The Holy Spirit is given as a gift to all believers, but how fully do we open up and ask for His ownership and empowering of our lives? 3 of HRT's elders teach how the Spirit fills us to carry out our calling, with streams of living water to refresh and strengthen us, and then to offer the hope, life and healing that only the Lord can give. The crowds were amazed: “we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues. What does this mean?” -Acts 2:11b Point #2 The Explanation of Pentecost (Acts 2:14-41)-Joel's OT Prophecy-Luke explains that the extraordinary phenomenon of these Spirit-filled believers declaring God's wonders in foreign languages is the fulfillment of Joel's prediction that God would pour out his Spirit on all flesh. In other words, this (what you saw) is that (Joel 2 prophecy 800 BC ). The Holy Spirit (his Presence & Power in the Body of Christ (aka-the Church).-Peter testified about JESUSJesus' life, death, resurrection, exaltation and his salvation. On Pentecost, the Spirit is poured out with power, transforming the fearful into the bold. The Spirit is not just a gentle helper — but the fire and breath of God that equips the Church for its mission. Acts 2:1–13 ESVWhen the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.” And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” But others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.”
"The After Party" is our series at Fusion Christian Church on the book of Acts. Follow along as we explore what happened to the church after Jesus ascended to heaven. In this sermon, Pastor Zac teaches us about how we can live in the power of the Spirit both individually and communally.Walk in the power of unity. In the early church, the believers were all of one heart and mind. If Christians today are to be the same, we must make every effort to promote unity ourselves. Promoting unity means that we refuse to give in to divisive attitudes or indulge in toxic behaviors. A healthy Christian community refuses gossip, slander, backbiting, envy, and bitterness. Saying "no" to these behaviors and emotions will keep divisiveness to a minimum and foster community within the church. This means not only refusing to engage in them yourself, but speaking up when others try to fall into them around you.Walk in the power of generosity.Often a church's potential is limited solely by a lack of generosity from its members. If the whole body of Christ maintained a godly sense of generosity, there would never be a need left unmet in the church. Sometimes the temptation for individual believers is to think that generosity is not our responsibility, but this is not so. God calls all Christians to be generous because generosity is a beneficial character trait for every person. We are to be generous not merely because others have needs, but because there is a need in our own hearts to develop generosity. When God gives opportunities for generosity, he is helping us grow. Truly it is more blessed to give than to receive. Are you a Barnabas?Barnabas means "son of encouragement." In the bible, Barnabas was a generous servant who built people up wherever he went. Are you an encourager? Are you generous? Are you a unifier? If not, you should not expect to be the church to be something you are not. With all of this in mind, how can you embody unity and generosity in your life this week?
Today is Shavuot (Pentecost) ... by God's own word in Acts 1:8 this feast is the Power Feast of the Lord. Jesus did not say to stay in Jerusalem till you receive tongues ... Jesus did not say to stay in Jerusalem till you receive spiritual gifts ... NO!! He said stay till the Holy Spirit comes to give us POWER to go and bring HIM to the ends of the earth.

Victory over the enemy will not come by the might and strength of human effort alone, but rather it will come by the POWER of the Holy Spirit in and through the believer’s life. Zechariah 4:6 (NIV) declares it’s, “Not my might nor by power but by my Spirit, says the Lord Almighty.” In today’s study, pastor Alexander will identify seven ways that we depend upon DAILY upon the Oil of the Spirit for victory.

From the very beginning, Jesus gave His church a special mission. His words in Matthew 28:19-20 state it exactly, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” For the church to go forward we must take the good news to the world that God has provided His Son as a Savior for all people. This week we'll see how the Gospel message spread throughout the known world and how God wants us to continue sharing the Good News about Jesus to people today.
In this series, we begin exploring seven convictions that define who we are and guide what we do.Convictions are firmly held, personal or corporate beliefs. Convictions are core principles rooted in personal values, moral standpoints, and social standards. Our vision at Neighbors is simple in response to Jesus' prayer… “In San Diego as it is in heaven…” We do this by Being with JesusBecoming like JesusDoing what Jesus didThe operating system behind all of this though is our convictions. Ultimately, we live our core principles rooted in personal values, moral standpoints, and social standards.More info at sdneighbors.church

Thinking about the gospel of Jesus Christ leads Paul to pray in a particular way—in a passionate way. Usually people in those days prayed standing. Paul kneels—it's a sign of great emotion and solemnity. And what does he so passionately pray for? That his readers—and that also means us—would be strengthened with the power of the Spirit. Let's explore this: 1) Why is that so important? 2) What is it? and 3) How do we get it? This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on November 27, 2011.
