting kids, parents, and educators, and she's passionate about helping teens thrive by understanding how their brains actually work. During our conversation, we dig into what executive function really means and why it plays such a significant role in anxiety and procrastination for teens. We talk about why so many anxious teens struggle to get started even when they care deeply about school and responsibilities, and how anxiety can interfere with planning, organization, and task initiation. Carrie helps reframe procrastination as a brain-based challenge rather than a character flaw and shares practical ways parents can reduce overwhelm, support motivation, and move away from constant reminders and power struggles. We also explore why traditional tools like to-do lists don't always work for teens and how parents can shift their approach to better match their child's brain. This episode is especially helpful for parents who feel stuck in nightly homework battles or worry about their teen's independence and confidence.
Traditional Thomists are normally unfriendly to Henri De Lubac, but today's guest, Fr. Cajetan Cuddy points out that Thomists are very indebted to De Lubac and should join him on the battlefield. Fr. Cajetan Cuddy is a Dominican priest, scholar, and Youtuber who recently presented at the De Lubac conference hosted by the John Paul II Institute on Marriage and the Family. He joins us today to talk about De Lubac and his critical insight into the rise of constructive atheism. Fr. Cuddy and Ben Eriksen talk about De Lubac's response to this new threat to the human person. They also discuss the tendency of academics and intellectuals to focus too exclusively on the academic end of writing and researching while ignoring the search for truth and God who is much more than an intellectual principle. Their conversation not only provides insights into our modern culture but also demonstrates the crucial overlap between intellectual inquiry and one's lived experience. Hi Parents! Anxiety in teens doesn't always look like worry or fear. For many families, it shows up as avoidance, irritability, emotional shutdown, or behaviours that are often misread as defiance or lack of motivation. Today I'm joined by Dr. Tracey Marks, a board-certified psychiatrist who specializes in helping people build healthier responses to stress through neuroscience-based tools. Dr. Marks explains why the teenage brain under stress often moves into protection mode, making it harder for teens to communicate, focus, or engage. Tracey also breaks down the overlap between anxiety, ADHD traits, and stress behaviours, helping parents understand why labels alone don't tell the full story. Together, we discuss common ways well-meaning parents accidentally escalate anxiety, how parents can respond differently in heated or withdrawn moments, and why a parent's own emotional regulation plays a critical role in helping teens feel safe and supported. Parents will leave this episode with a clearer lens for interpreting their teen's behaviour, practical tools to use in real-life moments, and reassurance that supporting an anxious teen is not about fixing them, but about creating safety, understanding, and connection. Hi Parents! In this episode, I'm joined by Cathy Cassani Adams, LCSW - therapist, author, educator, and co-host of the Zen Pop podcast, for a powerful conversation about what it really means to help girls build a strong sense of self. So often, we focus on confidence and achievement, but confidence alone doesn't protect our girls from anxiety, self-doubt, or people-pleasing. Today, Cathy and I talk about the difference between confidence and a true sense of self, and why so many girls struggle when they learn to look outside themselves for approval instead of trusting their inner voice. We explore the subtle, well-intentioned ways adults can unintentionally undermine a girl's sense of self, how anxiety can show up when girls feel disconnected from who they are, and what it looks like to support girls without trying to fix or control their emotions. Cathy shares insights from her years of clinical work, teaching, and parenting, offering parents a compassionate and realistic lens for raising girls in today's high-pressure world. This conversation is especially for parents who want to raise girls who feel grounded, emotionally safe, and secure in who they are - not just confident on the outside, but deeply connected to themselves on the inside. Hi Parents! Loneliness is often misunderstood, especially when it comes to teens. Today I'm joined by Lucy Rose, founder of The Cost of Loneliness Project, to explore why loneliness is not simply about being alone and how it often hides beneath anxiety, withdrawal, and silence in adolescents. Lucy brings a unique perspective from her work in public health, medicine, and communication, including her leadership role at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. As a trained clinician, she helps families reframe loneliness not as a personal failure, but as a shared human experience that shapes emotional wellbeing, connection, and resilience. In our conversation, we discuss how loneliness can exist even in busy, loving homes, why teens may struggle to name or express it, and how family environments play a powerful role in helping teens feel emotionally supported - without parents needing to fix or rush emotions away. We also explore what meaningful connection looks like in everyday moments, how parents can support their teens through presence rather than pressure, and why loneliness should be understood as a collective responsibility rather than something teens or parents must navigate alone. In this episode, Sarah Riley talks with Chris Jeub of Monument Glamping… a familiar name in the industry and one of the early voices helping landowners turn beautiful properties into outdoor hospitality businesses. Chris shares the remarkable story of how a simple idea in 2019, of moving his bedroom into a hunting tent during a home remodel, unexpectedly became a fully-fledged glamping operation that now spans two properties and dozens of permitted units. Together, Sarah and Chris dive into the realities behind building a glamping business from scratch: navigating county regulations, dealing with neighbour complaints, expanding with container homes, and turning backyard tents into a six-figure enterprise. Chris also explains the powerful mindset shift that allowed him to reposition his offering, double his nightly rates, and transform Monument Glamping into an experience-led brand rooted in reconnection and simplicity. If you're curious about organic growth, overcoming regulatory hurdles, or how everyday landowners can create profitable, meaningful glamping stays, this episode is packed with honest insights, hard-earned lessons, and plenty of inspiration. In this episode, Dr. Russell Kennedy, The Anxiety MD, shares a new perspective on understanding and supporting anxious teens. Dr. Kennedy explains why traditional logic, reassurance, or problem-solving often doesn't work for teens with anxiety, and what helps a dysregulated nervous system feel safe. Hi Parents! Today's episode is one that many parents of teens have been waiting for, especially if the thought of your child getting behind the wheel brings up anxiety, fear, or a constant urge to intervene. Learning to drive isn't just about passing a test. For teens, it's a major developmental milestone tied to independence, confidence, and responsibility. And for parents, it can feel like one of the most nerve-wracking phases of raising an anxious teen. My guest today is Nigel Tunnacliffe, Co-Founder and CEO of Coastline Academy, the largest driving school in the country and one of the fastest-growing education companies in America. Nigel founded Coastline with a powerful mission: to eradicate car crashes by teaching safe, confident drivers for life. His team has trained over 250,000 teen drivers across multiple states and works closely with parents navigating this exact stage of life. In this conversation, we talk about why parents play such a critical role in their teen's driving education, how parental anxiety can unintentionally impact teen confidence, and what actually helps anxious teens develop healthy habits, calm decision-making, and trust behind the wheel. If you're parenting a teen who's nervous about driving or you're the anxious one, this episode will help you feel more grounded, informed, and confident in how you support them through this milestone.
